First Year | Dumbledore....not very well portrayed... ok, i loved GoF, dont get me wrong it was amazing, but i think Dumbledore was not very well portrayed. in my opinion, Dumbledore is supposed to be a man that is almost fatherly towards Harry, always gentle and calm and never angry or violent. (this is how he was in the 1st and 2nd movie) in this movie however...he physically shakes harry and yells at him and is violent! is this really how dumbledore is supposed to act? maybe its just the actor but i was kind of dissapointed. Dumbledore gets all distressed and yells all the time which is not very dumbledorish in my opinion.
this is just how i feel, but does anyone else feel this way? |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Valera Orora Valentyne Fifth | i agree.
i prefer Richard Harris's version of Dumbledore, exactly like in the book.
Michael Gambon however doesn't really fit, including that silly little hat he always wearing. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Michelle Von Strausborg None | That's how I felt at first but then I started thinking about it and I kinda liked it more than Richard Harris's Dumbledore... I LOVED Richard Harris's performance and I think he did a very good portrayal of JKR's Dumbledore but I feel like Gambon's performance in GoF was more humanish... Dumbledore gets upset at Harry because he's afraid that he will get killed and I think that's very true to real life... my parents get angry at me if they're really concerned that I'm going to do something stupid. I dunno, I think Gambon's is stronger and shows more raw concern over Harry than Harris's... but at then end when he was talking about Cedric's death I thought Gambon did a horrible job! It was so monotone... like he had performed the scene 500000 times before... but that's just my opinion! don't flame me! ahhhhh |

| DD's charcater is not like that. We know DD from the stories. Rowling did his react towards Harry's being a champion is not what Mike had done at the movie. And because Rowling is the one who invented this character so DD is what Rowling made not what Mike/Kloves or Gambon did. |

| Agreed completely. This was one of the first things my friend and I noticed while we were watchign GoF. After Harry's name was pulled out of the Goblet, Dumbledore rushes after Harry to that little back room and shakes him and yells at him. My friend and I looked at each other and at the same time said "That's NOT Dumbledore." However that was one of the only minor flaws I found with the movie. |

| I agree, i way prefered Richard Harris as Dumbledore, he was much more lovable

| | | Gambon's Dumbledore needs to be more sensitive to Harry. I though I saw a little come out at the end of GOF. So we will have to wait and see how the rest of the movies play out. | |

First | I loved GoF also, but as I said before somewhere else....Michael Gambon is NOT Dumbeldore! He just doesnt do it for me...when I watch scene's with him it hurts.I LOVED Sir Richard Harris as DD. He looked more like the DD I always pictured while reading the book. He had that whispery voice and soft face....that's the DD from OoTP...he perfecyly matched the DD from PS.
In GoF, Michael Gambon was scary...as was said,he was screaming at Harry and that's not DD-ish! And to me..it looked like he was scared of the Goblet when the names came out.I mean yes it was bright..cover your eyes, but don't jump and look frightened.
I have a question though...If not Michael Gambon as DD then who? |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ana-Marie "Padge" Aylesworth Fifth Year | If you notice a difference between the Dumbledores its because of the different script writers. As for the clothes, that is what he is given, he cant really pick. But he performed well, as did Richard Harris Quote: |

| Yeah, but now that warner bros. trademarked it they could change it completely if they wanted to... Dumbledore could turn into a crazy old man wearing teapot slippers or something in the next movie... LOL but teapot slippers are pretty cool... But yeah I'm not too surprised that he's so different. For people who don't read the books though (which are quite a few people, I've found out) Dumbledore is whoever is on the screen... If that makes any sense... But if they keep Dumbledore as sort of physically stronger and more violent I think they'll have a problem in #6 because he's so worn and frail... Maybe they'll take it down a notch... I don't know if I'm rambling so I'll stop now. |

| I think Gambon totally over-played Dumbledore. And the accent kind of annoyed me towards the end. I hated the scene where he shakes Harry. It's too violent for Dumbledore. |

| Wow, yeah you all read my mind. I thought the same thing. To me, Dumbledore was very calm, like he knows what he's doing, everything ok when he is around. There were parts like where he is like "The worlds ending, help me!" No!! I think that he should have been more confident and like he had things under control and that you feel safe when he is around!! That's how I would feel around the book Dumbledore, safe. But the movie Dumbledore.... lol, well I wouldnt want him shaken' me thats for sure! But! Its over and done, thats how the movie came out and thats just how it is. Becides, nothing can compare to the books, not even the movie. |

gawd that is scary.. every1 here has read my mind on this subject...
i blame the writers... the actors are just taking the words from the paper... my opinion on the matter anyway. |

Fourth | yeh i quite agreed to that... actually im a bit suprised how aggressive Dumbledore is...but in the 3rd movie is quite outgoing there like you dont see his authority and now is so full power! i think they over-reacted to that... |

| Yeah! I know but There is a story and they must respect its characters. I only show what Rowling did on the paper to the screen.I think Rowling was upset of these changes. Quote: |

| This is not the way DD shows his worry to Harry. Have you read that DD shaked Harry like what happened in the movie??? Never and he was in book 4 worried also. |

| I agree, I couldn't believe it when he was shaking Harry, it was very out of character. & also that scene where he is talking about the pensieve, and how he can't find the answer he's looking for (or something similar, I can’t remember exactly what he said). He is showing too many of his flaws, & we don't really see that in the books until OotP/HBP.
I think Gambon can make a good Dumbledore (I quite liked him in PoA, at the end where Harry says "we did it" & he says "did what?"), however in this movie he is not portrayed the way the books describe him, |

| I dont think that Gambon fully understands Dumbledores character.
Dumbledore is very wise, old and powerful but Gambon doesnt portray him as that. When he says his lines, he says them really fast as though he doesnt even think about what he's saying and he's energetic, where as Dumbledore would talk slower as though he knew what he was talking about and he's old so he so he wouldn't exactly be jumping around the place would he?
I didnt like it when he grabbed Harry either when Dumbledore would have stood and thought about the situation and kept calm. It was weird at the end when Dumbledore visited Harry in the dorm. I'm sure there was other things he did aswell that were OOC but I cant remember it now.
The part that I did think was good, was at the end of POA when he said 'did what ...'. JKR even said she loved that part. But I guess we just have to hope that he gets better in the next movie. I mean its not as if Richard Harris can come back can he. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Professor Zaria Dainsie | I think it would have been more the director than him.
As soon as I saw that scene that was the first thing I said, Dumbledore just would NOT do that; especially to Harry. It was completely out of character and it just looked strange. All the others I thought were closer to their true characters than ever, but Dumbledore seemed to move away from his which is sad. Richard Harris was Dumbledore to me. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Shayna Reagan Fourth Year | I definitely agree. The scene where he grabs Harry and starts shaking him and practically shouting is like nothing Dumbledore would ever have done. I mean, in the end of the 5th book in Dumbledore's office, when Harry's smashing all his ornaments, Dumbledore was just sitting there calmly, not saying a word, waiting for Harry to vent all his anger out, that's what his true nature's like. |
