A young girl knocked on a door, she stood with her things beside her. She looked around the dingy neighborhood in disgust. I can’t believe my mother would want to be with anyone that lives here.

She was brought out of her thoughts when she heard a voice ask, “Who are you?”

The young girl smirked, “Oh, that’s nice. Don’t even remember your own daughter…oh that’s right you left my mother before you could find out that she was going to have a baby.” Her voice was dripping with sarcasm. He pulled her in then binded her to a chair.

“Who are you and how did you know I had been with someone?”

“My name is Scarlet Cecilia Snape. I am your daughter.” Scarlet glared at her father.

“You have it all wrong, Scarlet, I did know about you…but your mother ran off with some Muggle man on our wedding night. I fought to keep you but she had more ties with it then I did.” Severus waved his wand and the binds were taken off her. “How old are you now anyway?” He asked before he went outside to get her bags.

When he came back in Scarlet said, “I’m sixteen. I was forced to come here since my mother and stepfather had a new baby…no room for me…like Davvy can’t afford a bigger place…he is a doctor after all, no richer man then a doctor.”

Severus’ lip twitched a bit when she mentioned her step-fathers name. “I see your mother hasn’t wanted you to call him ‘dad’.”

Scarlet arched an eyebrow then muttered, “She did but I never would…” She stood up then looked at all his books, “What do you want me to call you? Dad? Father? Severus?” Severus took her arm tightly, he loosened his grip when she winced.

“You may call me anything you wish, but now that you are in my care and in England, you will be going to Hogwarts. You would have had to be sorted with the first years but before your mother had took you. I had the headmaster of Hogwarts put the Sorting Hat on you and it said you would suit well in Slytherin.” There was a knock on the door and Severus let go of her arm then opened the door.

“Ah, Lucius, come in, come in.” Scarlet sat in a chair and watched as a man with white blonde hair that was long and in a pony tail walked in. She watched as his eyes scanned the room then spotted her.

A smile played on his lips as he asked, “Well, who is this charming young lady?” His voice made her heart leap,

“I…I…” Scarlet’s father’s voice sounded calm as he said, “This is my daughter, Scarlet.”

Lucius smirked, "Scarlet is a name of the gods, which must have named their beautiful angel after. It's a pleasure meeting you." Scarlet blushed and she had the sudden urge to kiss him. But hearing her father clear his throat the urge left.

“What did you come over for, Lucius?” Severus asked glaring at the man wooing his daughter.

Lucius looked over at Severus then said, “Ah, yes. I came to…” They glanced at Scarlet.

“I can take a hint.” She stood up then brushed past Lucius then went outside.

Scarlet sat on the porch waiting for them to get through talking. I wonder if he’s married… She thought to herself as she looked up at the sky.

She stood up when she heard the door open then close and her fathers voice say, “Scarlet, I...err…need to talk to you.” He sat on the porch then beckoned for her to do the same.

“What is it, Father?” Scarlet asked sitting beside him. “Well, you must know about You-Know-Who.” She nodded and Severus continued. “Well, I am a follower of His…and I am going to ask Him if someone can stay here with you for when I am gone.”

“Yes, Father. Can…can you ask if it could be your friend?” Scarlet said thinking about the man still in the house. Severus arched his eyebrow, “You mean Lucius? Why him?” “I…err…I just like him is all…” “Like him? In what way, Scarlet?” Scarlet stood up then said through clinched teeth, “I just don’t want to be stuck here being watched by someone that I haven’t met.”

She turned on her heal then went inside seething about her fathers stupid questions. Scarlet jumped slightly when she felt someone place a hand on her arm. She looked over and saw the smirking face of Lucius, “Did I startle you?” Scarlet smiled then shook her head. “No, I just forgot you were here.” Lucius got a bit closer to Scarlet moving his hand softly up her arm. Is he coming onto me? She looked up into his eyes and the urge to kiss him came back.

Jake would love this. Scarlet felt him place his hand on her shoulder then his other on her cheek. Lucius smirked then leaned in and whispered, “I’ll see you soon.” He let go of her then left, she was still standing in the same spot when her father came in a few minutes later. Severus sat down on a old musty couch he said, “Scarlet.” His tone forced Scarlet back to Earth, she looked at him, “Yes, Father?”

“Come sit down.” Scarlet did as she was told. “I heard that you and a friend of yours were the top two students at your old school. But you were top in Potions.” He looked like he was trying not to smile. Scarlet grinned, “Yes, Potions is the only thing Jake couldn’t do. I was top in my first year at Heatherton.”

Severus let a small smile escape then said, “I know you are tired, if you tap the couch with your wand it turns into a bed.” He stood up then went into his room and shut the door.

Scarlet got up then rummaged in her stuff and got out what looked like a hand mirror. She walked back to the couch then brought out her wand then tapped the couch. After the couch was a bed Scarlet laid the mirror on the bed then walked over to her father’s door. She knocked on the door, “Father?” When there was no reply Scarlet sighed then walked around the house for the bathroom. She was about to open a door when she heard her father’s voice. “That room is off limits. What are you looking for?”

“Oh, gee, I don’t know. Maybe, the bathroom.” Scarlet rolled her eyes. Severus pointed to the door beside him then went back to his bedroom. Scarlet was going to change into her night clothes but remembered she had forgot them. She sighed then went to the bed picked up her mirror then took her shoes off. She got under the covers with the mirror in hand. She brought the covers over her head then whispered, “Light.” The mirror lit up she then whispered, “Jake, the dunderhead, Sampson.”

“I heard that, Lettie.” A voice from the mirror said as the face of a boy with curly red hair and green eyes appeared. Scarlet smiled, “You know that family you wished you could meet?”

“Who? The Malfoy’s?”

“No. The other family.” Scarlet rolled her eyes.

“Well, what about them?” Scarlet smirked when she heard the eagerness in Jakes voice.

“Well…I met Lucius Malfoy…and I think I-” She heard footsteps then mouthed ‘I have to go.’ Jake nodded then his face disappeared. Scarlet smiled then got on her side placing her mirror under the pillow. She closed her eyes then fell into a peaceful sleep.

what's in that room? So, who is Jake? An old friend I presume? PAMS!

The next morning she woke up to the smell of a potion. She kept her eyes closed trying to go back to sleep, and she heard voices.

“How long is she going to stay in bed, Snape?” Came a man’s voice, but not the same man from the night before.

“As long as she likes. Now stay quiet, Avery.” Said her father’s voice.

Scarlet knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep anymore so she moved her hand under her pillow then opened her eyes. She felt for her mirror but couldn’t find it, she sat up and saw a man was holding it. The man was looking at the mirror as if trying to see it’s true powers. Scarlet glared at the man, “Give that back.” She held out her hand waiting.

Severus looked over at his daughter from over the cauldron. He smirked as she saw she was awake and was glaring at Avery. He went back to the potion then said, “You’re breakfast is in the kitchen, Scarlet.” Scarlet ignored her father then said, “I know poisons that could kill you in a split second.”

“Scarlet. Go eat your breakfast. Now.” Severus said glaring at her over the smoke the potion was now emitting. “Yes, masa.” Scarlet said rolling her eyes then stood up, she put her shoes on then walked into the kitchen. When she reached the kitchen she heard a tapping sound. She looked around then thought there must be a window somewhere.

Severus didn’t hear the tapping but he saw light appear from the kitchen. He didn’t take any notice to it though, meanwhile in the kitchen; Scarlet had let the eagle owl in. She gave the eagle owl a piece of her toast then took the letter. She sat at the table then opened the letter.

Scarlet,

I want you to go to the clock tower in your town tonight, around midnight. I will meet you there, do not tell your father. He will not approve of this, he knows my intentions, he knows I want to get to know you better. My wife left me and took my son two years ago. Again do not tell your father.

Lucius

Scarlet smiled then tucked the letter in her pocket. After she finished breakfast she walked back into the living room, she noticed that the bed was back as a couch. She also noticed that Avery still had her mirror, but she didn’t care at that moment. She went through her stuff until she got the clothes she wanted to wear. She then walked to the bathroom, as she changed she wondered what color robes Hogwarts will make her wear. I hope Father will buy me new ones…I don’t even have my old ones. She shuddered as she walked out of the bathroom. I hated the color they picked, bright blue. She was almost to the living room when she heard Jakes voice, she stopped to listen.

“And who are you to her?” Severus asked.

“I am her best friend, and I would very much like to speak with her if you don’t mind.” Came Jakes voice.

Scarlet walked into the living room, walked to her father, took her mirror. “Jake, now is not a good time.” She muttered something then Jakes face disappeared.

Scarlet glared at her father, “I would very much like for you to not interview my best friend as if he was some…some…common Muggle.” She had spat out the word Muggle as if it was the most vile word she knew. She walked over to her stuff then buried her mirror in one of her suitcases, she made sure her father hadn’t seen which one. She got out ink, quill and parchment.

Severus watched as his daughter left the house. He smirked that she hadn’t noticed that Avery was gone. He was surprised that she hadn’t asked any questions about who Avery was and why he was over there, or about the potion Severus had been making. He was also glad she wasn’t full of questions.

Scarlet sat on the porch, she dipped her quill in the ink then wrote.

Jake,

I am sorry that my father questioned you, I don’t think we will be able to talk on it anymore. But like I was saying before I had to go last night, I met Lucius Malfoy yesterday after I arrived here. I miss you, Jake, I’ll miss beating you at potions and getting to brag about it. Oh guess what? Mr. Malfoy wants to me at midnight tonight, me, Jake, me! I think he was coming onto me yesterday, I got the urge to kiss him twice. Well, Father is calling for me…I hope to hear from you soon.

Scarlet sealed the letter then whispered a simple spell and the letter disappeared. She rose then walked back inside, “Is there something you want, Father?” Severus looked up at his daughter. “Yes, I heard you whispering a something that sounded like a spell after you sealed your letter.” There was a hint of anger in his voice. Scarlet looked away from her father. “Yes, but it’s a spell that no Ministry could detect.”

Severus stood up towering over Scarlet, “If that were true then you would have been able to look me in the eye.” Scarlet looked up at him, “And if it wasn’t true then I would have gotten a letter from your Ministry by now.” Severus glared down at Scarlet. “And what, pray tell, made you think that you could use that spell?” Scarlet smirked, “It’s a spell my friend and I came up with. It is an easy way to send letters directly to that person without the worry of it being intercepted.”

“Next time you want to use that spell ask me first.” Severus said calmly. Scarlet rolled her eyes then sat on the couch with her arms crossed. At least I can get out of this house tonight. A smug look came across her face, she didn’t care if he was older then her. She liked him, and she could tell he liked her. Her father stayed in that ‘forbidden room’ most of the day. Scarlet had to make lunch it was something she ate in America.

“What is this?” Her father asked looking disgusted. Scarlet smirked, “It’s called a cheese pizza, Father. Something I grew to like…seeing as Mother’s husband cooked it every night.” After they had finished her father withdrew back in that room what is in there? She started to feel tired when dinner came so she laid down on the couch. She woke up when hours later, she couldn’t tell if it was dark or not. It’s always dark in here…not that I don’t mind.

She sat up then brushed her hair, she looked at her watch and saw that it read 11:30 PM. Crap! I better hurry if I want to make it there on time! She stood up then heard a soft thud on the floor. She looked down and saw that it was a reply from Jake. I’ll read that later. Scarlet picked it up then placed it on the couch and quietly slipped out the front door.

The night was cold, Scarlet hadn’t thought to wear a jacket. She rushed through the small town, her eyes on the clock tower. It seems to get farther and farther the closer I get. She saw a dark figure when she got close to the clock tower. Her heart skipped a beat when the figure said her name. “Scarlet, I’m glad you came.” Scarlet smiled when she looked into the eyes of Lucius Malfoy.

Lucius slid his hands around her waist, he held her lightly as he leaned down. Scarlet’s heart had felt like it would explode while he inched his lips closer and closer to hers. Lucius lingered with his lips an inch from hers, waiting to see how long she could handle the wait. Scarlet rose a bit so the space between their lips was no more. They stood there kissing, they didn’t stop when it started to rain lightly. After what seemed like days Lucius broke the kiss then whispered, “You’re so beautiful.”

Scarlet smiled and blushed, “So, Mr. Malfoy. What are your intentions?” Lucius smirked, “That’s for me to know and for you to find out.” Scarlet laughed then rested her head in his chest. Lucius kissed the top of her head, “You can’t tell anyone about th…about us until you are of age.” Scarlet lost her smile, “Yes, I know.”

Lucius could sense that something was bothering Scarlet. He held her tighter as he asked, “Is there something on your mind, my dear?” Scarlet pulled back a little and looked up at him. “I was just wondering why my mother fought my father to keep me if she didn’t really want me.” She scowled then added, “She had cast me aside like I was a dirty rag.”

Lucius looked into her eyes and whispered, “You can get even with her…” Scarlet saw his eyes flash evilly but instead of backing up like she would have as a child she smiled and asked, “How?” “By joining Him.” Lucius whispered holding her closer to him. “You mean The Dark Lord?” Scarlet asked in hushed tones, her eyes wide. “Yes, join Him and we can be together without having to worry about anyone’s approval. Join Him, Scarlet. Join Him and be with me.”

Scarlet stared up at him, stunned at what he was telling her to do. She pulled away, “Let me think about it.” Lucius nodded then gave her one last kiss then disappeared. Scarlet sighed then walked slowly back to her new home. It was about six AM when she got home. When she opened the door she saw her father reading her letter from Jake. When the door opened Severus looked up looking livid.

He stood up, “Where have you been?! I have been up since four this morning. I see a letter…I…I thought you had ran off! I want you to start telling me when you leave this house and where you are going!” Scarlet glared at her father, “I don’t have to tell you anything! I didn’t come here to be imprisoned! I came here because my so called mother didn’t want me!” Severus gave her the look of death. “Go to your room!” Scarlet laughed, “I am in my room!”
