What do you think happened to the Death Eaters who survived the final battle? Did they flee, go to Azkaban, what? Do you think a new Dark Lord resurfaced later?

Do we know which ones survived? I know a lot of them probably died in the Battle at Hogwarts, but I would think a lot of survivors too. The Malfoys, for sure, and I think JKR siad that they were pardoned due to Harry's testimony about their change of loyalty. I would imagine that the rest would either say they were imperiused like some of them said the last time Voldie was in power or flee in which case the Aurors would have a fun time tracking them down and bringing them to justice ala Azkaban.
As for a new Dark Lord - oh yeah, I'm sure there would be more, there's always evil in the world, but I don't think any as evil and powerful as Voldemort, at least not for a long time.

Ooh good topic, but as MsMorgan what can i call you? says, do we know which ones survived, other than the Malfoys?
As for the survivors of the Final Battle, I imagine that it would be similar to what happened after the first war. Many chose to resume their normal lives (aka they fled). I could imagine that azkaban was reserved for those who thought they could continue getting away with the crimes... if they didn't stop fighting, then azkaban they went. But for most, it was just letting go of the past and starting a new life.
As for a new Dark Lord... there will always be more evil. Someone once told me of the comparison in real life between the Death Eaters & Voldemort to the Nazi's & Adolf Hitler. As what happen with Hitler, there will always be those who try and take control of the world and gain power. But if we do not let ourselves forget the past and what happened, then hopefully history will not repeat itself.

Well I think more of them were taken care of in the Battle of Hogwarts then the last time Voldie came to power because they were concentrated this time and thus easier to pick off and capture. And there were a lot more people gunning for them this time. They had an entire school of students and the whole Order and a few straglers in that battle. They never had so many people after them.
I find it funny that a bunch of students were stilling to stand up to them and Voldie when a whole entire community of adult witches and wizards were too scared to even say Voldemort's name!
I don't think anyone on the scale of Vodie rose up again, or caused just the wide spread despair and destruction like Voldie did, but of course there were some wanna bes that popped up. Evil doesn't take coffee breaks. So I think there was plenty for Harry and Ron to do in the Auror's department.

I doubt if any more Dark Lords came into existence after Voldemort, at least not for a while. And as far as what happened to the ones who were left alive, well, we know what happened to the Malfoys, they blended in to the rest of the wizarding world.
There are some Death Eaters I'm not really certain what became of their fate, most notably the Lestrange brothers. I have a feeling they would both kind of fade into the night and disappear, but they might resurface in some other country at some later time and join up with some crazy organization similar to the Death Eaters. One never knows, and the urge might be strong with them. We know how much they loved to use the cruciatus curse and that sort of thing. But I think they would have sense enough to disappear and not make their presence too well known.

I don't know it seemed to me that followers always need someone to bring that side of them out. Like they can't be evil on their own. Many of them it seemed were outcasts in school. Good students, well most of them anyways, but they weren't in the in crowd. Lucius might have been, but he had create his crowd you know. But I think many of them were able to blend in just like the Malfoys because they didn't have a reason to be evil anymore. They had no one to follow and no one to direct their evilness.
And I honestly believe that many of them didn't fully agree with what Voldie was doing. They just got into it for family reasons, thrill seeking reasons, and because they were outcasts, like Snape and the DE would accept him.

I don't think any of them really got away from the Final Battle, because Harry would make sure all of them got their punishments. Even if they did get away, the Aurors would find them. I don't think they could plead blackmail or Imperiused because Harry knows all of them and his testimony would really count. Anyway, most of the die hard Death Eaters died in the battle.
On the other hand, I think the Slytherin students who chose not to help are the ones who will be the new troublemakers, I mean there will always be those who hate Muggles and Muggleborns because of their upbringings, they are the ones who will be looking to someone to purify the wizarding race again. They're more likely to create problems in the wizarding world.
