|  Why are the Potters so rich? Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs
This has been bugging me and my brother mentioned it to me the other day.
Why were Lilly and James Potter so rich? They were only 21 when they died yet they have left enough gold to keep there son very confertable during his life! i dont think it was just interest!
Any ideas why they have so much money?

yeah ive been thinking about that too.. i think the inheritance has to do with it and maybe they started there careeers at an early age...bcuz lily was obviously incredibly smart..ad so was james...and they probably did have auror jobs - cuz they were in the OotP

Someone asked me the same question not too long ago. I think the Potters are so rich because of inheritance probably from James' or Lily's parents. J.K. Rowling doesn't really focus on why they have so much money. So it's either inheritance or as most say their jobs after they were done with school.

i thin k its james money since lily was a muggleborn and it was all wizards gold - and besides petunia would most likely be rich too if it was from lilys side

yeah they Dursleys are rich because of Vernon! but i dont think they would be Aurors because well they were only 21 if they were they hadnt been doing it long and! remember they were in hiding for a good year before they died!

I think they r rich because if they werent then harry wouldnt have any money so J.K Rowling probly doesnt have a reason of why they r so rich. its probly just part of the story......

^ i agree i think harrys a decendent of gryffindor because in cos DD says "only a true gryffindor could have pulled that out of a hat" about the sword... could he have meant a REAL gryffindor? and also i read somewhere that harry is an heir or something because his name kinda sounds like it and when fleur says it with her accent it sounds like heir-y

i think it's obvious.
the Potter family is clearly filthy rich, and they were pure-blood too, and James appeared he didn't have any siblings, and grandparents Potter wasn't mentioned in the books, so we can assume that they died before James died, and James inherited the fortune from his family and than marry Lily, so they were rich.

This actually has always baffled me. I mean we really never knew what James and Lily did aside from working with the Order. Plus, with all that money they left Harry, it eats my mind out in wonder. I’m gonna go with the whole Inheritence business but I hope Jo explains it in the last book....
