Harry and Neville both have the same birthday. What if he picked Neville? Whould neville's parents died for him? Would he have a scar? Whould he be alive?

I think that Neville would survive and he would have a scar and Harry would have his parents at ST.mungos

Maybe they'd take eachothers places in life. ie. Harry the geek (sorry neville, i love you!!!) and Neville the 'chosen one' who defetes voldamort...who knows....

Personally, if Voldermort picks Neville, Neville may be as courageous as Harry but I think that he is not the risk-taker or adventure person like Harry. Do you remember in Sorcerer's Stone, Neville once prevented Harry to go to see the mirror by using his visible cloak because Neville is a wizard who prefers to stay in the comfort zone while Harry is more a type of wizard who likes to go beyond comfort zone. In addition, it needs someone who has be like Voldermort; ambitious, cunning and have the courage to adventure in very dangerous places. I don't see from Neville while I see more from Harry. I think if it was Neville, he would the scar but i don't think that he would be able to survive against Voldermort. The friends like Hermonie, Sirius, Dumbledore and Ron are very important to Harry's life, i don't know if Neville would get as much support as Harry. Furthermore, it needs intelligent to get to Voldermort while i think that Harry is little more intelligent than Neville. Yes, Neville's parents would for sure died for him but if Neville ever happen to meet Voldermort, I think that he may not be what it takes to survive against Voldermort. I always see there is difference between Harry and Neville.

Actually, Neville's birtday is on the 30th of July, whereas Harry's is on the 31st.

The whole reason can be a coward sometimes is because of his grandma, that's just a guess, unlike harry who grew up with crappy aunt and uncle.

But you would think that how Harry grew up not knowing anything about his parent he would be the coward.

Voldemort would have successfully killed Neville that first night. The only reason Harry survived was because his mother was given a choice to live (because Snape had asked Voldemort not to kill her) and chose to die for her son. Voldemort would have had no reason to give either of Neville's parents a choice - he would have just killed them, then killed Neville.

It's also why James' death didn't save Lily - he wasn't given the choice, Voldemort had always intended to kill him.

You're right.. And I suppose that's why Harrys death protected everyone at the battle of Hogwarts too, because he chose to die... Or?

It would seem so, Harry certainly seems to think so in his little speech to Voldemort.

I've always liked this because it means you can basically trace Voldemorts fall back to Snape's love for Lily.

If Voldemort had picked Neville, I really do not think that he would ahve survived. Neville didn't have friends like Ron and Hermione, and without them even Harry would not have accomplished the defeat of Voldemort. At least Voldemort was right in this respect, that Harry was the bigger threat and he wanted him taken out before he could develop his skills as a wizard and become even more deadly.

Voldemort probably picked Harry because he was the easiest to get to. James best friend was Voldemorts spy. If he had picked Neville then Nevilles parents would probably have chosen Dumbledore as there secret keeper, effectively making it impossible to get to Neville. The war would never have ended at that point and would have carried on quite differently. The prophecy wouldn't have been started on that night, or maybe not ever.

It might be that Alice or Frank wouldn't have been able to die for Neville. What if they hadn't been there, or they weren't given the same option as Lily?

But I think if Neville had survived, he could have defeated Voldemort just as well. But I think everything would have happened faster, and differently.

If Voldemort has chosen Neville as the more dangerous, Snape would have never have alerted Dumbldore to his master's plan because Lily was in no danger. Voldy made his own downfall possible by betraying a loyal servants request to protect his great love. When Snape told his Master of the prophecy and if he then selected Neville, Snape would have just sat by and watched his family destroyed. The only reason Harry was 'Great' was because Voldemort made it so, that was Harry's own belief as well.

I keep thinking this, and I think Harry would've been cocky anyways. But, I can't see it as "Neville Longbottom and the..." , it's just wrong. Neville would've been the hero, and Harry would be the nerd that we would all learn to love. But, in the end, I don't think it would've worked out. I don't think it would've been as good of a series as it was.
