Ron is in love with Hermione. He reacted the way he did at the Yule Ball because he is confused. He doesn't consciously realize that he has feelings for her. It took Hermione going to the ball with Viktor to spark a reaction. Hermione gets the point but Ron doesn't.

Ron has always been madly in love with Hermione and her annoying study habits and such. Seeing her at the Yule Ball made him realize EXACTLY how pretty she was, and he used Viktor Krum as a curtain to hide his feelings behind.

This statment, I agree with it totaly. Ron feels jealous towards Victor as he was the one who took Hermione in the Yule Ball. He of course wouldn't say that he wanted to go with her after he see her as a girl in book 4. He made Victor as a curtain to not show his jealsouy. I think that Ron realized that he loves Hermione after the Yule ball. He didn't know why he feels jealousy but he then knew that he had feelings for her.

I think he was just sulking. I doubt he loves her, i mean he didn't even think of her as a girl until she told him she was one.. so i think he just sees her as a good friend.

Ron was already in love ! Harry's reaction to Hermione was that of a guy friend looking at a girl friend in awe. krum was Ron's Quidditch hero and seeing him with Hermione left him seething! He was jealous,annoyed and sad rolled all into one. The only thing left to do was ignore her,instead of gawking over her like everyone else did. Just another hint and surre reason R/Hr will work..lol (sorry i went off topic...couldnt resist!)

well i sorta think its a crush/love thing but maybe also jealousy of krum or because she didnt go with him to the ball.

So true. Plus, from now on he uses Krum as a sort of excuse to a least come close to the subject of love with Hermione which he couldn't otherwise. But Ron still beats around the bush and Hermione knows he does; she's just waiting to hear it from him.

Yes, I agree with Lee. The entire scene is funny. It's meant to be funny, it's a classic literary strategy. The humor lies in the fact that we, the readers, know the truth about a situation, yet the characters don't. Misunderstandings are one of the most classic cases of humor and tragedy in plays. In this case, the humor is that Ron like Hermione, Hermione likes Ron, but neither character is willing to come out and say it. So we get to watch their frustration, yet we know that they would be less frustrated by simply telling one another. In the Yule Ball scene, Ron is reacting to Viktor because he believes Hermione really likes him, yet we know she doesn't, and sh eknows she really likes Ron. It's funny.

I think he was jealous and he was mad at himself for being jealous and I think that he was in love with Herminoe but didn't want to admit to himself

I think that he had feelings for Hermione, but he didn't know if he was in love with her, and I think that he was jealous of Krum because he took Hermione to the Yule Ball.I also believe that he saw her first just as a friend, not as a potential girlfriend.

he's really just in the denial stage of love. he's jealous of Krum right. at first he doesnt like ker now hes in love with her

well i felt really bad for Ron because we all know that he likes her and she likes him but they just don't know how to show it to each other! that's why he got so jealous when she went to the ball with krum and i think that Hermione was doing it on purpose but thats just me
