Default Who introduced you to the HP Books?

So Who?

Was it your granma? Your Dad, a friend? Somebody is something attracted you to read the Harry Potter Books, but what?
Here you can discuss and thank the people who told you:

That's a very good question! The 4th book had only been out for a couple of months and everyone was reading it and talking about it. I didn't understand what was so wonderful about it. So one day I just went to the bookstore and got the first two books in soft cover. At first I was like what is this? But then I loved them! And then I realized that the other two books were in hard cover, so I borrowed my friend's copies. I got tired of waiting for the soft covers, so I gave up and got the whole series in hard cover. And that's my story. :sorcerer:

I remember it so well, it was about 3 years ago, maybe 4, i was sitting in the Canteen and my friend kept going on about Harry etc.. and i just asked what it was about, she explained the story up to book 3 for me but she took me out and i got the book, but forgot about it for about 6 months until i was cleaning my room. Im addicted now so shes entirely to blame.

My mom heard about Philosopher’s Stone when it was released and being an avid reader, she decided to read it; she was an immediate fan. I wasn’t a reader then so my mom told me to read HP and the Philosopher’s Stone. I was so reluctant but in the end I read it coz my mum convinced me to read it by saying that there’s a lot of chess played in the book (I love chess). :sorcerer: I was addicted at once and I hunted down the rest of the HP books and now, I am an obsessed fan thanks to my mom. :sorcerer:

I become a fan of it right after she wrote the fourth book.I liked reading and I saw everybody else reading the books so I decided too to.I read the first all the way to the fourth book in 3 days,I was addicted.I then looked up Harry Potter on the Internet and found DarkMark, and then I saw SS as a afflite(sp),so I was visiting here alot and I signed up yesterday(after a long time of lurking).

i was actually kind of a late person when it came to harry potter. i read all of the books this past summer come to think of it. but anywho the person who got me reading the books was actually this girl i'm not particularly fond of. but she doesn't really read books, and when she said she read harry potter books i figured it must be pretty good for her to actually read something.

Hmm...well I didn't start reading them until two summers ago. Right after the first movie came out. I remember my mom kept telling me to read them cuz I had run out of books...I kept saying no cuz I thought they sounded dumb. And some friends would tell me to read them and all, but I still said no. Even my Grandma would tell me to. But then the movie came out and I watched it on the last day of school. I didn't get to finish it, but I came home, bought it, and watched the rest and loved it. Then before I went off to camp I bought the first two books, read them and bought the rest. I've loved them ever since!!!

It all started September, 1999, but I remember it like it was yesterday..... My 4th grade Gifted teacher, Mrs.Torres (god bless her) told us about several books that we were going to be reading with her. The Secret Garden, a classic, sounds pretty good. Silverwing, ooh, I like the sound of it. Harry Potter, huh? What kind of a name is Harry Potter? Sounds really dorky.... How very wrong I was....
Well, I bought the required books. Harry Potter was going to be the first one we read, so I read the summary on the back. A kid wizard? I thought to myself. Riiiiiiight.... I had never read a fantasy book before that. I considered them stupid. Now, I like to spend free time in the Sci Fi section at Barnes and Nobles.
We read the first chapter in class. I was like, huh? I didn't get it.... Homework: Read Ch.2. I did. A snake escapes from the zoo. How did that happen? Interesting, nonetheless....
As I kept reading the book, I liked it increasingly more and more and more. I read it at home, and soon, I was finished while the rest of the class was still mumbling about how boring the book was. The only people in the whole entire fourth grade gifted group who liked the book were me and a kid named Ernie. When I finished SS, I asked Mrs. Torres if I could borrow her copy of CoS during free time and that night I owned my own hardcover copy. That summer I read the fourth book, which my dad bought for me when it came out, but I didn't read PoA until 6th grade.
My Potter-mania, however, didn't start until sometime around the beginning of fifth grade, when I had read the books at least twice each. By now, I've read the first four at least 10 times each and I'm reading OotP for the fourth time.
Also, I still have the receipt from when I bought the first book, and I'm very close to framing it and hanging it on the living room wall....
