My uncle bought me the first four books when I was seven years old! I don't think I actually read any of them until I was eight, but the rest is history.

I had them sitting on the shelf for a long time, like a year or more. I'd been buying them gradually when I'd see them at yard sales or thrift stores. I didn't expect to love them anywhere near as much as I do. Then, in February, I was working on a feature film and I decided to start Sorcerer's Stone in the downtime between setups. I enjoyed the books, but I didn't really get hooked until The Half-Blood Prince. And then, well, the Snape/Lily story was my undoing. Gah!!!! Loved it!

My mom started reading the books because her friends were boycotting them since they didn't like the fact the books had witchcraft. So my mom read them to see what her friends were talking about, and then kept reading, and decided even though she doesn't agree with witchcraft, she loved the books. Then she bought them for me to read.

I was fortunate enough to be 12 when the first book was released in the US, and was able to grow up with the characters as the books were released.

I cant remember a specific person recommending them, it was just suddenly something everyone was reading at once.

Nobody really introduced me to the books. At the age of 12 I watched Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets on my own and loved them. So that led me to getting those two books out of the library.
