This FF includes lyrics from the song Can't Help But Wait by Trey Songz.
I sat there, high up in the tree, free from any vision. They couldn’t see me as I watched him make her cry again for the umpteenth time. I grew more mad as the moments went on and her tears fell harder. But I couldn’t do anything to stop the Weasel from hurting her again. I was a Malfoy, she was a mudblood. What would the Weasley think? There was nothing I could do to change it. I watched her brown eyes cry more than anything else I’d ever seen. It made me want to cry with her.
I loved her. And she knew it. She had known last year, our sixth year, when I had gotten up enough courage to write her a note. I was desperate to tell her how I felt. I was even willing to kill my parents just so we could be together. But she said she could never pull herself away from with Weasley.
But it didn’t stop us from seeing each other. I took her on two dates and bought her numerous gifts. But no matter how hard I tried, no matter how close I thought we were finally becoming, she always went back to that stupid weasel.
I rolled my eyes at Weasley and pulled out the thing I borrowed from Hermione that she called an iPod. I scrolled through the list of songs and clicked play on the one I always found myself listening to. It expressed my true feelings. I watched Hermione argue back at Weasley as I listened to the song.

The song ended and I watched as Ron left. Hermione plopped down on the grass, crying hard. It was all I could do to control myself from hopping down from the tree, running over to her, helping her up, holding her in my arms and kissing her lightly on the lips. But I couldn’t.
Hermione sat there for about an hour, staring at her hands, crying softly. I didn’t move from my post in the tree in fear of how she would react to me seeing the argument she had with Weasley.
I heard footsteps coming through the leave-covered ground and the infamous red head of the stupid Weasley was back with Hermione again. It looked like he was apologizing. He talked and Hermione nodded. Weasley helped her up, holding her in his arms as he gave her a kiss. Oh, how I longed to be the one to be able to kiss Hermione. But I couldn’t. Instead I turned up the volume on the little iPod, blaring the song louder.
I can’t wait for you to realize I deserve you more, Hermione I thought. I Can’t Help But Wait…
