I bet Neville had hopes of being an Auror once he discovered his true past, but realized that when he was good with plants and not with a wand that he would be a better teacher instead. Plus he helped defeat Voldemort to make his parents proud anyway.

I think he would have wanted to be an Auror just because of what happened to his parents but probably changed his mind because of his magic issues.

It think he wanted to be a herbologist or a herbology teacher of some sort, since he is good with plant and stuff. But I agree with you two ^^ I bet he did maybe want to be an auror, to avenge his parents.

I suposse he had wanted to be a herobologist or an auror.Maybe he couldnt decide between them. On the one hnd he wanted revenge for his parents but on the other hand he did pretty good with plants.

I think Neville probably did want to be an Auror...in fact, he sort of was after the war, when he helped Harry and Ron round up the remaining Death Eaters (according to JK in an interview). I figure he probably didn't like it much after actually experiencing it, and that's when he started leaning towards being a professor

I agree. I think that he may have first aspired to be an Auror, just so he could avenge what Lord Voldemort did to his parents. But after attending Hogwarts and learning that he had a knack for Herbology, I have a feeling that he then aspired to be the next Professor of Herbology. However, he might surprise all of us and still become an Auror especially after the bravery he displayed in Order of the Phoenix and especially in Deathly Hallow II.

I don't think Neville ever really aspired to be an auror, but not because of what happened with his parents. I think it was because of his confidence problems. His Gran was always comparing him to his father and as he said in the first book, half his family thought he was a squib until he was like 8. He probably wanted to do something to make his Gran proud, but I don't think he thought he could be an auror ever. He probably didn't know what he wanted to do until he got to Hogwarts. I think once he got to Hogwarts and learned he had a knack for plants he probably wanted to do something with plants (because he is good with them and enjoys them). And he probably made the most fantastic Herbologist ever.

Possibly after he did all that stuff in Order of the Phoenix and in the rest of the war he may have thought "Oh I could be an auror," but I think he knew then that his true calling was plants and he had already made his Gran beyond proud, so he became an Herbology Professor.

I always sort of thought that maybe he wanted to be an Auror like his parents to make his Gran proud of him. But he always knew that he would never become one, so he couldn't really aspire to be one like Harry did. I always just thought he just didn't want to disappoint his Gran because if he did, then he might feel as if he was disappointing his parents.

I think that there was always some part of Neville that aspired to be an Auror, but another part of him always knew that it probably wasn't possible, until maybe the 5th book where he began to gain more confidence and skill. I also agree with others, I think that he partially wanted to be an Auror because he thought that it would make his Gran proud of him. And I think that was something that he wanted to do his whole entire life. Make his Gran proud of him and be his parents son. I think he was compared to his parents to much by his Gran. But, it is said that he did end up working as an Auror for a while after he got out of Hogwarts.

I think that when he went to Hogwarts he found a real skill in Herbology and then decided that was something that he would possibly want to do later in his life. And that was what he ended up doing, becoming a Herbology teacher at Hogwarts. I think that this was a good occupation for him because it was obvious throughout all of the books that he had skill in this class. It was said that it was one of the few classes that he actually did well in. So I think that it fit him well after his Auror job.

I think even though he was a bit embarrassed by them in St. Mungo's he was still proud of them for what they did. I think when he was growing up he wanted to be an auror, but discovered his abilities in Herbology and changed it up when he discovered his love for it.

However if he had another chance to fight for the "good" of the wizarding world, he'd be right there fighting alongside once again!
