It doesn't make sense for a muggle family would produce a squib. I can understand a wizarding family producing a squib if their bloodline is so weak, there's hardly any magic left in it, but muggle-borns being squibs... I dunno

Petunia would have got the letter form Hogwarts even if she was a Squib; but since she didn't, she's a Muggle.
And parents have nothign to do with whether or not their kid's magical. Magic isn't like heredity. so...if a person's a Squib, you can't blame their parents. do i make sense??

I think people who are saying that Petunia could be a squib are saying that because if one of Lily's parents was also a squib but chose to live as a muggle then it would be possible for them to have a squib daughter and a witch daughter. With how prejudiced some of the witches/wizards are against muggles and squibs it's possible they don't differentiate between a squib living as a muggle and a true muggle.

I also think that magic is a genetic trait and is therefore passed through the parents by their genes. Perhaps though, in HP world, almost everyone has the magic gene whether it is recessive or dominant.

People don't get snippy about "read the posts" because if you yourself had read all the posts you would already have seen this above argument.

I don't think Petunia is a squib, but I think she is hiding something. She may have discovered she had powers but chose not to use them, for fear of being a hipocrit.

That remember my last...was sent by Dumbledore, but was obviously the words were from Lily. We'll have to see what happens in Book Six. Living with the Dursleys will be interesting, with all that happened in OotP.

Petunia couldn't be a squib because you have to have wizard parents and Lilly and Petunia's parents were muggles but I do think she envied Lilly.
