Chapter 5

The feast went by smoothly. Seeing as I’m a vampire, there was no need for me to eat. But I had to pretend. So every time I ate a bite of food, I made it disappear with my wand that was hidden under the table. I looked over at Edward, who was sitting next to me, to see him smirking, a look of clear amusement etched across his face. He always seemed amused at everything I did. It was a bit annoying, really.

I looked over to see Draco talking to some kid next to him. I immediately regretted it, because his scent became way too strong for me to take. Before, it just lingered in the air. Now it was full blown and almost too much to bear. I had to control myself. The boy Draco was talking to smirked at me and pointed at me, making Draco turn around to face me. I quickly looked away, because the scent was even stronger now. I could feel his eyes studying my face. I could sense Draco wanted to say something, but there really wasn’t anything to say. He looked at me for a moment longer and went back to talking to the boy next to him. It put an awkward feeling in the air around us.

After what seemed like an eternity, Dumbledore dismissed us all to bed. All the students rose from their seats.

“Do you want me to show you where the Common Room is?,” Draco asked me.

I looked into his eyes, and if I was a human and could breathe, I know it would have knocked the breath out of me. He was the most beautiful human I’ve ever laid eyes on. With his high cheekbones and gray eyes, it was hard to look away. Usually it was the other way around; me being a vampire, I was usually the one who felt the most beautiful. But it was all him.

I stopped staring at him and nodded a little bit. I felt Edward poke me in the back and I could hear Alice and Bella giggling behind him. I could practically hear Rosalie rolling her eyes.

Draco looked at me for a moment and a small smirk crept across his lips. He began to walk forward and I followed behind him, Edward, then Bella, then Alice, then Jasper, then Emmett then Rosalie all trailing behind me. Bella and Alice giggled to each other every once in a while and every time I looked back at Edward, a look of pure amusement was on his face.

Edward really makes me mad sometimes.

After traveling for a little bit, Draco finally came to a stop in front of a large painting of a serpent. It coiled and recoiled in front of us like a real live serpent.

“Passsssword?,” the snake asked.

“Vampires,” Draco said.

I heard Bella let out a gasp and I turned to face the others. I quickly turned my attention back to the portrait which swung open to reveal a large passage way.

“Coming?,” Draco asked.

I nodded and followed him in. Once through, the passage way opened up into a large common room with black leather couches and chairs. A large fire was blazing on the left wall and everything was done up in either green, silver or black. The only light came from the enormous fire.

“Nice,” Edward whispered.

This is the kind of life we lived. Being a Cullen, we had tons of money and were able to buy what we wanted. This was like living at home for us, really.

“Boys dorms to the left, girls to the right,” Draco said, motioning to both sides before he plopped down in a chair, staring into the fire.

Edward, Jasper and Emmett each Bella, Alice and Rosalie on the forehead, leaving me out like an oddball. I crossed my arms and looked away. Edward noticed.

“This is going to be fine,” he told me. “Good night Fallon.”

“Good night Edward,” I replied.

He gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead and I looked around to see everyone had disappeared but Draco. He was staring at me, an odd expression on his face.

“Is that Edward guy your boyfriend?,” Draco asked me.

“No!,” I nearly shouted. “I mean, he’s my brother. I don’t have a boyfriend.”

“Oh,” Draco said and he looked away.

I nodded and turned to walk away.

“If you need someone to help you-you know, to help you find your way around the school and all, I’m here,” he said.

I smiled slightly.

Draco smiled back.

“Ok,” I said.

“Good night,” he said.

“Good night,” I replied as I climbed up the stairs.

I went into my dorm and plopped down on the bed. Vampires don’t sleep, but I felt like I was having a dream…

Chapter 6

When I could hear all the other girls moving around, I opened my eyes which had to be closed in fake sleep and I got up. I got ready way quicker than the other girls, and I was already downstairs before the humans were applying their make up. I walked over to my family who were sitting on two couches, Bella’s arm in front of Alice. I knew Alice wanted to attack one of the human girls and put make-up on her, but she needed to retain herself. This was really our first day at Hogwarts.

“Good morning,” I said.

Bella, Edward and Alice all said ‘good morning’ back, but Emmett, Rosalie and Jasper remained quiet. Alice elbowed Jasper and he nodded his head at me.

No matter how much of a family we were, I still didn’t feel like a member.

They all got up off the couch and together we all made our way out of the common room and toward the Great Hall.

We all walked in and made our way to the table. Draco looked up and smirked at me, the boy he had just been talking to was gawking at me, a stupid look in his eyes.

I hate humans. They are so stupid! I can’t believe I used to be one…

“Good morning,” Draco said.

I sat a seat away from him, Alice in between us. Draco leaned back and winked at me.

If I wasn’t a vampire, I bet I’d melt right in front of him.

I pretended to eat again and the professor I knew by the name of Snape came up and handed me my schedule. Edward, Bella, Alice and I all wanted to take the same classes, so we all had the same schedules. But Jasper, Emmett, and Rosalie wanted to take different classes, so they had different schedules, not even sharing one class with us. I was kind of relieved, for I didn’t have to deal with my siblings who despised me.

The bell rang and everyone got up from their seats, headed towards their classes. I got up too and began to walk away, but I felt something grab my hand. It was warm, and it turned me around to face its owner. I came face to face with Draco. We were barely inches away from each other. I could feel his warm breath on my marble cheeks.

“So what is your schedule?,” he asked me.

I couldn’t say anything at first. I looked around to see that only Draco and I were the only ones in the Great Hall. Bella, Alice and Edward had left me. Figures.

He smiled at me and took my schedule out of my hand, his hand still holding my other hand. I’m surprised he wasn’t alarmed at the coldness of my hand. But he didn’t seem to want to let it go.

“Looks like we have the same schedule,” Draco said.

I never realized how tall he was before. Now that he was standing over me, I realized he was more than a good head taller than me. And I was tall for a girl!

“Seeing as your brothers and sisters left you, why don’t you walk with me?,” Draco said.

I nodded and we walked out of the Great Hall towards the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. I realized he was still holding my hand.

“Are you always this friendly?,” I teased, looking down at our hands.

Draco slowly let my hand go. “Only with beautiful girls.”

If I had been human, I know I would have blushed.

We both walked into class as soon as the bell rang. I took a seat next to him in front of Bella and Edward. Alice was sitting next to some girl, and without even hearing her, I knew she was talking about fingernail polish colors, for she kept pointing at the girl’s she was sitting next to fingernails.

The teacher came into the class and began to talk about what we would learn this year. He went on for a good ten minutes.

“And tomorrow, we will start on our vampire unit. We will be studying the lifestyles of vampires,” Mr. Hancock said.

I heard Draco mutter the word ‘cool’ next to me.

The bell rang and I sprung up from my seat. I gathered my things and stepped into pace next to Draco as we began down the hall to our second class.

“So I take it you have a thing for vampires,” I said as we began down the stairs headed towards the Slytherin common room for free period.

“How did you know?,” Draco asked.

“Well, you said ‘cool’ when the teacher mentioned vampires,” I said.

“Oh well, yeah. They’ve always interested me. Ever since I was little,” Draco laughed.

I nodded. “They are quite interesting…”

“I think it would be so cool to meet one…,” Draco thought aloud.

“No you wouldn’t!,” I exclaimed, stopping on a stair.

He gave me a weird look and stopped walking as well.

“I mean, they are all evil, right?,” I said, nearly panicking.

“Surely they aren’t…,” Draco looked at me.

“Who knows. I mean, who knows if vampires are even real?,” I said.

“They’re real. I know they are,” Draco replied.

“Fallon!,” someone called.

I looked down to see Alice standing at the bottom of the stairway.

“There you are,” she said. “We thought we lost you…”

“No, I’m fine. I’ve just been here chatting with Draco…,” I said.

Draco nodded down at Alice and she flashed him a sweet smile.

“I was just about to go out for a swim since the day is so lovely. Care to join me?,” Draco asked, looking down at me hopefully.

I knew without even looking out a window that the sun was actually shining brightly outside. I could practically feel the sun beating down on my skin and revealing my secret without me even stepping outside.

“Actually, I was hoping to get some studying in,” I thought quickly.

He couldn’t know my secret.

“But you’ve only gone to one class,” Draco said.

“Ahh, well, you can never start too early. Bye!,” I said, nearly sprinting down the stairs to Alice.

We both began down the hall until we finally reached the common room. Bella and Edward were already there, sitting on the couch and holding hands.

“God, I just embarrassed the hell out of myself,” I sighed as I plopped down in a seat next to the couch Edward and Bella were on.

“What do you mean?,” Edward whispered.

A normal human would have never been able to hear his voice.

“I mean, I just made an idiot out of myself in front of Draco!,” I replied just as quietly.

Edward chuckled. “Trust me. You did not. He already is crazy about you.”

“How did you-,” but I cut myself off.

I forgot that Edward could hear other people’s thoughts.

“Well, what else has he thought?,” I asked.

“Well, he is simply charmed by you. He thinks you’re the most beautiful girl he has ever met. He thinks you’re weird, but it doesn’t stop the crush he has on you. He has also been thinking other things, but I don’t think they’re appropriate to say aloud…,” Edward said, that usual amused look dancing across his face.

I groaned and put my head in my hands.

“I think it’s very amusing the way humans take such an interest in us, even when they don’t know we’re vampires…,” Edward said. “But you might want to be careful, Fallon. This Draco boy has quite the interest in you…I wouldn’t be surprised if he falls in love with you soon…”

Usually, I would be annoyed at him saying something like this. But those words were music to my ears.

Chapter 7

“Class is almost over, everyone please calm down,” Professor Hancock said. “Thank you. I have decided to have you all do a project. I want you all to study the lifestyles of a vampire; how they act, they eat, and how they appear. I want you all to tell me everything you know about vampires and put it into a twelve-inch essay. Now, you all will be put into pairs, and I also want you to include a display of what you think a vampire looks like. This will all be due this Thursday. I want you to partner with the pupil you sit next to. Class dismissed.”

I looked around and all the other students started talking to each other about their projects. My vision fixed on Draco. He was smirking.

“Yes,” I heard him mutter under his breath.

“Sorry?,” I said.

“This is bloody brilliant! I get to work on a project about vampires and I get to work with you! This must be my lucky day…,” he said. He looked up towards the sky. “Thank you Merlin…”

I giggled.

Several weeks had gone by and Draco and I had become very close. He was quite funny, and he seemed really sweet, much to my surprise. Plus, his scent drew me even closer to him, making it almost impossible for me to not be near him. We spent all the time we had to spare together.

“Does this mean I’m guaranteed an ‘O’?,” I joked.

“Yes it does. I’m actually looking forward to doing this project. As a matter of fact, lets start now!,” Draco exclaimed.

I looked up at him like he was crazy.

“Oh come on Fallon! We have free period! What better of a time than to work on it now?,” Draco said.

“Fine, fine. We mine as well…,” I sighed.

“Great. Let’s go down to the library,” Draco said.

He took me by the hand and we walked together to the library.

We both sat to work searching through books, gathering up any information that sounded relatively realistic. I already knew everything about vampires, but I had to at least pretend around Draco that I didn’t. And so far, I was doing a hell of a job.

Draco was sitting really close to me.

“Look. Vampires generally thirst for human blood, but there are some that call themselves ‘vegetarians’, as in they feast on animal blood rather than that of humans. That way, it’s easier for the humans to live and for the vampires to not call so much attention on themselves,” Draco said, sitting the book down on the table. “See, I told you, not all vampires are evil or bad…”

“Maybe the vampires fall in love with a certain human or something,” I said.

I felt Draco’s hand on top of mine.

“Well, that’s a possibility. But we also know for sure that humans can fall in love with other humans…,” Draco murmured.

His scent was becoming stronger and I felt weaker. It had been a long time since I had gone out hunting, and my eyes were losing their gold color and they were fading to black.

Draco leaned in slowly. As much as I wanted it to happen, I knew it was too dangerous. I could enjoy it too much, and lose myself and hurt Draco. And that was something I didn’t want to do.

I jumped up quickly. “I just remembered, I was supposed to help Alice with her project for potions. I’m sorry…”

I quickly gathered all of my things and left a dumbfounded Draco groaning in the library. I knew he was upset because he had come so close to getting what he wanted. And as bad as I too wanted it to happen, I knew it couldn’t. I knew I didn’t want to hurt him.

I also knew that I was somehow indescribably, uncontrollably in love with him.

Chapter 8

“In conclusion, not all vampires drink human blood. Some choose to be better than that and drink blood from animals,” Draco read aloud.

The whole class clapped at our paper. We handed the parchment to Professor Hancock and quickly showed the class our display of what we ‘thought’ a vampire would look like.

Draco and I had created a three dimensional picture of a male vampire. He was tall, had pale skin, dark hair and dark eyes. He was very attractive looking, not at all sinister. Draco thought this was the way vampires looked.

Does Draco stalk vampires in his spare time?

I flicked my wand and the figure appeared and the class ‘ooh’ed and ‘ahh’ed in amazement.

Professor Hancock clapped with joy. “Very well! Very well indeed! Twenty points to Slytherin for Mr. Malfoy and Miss Cullen’s amazing work on their project! This is by far the best I’ve seen yet!”

Draco had really been the one to do the project. I was too scared I would let a secret about vampires slip, that I barely even mentioned them to Draco. I would rather die than have him know my secret.

I looked over at Edward, Bella and Alice and smirked playfully at them. Both Alice and Bella stuck out their tongues while Edward pretended to be hurt by my action. But as usual, Edward wasn’t being serious.

The bell rang and Professor Hancock was still giddy about mine and Draco’s project. We quickly left the class headed for the common room to study.

“That was by far the best project I’ve ever had the pleasure to complete,” Draco said. “And I got to work with you on it…that made it even better!”

“That and you already know you got an ‘O’,” I added. “Professor Hancock was simply smitten with the project. You did amazing with it. I’m surprised you knew that much about vampires…”

“They’re very interesting,” Draco replied. “I wish I could see one in real life. You know, see how they act, what they do, etcetera. I think that would be fascinating.”

“Oh yeah, just imagine,” I mumbled.

“You don’t like vampires?,” Draco asked me.

“It’s not that, I just don’t really believe in them,” I lied. “I mean, who has proved that vampires are real and do what the books say they do…”

“True,” Draco said. “But I still think vampires are real and alive and living…”

Chapter 9

I laid in bed, waiting for everyone else to fall asleep. Once the annoying voices of some fourth years subsided, I quickly and quietly climbed out of bed.

I shut the door to the girls dorm and crept my way through the dark common room. As soon as I got to the door, however, all the lights flickered on and the room was suddenly bathed with light coming from the candlelight chandeliers.

“What are you doing?,” Draco asked me.

“Damn it,” I muttered.

I tried to think fast an excuse to get him to go away.

“Excuse me?,” Draco said.

“It’s none of your business, Draco. Now if you’ll excuse me…,” I said, turning to the door and escaping through it before Draco had a chance to grab me and pull me back in.

Like lightning, I quickly made my way through the castle and out to the Hogwarts grounds. I ran down the hill to where the Dark Forest was. I knew there were wolves and such in there I could hunt for.

I disappeared in between the trees and stopped, taking in the forest’s scent. I could smell wolves in the west. As if I apparated, I was already there in front of a wolf before it could blink. I sunk my teeth into it’s neck, taking its blood in. As soon as all the blood was drained from the wolf’s body, I left, feeling much better. I knew my eyes were back to their normal gold, and I felt better to be around people again without wanting to attack them.

Like a sniper, I quickly and quietly snuck my way through the halls. Just as I was nearing the Slytherin common room, I turned a corner and smacked right into someone. I didn’t feel any pain, but I heard the person let out a groan. I was furious. I quickly picked him up and flung him against the wall by the collar of his robes.

“Draco, you had better not have been spying on me,” I hissed.

Draco gulped. “What were you doing out in the forest?”

“That’s none of your bloody business,” I replied.

He looked into my eyes. “Wait a minute…earlier, your eyes were black…and now they’re gold…”

“So. A lot of people have eyes that change colors,” I shot back.

“Yeah. But no one has gold eyes that change into black eyes,” Draco explained. “Fallon, are you hiding something from me?”

“Of couse not,” I spat. “There’s nothing to hide.”

“Sure…besides the fact that you have a person of my size pinned against the wall like a lion and a mouse…,” Draco muttered.

I noticed I had pinned him to the wall. I moved my arm and he slumped over and stood to his normal height.

“So…you have incredible strength, and your eyes change colors. Plus, you are the only person who would ever go out into the Dark Forest at this time of night…not even that brainless oaf Hagrid goes in there at this time…,” Draco said.

I looked away. For a human, Draco was smart. And he was catching on fast. Too fast.

I watched his facial expression as he thought hard. Then he turned to face me again, a look of disbelief clouding in his eyes.

“It can’t be…,” he whispered. “No…the strength, the eye color changing, the disappearing and the coldness of skin…surely not…I mean, no way…”

I looked away.

“You’re a vampire,” he whispered.

I didn’t know what to do. He knew my secret.

“Why didn’t you tell me?,” he asked.

“Oh yeah, just reveal my biggest secret to you the moment I meet you…,” I said sarcastically.

Draco rolled his eyes. “You could have told me. I wouldn’t have told anyone or anything.”

“I’m sorry, Draco but it is just so hard to trust people,” I said.

Draco quickly wrapped his arms around my waist, and before I could push him away, he captured my lips with his. One hand went into my hair and his other hand went to the small of my back, pushing him closer to me. He kissed me hard, as if to prove his point, but the kiss still remained gentle all the same. My arms wrapped around his neck and my fingers knotted in the back of his hair.

“Trust that,” he whispered, and then he kissed me again.

Chapter 10

“So…I heard you and that Draco kid were caught kissing in the hall last night,” Alice taunted.

I rolled my eyes at her. “It was just a kiss.”

“From what I heard Snape telling another teacher, you two were about ready to rip each other’s clothes off,” Alice giggled.

“Alice!,” I exclaimed, hitting her on the arm.

“Well, he is cute. It’s odd how we vampires seem to find ourselves drawn to humans…,” Alice sighed. “First me, then Edward, then you…all falling in love with poor, innocent humans.”

“No one ever said I love him,” I replied.

“Oh but according to your future, you’ll be saying it very soon…,” Alice sang

“You can be quite annoying,” I muttered.

But of course since she is a vampire, she heard me loud and clear.

“But you love me,” Alice cooed.

“Hardly,” I said, drumming my fingers together.

I sighed and looked around, hoping some of my other ‘siblings’ would show up soon. Alice was quite annoying when she was alone.

“And from what I see, he knows our secret now…,” Alice said.

“How did you-”

“I’m psychic, remember?,” she cut me off.

I rolled my eyes again in annoyance.

The common room door opened and Draco stumbled in, his eyes transfixed on a letter.

“Hey…what’s up?,” I said as I got up and walked over to him.

He stopped walking, but he didn’t look up from his letter.

“My parents…,” he mumbled.

I looked over at the letter and felt bad as soon as I finished reading it.

“Oh Draco, I’m so sorry,” I whispered in his ear as I pulled him into a hug.

He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close, burying his face in my shoulder. I heard him take a deep breath.

“Are you going to be okay?,” I asked gently.

“I guess I’m going to have to be…,” he replied.

I felt horrible. Draco had told me he had no other family or friends besides his parents and I. He had no one left but me.

Draco pulled back as if an idea sprang into his mind.

“Fallon, you have to change me,” he said.

“What?,” I asked.

“Make me a vampire!,” he exclaimed.

“Draco, just because your parents die, it doesn’t mean I should change you,” I said.

“I have no one left but you. I want to be with you forever,” he said. “You don’t get it, do you? Do you realize that I love you?”

I looked at him, a mix of a startled appearance and wonder on my face.

“I love you,” he repeated. “Ever since I met you…”

I looked over at Alice and she was smiling, a look that said I-told-you-so on her face.

“I love you too,” I replied.

Draco smiled and pulled me closer, kissing me for a long time. My hands ran up his arms and shoulders and wrapped themselves around his neck and knotting themselves in his hair.

“Please do this for me,” Draco breathed, taking in sharp breaths as his lips lingered over my jawbone.

“I’m not sure I can,” I said. “We’ll have to discuss this with my new father.”

I kissed him again for a long time, letting his scent drive me to the brink of insanity.

“Remember, I’m human and I do need air,” Draco teased.

I rolled my eyes and kissed him quickly.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stay human?”
