Default Greek Lesson 1

LESSON 1

Hello everyone! It's tine for our firs lesson.(a little early though...sorry for that)
I'll be teaching you a few things about the language and the country of Greece.Just the basics actually, but I think they're enough.

1st of all, I just want you to post your names and the country you're from.

Now I wanted to show you a few fotos. These, were all taken in Greece.

this is a village at an island named Crete

this is one of Greece's most important ports.but this picture looks quite old...

this is another island, Chios

this is my lovely city, Thessaloniki.and that, is our White Tower

and this is again Thessaloniki

The ideal place for holidays, some might think. And it's kinda true.My country has this sort of beauty.Great sunny beaches, beautiful sights and stuff...we also have tasty Medditerranean dishes and good looking people ().Well, um, make your comments...if any.

The photos are so beautiful! I fell in love in Greece! I've always gone on holidays to Croatia but this year.. who knows..? I'll choose Greece perhaps. And the houses are so unusual! (I mean these white houses by the see) I love them.
Oh, and here's my name and country:
name: Natalia
country: Poland

Yes it's nice, but isn't my city beautiful? It's my favorite placein the world.

I don't post pics of Athens, like, the Parthenon or something coz I thought you should better see other places...

Once I'm sure more people saw these, I'll continue

Ok then, let's continue

Greece is mostly know for it's mythology, philosophers and language(despite our few current achievements....hah, I'm kidding)
But, as you might've noticed, all these facts belong to the past, an indeed proud-to-be-about past*blushes*
The tragedy is,that after the wars at around 1453(the disrupion of the Byzantine empire) Greece was in chaos(well kinda...I don't wanna be absolute) .
I guess you could tell me whether they teach you these things at school...
We learn these every year.I could tell you something about Greece's history or answer any questions you might have. So, go on

Yeah, Ive heard about that before.

Well, what I know about Greece the most was that the Olympics that was held there in 2004. People in Greece speak Greek, and the capital is Athens. Its location on the map is Southern Europe in the Mediterranean sea, and its temperature is mild winter, hot, dry summers..... stuff like that.

Professor Vicky. I saw that you have another alphabet in Greek. Do you use this alphabet and yours or only yours? And if only yours, was it hard to learn another?

We studied ancient civilisations back in high school, and the Greek civilisation was one of the few we covered. However, my memory is horrible, and I can hardly remember anything..

I'm talking about your letters. I see there in Greek forum another letters, not Latin. In Russia they have Cyrillic alphabet. I was just wondering if it's the same as yours, in Greece

I think she means the Greek alphabet and the Roman alphabet. You know, the Greek alphabet with Alpha, Beta, Gamma...and all that and the Roman which we're using at the moment..

Oh yes, thank you both.

The truth is that we only use the Greek letters in ur writing. They are a bit different than the Roman but we've always been using this so there's no confusion about that.Actually, I was planning on showing you the Greek letters today. And I will in a while. You'll see the differences.

Chemistry, because we studied the beta, alpha and gamma rays, and took its symbols.
