As you can guess by the title I was wondering if anyone would support a Extended Universe of the Harry Potter books? I mean their where several authors who worked on all the EU Star Wars books qand they keep the history and characters while anding new characters and expanding the Universe. They did it so well that you can jump books and still know whats going on because the books follow all the events and details before it. But who would do it and can they keep the Spirit of the series, while still expanding the Universe and continue the story after J.K. won't. Because I don't know about you but if everyone in the trio and Ginny survives I want to see if they have kids, what they do for a living and all the other good stuff. So their is the question. If J.K. won't continue the books can another author be trusted to keep them going and would J.K. let anyone? Tell me what you think.

As much as I love Harry Potter, I don't think I'd like it if anyone other than JK wrote it. It just wouldn't be the same.

If I were JKR, I would not allow it. It would be too easy to lose control and corrupt the series.

I'm not sure... I'm not very familar with the Star Wars series. I think a BIG part of the apeal of the HP series is that JKR has awesome story lines with few plot holes.

I think it could work better for a prequel to the series. I really would enjoy some stories about James and Lily's days at Hogwarts before Harry was born. Stories about the maurdeers' days at Hogwarts would be AWESOME!

It just wouldn't be the same at all!!!!!! There is no expanding of the universe of HP for a reason, whether we know it or not, and it's great to use your imagination to create the "expanded version" lol

I'd love an expanded universe, BUT only if Jo wrote the books. I know she's said she wouldn't write anymore about Harry and the gang but it would be cool if she wrote books about Sirius and the gang when they were in school, or even about other characters and set in the same universe ... but not with someone other than her writing, at that point ... well it becomes lame. Look at the movies ... that's someone else writing ... and the first ones were with her supervision ... *sighs* so no. Only Jo for me, but I'd love to read about the adventures of the centaurs or Luna's life, or what Harry,Ron, & Hermione did over their summers ... but only if Jo wrote it.

I think that kind of writing (if not done by JK) should stay within the realms of FanFiciton. I think Jo is right in her decision not to write nemore Harry Potters than the 7...u have to know when to let a series die out (not that i think the potter series will ever leave us...look at how popular star wars is...and tats not including the EU writings) JK always intended for there to be 7 books, and when you start stretching it out, usually the series takes a turn for the worse.

While I see youre point. What most people don't know is that even though "He" is not writing them himself. George Lucas is a major supporter and co-writer offf each book. He helps the authors stay true to the feel and roots of the star wars universe. So how can alot of people not see the benifit of experienced author carrying on the universe. And if they don't continue the Harry Potter line of the universe. Them maybe a set of books before or after Harry's time? While yes if you just keep beating a dead horse you can ruin a great think(For Example: The gundam series, Final Fantasy) But thier is so much about the potter universe. That we still don't know about. So if I can't have more stories. I would so buy every indepth universe book. for the Harry Potter universe. Why? Not because iam obessed (Okay maybe a little XD ) But because the world is so deep and detailed that I think it would be a waste not to explore it's greater mysteries.

I think it's good that the story has a beginning, a middle and an end-- hopefully a well written end to the arc.

To continue it endlessly ...well, the quality would falter over time, even if it was wonderful it'd become a factory of books.

But I wouldn't necssarily be opposed to companion books that exist in that world, featuring different character lines... if JKR was doing them so they would be canon.

She has said that she is done with the wizarding world, and she will not allow anyone else to write about Harry. I feel like she left open to come back to Harry one day, but after all these years of writing about him she feels it is complete. I do not know if she will grant someone else the right to write about him, but as of now she will not allow anyone else to write about Harry, while she is living or after she is dead. Not sure if it will be as good if someone else wrote about Harry, she knows him better then anyone as she created him.

I think it could work IF the author worked closely with Jo to capture her voice. I personally think Jo should be working on companion books; I'd love to know more about the Crouches or Regulus Black. HOW did ol Reg figger the whole Horcrux thing before Dumbledore, you know? I'd be open to it

Hm...I don't think I like this idea. It just wouldn't be the same if anybody other than J.K. Rowling wrote the books. And we can glean all this information if we only look around the web. Or, better yet, we can use our imaginations to tell us what Harry and Co. are doing now. And how their children turn out. We can write fanfics about it, and that'll be the way to keep the series alive.

I think she's definitly done with stories about Harry, but after a while a book about other characters in the wizarding world would be great. A book about the Mauraders and the people at hogwarts during their time would be great. Also completely new characters in the past or future would be cool too of course. But only if it was written by JKR since she was the one to create everything in the series in the first place.

No way. Books like that would be nothing more than fanfic. No offense to those that write it, but I don't consider it 'real' If it's not by JK, it doesnt count

That would be awesome! But I just hope that it's J.K. Rowling who's writing them not other authors.

I honestly don't think it would be the same without J.K.Rowling writing them. But if she stops, I'm not giving up hope that she's going to bring out another book, then I might consider changing my mind. If that meant that Harry Potter would continue.

Well i would like to know about the trio more. I still want JK to stop being difficult and just make children happy by giving us proper details of what really happened to everyone after the war. I, like so many others, Want her to produce another book telling us about their lives after the war.

Movies are inherently a communal effort while books, well, usually aren't. It would be a switch, but one I can see the world of HP transitioning well to.

To be brutally, brutally honest, Rowling's strength lies in worldbuilding. Neither Lucas nor Rowling are the best writers ever. (Sorry - as much as I love HP, I have to admit that the books are not technically the most elaborate, intricate, graceful and beautiful writing I've seen.) But this world could be exploited by others of different talents, perhaps through different media. I'd love to see a graphic novel series set in this universe, after all.
