Clucky was a plucky hen and the dearly beloved pet of Seamus Finnigan. But, getting along in age, the poor thing couldn't see well. Now, Clucky was sitting on the wood fence watching the day go by when he noticed Seamus and Dean standing around chatting with Money-in-your-pocket. When suddenly out of nowhere it seemed a hippogryph had appeared and it was swooping down on the boys, Clucky could imagine it's evil claws of doom rending her beloved boy and his mate to pieces of unsavory flesh.

Of course, with Clucky's age had come bad vision and ineed it was only an owl. But quite heroically Clucky plucked up her courage and ran at the boys waving her wings and trying to fly in a vain attempt to get between the boys and the owl.

"Mad chicken!" Dean yelled and ran.

Seamus grabbed the reins of Money-in-your-pocket as the horse reared and they watched in horror as poor Clucky ran slamming into a tree. Seconds later the owl arrived and Seamus seeing his name and that of his mate who was running back to the house accepted the owl post graciously from the owl.

"I haven't got any birdseed or I'd tip you," Seamus said but the owl McAffee was his name, was happy simply to have done his job and besides he circled around later and got Seamus on the shoulder with his droppings.

"What's this now?" Seamus asked opening the letter.

You two have a new assignment. The world is in peril, I'm depending on you. Bring donuts. We will meet in all the old familiar places ... come armed.

Seamus didn't know what to make of it and at the moment he had Dean to deal with. The poor boy was a city kid and he thought all animals except cats and dogs were wild.

"C'mon Money," the boy said and steered his horse back to the house. Together they could get to the bottom of this letter though it reeked of something Ottery would do.

Octavius Black was the son of Regulus Black. Suffice it to say, the boy had grown up without a father and his mother was absent for most of his childhood leaving the boy in the care of kindly neighbors, in their place however Octavius had grown up with resentment and hatred.

Though no one spoke of He-who-must-not-be-named Octavius found it easy to find out the history. Everyone was only too willing to discuss it in veiled tones behind half open doors with lots of furtive glances and phrases filled with pity and thinly veiled contempt.

So, Octavius Black decided to avenge his father, having nothing to go on about his father Regulus, except the occasional reminiscent mumblings of his mother who painted him as a hero, the boy decided to fill in the history and along with the phrase his mother always used, "Regulus fought against the Dark Lord, no one ever remembers that and few people know it, if any but, your father defied him ..."

And now in the present Octavius and his best mate Bradley Maize were forming a group amongst their peers, who wanted like the Dark Lord to come to power by any means necessary but, with the added agenda of destroying the Death Eaters they saw as posing a threat.

Chapter: I’ve been dreaming ‘bout you

“I don’t know, except for hating Harry he’s never seemed that bad to me,” Ginny remarked to her friends revelation that she had run into Draco Malfoy in Paris.

Luna Lovegood turned to look at her friend as they walked down the street. She stopped suddenly and said. “Oh,” Ginny turned around to look at her. “This is this one of those jokes you’re always telling me, Ginny. I don‘t always get them until you explain them but, they are quite … adorable.”

Ginny laughed. Luna knew she was not being laughed at so she just smiled.

The Ravenclaw turned to stare at the shops around her. The town of Ottery St. Catchpole was not a big thriving metropolis like London or Paris, it was more of a comfortable little village but it was home. And with friends like the Weasleys so close by it was a wonderful home.

“So, why exactly are we here?” Ginny asked as she pushed her skirt forward and sat down on the street side curb.

“I don’t know really. Muggles are fascinating sometimes but that’s not why I wanted to come to town. I guess I just wanted to go for a walk to get the nurfleens out of my dreams.”

Ginny giggled at that Luna had told her once before about the nurfleens.

“I guess I’m just … that meeting with Draco threw me off is all.” Luna confessed. “Madame Curie’s is a funny little shop, you know, people don’t just end up there by accident.”

“I thought you didn’t believe in Divination, Luna,” Ginny remarked looking up at her friend who stared at the tree across the street intently, the girl wore a wand behind her ear.

“I wonder if we were both there for a reason. Did we meet because it was destined? Do Draco and I have some part to play in some of life’s long story arc?”

“Maybe he was just trying to get out of the rain,” Ginny said a little defensively. This escaped Luna however, who was lost in her thoughts.

Ginny sighed.

Draco Malfoy was a git. Her whole family said as much and his own behavior towards her, when he had bothered to acknowledge her existence, had been deplorable, to say the least. So, why, she wondered, did she think of him incessantly and why was Luna Lovegood’s sudden interest in him niggling at her heart.

“Do you want to go look at some pottery?” Luna asked seemingly out of nowhere.

“What?” Ginny asked startled. “No. I’d … let’s go to that little jewelry shop. I like your necklace and … I just really like your necklace and I want something like that,” Ginny replied. She hopped to her feet, she wasn’t going to let doubts or her heart’s fickle swaying keep her down. She’d wasted a lot of time pinning for Harry she wasn’t going to do it over Draco Malfoy that much was true. Besides, if it came between picking her friends over her loves she’d pick her friends every time … wouldn’t she?

“Hey, Fredster,” a familiar voice rang out through the darkness.

“What are you doing here, Giovanni?” the werewolf boy asked the darkness.

A light came on illuminating the red haired boy’s face and he proceeded to lead his companion down the old World War II bombing tunnel.

“What I’m doing here is taking you to the boss.” the boy replied humorously.

“And what does the boss want with me? You know I’ve got better things I could be doing than running around in dark tunnels trying to figure out what the devil’s going on in the wizarding world …”

“Yeah, that’s right you live in the muggle world don’t you?”

“Don’t say that like it’s a bad thing.”

“I didn’t. It’s just weird, I mean you’re a wizard, don’t you want to be around your own kind?”

“I’m more than a wizard and yeah … I do. But, living around the muggles I can hide better and they don’t know to suspect certain things …” Freddie replied evasively. “Where’s Prince anyways, doesn’t that cat follow you everywhere?”

“Nope.” Giovanni replied and said nothing else until they arrived at a long staircase leading up into a tower in the middle of London. “It’s amazing the things you can hide around muggles in plain sight. If only they‘d bother to look …”

“I don’t know,” Freddie replied, “sometimes I’m glad they miss their noses for looking at their glasses.”

Laura sat there thinking to herself, Boys are stupid, and indeed when it comes to love they can be pretty stupid. She sighed wondering what Giovanni had gotten himself into. He was off on one of his jaunts again, his Aunt Margarita had told her.

"I could sit here all day or ..." she watched the wind rustling the light yellow curtain in the living room. It was sunny and bright outside and beautiful and the world was young and she was young and there was no point sitting around pining for a boy that didn't realize she was in love with him.

"I've been spending all my time just thinking about him," she said to the empty room. "Enough."

Laura ran to her bedroom, slammed the door shut. After a quick change of clothes she grabbed her purse threw loads of random accessories and necessities and she ran for the door then stopped at the mirror to make sure she looked pretty and happy. Then, Laura remembered her wand got it off her bedside table and ran out of the room.

Giovanni was stupid if he thought she was going to sit around waiting for him to notice she had feelings for him.

They walked into the room which lay in darkness. Freddie had his wand in his hand in seconds. The boy standing in the corner of the dark room held his hands up and smirked, behind him Teddy, using Draco as a shield, pointed his wand at Freddie.

"Boys, behave," a voice came from behind the desk. "I didn't call you all here so you could blow your heads off."

"Ottery?" Freddie asked. "You know I have better things I could be doing than traipsing through the city in the rain just so you can ..."

The boy stopped mid-sentence. The chair behind the desk turned and Freddie gasped. "You're not Ottery."

The boy replied, "No. Actually, I'm not."

"What's this I hear you've been giving your step mother a hard time?" her father's voice echoed in her mind. A tear slid down her cheek. Things had changed so much since mother had died. Her heart ached for her Momma but she was gone and Madison only had herself. That witch had turned her father against her and Madison was fine with that ... really she was.

The girl walked the darkened passages of the museum, shafts of bright moonlight crashed through the long tall windows but otherwise she was alone. The guards were busy chasing their socks which she had spelled to run off and they had left the museum unprotected.

Madison was here for the painting of Paris by Santini Armandus St. Valentin. It depicted a cupid smiling down, bow and arrow ready, and a balcony scene, many believed to be Romeo and Juliet in a new setting, and in the background the Eiffel Tower. It was heavily guarded. But then again most museums were but they were guarded against muggle thieves not wizarding ones. She sighed. She could have sent her doppleganger but the truth was she was not in any mood to be in the same house as her father and that evil witch.

"Honey, she only loves you and wants what's best for you. Did you know I had to drag it out of her she didn't want to tell me what it was that was bothering her so much ..."

Madison walked past the Egyptian exhibit. She fought the urge to steal the whole collection and return it to the Egyptian government. She didn't feel that witchy just yet. Then she stopped, smiled and paused. Oh, no he wasn't ...

The dark haired boy stood in front of the painting of Paris by Santini Armandus St. Valentin wondering how best to dislodge it. The thing was a veritable mural and would not be easy to carry.

"Step away from that and ..."

"Madison, nice to see you," Ottery replied smiling. "I thought you'd quit this racket."

"No, I just took up another one ..."

"Let me guess, Death Eater?"

"Try Death Stalker." Madison smirked. "Octavius wants that painting ..."

"Funny, I want Octavius," Ottery replied. "What? Did you really think this was you trapping me? Sorry honey, I'm a little bit older than all that ... I wasn't born yesterday you know." He smiled wickedly, then snapped his fingers.

“Funny isn’t it? How we all want that painting,” a third voice called out of the shadows.

Ottery snapped his fingers again.

“If you’re thinking about turning on the lights or something try clapping maybe that will work.” The mysterious voice exclaimed. “If however, you mean to call on your friends … they might be a little bit … tied up at the moment.” He laughed as he said that and walked into the moonlight and there stood a blue eyed, blue haired boy whose long locks cascaded to his waist where a broadsword hung at his side. “The name is Conrad, Conrad Fate. Please don’t forget it. For future reference, if either of you amateurs thinks they can actually come after something I’ve set my sites on. Next time you hear it you‘ll know better than to come after it.”

He smirked the way Malfoy smirked, Ottery thought to himself. “Why can’t anything I’m ever doing ever be easy?” The dark haired boy asked.

“You’re both idiots,” Madison exclaimed and with a wave of her wand she had summoned a small tornado which started ripping through the floor tiles and flew with its debris dangerously towards the boys.

“Please,” Ottery replied stopping the wind with a flick of his wand and even replacing the broken tiles as good as new.

“Thank you,” Conrad said as he stunned Ottery and as he turned on Madison he found she wasn’t there but his feet were sinking into quicksand. “Impressive … for a first year.” He laughed as he flew into the air and the quicksand followed in the shape of a giant snake. “I take it back,” he said blasting the snake into countless bits of sand.

“I’m not here to impress anybody,” Madison’s bodiless voice echoed through the halls.

“Now dear, don’t be bitter. I have a proposal to make.” From out of the darkness a stunning spell flew at him and he deflected it with his wand sending it crashing against the wall where it left a large gaping hole.

“If that proposal involves me leaving you on your feet and letting you walk out of here with the painting then you’re nuts.” Madison’s voice echoed again in response. “Otherwise, I’m listening.”

“I propose we both turn on Ottery and kill him. Then we can fight each other for the painting. Last wizard standing.” His form flew down to the museum floor where he hid behind a column.

“Marquis of Queensbury rules?” she asked from everywhere at once.

“Deal?” Conrad asked.

Madison stepped out of the shadows. The blue haired boy smiled and bowed but his eyes never left her nor did his wand leave his hand, and Madison curtsied again not letting Conrad or his wand out of her sight. “It’s a deal,” they said together.

“That’s nice you two, write me and let me know how the honeymoon went,” Ottery remarked from where he was standing in the gaping hole a large roll of canvas at his side. He threw them a raspberry as he ran laughing into the night and as Conrad and Madison made to follow after him they were stopped. Mud monsters started walking into the museum blocking his exit.

Ottery stepped into an Astin Martin and he turned to his driver and said, “Seriously, kids today. Think they know everything, who do they think invented the ol’ getaway?”

“Dunno boss,” the thug said and sped off.

Five miles down the road Ottery cursed, and it wasn’t a spell. He’d forgotten Neville and Colin back at the museum.

Meanwhile, back at the museum, Neville and Colin were tied up together smiling and talking in the dark about the beautiful exhibits around them.

“You’re obsessing over this stupid painting for nothing, Octavius,” his best mate warned him as the boy practiced his fencing.

KLING went the sound of rapiers slapping.

“I’m not obsessing over anything. The painting is important. I know it is. You-know-who had an interest in it and therefore …”

SHING.

“We have an interest in it. I understand that; the old fool had interests in a lot of things, but you never tell us what they are or why.” Adam hinted at his fellow Death Stalker‘s distaste with the whole enterprise.

GRING.

“All you need to know is that I want it because he wanted it or perhaps he once had it. It may contain powerful magic or it might be something more … important,” Octavius alluded, smirking, as if he knew something he didn’t want anyone else to know.

“You mean like a horcrux or something?” Octavius' friend threw out.

Octavius did not lose his cool; he pretended not to know what his friend was talking about and continued with the fight. The poor house elf he was battling was losing badly, because he had not the advantage of either size or position, being that he served his master and to beat him in a fight would have meant a flogging or worse.

No one could be trusted, Octavius thought, not even his best mate and how the devil had that little secret been leaked out? Or had it been leaked? Knowing a word and knowing the true definition of the word were entirely different things.

SHING. The house elf’s sword went flying in the air and Octavius kicked the poor creature in the chest knocking him down, then put his foot at his throat and the point of the rapier at his heart.

“Horux? What are you talking about?” Octavius feigned ignorance as he turned to eye his friend.

“Horus, the Egyptian god,” the boy feigned as well.

If Octavius was going to play the fool he would play an even bigger one. Still, Adam knew now that his friend Octavius would be more cautious now for his slip.

‘Life was funny’ so the saying went that Ottery constantly threw at them. What wasn’t funny was Seamus and Dean standing in the Cairo safe house and finding it completely abandoned. No traces of anything except paper and scorched spell marks all over the walls as if a battle had taken place there.

“This can’t be good, mate,” Seamus said.

“Tell me about it,” Dean added.

“Cluck, Pa Kaaaaaaaaw!” Clucky, the plucky hen said.

“Seriously Seamus, did we have to … ?” Dean asked sighing. He didn’t finish the sentence watching his friend dropping some feed on the ground for Clucky. Dean had drawn the line at Lenin the pig. He was not going to bring the whole animal farm.

O.K. so I went back and voted on Human Nature. I just found out the other day about the voteing on threads deal when I read your one_shot. (gave you full stars cause it's brilliant and beautiful) and I've given you full stars on this story also, I'm proud to say, because you've earned them. This post was great as usual, and threw me a curve when you casually slipped in the House Elfe was the fencing partner. Please don't run him through. I quite agree with Hermione's preaching on S.P.E.W. annoying as she was with it, she was right.

Now, you may be asking yourself who it was sitting behind the chair if it wasn’t actually Ottery. What other powerful presence could have called together such an interesting medley of characters like Freddie St. Valentine, Draco Malfoy, Giovanni, his cat Prince and Teddy D. Bear? Well, I’m not saying just yet, but here’s more story so hold on to your seats please it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

"Well, we make a fine pair of es don't we?" Conrad said good naturedly.

Madison for her part was brushing off the mud from her cloak. She had not hesitated in exploding the mud monsters but it made a very large mess. She remained quiet, took a deep breath and turned around, wand in hand, ready to blast the stranger and find out who he was, what the devil he wanted and why had he interfered?

Conrad's wand was inches from her left eye.

"I was the quickest spell caster at Durmstrang when I ..." he landed on his bum across the room before he could finish his sentence.

"You talk too much, just like all you boys do."

"So I take it we're not friends anymore?" Conrad remarked, getting to his feet and swatting her next spell out of the way.

"I'm getting that painting back."

"Funny, so am I." Conrad smiled wickedly.

This so infuriated Madison that she blasted the ceiling over him and let it come crashing down over him. Through the dust all she could hear was his laughter and she ran out of the museum as the sound of muggle sirens approached. Their constabulary would soon be there and find the painting missing and the mess. She sighed. Madison wanted very much to call Freddie but his association with Ottery complicated things.

Her cloak fluttered in the wind as she ran towards the parked carriage next to the museum. The thestrals would fly her out of the city towards the zeppelin and she could spend the night there, because she didn't fancy going back home to her father and that awful woman.

I can't believe tomorrow has been today for two hours and yesterday seems like a long time ago. I need to go to bed, but I wanted to post quickly. Forgive me for not useing the cute, fun, little thingies that I learned to clutter up my posts with, but it takes me to long to put them in, sooooo... just a plain post this time. I've tried and tried to figure out the authority in the chair that called the meeting, and I've got nothing, maybe a character we haven't met, maybe Snape, or the boy that was switched out secretly with his dyeing mother so he didn't have to be in Askaban, something something Jr. Barty Crouch Jr. thats it. I'll go sleep on it and maybe oh well good night and great post.
