I think Tom Riddle Jr. killed his father not only out of hate for being abandoed by him but also as a first step to gaining immoartality. I belive even at his young age he already knew what he wanted, to live forever.

I don't think Tom Sr. knew about Tom Jr. When he found out about Merope he left her, not knowing she was with child. I think Tom Jr. killed him and his parents not only to try and hide his mud blood lineage but also for the way he treated Merope.
