Cho Chang So, before I had the time to read Goblet of Fire, I had seen many people bashing this character Cho Chang. And there are plenty of Hate-listings and such about her. My question, I guess, if anyone will help me out, is why do people hate her so much? I had assumed she was a total jerk or something and that I would hate her, too. Then I read the book, always waiting for her to do something mean, and I didn't think she was a bad character at all. am I missing something, or are people just overly protective of young Harry? |
Alot of people don't like her character in OotP. I don't know if you've read it yet though, so I won't say anything about it. |
yup..it's all because of OotP..you should read it soon..grrr..hate her! |
I've read OoTP and I still dont hate her. You have to understand what she's going through. I mean, hello!, her boyfriend suddenly died and she has no idea how it happened. Also, that fact that she was very confused during the 5th book. She obviously had feelings for Harry, but at the same time, she felt guilty because she might have felt that she was betraying Cedric, who is dead. And to add on to that guilt and confusion, Harry was the only one who saw Cedric die. Just imagine it, you start to fancy the guy who was basically the last one to interact with your dead boyfriend. Of course you would have all the emotions. And you've got to admit, Harry acted a bit tactless at times. He really needs more experience when it comes to girls. And yea, Cho did some things wrong too. They both need some growing up to do. I'm not saying that they should get back together, but they need to settle their unfinished business. |
well i think that cho might be using harry to just get over her sadness for cedric..as she`s always talking about him..like during valentines day..aww..that wasn`t a good day for harry at all..all the couples were soo intimate while cho and he were soooo .....u know..!!.i think cho is using harry!!.. |

I think the main reason in hating cho chang was because she did'nt care about harry that much in the 4th book when he fancies her because she is happy with cedric diggory. But when cedric dies in the fifth book, she wanted to fill the black hole in her life and became closer to harry wantedly.Everyone must consider the fact that Harry never tried to talk to her(though he fancied her since end of the third year). It is CHO herself coming and talking to him always in the fifth book. I personally did'nt like her attitude when harry and herself go to a coffee shop on valentine's day.I mean you can't like a person without knowing about him.is'nt it?Instead she tried to make harry jealous of her. Anyway,folks.....i don't hate Cho chang, but i think hermione is much much more sensible than her in some ways. But do you think Cho and harry can ever make it up once again? |

^im with you .i hate her. |
I stongly dislike Cho. She seems really insecure. And she's a drama queen, and she overplays almost everything. I don't think shes that incredibly smart either. Quote:

i don't get why people hate cho. i mean, so what she didn't want to date harry! |
its just bc she used harry in OOTF |
I dun hate her i dun think it was her fault she's going through an emotional time in her life |
To answer your question - all the Cho hating began after the fifth book. All of Harrys' fans are up in arms because she had the audacity to (gasp) go out with him and (the horror) not like him too much afterward! I don't hate her at all, and I actually find it a bit annoying that people are bashing her. She just lost her boyfriend, she's trying to move on and she probably thought, Hey... I liked Harry a little before Cedric, why not give it a go with him? Things didn't work out and that's that. Relationships don't always work out, especially first ones and Harry will find someone else. It wasn't her intention to use or mess with him. She's not overly emotional, as a lot of people are saying. What she's been through is really scaring, and I think she has every reason to cry. If she's still doing it in five years - than it's like, yeah... time to get over it - but for now, it's been less than a year and I think she has a legit reason to be sad. |

I don't think she used Harry at all, I think she is confused and highly emotional and wants to be close to Harry because she wants to learn the truth about Cedric's death. Granted, she cares for Harry too, but she is more confused than anything else. |
^AGREED! I most certianly don't hate her, and I detest those Cho-bashers. Actually though, there was a lot of Cho-bashing, even before the Fifth book because Harry crushed on Cho. Oh NO! Our belove god HARRY POTTER has a crush on SOMEONE! He thinks she's pretty! I HATE HER!!!! As to her trying to make Harry jealous, well, wouldn't you? Like Hermione said, if YOU were on a date, and your date started talking about another girl, wouldn't YOU try to impress him with your other guy as well? We see everything from Harry's point of view, have you ever tried seeing it from someone else's? And for Gods sake, she lost her boyfriend. He was murdered. I should think that would make anyone weepy, losing a person you cared for in that way. And in the GoF when Harry asked her out, it's not like she acted smug after turning him down. She was seriously unhappy to have to do it, and she didn't string Harry along. She wasn't after him for his fame either! Give Cho Chang a break. Because if you don't, I'll give YOU a break. Somewhere. Literally. |
I dont like Cho, because she is too emotional. She should understand that it is even worse for because he witnessed Cedric's death. And can somebody explain why did she have to bring the topic of Cedric dying while Harry was on his FIRST FREAKING DATE? I find her too emotional and too suspicious. She thinks that Harry fancies Hermione. And she thinks very high of herself in my opinion. And she changes her mind fast. She doesn't even give a thought what she says! |
hmp I don't like her she love attention. ANd she never thinks what to do next and see if its good or not.. |
^ I agree! |

Also, Cho brought up the topic on the first date because she didn't realize Harry didn't have feelings for Hermione. I don't know about you, but there have been times when I've dragged old boyfriends into the conversation to make my current boyfriend feel guilty for talking about an ex of his. It's almost natural instinct. Plus, the emotions she was feeilng for Cedric are probably still very close to the surface for her, and she couldn't help bringing it up. People say it helps to talk about people you love who have died, and I think that's what Cho was trying to do. I don't think it was her intention to use Harry. |
^ I agree. I don't think she's too emotional, I just think she's going through something really hard in her life right now and she doesn't know how to express her feelings. She uses Harry as a way of drowning out her sorrow, probably believing that Harry would be just as hurt as she was. |
I feel sorry for Cho for what she is going through, and I don't think it is right to hate her for anything, but the one thing that really gets to me about her is that she defended Marietta, despite that the girl would've had them all expelled--including Cho--to save her own treacherous skin. They weren't even in any danger of being found out and Marietta had to go and betray her best friend and about 20 other students like that! And after all that, Cho sticks up for Marietta. Like they say--"you are judged by the company you keep". Don't bash me for being annoyed with Cho about that, again I'm not saying I hate her, or think her worthless, or anything of the sort--I'm just irritated with Cho for that one part. Generally though I think she's a nice girl and it might have worked out if both she and Harry had learned to be more tactful... |

Ok guys..I am not saying that I hate Cho but I don't like her either. Apart from the way she acted...don't you think that you r kind of forgetting that sneak Marietta, the reason Dumbledore wasn't there in the school so that Harry could go to him and tell him wat he saw in his dream...and Sirius might still be alive!!! Not only that, Mcgonagal would never have to be in St. Mungoes because then Dumbledore would have gone out there and all those people with Umbridge would be zapped. And think about it Marietta sold all of them out...including Cho and Cho was still being friendly to her. She fought with Harry because of that girl. So I think that Cho isn't worth liking but you guys can suit yourselves. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...e/ChoChang.png |
