I don't know how I heard of Harry Potter, but somehow I did and I asked for the first three books at Christmas when I was 8 or something. I didn't even realize I was hooked until the fourth book came out.

I'm a recent HP convert. Until recently, I hadn't read the books or seen any of the movies, and really didn't care to (closed-minded as I was). Back in November, I got the flu and missed two days of school. As I was camped out in the recliner, bemoaning my fate and coughing a lot, my roommate decided she wanted to watch the first movie. I wasn't interested, but she was emphatic: "Just watch it with me, I promise you'll like it!" So, more from not wanting to move out of my soft chair, I conceded and watched it with her. I really got into it! The next day we watched the 2nd one. I'd seen each of those a couple of times before I started reading the books...

It wasn't until about a month ago that I actually sat down and read the books. Some of my students were reading OotP for their English class and I had no idea what they were talking about, so I suppose that was the fire under me that finally got me to sit down and read them. I borrowed Years 1 and 2 from my "big brother" and 3, 4, and 5 from my roomie. I read all five books in 9 days. This was about a month ago, and I've been addicted ever since!

I'm also a recent convert. I have always been a fan of more "serious" fantasy - yes, I'm a Tolkien snob (Books, not movies. The books are SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!) Ahem. Anyway, my roommate had been bugging me to read these books forever, but since she tends to read pre-teen books all the time (and we were in college) I didn't take her very seriously. But right before OotP came out I finally sat down and read the first book ... in a day. I finished the rest within a week and then ran out for the fifth the day it came out. She still gloats about the whole thing.

Some one I knew in 6th grade was reading it and the HP books sounded really interesting. I read the 3rd book first and was so confused about everything that was going on and who the characters were. But on my birthday that year, I got the 1st three books.

My sister.
She read the first 2 books, and one day when we were on holidays in the mountains, we were really bored and she told me I should read them because they were really good. But I said no, then we got into this whole arguement about me reading them, then my sister called mum over, and told her to tell me to read them, and mum, having already read them told me to read them. So I did. Then I absolutely fell in love with them.
The reason I didnt want to read them was because my teacher was reading the 1st book to the class, and at first I thought it would be about a guy who runs away from home and becomes an engineer because of the frount cover (Australian) and the borning way my teacher read it, then as soon as she realized it was fantasy, she stopped reading it.

I'm so very glad I had that fight with my sister.

When I was a sophomore in high school my friend TJ started telling me about these amazing books. He told me about how the first year students crossed the lake in little boats and about the school and all about Harry of course. He told me about Dumbledore and Voldemort and about the magical world. Since I was already hooked on fantasy books (I've been a fan of the Lord of the Rings books for 8 years and the Narnian Chronicles for about 10 years). So I went out that night and bought the first one and read it all that night. After that I just couldn't stop and I've each of them now multiple times! I can't wait for the last two so I can finally see what happens.

The baby brother of one of my friends. I was on a bus for a mission trip and discovered my carry on had been stowed with all the other bags. The Beave (that's what we call him) let me borrow the book. About two seconds after I got home I went and bought all the others and read them. It was a great time!

I was babysitting, and they had the SS/PS movie. I decided to watch it, even tho I didn't think it would be any good. I had to re-watch the beginning a couple of times because every time I would get into it, the baby would get up, lol.
Finally I got the movie done...and loved it.

I went to school, talking about how great it was, and one of my friends was like, well you know its based on a book right? I didn't know, lol.

I was babysitting at a different house, and they had the books!!!

I started to read it, I only got to the 17th page, and I already knew that it was better than the movie, and I knew that I was gonna love it. I went to the liabrary, got the book, and read it.

So, it was the kids that I babysat that got me into the books!!!

Well this is my story....

When I was in First Year, my friend was reading this thick book...then I told him.."What is that...it's thick, what so special about that book anyway?"...well...I'm naive then and what can i do I'm too lazy to read books (...then :whisle: )...

Then when the HPSS came out I was like.."What's That???" (hehe..I'm so naive) and then my cousin told me to watch it just once and give it a chance...

After that...Well let's just say that I'm not naive anymore...and I become an obsessive teenager!

 thanks to my friend and my cousin!!!

My friend Dean introduced me to them when I was nine. He was starting GoF, and I finished the whole series (OotP wasn't released yet) before he finished GoF! Mind you, I am always a fast reader and once I started it, I couldn't get my nose out of it.

:star: hmm... well... when I was still in first year... many of my classmates and close friends were reading the book... I actually didn't think it was interesting... and thought it was just crap [sinc they gave me a so simple description of it which gave me an idea that it was just crap... you know like "what's with magic?!"] and then [I actually saw the film first] one of my close friends was asking me to go with her and watch the movie... well naturally I wasn't interested.. but I still watched it with her... hehe... and then after watching it... I really thought that it was a great movie and had a great plot... my friend was even disappointed... telling me that they cut some parts... after that I just decided to try reading it... beacaus I got all interested and stuff... and now I'm a Harry Potter fanatic... :star:

You know - it's strange - I refused to read Harry Potter in the beginning too. I didn't want to read the books just because everyone else was reading it - there were other books I was enjoying reading then. But then one day my aunt bought me book 2, so I read it. I loved it so much that I went out and bought books one and three. Book 3 is my favorite so far, book 5 comes second, in parts. What I like best about the books is the description of the wizarding world - so many interesting, totally delicious details and the way the whole thing hangs together.... I always end up wishing I was a part of it. But I guess I get by by somewhat pretending I'm Harry or something - after all, the story's from his point of view, and when reading the book, one usually goes through the same emotional states as he does.

it wasn't untill 2001 when PS movie came out that i loved the film & that had encouraged me to read all the books- and i am in love with them! (not in that way!)

since then i proudly brought OOTP and i am an avid HP reader!!
