Hello all! This discussion thread is focused around Neville's portrayals in the movies by actor Matthew Lewis. How did you think Matt did in this role? Were you disappointed? Did he go above and beyond your expectations? Any parts from the books you wished they'd kept in the movies? Or were there moments you were actually GLAD were cut from the films? Discuss it all here!

Matthew Lewis did a great job of portraying Neville in the films. He was an amazing actor, and did a great job of portraying Neville as he grew older. Even if he did have to wear a fat suit and fake teeth. Both him and the directors did a wonderful job of creating his character and I would say that he played the part to it's fullest.

One part that I wish was in the movie was the part where the trio and the Weasley's are visiting Mr. Weasley at St. Mungos and the trio runs into Neville visiting his parents. I was disappointed that they left that out because I feel that it would have been a good scene to show Neville's past. But, that is the only one that I can think of so far that should have put in. But I was disappointed in the choice of having Neville be the one to give Harry the gillyweed and to find the Room of Requirement. I still feel that should have been Dobby's role rather than Neville's.

Otherwise I thought that Neville was portrayed really well in the movies.

^ I agree with that and the movie crew and Matthew had said that they wanted to include that scene, but they didn't have time to make it. They were hoping to do it as soon as they can and they were equally disappointed for not being able to make it.

I actually was a BIT glad they didn't include that scene--only due to the fact that I KNEW I'd be crying buckets of tears if they'd kept it in! But I do agree that I would have loved to see Matt's acting in that scene, and it probably would have cleared a few things up for those viewers who hadn't read the books and might have found the backstory with his parents to be a bit confusing.

I think Matt did awesome in his role as Neville. I loved when he was younger, so quiet, innocent, fearful. Then in the end how he became a hero in so many ways at the end of Deathly Hallows. He's a fantastic actor!
