| DEs and LV at the Movies Instead of dedicating a thread to each movie, we might as well combine them all in here! Here is where you can talk about our glorious Death Eaters and Voldemort and how they're portrayed in the film versions of the Harry Potter books. Did the moviemakers leave something out that really irked you? Did you picture Crouch differently? Anything at all, feel free to discuss, from Philosopher's Stone straight through to Deathly Hallows when it's made in four years' time. And...go! |

| To kick off some discussion, what did you all think about Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort? Did you have someone else pictured that could play him?
Personally, I love Ralph Fiennes and thanks to him I have this googly-eyed fascination with Voldemort. I was noncommittal when he first signed on but once I saw him in GoF, it sealed the deal for me. As I read the books, Fiennes' Voldemort is what came into my head every time Voldemort was mentioned. At the moment, I can't think of anyone else that could play him. |

I love Ralph as Voldemort, I really can't see anyone else doing it. I really hope he continues with it. I also love the guy (can't think of name right off of my head) who plays Mr. Malfoy. and of course Snape played by Alan Rickman!!
On a different note, I liked the first dumbledor better lol

Ralph Fiennes played an awesome Voldemort. That's exactly how I pictured him (only he had a nose). Alan Rickman also played a fantastic Snape, and, David Tennent was awesome playing Barty Jr.

I think the Death Eaters and Voldemort have been cast extremely well. Ralph Fiennes, Alan Rickman, Jason Isaacs and Helena Bonham-Carter are all excellent actors who portray their characters with style. I especially can't picture anyone else as Snape or Malfoy. Something that irked me though was the Death Eater costumes in GOF - I hated those awful pointed hoods; seriously, what were the costume department thinking with that Ku Klux Klan rubbish?! I much preferred Lucius' leather costume from OotP.

| Lucius + leather =
Yeah, I definately had issues with those robes as well. From my understanding they were supposed to be an hommage to your basic witches' hat but they came closer to Klan lids than anything else. I know it's a British movie and all but honestly, shouldn't they have been aware of that connection? Or they were and it was purposeful.

I personally think it was done on purpose, because whenever African Americans saw those robes, they were afraid and violence always occured, and I think that was the same idea for the death eater robes, since whenever wizards/witches saw death eater robes, they became afraid, I think they wanted that same connection, so that it'd be easier for us muggles to connect with the idea that the robes cause fear because of what they're associated with. I kinda find it funny that they chose an American outfit icon for a British movie, and that they've done their homework on the history, I can't deny that I'm impressed.

| But Bellatrix isn't supposed to be beautiful. Actually, I think Carter played up her sexiness a little too much for the character. From what I understand, Bella's supposed to look like she was one an attractive woman who's looks have been stolen by Azkaban, not to mention she's gone around the bend. I think Carter's look was near perfect. |

I must say, I think they hit the nail on the head when they cast Wormtail. Timothy Spall plays that role so SO perfectly, from the body language to the way he gives his lines to the way he looks. For me, I can't imagine anyone better to play that role. Also perfectly cast, in my opinion, was Lucius Malfoy. Jason Isaacs is phenomenal at Lucius, right down to the slick accent where the words are like they're coated with oil (and a splash of disdain!). And he's able to pull of those lovely locks of hair quite well
