I dunno if this fits in here, I just have to ask the question. Now, I have to admit, maybe this is something that I havent noticed, or maybe I just haven't read the books so thorougly, but where did madam Hooch go? As far as I can remeber, I haven't seen (read) anything about her since, what, the first book?

Is there something i skipped?

But onto Madame Hooch...as best I can tell she's still teaching first years how to fly their brooms, and since there are always new first years...she's just not going to be a major character in the series, which just goes to show you Hogwarts is really a bigger school than we think and there are likely more teachers than we know...

They discussed this on Mugglecast. Madame Hooch, as far as I can tell, teaches first years to fly, referees Quidditch games, and sometimes oversees practices.

i agree i think the last was in the first book!! but i dont really no wat happened to her.

There have been slight mentions of her overseeing matches and practices but other than that she spends most of her time with the first years. She hasn't dissapeared. It's just there are no classes with her and thus, she is never mentioned.

mmm - now that you mention it I don't remember reading about her either. I guess she justs teaches the first years and referee's the games. That sounds like an easy job, LOL...

Really, who cares where she is? She isn't that interresting a character! Why don't you ask where that brasilian boa for the 1st book is? What happened to him? Did he make it to Brasil? For that, i am worried, for Hooch not so much... She can always make a huge come back in book 7 and be the heroine of the day but i wouldn't count on it...sorry.

I like the way Madam Hootch teaches the first years how to fly on their broomsticks in book one, I also like how she raves about the firebolt against the silver arrow the one she was trained on.

She's not really a huge part of the story, i think she just teaches the first years to fly fr one year and then they drop it, and thats it. She doesn't really need to be in the books that much. She's just the person who referees (sp?) the quidditch matches.

Yes that is what I always thought. She teachs first years to fly and referees Quidditich. I'm not sure she's meant to be a major character.

no, she was in the Order of the Phoenix, she was yelling at Crabbe for hitting the bludger at Harry after he had caught the snitch. That was when Malfoy made fun of Mrs. Weasley, and the twins and harry got tossed from the Quiddich team.

Madam Hooch served her purpose in the first book already. This was to teach Harry and his classmates how to fly. Since she isn't a major role and had already done what JK Rowling needed her to do, she is no longer seen in great amounts in the book and is occasionally mentioned in Quidditch and stuff.

We don't actually know that this is true since we're never shown a timetable or given a full list of subjects that they have. Hermione tells Ron and Harry that they've got to keep all their old subjects when they choose new ones in Chamber. Since Hermione hates flying and you can't learn how from a book, I doubt that she considers flying lessons a subject at all and they are dropped at the end of the second year to make room for the new subjects. So possibly Madam Hooch teaches the first and second years how to fly. We only ever get to see one flying lesson, in which she doesn't actually get to teach them very much, but I reckon she must be a good teacher to still be knocking around Hogwarts.

Madam Hooch teaches first years to fly broomsticks. So of course she wouldn't be seen after the first book, except when she referees Quidditch games. You see glimpses of her in the subsequent books, but not as a major character. She isn't essential for the books to progress, which is why we don't see much of her.

I very much doubt that she has completely dissappeared, she just doesn't need to be invlolved that much. She probaly is just teaching first years.

She was in books 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6. She wasn't in 4 because there wasn't any quiddich and she wasn't in 7 because the trio wasn't at hogwarts. Although she may have participated in the battle, I can't remember for sure though.

You only really hear about her teaching flying lessons and refereeing Quidditch so she's not really that important...
