Fan Fiction Administrator's note to the reader:

Dear reader, forgive us for tempting you and not delivering. This fic is unfinished and will remain so. We're keeping it here though, so that we can hold on to our dear friend Jacqui a while longer.

Jacqui was in a fatal car accident in February 2008. She'd been a member of SnitchSeeker.com for 2 1/2 years, and she has made many friends in that time. Those of us who knew her will miss her greatly. We send our prayers and thoughts to her close friends and family, and here in our little corner of the Potter Fandom, we offer up this bit of story she created for us, her friends. Enjoy.

This FF takes off right after the 7th book ends, but from (of course) Albus' point of view. Suggestions are very welcome and I hope you all enjoy the story!

The eleven-year old looked at his friend of the same age, and couldn’t help but let out a great sigh of relief. He grinned and, his hands flying through the air, said, “We’re finally going!”

His friend grinned too, obviously as glad as him. “I know! Where should we sit?” She said, her red hair swinging wildly.

The boy hesitated for not even a moment, and then answered, “Let’s find an empty compartment, or one that’s only got a few first-years in it.”

His companion nodded and the two kids walked off together, peering through the windows of each compartment for a place to sit. It wasn’t long before they found one, although it had one young boy in it already.

“Er… hey,” the boy said, pulling open the door. “I’m Albus, mind if we sit here?”

“Make yourself at home,” the stranger said. “I’m Matthew, but you can call me Matt.”

“I’m Rose,” Albus’ friend said as she and Al sat down opposite Matt. “A pleasure to meet you.”

“So are you two first-years?” Matt asked, receiving two nods in reply. “Cool, so am I. You guys excited?”

“Yeah, but my brother has been telling me about all these things that don’t sound too pleasant,” Albus answered. “What house do you think you’ll be in?”

“Dunno,” Matt answered with a shrug. “I don’t really care that much.”

“D- Don’t really c- care?” Albus repeated, not believing it.

“Al is really stressed about it. He doesn’t want to be in Slytherin,” Rose explained. “I myself think I’ll be in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw.”

“What’s wrong with Slytherin?” Matt asked, frowning. “Aren’t all houses good? That’s what my Dad tells me.”

“Well, my Dad tells me it’s alright if I’m sorted into Slytherin because the bravest man he knew was in that,” Albus said, but uncertain. “I don’t know, though. I mean, Salazar Slytherin wasn’t the nicest bloke, was he?”

“He couldn’t have been that bad, though,” Matt replied, trying to reason with Albus.

“He built a secret chamber in the school where the heir of Slytherin would command a basilisk to kill students!” Al protested.

“Oh, come on, you can’t really believe that. It’s just a myth,” Matt said.

“Don’t believe it? My Dad killed the basilisk in his second year with Godric Gryffindor’s sword!”

Matt snorted and then laughed. “Tell me you’re pulling my leg,” He said.

“Er… Matt, Albus isn’t lying,” Rose spoke up. “His surname is Potter. His Dad is…”

“Potter?” Matt coughed out, his eyes widening. “Your Dad is Harry Potter? The Harry Potter?”

Albus nodded and said, “Haven’t you ever heard of me? I’m Albus Severus Potter.”

Okies, here's the next part:

It was a fairly long train ride, but soon enough they arrived at Hogsmeade Station. Al, Rose and Matt got off the train, a little unsure on where to go. But soon enough a loud booming voice carried throughout the crowd, “First years: over here, come on!”

The three kids looked up to see a large figure towering over everyone, who Rose and Albus knew to be Hagrid. They eagerly started to hurry over, but an older boy blocked their way. “Hey Al, watch out for those monsters in the lake. Bit tricky, they are,” He said, grinning.

“M- Monsters?” Albus stuttered, now afraid.

“James, go away. I bet there are no monsters at all,” Rose said, her voice firm.

“Right, so when my Dad was in his fourth year, he just jumped in the lake he swam through that clear water right to the hostages and rescued them, no merpeople or grindylows,” James said. “You know, he’s lucky that he didn’t get into trouble with the giant squid.” With that, he smirked and walked away.

“You know, he’s right. Dad did do that in one of the tasks for the Triwizard Tournament,” Albus said to Rose.

“Don’t worry, Al, it’s not like we’ll be swimming through the lake,” Rose said, reassuringly.

“I guess,” Albus muttered, still unsure and afraid about the matter.

“So, wait, was that your brother?” Matt asked Albus, gaping. “How many of you guys are there?”

“Er… yeah, that was my brother,” Al answered. “What do you mean: ‘How many of you guys are there?’? I have quite a few siblings, if that’s what you mean.”

“I still don’t think he can get over the fact that he has met a Potter,” Rose mumbled to Albus. Al nodded and the two friends shared a look, but it was soon broken by a large figure that towered over them.

“Hey Al, Rose. How are ya goin’?” Hagrid said, smiling down at them.

“We’re well, thanks. You?” Al replied, beaming.

“You know him?” Matt spluttered with incredibility.

“And who might you be?” Hagrid said brightly, obviously not recognizing the insult.

“Matthew, sir.”

“Sir?” Hagrid laughed. “There aint any reason to call me that, son.”

Rose and Al laughed, but Matt didn’t see what was so funny.

“This way, first years!” Hagrid called out to the crowd that had formed around him. He led them away from the station and to a lake that stretched out like a huge mirror reflecting the rays of the moon. In the distance, Albus could see a grand castle, illuminated against the dark sky. “Okay, get into threes or fours, pick a boat, then follow me!” Hagrid shouted, and then got into his own boat.

Once they reached the castle, they were overwhelmed with thoughts of marvel and wonder. They were soon broken from this trance of awe, however, because Hagrid continued to talk. “Right, follow me everyone,” He yelled, then led the group up to the castle.

Thanks guys, I love all these comments.

However, I'm sorry to say that I'll be going on a vacation starting tomorrow.

“Hey Al, look, there’s Scorpio,” Rose said quietly, nudging Albus and nodding her head towards a group of boys, one with sleek blonde hair.

“I hope you listen to your Dad and don’t marry him,” Albus joked. The two friends laughed, but Matt was too busy staring up at the castle to hear them.

Albus, noticing this, said to Matt, “Hey, haven’t your parents or siblings described that castle so much that you’re kind of over it once you’ve seen it?”

“What?” Matt said, looking around. “Er… No, I’m an only child and my parents didn’t go to Hogwarts.”

“Are you serious?” Rose said, staring at Matt.

“Yeah, Dad went to Durmstrang and Mum’s a muggle,” Matt answered.

“Hey cool – that means all three of us are half-bloods,” Albus said.

“Why does that matter?” Rose asked pointedly.

“It doesn’t,” Albus replied defensively. “I was just commenting on…”

However, he couldn’t say anymore because Hagrid had led them inside the castle and they were at once confronted with the magnificent beauty of the Entrance Hall. “Wow,” Albus uttered, staring up at the features of the hall, but then was reminded of something. “Speaking of wow… Hey, Hagrid!”

Hagrid turned and looked at Albus. “Yes?”

“Is there a ceiling in the Great Hall?” He asked, wanting to know the real answer after all the things James had told him.

“Er… yeah, but it’s all enchanted so if ya look at it, it looks like the sky. It’s pretty fancy stuff,” Hagrid replied, then spoke louder so everyone could hear. “Right, I’m gonna leave ya all now and Professor Runwick will be here soon.” He walked down a nearby corridor and everyone at once fell into chatter about The Sorting Ceremony.

“So, Al, apart from Gryffindor where do you think you might go?” Rose asked.

“Um, maybe Hufflepuff. I mean, I can be loyal and hard working, can’t I?” Albus replied.

Rose snorted. “Loyal, yes. Hard working, definite no. Sorry Al,” She said, laughing.

Albus narrowed his eyes at Rose, trying to give her a threatening look, but not succeeding. Suddenly, he thought of something. “But… what if I’m not in Gryffindor? Then that only leaves Slytherin, because there’s no way I could get into Ravenclaw if your Mum didn’t get in.”

“I still don’t see why Slytherin is so bad,” Matt said to Albus, entering the conversation. “I mean, if the bravest man your Dad knew was in Slytherin, then it couldn’t be bad.”

“Look, after at least a week of school, you’ll understand why, so I’m not going to try to explain,” Albus answered, trying to keep back the series of swear words that would flow from his mouth if he tried to describe the Slytherins.

At that moment, a tall, strict-looking man entered the room and started talking. However, Albus was lost in his thoughts about the conversation he was just in, so he didn’t hear a word the old man said. Soon enough though, everyone started to move and two lines had formed. Albus glanced beside him and saw Rose, and Matt was in front of her with another boy. “Follow me,” The man said, his voice gruff. It was at that moment that they entered the Great Hall.

When they walked through the oak doors, they were immediately greeted by what seemed to be millions of students, majestic decorations, and a long table of the staff. It was marvelous. It was remarkable. It was extraordinary. It was astonishing. It was unbelievable. It was amazing. It was incredible. It was simply absurd.

Albus stared at all the decorations from the ceiling that was enchanted to look like the sky to the newly polished floor. There were no adjectives to fully describe the feelings he was experiencing.

They soon came to a stop towards the end of the hall. In front of them was a stool and the Sorting Hat. Albus was quite surprised at the condition the hat was in. He expected beautiful and slender maroon hat with golden trimmings, but the hat before him was black and shabby with loose threads and ripped patches here and there.

“When I call your name, please come forward and sit on the stool. You shall wear the hat and it will call out the house you belong to. Please sit at that table.”

The man that had led them into the Great Hall had spoken again. He was standing next to the hat with a scroll in his hands. “Adett, Cassandra,” He said and a small girl with short blonde hair approached him. He lifted the hat from the stool and Cassandra sat down.

Once the hat was put on her head, it called out, “Hufflepuff!” There was a cheer from one particular table and the girl sat down there.

“Anderson, Robert,” The man said. The boy next to Matt walked up to the stool and sat down.

“Ravenclaw!” The hat shouted and Robert hurried over to the table that had cheered that time. The celebration continued smoothly, until Albus saw Scorpio sit on the stool. When the hat landed on his head, it began to call out a house, “Slyth-” However, it stopped and said, “Interesting… I see much of a Gryffindor personality in you, but there is also much of Slytherin in you. As many see these two houses opposite, this is very interesting indeed. I think… Yes, I shall put you in-”

“Wait!” Scorpio cried. “Don’t put me in Gryffindor, please! I don’t belong there!”

There was a pause, and then the hat exclaimed, “Slytherin!”

It wasn’t long before Albus’ name was called out. He gulped and shakily pushed through the small crowd of students. He walked carefully up the steps, dreadfully aware that the whole school was watching him. He sat down on the stool and he barely felt the hat touch his head when it called out, “Gryffindor!”

Albus was so happy that he could hardly breathe. He threw the hat off and stumbled down the steps to the Gryffindor table. He grinned and let out a sigh of relief.

After a few more people, the man with the scroll shouted, “Stratchey, Matthew!”

Matt walked up to the stool and sat down and once the hat was put onto his head it immediately seemed to be in great thought. “Let’s see… I see quite a bit of Slytherin, a good amount of Hufflepuff, quite a bit of Gryffindor, much Ravenclaw indeed… However, you can only be in one house: Hufflepuff!”

Matt seemed content with the answer and he walked over to the Hufflepuff table, although Al knew that Matt would have preferred a house where he had a friend.

Soon after, it was time for Rose to be sorted. She was the second last person, so Al felt quite sorry for her. “Hmmmm… Gryffindor!” The hat yelled out.

Once Rose had joined him and the last person was sorted, the feast had begun.
