Absolutely. In terms of fantasy fiction, she is on top of my list, along with J.R.R. Tolkien, and Frank Herbert, who wrote the Dune Books.

Yes, I have! It's amazing what she does with those kids.

I never really had a favorite author until I read the HP series, but ever since I finally decided to borrow the series from my friend just to see what the big deal was, I've been hooked. Jo Rowling is an absolute genius! Especially the way she can write fantasy in such a way that some people actually think it's real, like my sister (but really, Sis, when's the last time you met a centaur? ). BTW, my sister refuses to read the books; her preacher told her what's in them, and that's enough for her. *rolls eyes* What-EVER.

When I borrowed my friend's books, I read them deliberately looking for all the Wiccan and Satanic stuff everyone said was in them. Then I asked for (and got) my own set for Christmas, and re-read them. No religion of any kind mentioned anywhere, other than an occasional "Thank God!" or somesuch.

Now if only I could get my sister to listen to me. (She hasn't once in almost 35 years; why should she start now?)

You know, she really isn't one of my faveorites. She is excellent, yes, and a wonderful role model and such, but the I have many authors I favor a bit more. JK's writing has just gotten to be what I like to read. The rest of them, I've found, to be a bit... for younger children.

I honestly love Philip Pullman more. And I love Caroline B. Cooney and Sharon Creech. Yes, I love JKR and such, she just isn't that Top Fave, but yes, one of my faveorites.

Of course JK is my favourite author. Who can top her? She's in her own league. Hardly anyone has come even close to touching. When she finishes all of the HP books, I'll bet that they'll still be remembered. They're unforgettable.

J.K is my favorite! I love the Harry Potter series, the only thing that I personally believe comes second would have to be the Lord of the Rings series, I love those as well, but nothing beats Harry Potter in my mind.

I would have to say that yes, J.K. Rowling would be my favorite author, if only because I love the style with which she writes. There's always comedy in the books, and she just knows how to make things seem real, even when she's talking about dragons and dementors and other such mythical beasts as well as when a character is feeling upset or angry or happy or something. Of course, the only things I've read have been the Harry Potter (serial; not the schoolbooks) books, and there's really nothing else that we can go by, but I love them so I think she's great. The ironic thing about me is that all the authors that I seem to really like are female, and they all are writing about young male protagonists... that's just my opinions...

I would have to say right now she is my favorite author. I love her style of writing and the details she adds, not to mention the amount of research! Her sense of humor is amazing and her use of language, or play on words is wonderful. There aren't many books I would want to read over and over again, but I have never tired of reading these. I've actually lost count! I don't want the HP series to end, but at the same time l definitely would like to read something else from her, just to see if the 'magic' continues!:sorcerer:

HeHe...I know what you mean. I finally got my twin sister to read them.... and she ended up reading all 5 in less than 2 weeks. Of course, she couldn't 'fully' admit how much she liked them to me, but I bet she has read her son's copies since then.

Well she was until she killed sirius. Now she is a lot lower on my list. Don't get me wrong, she's still good, just she's lost my trust, that's all. I don't trust her anymore. Not after what she did. I do not care if there was a reason she did it, because she still did it. She must have hated him. She had to, or else she wouldn't be able to kill him off. I am a writer, so I know. There has to be a flaw so large in the character that you wouldn't care if they died. And look what she did to Harry; she didn't make a single thing better, she only made everything WORSE!!! So, yeah. She is low on my list, but she's still there.

Isn't that just a little bit of a silly reason to put her lower on your list? No offence but just because she killed off a character that is probably nessecary to the story you drop her? I write too, and you don't always have to hate a character to kill them off, some times it's just needed. Anyway..

She's definately my number 1!

Let's just say she's one of many. I like:

- Robin Hobb (if I had to name only one it'd be her, I think)
- Philip Pullman (he's sooo great!)
- J.R.R. Tolkien (you all know what I'm talking about)
- Roald Dahl
- Diana Wynne Jones
- Terry Pratchett
- I think there's some very interesting new writers like Darren Shan, Jonathan Stroud, Garth Nix and Marcus Sedgwick (I really loved his book The Dark Horse)
- Anne Rice (especially Interview with the Vampire)
- Nordic crime stories, authors like Karin Fossum and Henning Mankell
- many classics like Franz Kafka, Mary Shelley, Robert Louis Stevenson and so on
- Mika Waltari (internationally known finnish author, classic)
- Ilkka Remes (if he allowed his books to be translated he'd become world famous, he's so much better than Jack Higgins, Robert Ludlum, Ken Follet, Dan Brown and other authors like that)
- Donald E. Westlake's books are cool, especially those with Dortmunder in them
- Maarit Verronen is my fave contemporary author in Finland at the moment

But there's so many books and authors I should've mentioned here...

JKR is one of my favorite authors, but I like J.R.R. Tolkien too. My dad is by far my favorite though (James S. Cook). Coming out with a book entitled "The Senator's Nemesis" within the next couple of years.
