| Accepting an Outsider - Sa16+ hey yall! This is Tara and Katie here back with the sequel to A Better Beginning! Enjoy! Summary:
Jeremy Donaldson, or legally Jeremy Malfoy, never felt part of his family. He looked nothing like the people he called his parents and Draco made it a point to remind the young boy that he wasn’t his real father. Jeremy, now at the age of twelve, has returned for his second year of Hogwarts in hopes that his year will be better than his last. His twelve year old ‘brother’ Julius made sure everything went wrong for the outcast. But his thirteen year old ‘sister’ Isabella and his ‘mother’ Tara were there for him. But Jeremy wants nothing more than to receive that acceptance from Draco and Julius as well. And when tragedy strikes, will Jeremy finally have a chance to redeem himself for the troubles his father had caused? Chapter 1
The years flew by and the children grew. Julius had been born and grown to become quite the miniature of Draco. He looked, walked, talked, acted and even thought like his father. Draco had never been so pleased.
Isabella was quite the opposite. Her appearance favored her mother’s, but she had her father’s eyes. She was the perfect vision of a young girl.
Jeremy too grew. He had nothing in common appearance-wise with Tara or Draco for he wasn’t their birth child. And Draco liked to remind him of it sometimes. It almost bothered Draco to look at Jeremy, because it was like looking into the face of Lamark. And Draco would never forgive or forget what he had done, even if it was at the cost of an innocent child like Jeremy.
Tara and Isabella were the only ones Jeremy could count on. Neither of them judged him or anything. They were there for him, and they really cared for him. Draco and Julius were quite the opposite. Draco had almost made it a point to be mean to Jeremy. And Julius, being the spitting image of his father, did the same. Jeremy felt like an outcast. An outsider.
*****
The train ride to Hogwarts had been fast, and the feast had been even faster. As soon as they were allowed to leave, the all full and tired students began to make their way to their dorms.
This was going to be Draco and Tara’s second year teaching at Hogwarts. Draco was the Potions teacher and Tara taught Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Being the Head of the Slytherin House, Draco was made to check the common room to make sure everything was fine and the students were behaving. When he was done, he told his son Julius good night, given his daughter Isabella a hug and simply given Jeremy a nod. Tara gave all three of the children a hug and looked at them all.
“Good night,” she told them.
Draco looked around the common room, a smirk on his face.
“Do you remember when we-,” but Tara cut him off.
“Remember there are children here, darling,” she said, her cheeks turning a little red with embarrassment.
She grabbed Draco’s arm and pulled him to where they lived. They lived in the Head of House dorm in the Slytherin dungeons. They both got ready for bed and laid down together, Tara’s head resting on Draco’s chest as his arm wrapped around her waist.
“Draco, I really wish you’d try to be more kind to Jeremy,” Tara said.
“Never,” Draco muttered.
“But please-,” Tara pleaded.
“Good night,” Draco said.
He flicked his wand and the lamps flickered and blew out and he fell asleep. Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sylvannas Quickspeed Sixth | Chapter 2 Jeremy watched Draco say good-bye to Julius and Isabella, then ignore him again. Jeremy sighed, looking at the Gryffindor badge on his chest. This was another mark against him. He knew his mother had been in Gryffindor( in fact, she had been the smartest witch in her age.), and his father in Slytherin. His need to be like his mother had been stronger than his need to fit in with his strange family, and the Sorting Hat had put him in Gryffindor. Although Jeremy fet sad from being away from Bella, inside he was secretly relieved. The Tower had given him a place to be away from Julius and his friends.
"Jeremy, shouldn't you be going back to your Common Room now?" Bella asked him quietly, out of Julius' ear-shot.
"I suppose so. 'Night Bella." He gave his cousin a hug. She returned it, tears in her eyes.
"Jerry, I'm sorry they're mean to you." Bella whispered to him. Jeremy nodded and left.
"Don't baby him sis." Julius said loudly as Jeremy left. "God knows Gryffindor's got enough of those."
Jeremy paused, then wiped his eyes. He put his head down and left the Common Room. Bella turned to her brother and smacked him.
"Stop it! Why do you have to be such a turd about Jeremy? Just because he's not a blood member of our family?"
"Exactly." Julius wiped his mouth where his sister struck him. "He doens't belong with us. I mean, look at him. He's in Gryffindor! Talk about weird."
"That's no reason to keep putting him down all the time." Bella defended him. "It's not in his blood to be in Slytherin."
"Lamark was in Slytherin." Julius said smugly. Isabella rolled her eyes.
"But Hermione was in Gryffindor! Jerry takes after his mother! And I'm glad. Hermione was supposed to be the smartest witch of the age. smarter than mum OR dad." Julius narrowed his eyes.
"No mudblood is smarter than dad. NO ONE." He growled. Bella gave him a funny look.
"Knock it off, or I'll tell mum." Julius growled again, then left to his dorm. A few moments later, Isabella followed.
*****
Jeremy reached his destination in about ten minutes, dear readers. He got there safe and sound, in spite of Peeves rigging up a new prank. He even felt good, even though his foster brother was speaking poorly of him. Could he sense Bella defending him? No. It was just a feeling he had, my readers.
And now we come to his home, the only home he's known where he is accepted by everybody. Even more so, because of his mother. This Tower was the place where he felt worthy. Because of his mother's legacy.
"Hey, it's Donaldson. Hey Jerry!" A black haired boy called from the fireplace. "I saved us the good chairs!"
"Hey, shouldn't you be alseep? The Common Room's almost empty!" It was. Jeremy took the seat next to the boy. "Why are you up so late Richie?"
"Waiting for you to get back from that Common Room." The girl next to him shuddered. "Honestly Jerry, why do you go over there?"
"Because they're my-" Jeremy started to say, but Richie quickly cut him off.
"Don't say family. They're not your family. We're more related than you are to them!" Richie said. "Besides, they always tease you over there. Why do you insist on going by yourself?"
"Because Bella still treats me like a family member. Alsway defending me and all. I feel obligated to visit her, even if it means running into Julius." Jeremy defended himself.
"Sherry, can you believe this?" Richie asked the girl. "Honestly?"
"Sure can. Family's important, even if they're not family." Sherry said. Now, let's describe her, so you can get a look. She has short blonde hair the color of corn, with bright green eyes. She always had a smile on her face, except when she was serious. There was no smile on her face now.
"That doesn't make any sense." Richie said good-naturedly. Richie has rather longish black hair and deep black eyes. He's fairly tall, with little ropes of muscle everywhere. Not a jock, but not a nerd either, he has a presense that makes people stop and listen.
"Whatever guys. She's still a family member, even if we're not related. She's still important to me." Jeremy finished. Jeremy had grown up to look like Lamark. He had Brown hair like Hermione's, but it was neat. He had Lamark's sharp features, and Lamark's big brown eyes. Girls liked to follow Jeremy around, but Jeremy wasn't to hip on it.
"Alright then. Hey, did you see Felicia following you yesterday? Man, she's got it bad." Richie changed the subject. "Wish I had your talent."
"It's not a talent, it's a nuisence. I wish she'd follow you instead of me." Jeremy argued. Sherry got up quickly.
"Boy-talk. I'm outta here. I can stand it during the day, but not at one a.m. Later." Sherry made her way up to the girls dorm. Richie and Jeremy shrugged, and went o bed as well.

| Chapter 3 Chapter 3
Draco paced the Slytherin house table, handing out schedules to eager students. Bella was sitting with her friends and Julius too was with his pack of cronies. Jeremy sat with his two friends at the Gryffindor table, looking over at Draco. He almost wanted to cry as he watched Draco hand his son Julius a schedule. Father and son. Something Jeremy would never know anything about.
“Let it go,” Richie said as he was handed his schedule.
“Yeah. Don’t let them bother you,” Sherry said.
“I just want what they have,” Jeremy muttered. “Or to at least be accepted by them…”
“You don’t need them,” Richie said.
Jeremy took his schedule from his head of house.
“This would be easier if Draco didn’t hate me so much. I don’t even know why he hates me!,” Jeremy said.
Richie shrugged. “Maybe because you don’t look like him…”
“Maybe because he doesn’t like your parents…,” Sherry wondered aloud.
“Well Tara did. She was best friends with my mum. But she never did say much about my dad. Every time I mention him, a scared look goes across her face and she starts talking about something else…,” Jeremy told them.
“Maybe she was scared of your dad,” Richie said.
“Well, I know Draco hates my dad. I overheard him and Tara screaming at each other about my father a couple of years back, and Draco said something like ‘if it hadn’t been Lamark doing that to you, we wouldn’t have to deal with that brat!’,” Jeremy said.
“Who knows…,” Sherry sighed.
Jeremy nodded.
“Who knows…”
*****
Julius sat off to his first class. It was potions with Gryffindor. Which meant he would have to be stuck in the same room with Jeremy and his father. Julius smirked, looking exactly like his father, as he pushed through some kids and made into a sprint down the hall. He reached the class early to see his father looking at some papers at his desk.
“Hello father,” Julius said, walking up to his desk.
“Hello son,” Draco replied.
“Jeremy is in this class, too. You know what that means…,” Julius smirked again.
Draco paused and looked at his son. “You know your mother hates it when we’re mean to that boy…”
“Yes but mother isn’t here,” Julius smirked more.
Draco looked up at his son one more time, smirking. “Right you are, my son…”
Julius smirked and plopped down in a chair and propped his feet up on the desk, crossing his arms behind his head. He wouldn’t get in trouble because the teacher was his father. He waited patiently for his victim to come into the classroom.
Moments later, Jeremy slugged into the room. Draco and Julius each exchanged smirks. Julius got up out of his seat and walked across the room to where Jeremy was sitting.
“Well well if it isn’t my favorite person in the world,” Julius drawled, pulling out his wand.
“I thought you hated-,” Jeremy began, but with a flick of his wand and a muttering of a curse, Jeremy was flung into the air, hanging upside down by his ankle.
Julius smirked even wider. “Oh I do, trust me, I do hate you. But you’re my favorite person to harass.”
Julius moved his wand up and down and Jeremy’s head began beating hard against the wooden seat he had just been sitting in. The Slytherins sniggered while the Gryffindors remained quiet in fear of what Draco would do if they tried to stop Julius.
Draco remained seated at his desk, pretending like he didn’t see his son torturing Jeremy. A small smirk was playing across his lips.
Just then, the door opened and Tara came in.
“Draco, I have a free period now…Julius, what the bloody hell are you doing!??,” Tara exclaimed.
She ran over to her son and yanked his wand from his hand. She pulled out her own wand to gently set Jeremy back right in his seat. When she was done, she looked over at Draco with fire in her eyes.
“Draco! How dare you let this happen!,” she yelled, gently rubbing Jeremy’s head.
“I didn’t see anything…,” Draco sighed.
Tara marched right up to him and yanked him up out of his seat by his collar.
“Don’t even give me that excuse,” she growled, making Draco look down at her.
Draco lifted his arm up and removed her hand from his shirt.
“Let’s have some fun, shall we?,” Tara said.
She turned around, her back to Draco as she took a few paces back.
“Honey, there are children in the room…I have a class…sadly, you’ll just have to wait until later...,” Draco smirked.
But Tara didn’t have the same thing in mind. She turned to face him quickly and yelled the same spell Julius had used on Jeremy. Draco was sent flying into the air, hanging up by his ankle. Tara moved her wand so that his head kept hitting the floor with a loud thud. This time everyone in the class but Julius laughed.
“Mother, you’re embarrassing father!,” Julius exclaimed.
“Oh yeah, and you were raising Jeremy’s self esteem by the thousands a minute ago…,” Tara growled. “Fifty points from Slytherin for insubordination. I warned you, Julius, to stop harassing Jeremy."
Tara's hand was still moving her wand so Draco kept hitting the floor. “I’ll deal with you tonight, Julius. You too, Draco.”
Tara flicked her wand and Draco hit the floor with a loud thud. He let out a moan of pain and Tara turned on her heel and stormed out of the class, giving Jeremy a wink as she left.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sylvannas Quickspeed Sixth | Chapter 4 That was pretty cool, what your mom did!" Richie said excitedly to Jeremy after Potions. Draco had been subdued the entire lesson. So had Julius, actually. Jeremy shrugged.
"She's not my-"
"Yeah, I know, but wow Jerry, I wish my mom did that!" Richie clapped him on the back. Sherry noticed Jeremy's expression.
"Beep-beep Richie, can't you see he doesn't want to talk?" Richie clammed up at once. "Relax Jerry, don't worry about it."
"Oh great, why is she following us again?" Sherry turned around for a brief moment, then came back looking disgusted. "Honestly Jerry, tell her to buzz off."
"Who, who?!" Richie turned around, then looked back. He sighed. "Ah, Felicia Rosado. You have good taste, my man!"
"Who? Oh, Felicia." Jeremy said. "You can have her. She's not that good looking."
"Not that...Jerry, she's gorgeous!" Richie moaned. "Man, if only I had your talent for women!"
"Oh, get over yourself, lover-boy." Sherry said, and rolled her eyes. "She has the I.Q. of a flobberworm. Get over her. And fast."
*****
Isabella was in the Common Rom, looking over her O.W.L. notes when Julius came in, looking mad...as usual.
"What happened now?" She put a bookmark in her spot. Julius came over and flopped down on the chair next to her.
"Mom. She came into Potions class today and yelled at me. In front of everybody."
"You probably deserved it." She said, disinterested. Isabella tried to go back to studying.
"I don't even know why she likes the little twerp..." Julius muttered to himself. Isabella whirled around, enraged.
"DON'T YOU CALL HIM THAT!" She yelled at him. "What right do you have to say something like that?"
"Oh, c'mon Bella, you know he's not really family, why shouldn't I say what I like?" He drawled.
"Because Mom and I consider him apart of the family." Bella snapped. "And why can't you and Dad just leave him alone?"
"You don't know what he did to our family, do you?" Julius said slyly. Bella gave him a suspicious look.
"Oh, and you do?"
"As a matter of fact, I do. It has to do with Mom. And....Jeremy's father." Julius admitted that small bit of information to pass his lips. Bella shook her head.
"Just cause you don't like a person, doesn't mean you have to spread evil, nasty lies around."
"But it isn't a lie! Dad told me! Honest. Wanna know what it is?"
She did.
"No I don't." Bella said firmly. Julius raised an eyebrow. Her conviction wavered.
"Yes you do."
"Very Badly.
"No I don't! Stop teasing me, or I'll get Mom!" Bella was half out of her chair. She stopped. "What was it?"

| Chapter 5 Chapter 5
Julius smirked. Isabella had always known everything before him because she was older. But now Julius knew something Isabella didn’t, and she wanted to know.
Just then, Jeremy came in the common room. He saw them together, and didn’t want them to see him, because he didn’t feel like having to deal with Julius. He crept behind a curtain hanging on the wall and listened in.
“It’s about Jeremy’s dad. Father told me that when Jeremy’s mother died, our mother stepped in to help Jeremy’s father to take care of him. One night he came home drunk and he…he raped our mother,” Julius said, his voice ending the sentence in a mutter.
Isabella gasped.
Julius nodded and continued. “Mother didn’t want anything to happen to Jeremy’s father. She had to stay in the hospital for a while, and father came in, and Jeremy’s father was in the room with mother. Father took Jeremy’s father away and they dueled. Father said that mother appeared too, and she put up a shielding charm, trying to get them to stop fighting. Then father saw her and he lost his concentration. The spells backfired and the killing curse Jeremy’s father had been trying to use backfired and killed him while the curse father had been using hurt him badly.”
Isabella gasped again.
Tears sprang forward in Jeremy’s eyes. He kept himself quiet as Julius went on.
“Father said after all that happened, he couldn’t look at mother. He said it hurt too much. And then she found out she was pregnant with me, and he thought I actually was Jeremy’s father’s son. But they did a test to show that I was father’s son, not a stupid Donaldson like Jeremy. Thank God,” Julius finished.
“I can’t believe all that happened to mother…,” Isabella said, almost wanting to cry.
“And now you know why father hates Jeremy so much. Father says Jeremy looks EXACTLY like his father…,” Jeremy muttered.
“No,” Jeremy breathed.
He couldn’t take it anymore. He fled from behind the curtain and sped out of the common room.
“Jeremy! Wait!,” Isabella called.
Julius just shrugged his shoulders.
Isabella rose completely from her seat and sprinted off out of the common room after Jeremy. She knew where he would be. She ran all the way out of the castle and down to the lake. There on a giant rock, Jeremy sat, his legs pulled up so his face was buried in his knees. He was crying.
“Jeremy…I’m so sorry you had to hear that…,” Isabella said.
She sat down next to him and put her arm around his shoulder.
“N-nn-no won-nnderr d-Draco ha-tt-tes m-ee,” Jeremy cried.
Isabella began to cry too. She pulled Jeremy’s head to her chest and rubbed her hand over his head.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, crying. “I’m so sorry…”
*****
“Julius, where is Isabella?,” Draco asked.
Julius looked up to see his father and mother walking in together into the common room.
“I dunno, she ran after Jeremy, he was crying…,” Julius shrugged.
“Why did you make him cry this time!??,” Tara demanded.
“I didn’t mean to this time! He overheard me talking to Isabella…,” Julius said.
“What did you say that made him cry?,” Tara asked.
“I told him about the way his dad rap-,” Julius began, but he cut himself off.
All the color in Tara’s face drained.
“How do you know about that?,” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Draco looked away, not wanting to see the sadness etched across his beautiful wife’s face.
“You didn’t…,” Tara began. “Draco, please, please, please tell me you didn’t tell Julius. Please tell me it was a mistake, and he somehow found out…”
Draco didn’t answer her.
“ANSWER ME!,” Tara demanded.
Julius stood quiet.
“I can’t believe you,” Tara whispered as tears fell down her face.
She whipped her tears away and ran into the room she and Draco occupied and slammed the door.
Draco stood there for a good half an hour after that, completely dazed. He snapped back into reality and turned and walked off, still hearing his wife’s uncontrollable sobbing. |
