| | The Giant Treehouse Off to one side of the lake is a copse of trees that arch so high up in the sky, it's nearly impossible to see where their leafy tops end. But at the bottom of one is a rope ladder and a winding wooden staircase that wraps around the thickest trunk of the trees and leads up into the sky.
If you dare to ascend the ladder or the staircase, you'll be rewarded by entering the Giant Treehouse, which looks something like a cross between a log cabin and a miniature Hogwarts castle. The treehouse has a large veranda with rocking chairs on it and is completely surrounding and supported by the trunks of at least three trees, so it feels fairly stable even though it's suspended waaaaaaaaaay up in the air. The inside of the treehouse contains a few empty rooms, a tower, and a loft, but there are pillows and blankets, spare bits of parchment, ink and quills, and a bucket on a rope and pulley that goes all the way to the bottom of the tree. The treehouse looks (and smells!) brand-new, with nice new windows and fairy lights that illuminate the treehouse at dusktime.
No one said Williamson didn't still have the heart of a kid sometimes. He built this just for you.
And don't wory about falling out of the treehouse; there are a LOT of spells protecting and supporting the giant treehouse. If you were to fall from the treehouse or its platform, your fall would be slowed by magic. Plus, the ground below the treehouse has been charmed to feel like the equivalent of a squishy gym mat. Be careful though; too much horseplay will result in the grumpy groundskeeper shutting things down or turning this into his personal fort where kids can't find him. |

Bernie was definitely a little bit concerned about this plan to help the first and second years. First of all, she never saw herself as being someone who helped out the Kinsay Jameses little kids of the school. It said a lot about her growth and maturity that she was even here in the treehouse, having somewhat faced a fear to get up here. Second of all, if she helped Quinn, this would count as making waves, then? Yes? Yes. This would DIRECTLY be making waves. This would be JUMPING INTO THE POOL in a cannonball, honestly. This would be going against all the advice anyone ever had given her.
And yet....
The fact that he'd come to her? Specifically? Another Muggleborn? An older and wiser and even though she didn't think so good-at-magic Muggleborn? Bernie bit her lip as she looked at the list again, unconsciously starting to rock the chair, thinking and thinking of how best to respond to Quinn. She may or may not have tugged at her own bottom lip as she thought. It didn't take long, though, before she had her answer.
"Yes." She stated finally, the rocking chair stopping as she stood up. "Yes, I'll help you, but I actually think this is a TERRIBLE idea. And yet, that's precisely why we need to do it."
She started pacing too, because it helped her think to walk, you know? Walk and talk. Though she was also cautious and QUIET whilst talking, as she often was when she got an idea. "The spells are good, and I see you mastered muffliato already," though honestly Berns sometimes forgot or doubted the usefulness of that one, "but the real trick will be finding the right location to train... and... and we'll have to set a schedule, so not very many people are out at the same time.... and we'll have to be careful about who we let into our club, because there are some REAL snitches up in Hogwarts..."
And she wasn't talking about the golden flying kind they weren't allowed to use in Flying lessons anymore. Quinn let out a long sigh. It was over now. The decision was made. It was the more dangerous one, but he felt as though a weight had been lifted off his shoulders nonetheless. "Y-yeah... I know it's a terrible idea. But I know that, if it works, it'll pay off in the long run."
He nodded along with her planning. "Yeah, I agree. With all that. I already know two kids who're never to know—Emmerson Cambridge and, by extension, Kinsay James." After the incident at the Winged Boars, he knew to never, ever trust Emmerson. While he didn't think Kinsay was against them, he didn't trust her not to spill to her best friend in the whole world. "B-but, on the topic of where to train, I did have another idea, but I'm just... I'm not sure if it'll be a fruitful endeavor. I've been reading up on wizarding history as well—I didn't know much coming into school and, especially given the situation we're in now, I've been trying to learn as much as I could—and, during the Second Wizarding War, there was a group of Hogwarts students that rebelled against the Death Eaters who had taken over the castle that called themselves Dumbledore's Army. And they used a specific room in the castle as a home base, where the Death Eaters couldn't get to them. It was called... uh... the Come-and-Go Room? B-but it didn't say where it was in the castle, or how they managed to keep out the Death Eaters, so I wouldn't even know if we could use it." He hoped beyond hope that Bernie had some inkling of what he was talking about.

He hoped beyond hope that Bernie had some inkling of what he was talking about. Right, Bernie could agree with that. She nodded slowly, her pacing petering out slightly. But wait, what?
She blinked a few times at the call-out of her housemates. "Why not those two specifically?" she asked slowly, trying to think of a reason they would be excluded? Well, Emmerson could probably look after herself; Bernie was pretty sure she had a mum who worked at the Ministry in some important job. And Kinsay.... well, yeah, she was annoying, but she'd grown on Bernie a little over the course of this year too. BUT maybe he didn't want Kinsay involved because she had her big sister to look out for her? And stuff?
Back to the training location. Bernie began pacing again quickly. "I don't know if I like the idea of somewhere indoors, not even the Room of Requirement." Yes, Quillnn, that's what it was called here. "We need to be outside, in case we have to scatter quickly and and---" She illustrated with her hands, making a kind of shooing motion. "You know. You KNOW they'll come after us." Bernie paused on her circular pacing path, coming to a stop by the window. "What about the island, outside? The bowtruckle island?"
You know, in the middle of the lake? THEY couldn't get to THEM there, right? RIGHT?

You know, in the middle of the lake? THEY couldn't get to THEM there, right? RIGHT? Oh, right, they were in the same House with Bernie, weren't they? Quinn had those two so far removed from Bernie in his head that he forgot pretty often. "Er, well, that's.... to make a long story short, my friend, Eden, hexed Emmerson because Emmerson got into a fight with our friend Ashley and called her a mudblood. And then Emmerson started screaming, and dodged help from both Kinsay and Eden, and I'm pretty sure she wanted some of the Alliance people to come over. To see us punished. The only reason we weren't is because Professor Williamson came to help—he had to Silencio her so she wouldn't say anything to them. And then he had to Stupefy her so she didn't go get Rosier. It was... a mess. And Kinsay's her best friend, so..." he trailed off, shrugging. He thought he had stated his case very clearly—Emmerson was very pro-Alliance. Kinsay was her friend.
Hearing her say it, he did remember it being referred to in the book as the Room of Requirement as well. Quinn didn't know how the Room of Requirement worked, so he couldn't refute any of what Bernie said. If she thought it was a bad idea, then it was. He looked out the window and pondered her idea. "Well... it could work. But if we needed to scatter.... a small island would be a bit hard to do that on. Unless we had a couple boats prepped all around the island..." He thought about it for a moment. "...Okay, so, let's think through this. If we were to use the island, it would definitely be hard to spot our practicing—it's so far away from shore that you probably wouldn't be able to hear us, much less see. But, if we were to be found, we would need to be able to escape pretty quickly. And we should scatter to make it harder to follow us. Depending on how many boats are in the boathouse, we could spread some out around the outskirts of the island and leave them there in the event we needed to leave in separate parties. But, we would be sitting ducks out on the water—or, well, rowing ducks, but you get my point. Rowboats aren't the fastest mode of transportation. Is there some way we would be able to speed that up? Or is there some other way to get to and from the island?" Talking generally helped Quinn sort things out in his brain. He hoped that all made sense to Bernie—sometimes he confused people with longwinded explanations.
His thoughts turned to another aspect they would need to sort out. "Okay, so... for this part, I definitely will need your help—who we should... recruit? Is that a good word for it? Some older students you think would be trustworthy, but also well-versed in magic." Quinn didn't know many of the older students, and the ones he did know, he didn't know well. Well, not all of them. "I... I had two in mind, but I thought I should run them by you first. Valencia Phillips and Aboli Song? Did you think that they're... you know.... alright?" While he hadn't spoken to Aboli about his idea yet, she seemed really nice during all of their interactions. Plus, she said she had really good OWLs, so... she was probably good at magic. As for Valencia, he had danced around the topic in conversation with her, but... she seemed reciprocative of it, so...

As for Valencia, he had danced around the topic in conversation with her, but... she seemed reciprocative of it, so... And if Bernie had known this thought about herself and these second years... she definitely would have had a laugh. A great big hearty laugh. If only Quinn had known her in her younger and less vulnerable years! He definitely wouldn't have thought so highly of her!
As it were, she could only listen intently to his story about all the hexing, her brow furrowing a little. "Well I'm impressed no one died," she stated firstly, "and secondly, I mean, I guess it makes sense. They'll be fine without this extra training anyway." She shrugged dismissively and started pacing again, because Quinn was talking and it helped her to do something else while someone was talking to her. Helped with the paying-attention thing. He was a decent strategist for an eleven-year-old or whatever, she supposed, and plus they had the Muggleborn thing in common. Bernie took a few laps around him and then came to a stop by the window.
"You're right, the island is out." It is decided. It is known. I have spoken. Etc. etc. etc. This seemed like a time-sensitive matter, and Bernie wouldn't even continue to entertain the lines of thought about the island; it required too many logistics to be a viable option, even WITH magic. So. Jot that down.
She turned from the window to stare intently at Quinn with her hyperfocused blue eyes. "I think, instead, we should just stick to the lakeshore. In fact, what if we didn't even TRY to be so... so clandestine about it?" One of her favorite words, to be sure, from her Muggle fantasy books she liked to read.... er, had liked to read, before this year, and before they got confiscated. "What if we make it look like we're offering ourselves up for target practice? We can pair up with some pureblood kids, yes, like Aboli and... and... I dunno, you may be right, I think maybe Valencia is, but I dunno. Those two will probably work with us but we have to ask them the right way."
Though Bernadette did not know Valencia very well, she was certain Aboli would help her. Though, on second thought, she knew self-preservation was pretty important to Aboli Bologna, and she hadn't exactly acted out in class at all yet. ALSO.... "I mean, we have to find a way to offer those purebloods a way out," Bernie stated suddenly, her heart sinking as this thought occurred to her, and per usual, escaped her mouth before she was quite through thinking it out. "We have to make it look like they're NOT rebelling. We can't have another Portraits fiasco; they deserve to be protected too. Why should they have to suffer the way us Muggleborns are suffering? Someone needs to survive this school year, in--- in case we don't make it, so--- so someone will pass on our stories----"
Her voice broke as she was suddenly overcome with emotion, her bright eyes starting to fill up with some stupid pathetic liquid that made her look human or something, ugh. Bernie turned away from Quinn and found herself sinking back into the rocking chair, where she began aggressively and sadly rocking herself, her hands forcefully pressed to her forehead in a triangle shape so he couldn't see her leaking eyes.

Bernie turned away from Quinn and found herself sinking back into the rocking chair, where she began aggressively and sadly rocking herself, her hands forcefully pressed to her forehead in a triangle shape so he couldn't see her leaking eyes. He nodded exasperatedly. Quinn was surprised nobody died, too, and he was there.
He listened to Bernie talk—he didn't know what clandestine meant, but he caught onto what she was saying as she continued. He thought about this idea—they could try to hide it in plain sight. And they would have to ask in the right way, and they would have to make sure nobody would get hurt... as he thought about all these things in tandem, gears in his head started turning, he was starting to form another idea—
But then, Bernie's voice was breaking. He looked up quickly, seeing her tears form as she went to sit on the chair. He understood where she was coming from—this was a scary time, and nobody wanted to see anyone get hurt. But... he knew. He knew this was for the best. He rushed over to Bernie and knelt in front of her, clasping her shoulders. "Hey, Bernie, it's alright..." he started softly, the way his Gram talked with him when he was upset, "this stuff is scary, and hard—I don't want anyone to be punished either. And it's alright to cry, but we can't break down, you know? We need to be strong for everyone. This will work, but... only if we're smart and brave. And you're a Gryffindor, and I'm a Ravenclaw, so we have both of those bases covered, yeah? We'll be fine. Everyone will be fine." He managed a smile, even though he was scared, too. It was strange to be consoling someone older than he was, but it had always been this way—he would be as emotional as ever, but the minute one of his friends needed help, he forgot all about what he was feeling to make sure they were alright. "Plus... I think I thought of a way to make it so we don't have to hide, but we'll still be safe. We'll make sure everyone is safe," he said with a determined look. "I think it would be hard for anyone to believe that the Muggleborns have offered themselves up to be attacked by other students—plus, it would attract unwanted attention from those students who believed it, and wanted to take part in the Muggleborn-bashing. But, if we ask people to join our Defense Against the Dark Arts tutoring group..." he said with a look, "...I think it'll be an easier pill to swallow, both for students and administration. And the only people who would come would be those we invited. And... we don't have to tell the people we invite what we're really doing. We could probably pass for a genuine study group, and... what the others don't know can't be used against them." He finished up his explanation and focused his eyes on Bernie, hoping this would satisfy her stipulations. He thought it was a pretty good plan, himself.

Bernie couldn't believe she was being comforted by a FIRST YEAR RAVENCLAW of all people! Someone put their hand up and tell her if she had been bamboozled by a polyjuice potion or something! How was this year still happening!!! She let out a choked sob and tried to push Quinn away from her, but mostly she just ended up crying HARDER.
"I'm... I'm...." She found it kinda funny, and also kinda sad that she was being helped along by a Ravenclaw FIRST YEAR of ALL PEOPLE. Mer-lin! She finally succeeded in quelching her tears with just a few choked-back sobs. "I'm fine, Quill--- QUINN!" There she went again, messing up his name. "I'm fine. It'll be fine. And---- and you're right, we'll just call it a study group. I've been meaning to talk to Aboli anyway." She nodded and set up a little brighter, drying her obnoxiously wet (and snotty) face on her sleeve.
She found she was able to make eye contact now, and stared right back at Quinn. "Okay, um. I'm in. I'll talk to Aboli. You gotta try to talk to Valencia. She's in YOUR house." Deal?

Quinn took a step back when Bernie tried to push him away. He didn't want to be in her personal bubble, and he knew some people would rather not be touched while they cried, so...
He half frowned when she called him Quill, but decided not to push it right now. She was in a sensitive space. He nodded at her agreement. "Yeah, I'll talk to her. I think she'll be open to it. And I'll ask some of my friends about joining. If you think of anyone else you think would be, er, qualified to help, then talk to me about it. Oh, and I should probably talk to you about who I want to ask, too, huh..? I know I don't know many older students and you don't know many younger ones, but... y'know... if one of us doesn't trust someone for whatever reason..." he shrugged. Just to double check and make sure they'd be safe. He didn't expect anyone to figure out what was going on, but in the case someone did and they weren't to be trusted... well, that would be pretty bad.
He tried to think of a list of all the kids he had in mind. "Um, so... I wanna ask Eden Tilly, Atlas and Aries Flamsteed, Ashley Fox, Dahlia Donovan, and Tadhg O'Neill. For right now, at least. I'll probably think of some others. Do any of those names stick out to you in a bad way?" |

I'll probably think of some others. Do any of those names stick out to you in a bad way?" Okay, yes. All this talking about who to talk to, who not to talk to, etc. etc. etc. was kind of making Bernie's head throb. "I'll gather a few people from my year, if I can..." she hesitated because she was reminded of her failed leadership at the Portraits not so long ago, and she felt like she should say something about that. "But don't be surprised if they turn me down, Quinn, because it's me, and I'm good at--- at--- making waves and not much else."
She let out a sigh of utterly despair and hopelessness. It was probably better to talk about the little kids than about her right now, because her emotions were still running pretty close to the surface. "I mean... Ashley loves to run her mouth, like so much that she's got a death wish probably. But the others might be fine. Gotta watch out for that Atlas though." She allowed herself a small smile. "He gets so nervous sometimes that..." That, y'know, he pees. She wouldn’t bring that up though. Bernie thought that boy was alright.
As for not trusting the others... Bernie gestured back to Quinn with the flat of her hand. "Is there anyone in my year or above you don't wanna have teaching you?" Even though he'd said he didn't know many older students, he did know a few, like Aboli and Valencia.

Even though he'd said he didn't know many older students, he did know a few, like Aboli and Valencia. Quinn shook his head. "Bernie... it's alright. We can't make anyone help us. If they want to, they will. If they don't... that's not your fault. Really." He didn't think Bernie should be so hard on herself. She was smart and brave. Sure, she might not use those smarts and bravery at all the right moments, but at least she was trying.
Quinn side frowned. Ashley could definitely be talkative, depending on her mood and the situation, but... if she just thought it was a tutoring group, then... it should be fine. She wouldn't have much to really chat about. And Atlas... he had his moments, but he was getting better about that stuff. Quinn would know. "Yeah, I understand that. I... I think they'll be alright though. Don't discount them just yet."
Quinn puffed out the side of his cheek, thinking. There definitely was one who came to mind... he still couldn't discern if he was reading too much into them, but he still decided he should say something. "...Nemesis Upstead," he said firmly.

Bernie nearly cried again at Quinn's kind words. It was true, she was tough on herself, but she'd grown up in a tough household, she had. It was just who she was. And the fact that Quinn could tell she was trying? Merlin, if she knew he thought this highly of her, she'd probably be a smöl puddle of Gryffindor robes on the ground. As it was, she tried to keep the lump of feelings in her throat and not cascading down her cheeks. She merely nodded a few times to confirm that they were on the same page.
"I think they'll be alright too," she admitted. But, let it be known she HAD pointed this out FOR THE RECORD before things began.
Now, onto the one person Quinn didn't trust? She watched him, clearly she could tell he was thinking, and... let out a tiny giggle at his answer. "Nem? Do you... not trust Nem, or not like him, or....?" She was, incredibly, amused by this answer. But she was always amused by all things Nemesis, truly.

Bernie WAS taking Quinn seriously; the thing was, she just wasn't quite able to take his fear of Nemesis seriously.
"I mean.... yes, I know Nem." She shrugged like this was no big deal. Bernie considered Nem a friend, actually, maybe even one of her better friends, if that was possible with this Upstead. She could see the trustworthy thing, or lack thereof, and gave Quinn a serious, stern look for that. A LOOK of acknowledgment. "I just... I don't know how much you know about Nem, but he'd never agree to join this anyway. And not because of your trust... thing."
She was shaking her head to herself and rocking the chair gently again. "This is just the exact sort of thing Nem told me NOT to do." Jot that down, alright? She knew, she KNEW she could get into a lot of trouble over this. And yet... she was going to do it anyway.

"I'll admit, I don't know much, but what I do know, I don't like. Him telling you not to do stuff like this is all the more reason to do it, in my book, but..." Quinn shrugged. "Just, y'know... be wary of him. I have a bad feeling." Again, did he really have a bad feeling or was he just biased? Quinn was finding it hard to pick that apart himself.

Again, did he really have a bad feeling or was he just biased? Quinn was finding it hard to pick that apart himself. Bernie blinked a few times, and then a few times more. She probably actually looked like her BFF Finneas Schmoe there, to be quite frank.
"You... are telling me to be wary of Nem? You?" Bernie couldn't stop the small smirk that popped on her lips. She disregarded the whole bit about 'Nem telling you NOT to do this stuff,' because frankly, Quinn's logic was flawed, but also frankly, it was hardly the Ravenclaw's fault since the kid hadn't been in the Boathouse and all that.
Back to the topic of the Slytherin in question, who she was, obviously, now going to defend. "Nem is a friend, so jot that down. How about you worry about yourself and your friends, Quinn? I'll worry about the kids my age. And then together we will worry about getting out of this mess and recruiting people to join the cause."
She nodded slowly as though confirming something with herself. "And anyway, as I said, Nem would NEVER join this study group so you really have no need to worry." She stood up and pat-patted the Ravenclaw on the shoulder, moving toward the door of the treehouse to exit. "Was there anything else?"
Merlin, she really had been spending too much time with Upstead.

Merlin, she really had been spending too much time with Upstead. Quinn was not the biggest fan of her patronizing tone. He crossed his arms and let out a small "Hmph." He was just trying to help her, but it was her call.
Quinn shook his head, walking past her. "No, I don't think there is." He casted a Finite on the room as he walked out. "Alright, well.... I'll catch up with you later, then." He gave her a small nod before descending the stairs.

He was, after all, JUST a first year.
"Hmmph," she tsked back, though hers was much lighter, and yet heavier at the same time. The thing was, now she had to go back DOWN the stairs one by one by one by one etc. Bernie tugged on the back of Quinn's robes. "I'm following you so don't go too fast, okay?"
Because dizziness and vertigo are very real things, okay?!

| Mamie? Or anyone else? :3 YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Even though Apollo hadn't been sentenced down to the dungeons room, the first year was still feeling a case of cabin fever. Constrictions. Perhaps it was all the adults here that seemed to be watching his every move, waiting for another outburst. Waiting for a child to say or do the wrong thing. The adults, who seemed thirsty for another murder of an innocent creature or muggle.
So it was this fateful afternoon that the eleven year old made his way to the grounds and the giant treehouse perched there. Everything was fine. This was fine. Wasn't it? He sat down at the edge, pulling his knees to his chest and just stared wondering what Hogwarts was like before. He'd dreamed of attending Hogwarts like his parents and grandparents and cousins, but he never imagined it would be anything like this? No one had told him innocent lives would be taken before his very eyes. No one had told him blood status still mattered. Did it even really matter? Sure he was spared because supposedly his blood was superior, but he didn't think he was any better of a wizard then the other kids? |

Mamie was not sure if she'd actually be allowed inside the treehouse during their supervised outing, but...she was certainly going to walk in its direction. She did not think these Neo-Alliance folks were idiots, so surely they'd just...stop her before she got there, if they didn't want her to go.
She paused periodically to look over her shoulder at the guards. Were they keeping up? She was going to walk as far as she could to get as much fresh air as she could. She was a growing girl, she needed lots of sunshine and fresh air and citrus, too, to prevent scurvy. Could wizards get scurvy?
She spotted someone in the treehouse and waved while she was still a distance away. Could they come down? Pretend everything was normal? And absolutely positively not do anything bad? The close she got to the treehouse, the more she started thinking... Yeah, the guards weren't going to let her up there, because then they'd have to climb up too. And they did not look that nimble. |

Hugging his knees to his chest, Apollo tried to collect his thoughts and reason with himself over all the things when he glanced down at the grounds to see one of the young girls he recognized from classes being escorted with the guards. Ugh. She didn't look like a criminal and yet the way those guards were watching her, was rather unnerving. He saw her wave and something caught in his throat. Empathy, perhaps?
Swallowing, he straightened his legs to ready himself to climb down to the base of the treehouse, figuring if anything she could use some social interaction outside. "Hi. How are you?" Dumb question, Apollo. She was being treated like a felon. Not to mention you didn't even remember her name from lessons, so why you acting like you know her. |

Mamie was relieved that the kid climbed down from the treehouse to greet her. She squinted as he got closer. One of those Gryffindor first years? Aries? Atlas? No, this was the non-twin one...Umm what was his name. Started with an A? Apple? Yeah, that sounded right. "Hi, Apple," she greeted the slightly younger boy with a tired smile. "I'm..." she glanced back towards the guard. "I'm well." It was a lie, but...she didn't want to get this first year into trouble. "Having fun in the treehouse?" she asked, looking away from the kid and up into the tree again. It sure would be nice to have some unsupervised time outside, like this youngster apparently could.
She wondered if she'd ever be able to wander the Hogwarts grounds unsupervised. Ever...ever again? She doubted it. Mamie sighed, then tried to smile again for the benefit of this first year and the guards. See? She could pretend everything was fine. Well, she could try. |

It was Triple A in the Gryffindor First year Boys dorm, didn't she know? It was a requirement for that dorm that your name had to start with A. He frowned when she called him Apple at first thinking maybe she was talking to a fallen fruit. Were there even apples at Hogwarts? Maybe she was delusional from being locked up and was hallucinating? Or did she think HE was an apple? She wasn't going to eat him, was she??
It took a minute though before he realized she thought that was his name. "Apollo," he corrected, nonchalantly. He nodded at the well comment, sort of oblivious about it, but then again, what could she do or say? "Not really, Marnie" he answered honestly, figuring he'd guess at her name too. It did begin with an M he thought. "It just is a good place to think." Because thinking couldn't get one in trouble, could it?
He looked over to the guards and then back to the Hufflepuff. "You ever think maybe we're in some bad dream and we'll wake up tomorrow and everything will be good?" Was he going to get into trouble for that comment; perhaps. But then again, if half of hogwarts was locked up, did it really matter anyway? |

Mamie was not bothered at all by the fact she'd gotten the first year's name wrong. She'd spoken to him, what, once? That once being right now? Plus, Apple, Apollo, they had mostly the same letters. In fact, her guess was just as close as his. Well. His guess of her nickname. "Mamie," she said instinctively. She glanced back at the guards again. Was it okay for a pureblood to call her by a nickname? Was that too familiar? "Or...or Margaret, I guess." "What were you thinking about?"
She sighed at his question about the dreaming, giving only a half shake of her head. She was pretty sure it was best for the both of them if they kept things light and breezy. Small talk only, no big talk. Last time she'd attempted big talk, she'd cried, and she didn't want to cry in front of this tiny Gryffindor OR in front of the guard. So. Small talk only. |

How did one get Mamie out of Margaret? Apollo shrugged, because he probably had misheard her name being said since Marnie and Mamie sounded somewhat similar. At least it was the same number of syllables. He nodded at her though, "Whichever you prefer"
What was he thinking about? He looked past her at the guards who were watching her, almost threateningly. Why were they so untrusting? Was it wrong if he wanted to say freedom to be a kid and enjoy all that Hogwarts had to offer, as told in the stories by his family? Somehow though with the guards staring menacingly over Mamie, he lost all nerve he maybe had - some Gryffindor he was turning out to be - and forced a small smile. "Quidditch and flying." He lied, but only a small lie. It was on his mind, sort of, but wasn't his primary thoughts of recently. "You fly?" |

If Apollo had asked, Mamie could have told him her older brothers had trouble pronouncing Margaret when they were little, so the whole family took to the shortening of her name. She did not truly have a preference. Margaret was her name, but so was Mamie. She just didn't like the bad guys calling her by her family name.
She perked up, however, when Apollo brought up Quidditch. Her favorite sport! Unconsciously standing straighter, she nodded vigorously. "I love Quidditch!" she said. "And flying! Every week, I--" she broke off mid-sentence, glancing back at the guard(s) and lowering her voice to a less enthusiastic volume and allowing her shoulders to slump again. "Before the holidays, I flew every Tuesday. Professor Aguilar was helping me get better, since--" another glance "--since I didn't get to learn as early as you probably did."
"I'm going to play U14 Quidditch this summer," she announced proudly. Ooh. Maybe Apollo would be on her team. "Do you play?" |
