| Aberforth is the bartender at the Hog's Head in Hogsmeade, as revealed by J.K. Rowling in an interview and Aberforth looks like Dumbledore.
We don't know much about Aberforth. We know he is off, was a member of the Order if the Phoneix and that he is Dumbledore's informant.
i.e. - Sybill Trelawney told Harry that when she was being interviewed for a job at Hogwarts at the Hog's Head, and just after she had (unknowingly) spoken the prophecy involving Harry and Lord Voldemort to Albus, that they were interrupted when the 'rather uncouth barman' burst in the room along with Severus Snape. Severus claimed to have become lost on the stairs.
And when Voldemort returned to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a teaching job some ten years after leaving school, Dumbledore shows that he has unexpected knowledge of Voldemort's meetings at the Hog's Head. He explains his knowledge by saying that he is 'friendly with the local barmen'.
I just re-read HBP. Toward the end when Dumbldore & Harry walk to Hogsmeade so they can apparate Dumbldore makes the comment to Harry that when he has things to do he often appears to be having a drink at the Hog's Head.
Do you think Aberforth sits at the bar and pretends to be Dumbledore so Dumbledore can move freely around? |

| Just because he's werid doesn't mean he's stupid - look at Luna... I think it's interesting that Aberforth is always disguised
when he works in the Hogs Head. He's smart enough not to advertise that he looks just like DD. And not many people know that Aberforth is the barman at the Hogs Head.
I think he might pretend to be dim-witted so others don't suspect how much he really knows. |

Grace Oliver Diagon Alley | He is indeed the barman at the Hogs Head. It was bugging me for ages where I read it, but at last I've found the source
Taken from JK Rowling's website (News section/ 15th August 2004/ J K Rowling at the Edinburgh Book Festival) "Why is the barman of the Hog’s Head vaguely familiar to Harry? Is he Dumbledore’s brother?
Ooh—you are getting good. Why do you think that it is Aberforth? [Audience member: Various clues. He smells of goats and he looks a bit like Dumbledore]. I was quite proud of that clue. That is all that I am going to say. [Laughter]. Well yes, obviously. I like the goat clue—I sniggered to myself about that one." |

| I've thought about him being the barman at the Hog's Head. But, as always, I'm not entirely convinced of that. Maybe Aberforth is just living a normal life, but everyone thinks he's an estranged man and pays no attention to him...However, I really think there's more to it than that! |

There is more to Aberforth than meets the eye. He just flies under everyone's radar right now.
I think Aberforth will be important in book 7. |

Was a member of the Order of the Phoneix during the 1st war and could still be a current member.
Aberfoth was Dumbledore's informant at least twice before with very important information.
1) Sybill Trelawney told Harry that when she was being interviewed for a job at Hogwarts at the Hog's Head, and just after she had (unknowingly) spoken the prophecy involving Harry and Lord Voldemort to Albus, that they were interrupted when the 'rather uncouth barman' burst in the room along with Severus Snape. Severus claimed to have become lost on the stairs.
2) When Voldemort returned to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a teaching job some ten years after leaving school, Dumbledore shows that he has unexpected knowledge of Voldemort's meetings at the Hog's Head. He explains his knowledge by saying that he is 'friendly with the local barmen'.
Also, Aberfoth use to pretend to be Dumbledore so Dumbledore could search for the horcruxes unnoticed. I recently re-read HBP. Toward the end (Chapter 25 page 553 US hardback) when Dumbldore & Harry walk to Hogsmeade so they can apparate to find the locket this statement made by Dumbledore struck me: "But what will people think when they see you are leaving, Professor? Harry asked, his mind on Malfoy and Snape.
"That I am off into Hogsmeade for a drink", said Dumbledore lightly. "I sometimes offer Rosmerta my custom, or else visit the Hog's Head... or I appear to. It is a as good a way as any of disquising one's true destination."
I didn't even register that the 1st time I read the book! That is very curious indeed!
I do think Aberforth will help Harry in book 7.
I think Aberforth has the missing necklace now. And the story will continue with him. That is how we'll learn about Dumbledore and either find the locket or be put onto the path that will lead us to it if Aberforth didn't keep it.
I think Mundungus stole the locket from the Black house.
In HBP Harry catches Mundungus outside of the Three Broomsticks with a old, ugly brown case that looked like it held the entire contents of a junk shop. Ron saw saw that some of the stuff belong to Sirius because it had the Black family crest on it. Harry got really angry and than Mundungus apparated. Right before Ron & Harry reconized Mundungus, Mundungus gave a package to Aberforth. Once Aberforth saw Ron & Harry he put the package that was wrapped in brown paper under his cloak and swiftly left the scene. I think this is the locket. And Aberforth has it or had it.
I think when Harry looks for the horcruxes one of the trio will remeber this and go off to find Aberforth. Who knows Aberforth might even know who R.A.B. is and can help Harry in that way. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: unsorted | GoF, when Hagrid hides in his hut after Rita Skeeter exposes him as a giant, DD mentions that Aberforth is bad at spelling, so he could very well be "R.A.B." |

Sixth | Consider this. When JKR said Dumbledore was dead, could she have been referring to Aberforth not Albus? Could Aberforth have died in HBP? Albus's portrait appeared when Minerva was named headmistress, not when he died. |

Grace Oliver Diagon Alley | Interesting, but I think that Albus Dumbledore is really dead. He's not the kind of man to go into hiding (as in Order of the Phoenix). JKR has more or less shot down all threads that say Albus Dumbledore is not dead. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Emma | He's certainly not hiding....he is the bartender that served Harry and the potential DA members at the Hogs Head. Remember, Harry thought he looked familiar? Also, in Rowling's bios, it states that this is where he works. I have a feeling that he may be some sort of factor in the Seventh Book, because he is there, but overlooked! |
