Don't u think Petunia could be a squib and have hidden it from the other Dursleys and Harry the whole time? I mean, she knows about dementors, her parents were magical, her sister was a witch, she got a howler from Dumbledore and understood it, couldn't it be possible?! (Wild idea, I know, but couldn't she be one, maybe!? )

I think it's actually impossible for Petunia to have been a squib since, you have to have a wizards for parents... And Petunia's mum and dad, are muggles...

Here's my theory: Petunia's parents were magical, and since she didn't inherit the same magical qualities, she is now resentful of anything magical. You know how Filch is always after the students because he is jealous that they have magic? I think it's the same thing. Petunia probably had a very hard time dealing with being so different growing up that now she will do anything she can to stay away from it. But that's just what i think.

But... Both Lily's and Petunia's parents were muggles (lily was a muggle-born, remember?), so its not possible for petunia to be a squib!

It is possible though that Petunia went to Hogwarts for a year or so, and didn't like it. And she's trying to hide it from Vernon. It's possible, right.

I agree there, since dumbedore DOES explain the howler. It was about the letter he had tucked into harry's basket as he dropped him off at the dursleys that night.
Remember? in the chapter 'the lost profecy' dumbledore explains it all as harry breaks all dumbledore's things that were in his office!

Isn't it possible for both of Petunia's parents to be squibs? That might make her a squib, right? And that way Lily is still born to non-magic parents. That would make sense too because Petunia says that her parents were extatic upon finding out Lily was a witch. Would normal parents be that excited?

Anyway though, where does it actually say that Lily was born to non-magic parents?

I think Petunia will always "want" to do magic , she was terribly jelouse of Lilly not because her parents where proud but because she never got chosen , but she'll never admit it , Vernon would probably divorce her . I also think Dudley is extremly jelouse of Harry and he wouldn't mind doing magic either .

In COS for instance. Harry said, "my common, muggleborn mother," She is constantly refered to as such. Hey, if I was a parent, I would be totaly thrilled. Imagine letting my kid come back after a full education to do all the household chores.....

I know they can't do magic but then how are they a wizard wouldn't non-magic folks be muggles? Don't know!!!

When I first heard the opinion that Petunia is a squib I liked it a lot - it would explain so much about her character. Besides, it seems that wizards often give flower names to their daughters. (Poppy, Pansy, Lavender, Narcissa)
But then I saw a sentence in Book 2 that proves it to be impossible: If Petunia was a squib, she and Dudley would have magical blood in their veins!
