Tonks is a metamorphmagus, she can change her appearance at will. But can she take the form of other people. Does a metamorphmagus have the ability to change himself/herself into another person? How far can this magic go? I don't remember Tonks explaining any of the characters in the book if she could. Can she change her height, her body appearance (muscular, slim...), can she have a male's appearance?

I made this thread to ask what you guys think about this... It has been on my mind lately.

Great questions! I've wondered about that as well. I think depending on the extent of her power that height and weight could be changed. I thought not at first but if she can completely change the structure of her face and hair color I think it's very possible she can change h/w as well. *ponders*

I htink she can i mean she can go from a young woman to an old one with wrinkes and struff so i think she prob could change herself into a man!

Thats i really good question. If she could turn into another person then the theory about her being bad could make sense. I want to ask JK this question now,lol

I agree... I think she can... And that makes me wonder, what is Tonks real apearance ?? I mean does she really look like the Tonks everybody sees or that also a disguise If it is, then, why ??

For some reason I picture her real appearence as very Sirius-like... I think how we hear of her in the books (pink spiky hair) is very much a disguise she uses for whatever reason.

Well we saw once that Tonks appeared to be an old woman, so I'd say the physical changes they can undertake are pretty extensive. They could still tell that it was her though, so they do keep some of their own physical characteristics, but yeah, I'd say they are able to change a great deal.

When I read that, I imagined her face a tad bit wrinkled, but more as if she was dressed as an old woman. I imagined her similar to Mrs. Figg in a shawl.

Great question but I don't know. I think she could change the whole of her appearance but change into a man. I think she could change her h/w and age(well her appearance, wrinkled etc.) Well It doesn't mater what I think only one person really knows for sure and that's JK.

My theory, is yes, she has the potential to completely change her appearance. I believe a metamorphmagus has the capability to morph into another person entirely.

However, I don't think Tonks really has the ability to do that. I believe it would take years of practice for any metamorphmagus to completely master.

being a metamorphmagus...tonks can change her hair color right...and can obviously change the lengths of it because in the 5th book...i dunno whta page it has that she has blonde curly hair...well i was reading the sorceror's stone and this doesnt really have to do w/ tonks but petunia had cut harry's hair...and the next morning it had grown back as it was originally...so when harry asked tonks if he could be taught 2 be a metamorphmagus...and tonks said you had 2 be born with it and it was really rare...what if harry did have some metamorphmagus in him that caused his hair to grow back...wild theory but...

I don't think this is particularly indicative of Harry being a metamorphmagus. It was uncontrolled and subconscious, and neither of Harry's parents were. Considering Lily was muggleborn I think all evidence is against Harry being a metamorphmagus. Given Tonks' discussion with Harry about it and the lack of anything more being brought up about it, I think the books are of the opinion that Harry isn't one. In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if JK Rowling hadn't even thought up metamorphmagi by the time she wrote book one.

It seems to be indicated that they can change their appearance to that of any other human within reasonable limitations. They probably can't change their height by too much, and they can probably only add a certain amount of weight. Other than that, I think the books sort of indicate anything goes.

no, i don't think so, i think that she can just change her appearance just not into somebody else.

A metamorphmagus is a wizard born with the ability to change their shape at will. Only one such character has been introduced, so details about the power are limited. It is known that the ability is extremely rare and comes only to those who are born with it.

Tonks can make small changes, such as altering the length and color of her hair, with only a moment's concentration. She is perfectly capable of more drastic ones, such as making herself appear decades older.

A metamorphmagus presumably cannot take on nonhuman form, but it has yet to be seen if they can copy the appearance of a specific person or opposite gender.

Since Tonks is the only metamorphmagus in the series we can only make guesses based on what we read in the books. Tere is not another character to compare Tonks to which I think makes her character that much more interesting.

Also, Tonks is a half-blood. It seems in the series that the half-bloods have some tremedous talents (Harry, Voldemort, Snape, etc.) Surpassing that of the pure bred wizard by leaps and bounds it seems.

It also seems like emotion can greatly affect Tonk's ability to change her appearance. As seen in HBP when Tonk's was behaving uncharacteristically: she was constantly depressed, rarely smiling or being friendly as she had previously been. Her hair had reverted to a mousy brown, (apparently its natural colour) suggesting that her metamorphosing had been disturbed. Even her Patronus changed some time after the battle from an unknown form to a large, hairy, four-legged creature.

I hope we will learn more about the limits of Tonk's ability in book 7. I would hate it if JK introduced a powerful new ability and didn't use it for anything more significant than nose-changing as dinner entertainment for the Trio.

I think the other posts raised good questions (what is Tonk's real form, is it significant that she may not appear in her natural form, who strong are her powers really, etc). But unless JK tells us we'll never know for sure.

i think she could change into someone else. i wonder what she really looks like, as how she was originaly without changing

I wonder what she reall looks like too. I dont know if she can change into other people or not. But she makes a great Aurar.

tomks can look like anyone anything so she can have purple hair black eyes or blonde hair blue eyes is that to confusing

i guess its possible, i mean when they were at grimmauld place, when she was changin her nose, it mentions she looked like snape, so i guessits possible, but i bet its really difficult seeing as it'll be lots of things your changin not just the one thing.

I think Tonks can take the form of other people. If she doesn't need to have Potions or perform spells to change her appearence (Which she doesn't!) I'm sure that she can take form of another person.
