*shooooooooocheshersistalikewoooooooooaaaaaaaah*

The whole lesson thingy needs some editing but since you asked me to, I will put the Greek letters and how they are pronounced. As for a way to write them without copy/paste which is not the best of fun i'll say what i said at the Romanian Forum. I don't really know if this will help you but it helped me with Romanian letters.

You just have to click at your language bar (bottom right) ----> settings ----> and choose to add the Greek keyboard. You just have to find out practicing where the corresponding Greek letter is in your keyboard. Another way to do it is go to Control panel ----> languages and add it from there. You'll have to change keyboards between english and greek.

I hope this helped. Muwaaaaaah!!! I'll return with the Greek letters in a few minutes.

I'll give you here the Greek ABC (capital, lowercase) and the pronouncation

Α α (A a - cat)

Β β (like english "v")

Γ γ (like y in "yawn")

Δ δ (like th in "the")

Ε ε (like e in "bed")

Ζ ζ (Z z )

Η η ("see")

Θ θ (like th in "thunder")

Ι ι ("see") not stressed

Κ κ (K k)

Λ λ (like L l )

Μ μ (M m)

Ν ν (N n)

Ξ ξ (X x)

O o (O o)

Π π (P p)

Ρ ρ (R r)

Σ σ (and ς at the end of words) (S s)

Τ τ (T t)

Υ υ ("see")

Φ φ (F f or ph in philosophy)

Χ χ (Η in "hundred" stressed more or German Ich)

Ψ ψ (ps in ps in gaps)

Ω ω (another form of o) is sounds a lil more stressed a lil though that's mostly unnoticable but it's there.

There are also diphthongs (combination of two vowels or consonants that make one sound) but I'll give them to you another time.

It's important that when we stress a syllable we put an accent mark *΄*

ex. Καλό (kalo - "good")

Some Greeks today tend to eliminate the accent, especially on the news, but I'm totally against it. Ofcourse this is my opinion. There's a tendency to simplify Greek language, I know it's hard for most people to learn but the language loses a lot of its essence and beauty.

Capital Letters:

Α, Β, Γ, Δ, Ε, Ζ, Η, Θ, Ι, Κ, Λ, Μ, Ν, Ξ, Ο, Π, Ρ, Σ, Τ, Υ, Φ, Χ, Ψ, Ω

Lowercase Letters:

α, β, γ, δ, ε, ζ, η, θ, ι, κ, λ, μ, ν, ξ, ο, π, ρ, σ (ς at the end of words), τ,

υ, φ, χ, ψ, ω

Ok so we have some expressions, the letters...what about numbers? I'll put up to ten for now and add some more later on
(remember the bold letters is where you stress the word - you can see the accent in greek words)

1 ένα (ena)
2 δύο (thio - th like in "then)
3 τρία (tria)
4 τέσσερα (tessera)
5 πέντε (pende)
6 έξι (exi)
7 επτά/εφτά (epta/efta)
8 οκτώ/οχτώ (okto/ohto)
9 εννιά/εννέα (enia/enea)
10 δέκα (theka - th like in "then)

Σας ευχαριστώ -- I have been taking some Greek lessons at an Orthodox church here this fall, so some of this is familiar, though I am not fluent enough for much conversation, I fear. I will keep trying -- this certainly gives me some motivation!

One question -- I read the suggestion farther up about the language bar at the bottom left. I don't see it, though. Help?

Here is my first lesson:

Right now we are going to learn food names.

Chocolate: Σοκολάτα
Ice Cream: Παγωτό
Cookies: Μπισκότα
Pasta: Ζυμαρικά
Cherries: Κεράσια
Fruit: Φρούτα
Vegetables: Λαχανικά
Dessert: Επιδόρπιο

Here are the exercises: What do these phrases mean?

[1] Απολαμβάνω το παγωτό με τα κεράσια για το επιδόρπιο.

[2] Αγαπώ τα μπισκότα με την αρωματική ουσία σοκολάτας!

[3] Τα φρούτα και τα λαχανικά είναι καλά για το σώμα σας.

Kαλή τύχη!

I learned ancient Greek at school and forgot almost everything. I hope it doesn't bother you, when I talk in that peculiar way.
I try to refresh my Greek a bit, reading Herodotus, one page original, one page translation. (ok, translation most of the time, or else I'd stuck at the first page yet. ^_ ^)

So, the exercises:

1. I'd like ice cream and cherries for dessert.
2. I like chocolate cookies.
3. The fruits and vegetables are nice and ...

Hmm. για looks familiar, one of those nasty filling words, but I can't remember its meaning.

Thanks for your effort! = )

Anyone left?

I'm learning Biblical Greek and so now I'm confused. When did Γγ stop being g? Or did I miss something? It's still g on my keyboard when I use it to type Greek.
