Fred/Angelina one-shot fic. I wrote it way back in June but didn't post it till now. Hope you like!

Of course, I don’t even know why I decided to go to the Yule Ball with Fred in the first place. Alright, he’s funny and outgoing and confident, but I suppose it was the spur of the moment that agreed with him.

I walk down to the main part of the Gryffindor common room, smoothing down my deep purple dress robes. My black hair is down, framing my face. Fred is nowhere in sight.

Typical, I think to myself, hoping that he arrives soon. I don’t plan on arriving at the ball late.

Finally, after ages it seems, Fred gallops down the stairs holding a wand. His red hair is tousled but his dress robes seem like they’re in order. Walking up to me, he presents me with the wand. I look at it curiously.

“C’mon, Angelina, hold it and give it a tiny squeeze,” he instructs, placing it in my hand with an impish grin.

“Can I trust you?” I ask him, eyeing it and not squeezing it yet. It seems solid enough.

Fred doesn’t say anything and shrugs playfully, which I decide is not a good thing. However, I go ahead and squeeze the end. A bouquet of flowers form with a poof, so in my hands are flowers, not a wooden wand.

“Aw, thanks,” I tell Fred, hugging him and smelling the flowers. They’re all sorts of colours—just what I like; he knows me well.

“No problem,” he replies, leaning over and squeezing the middle of one flower. It squirts water down my front.

“Fred!” I groan. Will he ever grow up? But I laugh as he produces his real wand and dries the water up.

Reaching for my hand, he decides at the last minute not to take it, and leads us out of the portrait hole. He tells me jokes and prompts me to tell him some on the way to the Great Hall. Of course, I can’t think of any, so he continues to make up amusing lines and whatnot. That’s one of the things I like about him: there’s never a dull moment when he’s around, that’s for sure!

The opening ceremony and dinner whiz past, and soon it’s on to the dancing part. The Weird Sisters are playing, whom I think are totally weird as their name suggests, but Fred seems to like them. He whisks me onto the dance floor and we start dancing.

I suppose that’s the one thing I measure up to him in, besides Quidditch, of course. It’s definitely a new experience, dancing with Fred. He takes it to a whole different level. I’m not hesitant to follow. In a matter of seconds, we’re dancing like nobody’s watching. Of course, nearly everyone is watching…or should I say gaping? Our arms are flailing and our legs are flying and our heads are bobbing.

Fred grins widely at me. “You’ve got the hang of it!” Both eyebrows are arced.

I give him a good-humored glare. “I always had the hang of it, thank you very much.” To this, he only laughs and we continue dancing.

My heart is pounding in my ears with exhilaration and I can feel some sweat make its way to my brow, but I keep dancing anyway. Jiving with Fred isn’t something I do every day, and I vow to make the best of it.

Taking my hands, he swings me around and around till I’m quite dizzy; it’s amazing I don’t bump into anyone. Oh, besides the fact that everyone else is standing at least a few feet away in fear of being fatally wounded.

Soon I realize we’re both very tired from dancing so raucously and I pull him out of the mob of dancers. “Butterbeer?”

Fred shakes his head to this, his chest rising up and down. “Firewhisky.” He gets that light in his eye, which I know (from years of experience) may not bode well. However, feeling a need for something spicier tonight, I agree and make my way to the drinks table.

We collect two huge mugs of firewhisky and select a table aside from the others. In no time, we’re finished our cups and help ourselves to another mug. I’ve noticed that Fred hasn’t touched me yet besides grabbing my hands ferociously during the dance. Finding myself wanting him to show me a higher degree of affection, I sigh.

Then we walk out to the front of Hogwarts Castle, which is set alight with fairies flickering in the night air.

“Let’s catch a fairy!” Fred exclaims excitedly, the firewhisky in his mug threatening to slosh out.

I shake my head. “No, I’m not up for that.”

Pouting, Fred is still determined. “Fine. I’ll catch one.” He leisurely meanders towards a bush where a large crowd of fairies is hovering by.

Confident, he sticks out his hand and tries to grab one, but with no avail. The fairies fly out of his grasp. He tries again. And again.

People are passing, some who I know, and all I can do is give them an apologetic look. I find this quite embarrassing to have my date acting like a five-year-old. Not that he doesn’t act like that all the time, anyways.

I’m surprised when he cries, “I got one! Come look!” He opens his hands a crack to reveal a jumping fairy. The openings between his hands let streams of light through. “Cool, isn’t it?”

Smiling, I nod. “Very.”

“Do you want to hold it?” he asks, looking at me hopefully.

I shrug. “Sure.”

He instructs me to put both my hands in his cupped ones. When we touch, I feel something stimulating. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the fairy bouncing around. After a few minutes, I let it go back to its friends.

To my utmost pleasure, Fred’s hand makes a dash for mine. There it is again: the slightly exhilarating rush. It doesn’t seem awkward at all; it’s like it was meant to be there. I laugh at the thought.

“What?” Fred inquires of my sudden outburst.

I shake my head, still smiling. “Nothing. Just a girl moment.”

Rolling his eyes and smirking, Fred states, “Then I better not push the subject.” His thumb caresses my hand as we take a brief stroll.

“Do you feel like dancing again?” he asks politely, a glimmer in his eye.

“Actually, I’m kind of worn-out,” I answer, hoping that I don’t crush his feelings or anything. Well, it is the truth. We had danced for so long before that the spinning lights aren’t appealing to me right now.

Fred ponders for a few moments. “Not fast dancing, slow dancing. We can do it right here.” He motions to the lights from the fairies flicking around.

A smile spreads on my face. “That sounds good.”

Gazing into my eyes, he puts a hand on my waist and we start to dance a bit uncomfortably at first (since we’re used to the fast pace). Soon, though, we get acclimated to it and he’s drawing me closer to him so that our bodies touch. I can feel the warmth of his chest and I rest my head on his shoulder as we dance on the lawn, surrounded by the glow of fairies. He doesn’t kiss me, he doesn’t say anything, but he holds me. And that’s enough.
