I don't think so...but mayble :ermsmile: . Filch acts like he hates all magical children and he's a squib and Petunia acts the same. I guess there's a possibility.

Whether she's a squib, or a true witch doesn't much matter to me - but, I think when JKR talks about someone developing magic later on in life at a time of need, it will be Petunia.

Here's what I think. I think she is probably a witch but her level of skill was sooooo low that she slipped under the radar. (Look at Neville, he was pretty incompetent till OoTP).

If the quill at Hogwarts wrote down Harry's name the minute he was born, perhaps it measure's skill level and only writes the person's name when they have a certain skill level.

I think that perhaps the mention that she knew about Dementors was a hint, but I also think that references of her house being so clean are hints. For example, maybe just like Harry could do things like make his hair grow, or his sweater shrink etc. maybe she can make her house clean when she gets upset.

Doesn't Tonk's make some remark about the Dursley's kitchen being unnaturally clean in OoTP?

I think petunia is magical but did not like Hogwarts and/or could not compete with Lilly. There is a lot of jealousy with Petunia towards her sister. Since she could not be as good as Lilly she turned her back on Hogwarts and magic.I think she could not handle the oddity of being in a magical world, she is obsessed with normalitiy and perfect order. So she decided to live a normal life. :sorcerer:

Here's a theory:

What if one of Petunia and Lily's parents is a squib? That might explain why only one of them is a witch. Maybe it skipped a generation like some traits do?! It could happen. I mean it might be why Lily's parents were delighted to find out that she was a witch. Kind of like she is carrying on a tradition that her mother and father (whoever is the squib) couldn't fulfill!

I personally think that's a great theory. It certainly explains why she would treat Harry so bad, because she knows its sort of a status thing to be a wizard vs. muggle so she doesn't want Dudley treated the way she might have been growing up - so she puts Harry down every chance she gets and props Dudley up every chance she gets.

Petunia is a great muggle and nothing will change that!!

But JK made it very clear that Lily was Muggle-born.

I dont know.. I believe Petunia might just be a muggle... but I depict she is hiding something.

She knows about the wizarding world because she has to, in order for her to udnerstand why Harry must stay with them. She is just a normal muggle.

Yeah..THey have this really sick realtionship..But I think there is more to old Petunia than meets the eye..

But she will if she has to - like when she was going to let Vernon throw Harry out onto the street in OoTP until the Howler came from Dumbledore, and then it was Petunia who said "no, he has to stay here" and Vernon listened to her. I think it's mostly the other way around, Vernon does what Petunia wants.

But it wasn't like she had to persuade him, the owl persuaded him not her. If she was to choose, she would choose her husband, say if he threatened to walk out on her.

I don't think he would threaten to walk out on her - I think he relies on her too much and though he tries to put out this tough guy image, he really is nothing without her. I thought she was the one that made the decision about Harry staying - doesn't she walk up the stairs and say something like: "He stays" and Vernon doesn't even question it? He just has a perplexed look on his face.

I think your right. It is totally possible.

Lily and Petunia's mum and dad are muggles Lily is a muggleborn that's why HArry is a half blood too.
