Is it just me, or are a lot of people noticing that the pictures all have muggle clothing? For instance, Harry and Cedric are wearing windbrakers with plastic cord ties and nylon insides in their house colors. Hogwarts finally decide to go industrial? What's the deal?
| 1) Muggle clothing features heavily in the books between classes and the such.
2) It's just not practical to have actors (who's time is already limited because of Labour Laws) running around in robes and potentially breaking bones etc ... which would halt filming dramatically.
Of course they don't want to get rid of the uniform, we've seen plenty of shots of them. Muggle clothes are as much a part of the Wizarding World as robes are, especially for kids. Quote: |

| No they're not! In the books they wear muggle clothes to the QWC as a disguise, kids wear muggle clothes between classes and the uniform isn't entirely muggle anyway!
Use common sense guys. Not even J.K.rowling has them in robes 24/7. |

This is because they dont want muggles to find out that they are in fact wizards and witches. |

| Ya i mean they are hardly at all i their robes, but I guess it's ok, as long gass they don't start them wearing name brand clothes, like Old Navy , Hollister , American Eagle, Aeropostle whatever the name brand clothes are in the Uk, if they did that the movies would be down the tubes. Personally i'd kill to wear the robes 24/7 but anyways |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marcella Riddle Graduated | The difference is, in the films they show less class scenes and when not in classes, kids don't wear uniforms, that goes for muggles and wizards. Kids loathe uniforms - it might be hard for us to understand but wearing robes 24/7 would get irritating for the characters in the books and they are permitted to wear muggle clothes outside of class. The films are doing nothing wrong in that respect. |

| yes and now that I have just re-watched all the movies they are in robes a lot actually in the beginning of the movies, even in the third but towards the end they are more in muggle clothes as they are more so in trouble, accept in the second one where harry is virtually in robes the entire time, and it's true uniforms are so god forsaken awful, i wouldn't mind if we got to wear robes though XD |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marcella Riddle Graduated | Exactly. All the class scenes have them in robes and in JK's books, that's all that's required. Any other time they can wear what they want and I don't see why it should be different in the films. |

In the books it is a robe over a pair of jeans and a shirt. It is only during non classroom scenes that they wear muggle clothing. I think it is suitable. |

| I dont think theres anything wrong with putting them in 'muggle clothes coz they cant always wear the uniforms...the only problems i have is with Hermione's dress...coz its suppose 2 be blue but wot a surprise...it's PINK, i mean dont get me wrong she looks nice in it n everything its just i wish that they would have kept it blue. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marcella Riddle Graduated | The Dress Robes are um not robes lol. Although Dan's is - that can be seen in the clip where he dances with Parvati. The girls aren't in robes though. The pink dress looks awful, not to mention the hideous ruffles. I wore dresses like that when I was ten! Hermione's meant to look like a sophisticated young lady, not a bridesmaid at her aunts wedding! Blue would've looked so much nicer. Plus the pink clashes horendously with Krum's red outfit! DOH! |

I mean....lets take an example, you dont want to see her wearing a wedding gown in the middle of the forbidden forest while lupin is chasing her and harry. lol |

| I think all this changing is the director, well, the different directors. I was very surprised when the third movie came out and the day-to-day robes were different. But he (Cuaron) also brought in the Muggle clothing, which is actors said they liked. I kind of wished that they would stick to the "plans", but that's not the point of the movie is it? To be worried about matching, or mis-matching clothes, for that matter. But I totally agree with everyone, it's something to get used to, but we can't do anything now. |

| Thank you, Marcella! Yes, her dress is hideous!! Ugh, and if she picked that out she has no taste! Quote: |

| True, but they have them in muggle clothes 80% and their robes the remaining 20%. They were in their robes much more in the first two films. I personally think that the actors(students) complained that they had to wear them, so they decided to improvise. Which if that were so, would be ridiculous. But, who really cares? There's nothing we can do about it anway. |

| That's a wrong assumption. J.K.Rowling brought muggle clothing into the books. Check if you don't believe me. The kids never wear their uniforms out of class. Period. So why should they in the films?!
The reason why muggle clothes are prominent in PoA is simple - PS/CoS had more class scenes. Plus they had the kids in robes in times when they shouldn't have been - no kid wears school uniforms when they don't have to yet in PS they were wearing their school robes even when they didn't have to! How unreal!
It's just that in PoA, there were less class scenes so less robes. Honestly, would you wear your uniform on the weekend/after class? Of course you wouldn't and neither do they both, in canon and in the films. |

| True, and a false fact on my part, I apologise. No one wants to wear school uniforms when they don't have to, I understand that. ::shudders:: Quote: |

| I don't know. I think I'm starting to agree with Marcella that it's the books that, Rowling, that have brought the clothes, etc. in. But you're right, what can we do now? |

| Actually, I was thinking that their clothes, their normal clothes, were getting a bit more wizardish. And they have shown them in their uniforms and robes...

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marcella Riddle Graduated | Yeah ^ the 'muggle' clothes definitely aren't what we'd wear. Just look at how the Weasley's dress! And mostly all their clothes are one-toned jumpers and trousers, nothing with any fancy labels on or anything. Which is rather good. They don't even wear trainers in the films, yet in the books they do. So *shrug* I don't see the costumes as a problem. |
