Prologue.

Ella R. Greene, to her small Ohio town, was a normal teenage girl with a seemingly normal family. She was sent to a private school in the fall, her mother was a housewife and her father walked to the bus stop every day for work. They had three older daughters who had went to college, graduated and now were doing quite well for themselves. Oh yes the Greene’s had blended in well. In reality, Edward Greene, worked for the ministry in Salem and used a portkey to travel. His wife Deborah used the floo network to travel to her administrative job at St. Lukes, the largest magic hospital in America, and Ella attended Salem’s Witches Institute. Edward and Deborah loved their normal life and got a long quite well with muggles and wizards alike.
Though her parents loved their predictable bland life, Ella wanted adventure. Her adventurer’s heart often got her in trouble, and at Salem she was deemed rebellious and often was seen in detention. Ella herself was brilliant in her favorite subject potions, but the subjects she loathed, she got low marks in. Ella did not get along with her parents. Her father was brash and often was blabbing on about academics and how Ella doesn’t take things seriously. After all she was pure blood and her 8 times great grandfather was Minister of Magic in Salem.She had grown up listening to that.He was stern and had worked for the ministry for over 25 years. He could not say what department he worked in, but Ella had a hunch it was Department of Mysteries. Her mother was quiet and kept to herself. Her hair and makeup was done perfectly and she kept house the same way. She had gone to Salem and did well earning the honorable prefect badge her sixth and seventh year. She was also a cheerleader at Salem ,cheering for the best quidditch team they had The Eagles.
Ella resembled her eldest sister Jenny, the same long dark brown hair with the brightest blue eyes. She captured the hearts of all the local boys, but shown them no interest thinking them to be dull. Ella’s parents did not know what to do with her. She wasn’t excelling in her academics like her sisters had; she acted out and was often sneaking out. Her parents were planning something though, and Ella never noticed anything until one night in mid June, Edward Greene got two owls that would change Ella’s life.


Dear Edward C Greene,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to be head of the department of ______, well you know. Having been serving the Salem Ministry for over twenty years, you are indeed well qualified. We would like you start on September first at 8 am.

As soon as Edward stopped reading the Letter, He glanced at the other one and began before Ella could even grasp fully on what was going on.


Dear Edward C Greene,

I have recieved your letter of recommendation from the ministry and we are pleased to say that we will accept your daughter Ella R Greene to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed are her school supplies list and her official letter. This is the first time a new student as been accepted as a fourth year in all of Hogwarts History.The train at Platform 9 ¾, Kings Cross Station in London leaves promptly at eleven am. Congratulations are in order on your new position here in London.

Ella couldn’t believe what she was hearing, moving? Going to a new school? “Dad, am I dreaming?” Ella spoke so softly it was as she was whispering. “No, Ella we will be moving and just so you know if you put one foot out of place at Hogwarts, they won’t be like Salem.” “I’ve heard good things about there academics, you better do well.” Her father always ended a sentence with a “you better do this” and usually added something about academics. Ella smiled. Her father was stern, but with a smile she knew she could get away with murder. “What made you decide to apply for the position?” “Better pay and I don’t know twenty five years in the same position gets old, plus you know how I am about academics and the lack of good marks you have!” Ella rolled her eyes, here he goes again. “Edward dear the book….” Ella looked puzzled, for one her mother spoke and secondly what did she mean about a book. “Of course!” “Thanks Deb, I almost forgot” Ella’s mother smiled. The head of the Greene Household reached in the cupboard and brought out a package. “Ella, this is for you.” Ella looked at the package and tore open the paper to find, Hogwarts a History. “ I want you to read the entire thing and give me a report of what you learned.” Edward said that proudly. “Are you serious?” Ella said as she thumbed through the over 1,000 page book. “You better read that book!” “Get started, right now, you are excused from dinner.” “But I’m not done eating!” “Of you go!” Realizing that defeat was inevitable, she grabbed the book and her letter from Hogwarts and trudged up the stairs.
She plopped on her bed and began Hogwarts a History.

Hello ?, Sorry, I don't know your name. I saw your story and decided to read it. I think what caught my eye was, Ella, is from Ohio. I am originally from Ohio. It looks like Ella has a big challenge ahead of her. She should have been allowed to finish eating though. I hate it when parents do that.

Congratulations on your first Fan Fiction. It looks very promising! I like the fact that Ella tries to stand her ground both in school and with her parents, but I think her dad has definitely jumped three steps ahead of her at the moment... nothing like a good blind-side hit to spook a teenager!

I'm so glad you chose to bring Ella to Hogwarts and keep the names of the teacher as they presently are. I think Ella better watch her Ps and Qs... especially around, McGonnagal, Dumbledore and Snape! Can't wait for the fun to begin!

Hey there! This is really great, I loved it!
One thing, though. I don't mean to nit-pick, but this really confuses me as I'm reading a passage when people don't do it... when a new person talks, or a new idea/subject comes up, you're supposed to start another paragraph. Otherwise people (like me ) get lost or confused. Also, one big paragraph or chunk of text can put people off reading because it seemes like a lot of writing.

Chapter One

The day had arrived. Ella, who had never shown any sign of anxiousness, was now nervous. Ella stood in the doorway of her bedroom and sighed. Most of her belongings were packed away, but she noticed she forgot to take down her Salem Witches Poster. “Accio!” The poster flew to her, and she caught it and rolled it up. As much as she complained, she was really going to miss home.
“Ella!, Get Down here , and say goodbye!” Ella came down the stairs to a room full of their neighbors and random town folk. Her mother and father were looking displeased at all the muggles in there living room. Not that they were against muggles, on the contrary they were big muggle rights supporters. But everything in there house had not been packed using packaging tape, bubble wrap and the house was not full of boxes. No, instead everything was shrunk using a charm, and all the large furniture was stuffed in what seemed as a little clutch purse. Sensing the glances were directing towards the rest of there house, her father sensed there curiosity was growing a little to bold, so he ushered everyone outside the patio.
All the neighbors were like a swarm of bees, trying to buzz around the house and property for any ounce of last minute gossip .Finally around eight a clock. They left. “Why on earth did they bring all this food?” Her father seemed annoyed. “This is going to be very hard to transport back and forth!” “Ella, dear is everything packed?” Her mother wanted to quickly change the subject. “Yes, Mom.” “Good”.
The Greene’s had been successful upon selling the house. When everyone else seemed to struggle, no one deemed it odd that the Greene’s did not.
Ella and her parents did a walkthrough, “Well Greene’s we did great!” Ella laughed at her father. “Ok, here is the plan” Ella interrupted her father. “Dad, we know the plan you made us go over it for the past two weeks.” Oh Ella if you know it so well, then recite it.” Her dad sound so mater of fact, she winced. Why do I open my mouth? She thought to herself. “ Well me and mom here , are going to carry some bags and apparate over to the new house, then you will show up shortly with more bags. Then I will be left with cleaning up and unpacking, while you and mom go back and forth.” Edward was impressed. “Ok and why are we doing this at night?” He always seemed keen on quizzing his youngest daughter. “Well, we don’t want to have all of our nosy neighbors, bothering us again.” “Not, the best answer, but it will do.”

“Ok, Everyone ready?"
“Yes”
Ella never felt anything, so mind blowing as appariting. She landed on what was seemed to be solid ground and vomited. “I am not doing that again!” Her mom chuckled, kissed her daughter’s head and said ‘I’ll be back, start unpacking.” Ell looked around and settled at a window seat , she looked out at her new home , she thought “ This place is beautiful, she took in the serene views and then she jumped at the sound POP.
“ Ella R Greene, why aren’t you packing?

She rolled her eyes. “When does school start again?”

Great new chapter! I love how you shrunk the furniture et al in order for the family to move! Your last couple of lines were priceless!

This is perfect... the fact that the parents are able to apparate and disapparate makes skiving a hard thing for Ella to do. Ella's reply is pure gold. We know how much she hates the thought of going to Hogwarts, yet, she prefers it to unpacking. It made me laugh. Typical teen-aged behaviour!

Keep up the great work. I can't wait until Ella gets to Hogwarts!

Hello Heather. I was born in Lancaster, but lived in Logan, Corning, Newark, and Mt Vernon, also. Anywhere close to where you was? I don't blame him. Some things are just hard to pack, like already prepared food. Although there are times when one doesn't want to know how the neighbors get their money. Awe! maybe you hope for once thy believe you, and they swallow their words anf just go on with things. At least she likes her new home. And I agree with Katie: I think the last bit was my favorite also! Great work, and I'll be watching for your next post.

Chapter 2
September 1st

It was still dark out, but Ella knew the sun would rise within the hour. She lay in her bed trying to force her eyes shut. She had been up all night packing and re packing and re reading any books she could find about Hogwarts. It is safe to say she had not slept the entire night. She tossed and turned and when she thought she finally was ready to sleep, the sun peaked through her curtain and the alarm went off.
She stretched a bit and went toward her window. The sun light felt warm, but the chill of fall was in the air. Today is the day, she said out loud. Ella loved London, and often spent her days reading a book at the leaky cauldron, enjoying the atmosphere of the company of others just like her. After all in America, the wizarding population was scattered, the only family near Ella’s hometown was 45 miles away. She loved how everyone was just like her. She fell in love with the city life. One of the best things about London was, Her eldest sister Jenny, lived near by and often visited.
Ella proceeded to get ready, and make sure her hair and makeup and clothes looked good. Ok. Ready she thought. She glanced at her alarm clock, WHAT!!?!! Only 7 am. Oh Lord. Ella plopped on her bed. I just want to leave already! As she began round 10 of checking her packing, her mother interrupted her thoughts.
“Ella, someone is here to see you!” her mother seemed to be in a good mood. Ella got up peeked out her door and saw her older sister coming up the stairs.
“JENNY!” She ran and hugged her. “I haven’t seen you in a week, what’s going on?” “Im here to see my little sister, off to school!” “I’m riding with you guys to Kings Cross” “That is great” Ella was smiling big.

Jenny was twelve years older than Ella, but they were the closest out of the four Greene sisters. Jenny was a hard worker and started working for the Daily Prophet at age twenty two. She was often cast aside to write the fluff pieces, but always wanted to become a feature writer. The editors knew she was good, but Rita Skeeter, could get a story, maybe not the most truthful story, but a story none the less.

“I see your taking inventory” “ Aww the Greene trait, cant just pack once, got to make sure everything is laid out on the floor, then pack in order of weight then take out and re pack then take inventory at least 20 times” They both laughed.” Actually I was at ten, so …..” “Of course I will help!” “Let me get your notepad.” “Ok here we go”

1. “Three sets of plain work robes (black)” … “CHECK”
2. One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear…. “CHECK”
3. One winter cloak (black with silver fastenings)…. “CHECK”
4. One set of dress robes (any color, conservative style) …. “CHECK”

The checking , went on until they finished the books , equipment , muggle clothing and toiletries. “Well, it looks like you are all set!”

Jenny sensed something was weighing on Ella’s mind. “ What’s wrong?”
“ I just loved Salem so much ,and I’m worried they wont accept me here” "Trust me El, I was the same way , I was twenty two , without my parents , coming to live in another country , I was scared and worried I wouldn’t fit in. But look, its been four years and yes I wish I was making more and getting more recognition, but I thank God, for my life.” “Trust me, I have seen Hogwarts, even met Albus Dumbledore, you will love it.” “I went to Salem, for seven years,and had the time of my life,but that one glance at Hogwarts made me wish I could travel back in time, and somehow go there.” Jenny smiled to her self, as if she was dreaming about Hogwarts.
“Jeez, Jenny maybe you should take polyjuice potion and go as me.” Ella laughed. “I’m serious , Dumbledore is the best headmaster ,and you will love it there” “ If only the prophet would get that. I feel like there is only a few of us Dumbledore supporters and the head of the pack of haters is Rita Skeeter.”
“Listen, Jen The truth always prevails, I know the prophet doesn’t get that , but trust me your time will come.” “God, you sound like the older sister!” “Love you” “I love you too big sis”

10:00am Kings Cross Station. Platform 9 3/4

“Wow, and hour early this is great, dad.” Ella, didn’t want to be late, but an hour early seemed a little ridiculous. “Greene’s are punctual, Ella and the sarcasm is not needed.” Her father said proudly. Ella and Jenny giggled. “I’ve heard that same line for 26 years.” “Lisa and Angela, both wish they were here, but they wish you the best” Lisa and Angela were Ella’s middle sisters. “Oh do they know” Ella couldn’t help the sarcasm. “Ella Rae Greene, I told you to cut the sarcasm.” “Sorry Dad!” Just then, a tap came on Ella’s shoulder.
“Excuse me, are you Ella Greene.” “Ummmm Yes” “Hi, I am Hermione Granger, and Professor Dumbledore , wanted me to show you around and get settled on the train.” “Oh, that’s great!” Ella’s parents seemed please. “I will meet you right over there at quarter till and then we can meet everyone.” “Ok, thanks” Ella smiled, well she seemed nice , her thoughts seemed to ease.

10:45 am

Hermione Granger was ready at exactly 10:45am. Maybe she is related to the Greene’s, Ella thought. “Ok, ready?” Hermione seemed anxious too. “As I’ll ever be” They laughed. They walked on to the train and quickly found a seat. “Wow, you two are early. “ Ella this is Harry Potter, and Ronald Weasley” “Hello, they echoed.” “We are all in Gryffindor.” Ella , read on the houses , and hoped to also be placed in Gryffindor.
“Hello, Nice to meet you.”
Fearing it would turn awkward, Hermione began asking Ella, every question known to man kind.” They all starting laughing and soon the awkwardness was shed away and Ella relaxed knowing everything was going to be ok.










I promise next chapter, she will be at Hogwarts = )
I know I made some paragraph's kinda long , but I needed to show the relationship between Ella and Jenny.

Hello Heather. Wow! Way northeast. I love how you've made the transition from her old home to her new, and she alrady has some things she loves doing. That's great! I love how you include the relationship of the family members. And I love Jenny! This was a very sweet thing to say. I also wonder if it is a prophecy. Oh, I want her to be in Gryffindor too! Great chapter! I especially love the lists. I don't know about other people, but I can't live without lists!

I also really enjoy the relationship you've created between Ela and Jenny. If I'm correct, after having to use my fingers and toes, I have concluded that Ella is 14 years old? Which would make this story take place during the Triwizard Cup? I hope I'm right! I can't wait to see what will happen next with Ella in the mixture!

Chapter 3

The train ride to Hogwarts was very enjoyable to Ella. Her new companions, had her laughing and in awe of their previous adventures. “You guys went to the quidditch world cup?” “I’m so jealous!”

Her three new friends were grinning ear to ear.
“Ron, how many siblings do you have again?”

“Well, here I’ll name everyone”

“Bill…Charlie….Percy……Fred and George… and me of course …then Ginny.” Ron had rehearsed it because most people couldn’t believe there was so many Weasley’s .

“Ella do you have any siblings and if so what do they do?”
“Well , not as many as you Ron , but there is
Jenny who is 26, works for the daily prophet,
Angela is 25 and is a model who lives in New York City ,and writes for Witches Weekly , the America’s version.
Lisa is 24 and works in Boston at a museum and does all sorts of expeditions in Egypt.”
“Then there is me, my parents had me pretty late in life, considering my oldest sis is 12 years older than me.”

The sound of a unified “OH”, came from , Ron , Hermione and Harry.

They kept the conversation going, laughing about quidditch , which subjects did they love and hate and somehow Gilderoy Lockhart’s name was brought up.

“Hermione , tell me you didn’t have a crush on him!!!”

“ I was eleven years old, and well he does have a very nice smile and hey I wasn’t the only one!”

They all laughed at Hermione’s calculated response.

The laughter was broken, when the door slid open and two boys with flaming red hair were grinning in the door way.

“Ella , this is my twin brothers , Fred and George.”

“So the rumors are true , a new fourth year is on the train” Fred spoke as he looked Ella up and down.

“Im Ge..orge…yep George is my name.” Ella smiled, stood and shook his hand. “Pleased to meet you”

“ No Ella., The pleasure is all mine….” He bowed while keeping her hand in his. "Ok , Romeo ,Lee wants us with a full report on her looks, Fred said blunlty."

Harry started to laugh, and Hermione had a puzzled look on her face. Ron broke the silence.

“Never in my life have I seen George , not know what to say.” “Never”

“He’s cute.” Ella said with smile plastered on her face.

It was starting to get dark, so they put on there robes.

Then it wasn’t long, before the train came to a halt.
“Well, it looks like were here” Harry said happily.

They got there things and proceeded to get line to get out of the train.
A boy, who looked like he had a permanent smug look on his face, ran right into Ella.

“Excuse me”, Ella said.
The boy didn’t apologize, nor did he even glance at her.

“Draco, Malfoy, a git if you ask me”, said Ron.
Ella looked back wondering if she was going to have any trouble with him.

They were off the train and soon ushered into a carriage that seemed to be pulling itself.

Then they could see Hogwarts in the moonlight.
Ella just stared in awe.
She knew, her mouth was open, but she didn’t care. She was staring at pure beauty.

Harry whispered in Ella’s ear.
“Welcome Home, Ella”

She turned and smiled .
Jenny was right, the castle was memorizing.

It was enjoyable to see the original three interact with Ella. I especially liked when Ella met George. Personally, he is my favourite guy charrie in the HP series! Do you think you might get them together? I mean... he'll soon forget about Angelina.... I also liked how you were able to casually introduce us to Ella's sisters, well done!

I have one request for you... I am curious as to how Ella looks...

Hello Heather. I enjoyed your post very much. It's really good that she has made friends with the right sort of people there. Harry, Ron and Hermione. And her run in with Draco is so typical. He is such a snob, and I'm not fond of him at all. Maybe George should have stayed there to gather more information for himself, I mean Lee. Great post. I'll be watching for your next.

Chapter 4

They stepped of the carriage, and walked up to the entrance of the castle.
“There will be the sorting ceremony , then Dumbledore will make some announcements , then food time!”
Hermione rolled her eyes.
“Ronald, do you think about stuffing your face every minute??”

“Why mione, you know I do”

Ella smiled.

“Miss. Greene, Miss Greene….”

An older woman was calling out her name.

“I’m Ella Greene.”

The lady walked up to her, and smiled politely.

“I’m professor McGonagall, deputy headmistress.” “You will not be sorted with the first years, but after the feast you will meet all the other professors in the Headmaster’s office.”

“Have Miss. Granger take you there.”
“Ok, sounds great”
McGonagall sent her a reassuring smile, and began looking for the first years.

“I guess I’m sitting with you guys and then after everyone is sent to bed, I must go to Dumbledore’s office to be sorted.” Ella told Hermione , Ron and Harry

“Come this way, you will marvel at the great hall.” Hermione said in a knowing tone.

They entered the hall, and to her amazement hundreds upon hundreds of candles lit the hall. The ceiling had some sort of charm on it to look like the dark starry sky.

They led the way, to a seat next to Seamus Finnegan , Neville Longbottom and Ginny Weasley, Ron’s little sister .
The Gryffindor’s company was very welcoming. Her want to be In Gryffindor Grew upon meeting the other students in the house.

They began, naming off the teachers, so she could know who is who.
“Snape is potions, watch out for him.” Harry said.

“Oh Potions is my subject, I got that in the bag.”
Everyone looked at her
“You like potions?” Seamus said in horror.

“Umm, its my favorite subject , I’ve had high marks in it since I started school.” “He doesn’t scare me .”

Ron voice shook, “Not now , but just wait , you will see .”

Ella was not a very confident person. But when it came to potions, she felt very confident and more times then none , got every potion correct .

Soon, professor McGonagall brought out a stool and put an old ratty hat on it. Then the young first years were in line. “Oh , how I hope the hat doesn’t take forever” Said Neville.

Ella had no idea what anyone was talking about, but within few minutes she realized the hat sang. He sang about the four houses and then after about two minutes he stopped and the first students name was read of. She was amazed at each person’s reaction to the hat and the house he called out.

After the line started to shrink, panic struck her. “I’m going to have to put that hat on me.”

“The houses are chosen in random…right” Ella whispered to Hermione.

“Oh , no he examines your head.” Hermione whispered back

She swallowed some water, and tried to stop shaking. She knew she had deep dark secrets in her head, and didn’t want anyone to know about them.

Then it was over the stool was taken away and Albus Dumbledore stood. He was like his picture in the prophet. Long silver hair and beard with half moon glasses.

He started to introduce the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher , when a man with a crippled leg, battered up face and a magical eye walked in. It was then announced that Mad Eye Moody was the man’s name and he was the teacher Dumbledore was talking about.
The students seemed surprise and in shock. He was famous after all.

Then the big announcement came

After many years, the Tri wizard Tournament was coming back to Hogwarts.

The hall was in shock.

He announced the prize money , and the excitement grew, Dumbledore also said that the other schools would be arriving shortly.
It wasn’t for Ella, but the Weasley twins seemed excited, that until the age limit was said.

“RUBBISH”
They yelled.

She shook her head; She had watched such tournaments in America. They were dangerous, and the schools that partook in them were ones from Canada, America and Brazil. .

Everyone seemed sucked in to the anticipation of who the Hogwarts Champion would be and when the other schools would be coming.

Soon the speech was over and everyone began eating the amazing feast. “Hello Gryffindor, first years”, said a ghost.
“That’s nearly headless Nick” said Ron with a mouth full of potatoes.

“Did you have any ghosts in Salem?”

“Just Alice Parker, she was one of the witches put to death during the trials. There were others hung with her, so it’s kind off a mystery why she’s the only one that lingers. “

Hermione kept going about the trials, in shock. “I’ve read information about them , but to think some were actual muggles.”


“Very dark times, One of the witches was turned in by her four year old daughter.” Said Ella.

“Shocking”, said Hermione.

“America ,at the time didn’t have order , the ministry of Britain was still running things and the lack of communication was what did it.” “ People were doing spells out in the open, it was a matter of time when the muggles would be suspicious.” “ No one blames them for turning them in, I mean we are supposed to keep hidden.” “ Panic is a very dangerous thing.”

“Why didn’t they just apparate?” Said Harry.

“It’s a mystery , I tried asking Alice that same question ,and she just cried and I got a weeks worth of detention for it.”

“Hermione is going to go to the library and look all this up, I know it.” Harry laughed at Ron, because he knew he was right.

The feast was coming to an end, and Ella thought she ate enough to last her for three days. She soon remembered the meeting she had to go to about the sorting. What will the hat say? Will he tell Dumbledore that she will be trouble and not allow her at Hogwarts? The possibilities were endless.
Dumbledore instructed everyone to bed, and Ella got up and followed Harry, Ron and Hermione to Dumbledore’s office.

“Well here it is” said Hermione.

Ella stood in front of a gargoyle and looked puzzled.

“Ummm… How do I get in there?”

They heard a muffled whisper and turned around.

All four of them leaped to see Professor Snape.

“Do you three always insist on being the center of attention?”
“Go back to your common room, five pts from Gryffindor!”

“Already?!!!” Harry boldly said.

“Make it ten” Snape said coolly.
“Go now!”
Without a word they turned around, gave Ella a half smile and a shrug and left.

“Now, up the stairs you go.” Snape stood there, eyeing Ella.

She walked up the spiral stone steps, and began breathing in and out.

“And here she is” Dumbledore grabbed her hand and took her around the corner where the entire teaching staff were standing there smiling. All except Snape and Mad Eye both looking annoyed.

He began by naming all the professors, and the subjects they taught. Ella shook their hands and when she got to Mr. Binns she stood there and said “Nice to Meet you.” It was very awkward him being a ghost and all.

“Well, lets not keep you waiting, have a seat.” Dumbledore ushered her to the same stool the first years sat in.

Then he reached for the hat and put it on her head.

“Hmmmmm, Miss. Greene, how very odd your mind is.” “Older than most I sort…..troubled mind I see.” “Loads of secrets, but I do see courage.” “You don’t have the urge to be famous, and successful like your sisters.” “Hmmmmm Gryffindor!”

Ella sighed in relief.

Dumbledore and McGonagall clapped in joy.

They all were chatting, when Ella decided to go up to Snape.
“Professor, I have a question.”

Snape turned, in surprise, no student ever had questions for him.

“I was wondering if there was any way I could double my potions classes.”

“That interested in Potions are you” “ You have morning Potions with Slytherin’s tomorrow.” “I have heard you have a gift, but I teach differently then your old professors.” “I’ll will see your level, and then I will make the call.”

“Thanks” Ella said nodding her head.

Snape just looked at her , didn’t say another word and left.

“Ok, Ella, let me take you to the common room.” McGonagall said.

They walked in silence, until McGonagall began to speak.

“Well, I hope you enjoy it here, study hard, and you will be rewarded.”

She then stopped in front of a painting of a fat lady, spoke the password and it opened to reveal a large round hole.

“In you go, New Gryffindor robes and your stuff is already in the dorms.”
“Better get some sleep”

Ella watched her leave and hopped in the door way.
The portrait closed behind her and she walked in to the common room.

“Congratulations!!” Said her fellow Gryffindor students.

She smiled
Yes this was home.

I always wondered what happened to the students that arrived at Hogwarts after their third year. Your explanation seemed well thought out and reasonable. I really enjoyed how you got through the whole sorting feast. It was quick, pleasant and humourous. I love the twins! *sighs*

So, what I'm trying to figure out now is... What are the mysteries and secrets trapped within Ella's head... and what is she going to get up to during the TriWizard Cup? I mean, it seems she has been adopted as the forth in the Harry Potter trio... I can't wait!

Oh, oh, oh... what's up with Ella, Snape and potions...? I can't wait! This was a great chapter!

Hello Heather. I'm quite in agreement with Katie. Great chapter, and lots to look forward to learning about. I do not like Snape at all! He is so unfair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though Hermiome was the one to take her to Dumbledore's office, he still would have given her one for not just dropping her off and leaving. He is such a bad egg!

Ella , will befriend Ron , Hermione and Harry , but will be interacting with other students and often will be alone.

Snape is mean , but we all know why he is. = )
There will be a lot of snape /ella interaction.

Chapter 5


Ella woke up before anyone else, and got cleaned up. She found herself staring at the mirror. She knew she wasn’t ugly per say, but to her she seemed too plain. Her long dark hair seemed always in the way. She tugged at it and tried to fix it up to look nice, ut it wouldnt go her way.

Still unsatisfied with her hair, she pulled out her wand.
Her wand was a special part of her. It chose her after all.
9 inches, A bald eagle feather as the core.
She remembered the day she got her wand, and how she felt. She was so young then.

She spoke 'Straitandeo' and gloss came out of the wand. She took her wand and went over her hair, her hair went perfectly strait. She smiled. Perfect.

A few minutes later, girls and more girls came flooding in the bathroom. She was glade to have woken up early.

She had time before breakfast to linger in the common room and read a chapter or two of Potions. She could tell from the first two chapters that Potions would be harder than what she was used too.

She heard the voice of Ron Weasley coming from the boy’s dormitory.

“Morning Potions with the Slytherins.” “ Yuck” ….Ron said in a whining tone.

Ella saw Harry trailing behind, shaking his head.

The foursome went of to breakfast, and enjoyed each other’s company.

Then the great hall was flooded with owls.

She had received two and a half letters. The half being from Angela who barely wrote an entire sentence.

Ella smiled to herself, Jenny seemed to wash away her nerves.

The conversation , soon went to the tri wizard tournament. “Everyone thinks Cedric Diggory will be the Hogwarts champion.” Hermione said.

Both boys rolled their eyes.
“Who’s Cedric?”

“He’s in Hufflepuff, actually he is sitting right over there.” Hermione pointed with her eyes.

“Oh he is handsome” Ella said staring at Him.
“ Too bad there is no quidditch.” Harry said.
“ Yeah , that’s too bad , I love quidditch.” Ella said

They talked about what to expect their fourth year at Hogwarts, until the bell rang.

“ I have been dreading Snape all holiday” said Harry.

“Me too” said Ron and Hermione in unison.

Ella glanced at Ron and Hermione.

Hmmmm, she thought. Ron’s ears are red. Maybe there is something going on there.

They reached the dungeons where the Potions class took place. It was damp, chilly and dark. Perfect for brewing. Ella found a seat , and got her supplies all laid out on the table. She breathed in and out, and was finally ready.

Snape walked in , looked around and started his speech.

“ I guess it’s another year of the same know it alls like Granger, The celebrity, Mr. Potter and the nitwits of Longbottom and Weasley.” “Malfoy , wipe that grin of your face.”

Ella suddenly undersood why Griffindor’s did not like Snape.

“I will be calling off partners for your first lesson.”

“ Weasley, Parkinson”
“ Malfoy, Greene”
“ Potter , Goyle”


He went on and on till everyone had a partner.

“ Page 25, anyone can tell me what the “After Death” Potion can do?”


Ella was the only one who dared raised her hand.

“Granger , you do have competition”

“Greene?”

“They use it on a dead body , right before burial It preserves the body. “

“ Correct, Each of you will prepare the potion with their partner.”
“No mistakes , and I want a detailed parchment of notes”
“ Begin”

Snape said the instructions in such a cool manner, that it made shivers go up Ella’s spine.

“Oh Joy , I get the new kid”

“You better get me high marks!”

Malfoy spoke in such a haughty way.

“Cool it, I know more about brewing potions then you do, so I suggest you sit your Im better than everyone self down.”

She read the instructions before starting anything.
Then she brought out her journal, quills, cauldron, ladle, and glasses.

“Seriously, Greene!”
“Everyone is starting before us.”
Malfoy would not shut up.

“ Be quiet, will you?” Ella said in a stern whisper.

She went to the cabinet, where the ingredients were and began to gather them.
A few ingredients weren’t on the list, but she grabbed them anyway.

“Ok now we are ready to start.” Ella told Malfoy.

“Why in heavens name, are you wearing those ridicules glasses.” He said in a snarl.

“Protection, you idiot” She snapped back.

She was the only one wearing safety glasses, but she didn’t mind. Even when she heard snarky comments, she just ignored them.

She began her brewing, She glanced at Draco who was just staring at the parchment , clearly pretending to do something.

She noticed everyone was finishing when she still had about twenty minutes left.

“This is just embarrassing” Malfoy said in almost a whisper
“Seriously do I have to shut you up?” She glared at him. She added an additional ingredient that wasn’t listed. She made sure Draco, wasn’t looking so he wouldn’t rat her out.

“Ok, I believe we are done.” She smiled at Malfoy, and he just looked the other way.

He walked over to each cauldron ,stared at it and rolled his eyes. He handed out the grades, well he really threw them at the students.

Finally he appeared at hers.

“Hmmmm….. He glanced at again …Perfect”
Malfoy looked astonished.

“What is added in this?”

She was done for.

“A drop of dragon’s blood.”

“Tell the class, why you put a drop of dragon’s blood in the potion”

She thought she was going to faint.

“It helps to preserve the body an extra fifty years. “
Ella glanced back down at her cauldron.

“Correct.”
“100/100, for Greene and Malfoy.”

She could hear them whisper, “He complimented a Gryffindor?” “What is with her?”

“Well , Greene I am clearly impressed .” Said Malfoy

“I don’t need your satisfaction , Draco.” Ella looked at Malfoy in disgust.

Malfoy moved closer to Ella, and whispered in her ear .

“Keep telling yourself that.”

Out of the two of them, only he smiled while she shuddered.

He walked over to talk to some Slytherins, while she cleaned up.

Ella, always could tell if someone was staring , so it wasn’t nothing new when she turned around to see the smug look of a pig faced Slytherin.

She sized up Ella, and Ella laughed.

“What exactly are you laughing at?” Pansy Parkinson said in an evil tone.

“Draco” Ella called out to Malfoy, who looked at Ella and Pansy in puzzlement.

“You might want to take your pig friend to the trough, she seems hungry, or maybe she just wants to lie with filth”

Draco and the other Slytherins began to snicker, while Pansy’s face turned beat red .

Ella turned and began to clean up.
She poured the after Death Potion in her vile and labeled it correctly.
Then she turned in her detailed notes, and worked on clean up right until the bell rang.

“Greene, up here please.”

She walked up to the desk, and began.

“Yes, Professor.”

“Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s, 7 pm.”
“Don’t be late.”
“Do I meet you here ?”
“Yes”

“You surprise me, Miss. Greene.” Snape for once in his Hogwarts career seemed pleased.

“What did he say to you??” Ron said eagerly.

“He wants to give me private lessons” Ella said with a large grin

“WHAT!” Every Gryffindor who was around was astonished.

The next classes didn’t seem to interest Ella; all she did was keep Potion’s on her mind.
Even when nasty skrewts were scaring everyone in Professor Hagrid’s class, she seemed calm. Tomorrow was Tuesday and she had transfiguration with the Ravenclaws and History of Magic, with the ghost teacher. She groaned .

She would have to wait the entire day for her private lesson.

Later, in the common rooms , Hermione spoke up.

“That Snape is up to something.”

“Well, even so the extra lessons will help.” Ella said looking up from her potions text book.

“That means almost every day of the week , you will have lessons with Snape.” Ron and Harry looked back and forth from Ella to Hermione.

“In Salem, I had potions every day for upward to two hours a day.”
“They wanted everyone to have a well rounded education , but they knew I enjoyed it and I often got in trouble in my other classes.”

“I’ll be fine.” And with that Ella ended the conversation.

When everyone went to bed, Harry and Ella were the only ones left in the comfy armchairs.

“So , You and Draco…” Harry didn’t want to push it, but he had to ask.

“ Absolutely not Harry.” Ella stared right into Harry’s eyes.
“Ok, ok didn’t mean to push you , don’t want you to give me the same look you gave to Hermione” He chuckled.

“I don’t want to sound like I’m being, well you know.”

“I know.” Harry spoke.

She read a bit, and said “ I’m off the bed , long day tomorrow .”
“Yep” , Harry seemed by distant.

“Harry I know you have your friends, and they are quite wonderful, but if you need someone to talk to , I’m quite the night owl .” Ella smiled and walked up the stairs.

She crawled into bed, and fell into a peaceful slumber.

Your best chapter to date! I love how Ella interacts with the different Hogwarts' characters. She fits right in. I like how she is able to handle herself with Malfoy and put Pansey in her place. Too perfect! I also think Harry is a little sweet on her and she on him... a little private time might be in order. Mind, she did also like the looks of Diggory, and he is presently unattached... But then... there's also Malfoy!

I like the passion you have given Ella for potions. I can't wait for this particular story line to develop, especially since she is a gryffindor, and well, Snape is Snape! I'm wondering what Snape is up to and what he's going to be teaching during Ella's extra classes. I also wonder how Hermione is going to take being number two...

Oh, I almost forgot the letter from Ellie's parents... it was too cute. Isn't it like a parent to ruin a good breakfast with a final threat of discipline for bad grades?

Hello Heather. Nice work. I very much enjoy your post. I have to say I am looking forward to Jenny coming to Hogwarts. I wonder if Ella tries out for Quidditch next year. If the Tournament wasn't going on, she could have tried out this year. I don't like it that she has to have Malfoy for a partner. And speaking of potions, Kartie brings up an interesting quandry. I was thinking that Hermione wouldn't mind Ella, out thinking and out potioning her, but for the fact that Ella didn't keep strictly to her potions book. This might be what gets her if it is a problem for Hermione.
I wonder if Harry will take Ella up on her offer of talking if he needs to.

Chapter 6


Transfiguration, yuck. Ella thought as she walked out of Professor McGonagall classroom. Everyone but Hermione , felt the same way. The day went on and classes became more and more hard. “OWLS are next year, and we must prepare you!” The class groaned as Mrs. Sprout, gave out more homework. Ella heard Hermione whisper to Ron, “A little homework never hurt anyone.”

“Ella, do you know who Mad Eye is?” Ron asked. “I’ve heard of him” Ella kept pace with Ron and Harry as they walked into class.

“The Unforgivable curses.” Moody said in a grave tone.


Ella shuddered. She knew those by heart. Neville who sat beside her looked as though he was struck with lighting.

She watched in horror as one by one these curses were used on a harmless spider. She wanted to cry. She patted Neville on the back as he bravely stood and named “Cruciatus”. Then Moody told the class about AVADA KEDAVRA

“The only known survivor of this curse, is sitting in this classroom”

Ella and the rest of the class stared at Harry. It was then that Ella truly felt bad for Harry, she could tell he never wanted to be a celebrity.

The bell rang , for supper and for that Ella was thankful.
As dinner came , Ella saw a pattern. “ You guys really hate Malfoy”
“ Ummmm yeah !” they all said in unison.

“ Ella , did Salem teach like Moody?” “ Did Wizards rage war against eachother??” Ron said eagerly.

Hermione butted in.

“ Ronald , if you would pay attention to professor Binn you would know about the American Civil War.”

He looked at Ella with a puzzled look, “ Slaves?”

Ella interjected.

“ There were wizard slave owners, they were more evil then the muggle ones.”
Ella spoke as if she was ashamed.

"Many African American state that the owner would yell “ CRUCITOUS” and then they said it felt like hot knives piercing their body. “ There is proof they also used the imperious , so the slaves would not take breaks , and keep working” " Muggles didnt believe them.
“ It was horrible times”

My ,so many times over great grandfather , Edward Greene was America’s Minister of Magic at the time.”

“ He had many meetings with the muggle President Abraham Lincoln, they both came to the agreement that war was needed.”

“ There is still a lot of predjuice over there now.”

“ Like over here?” Said Harry

“ Not like this pure blood mania” as Ella nodded to the Slytherin table.
“ Race.”

Ella looked at her watch and saw that it was ten till seven.

“ Got to go!” She gathered her things and ran to the dungeons.


She opened the door and walked in, she sat down and took out her notes, quills and cauldron and waited.

Snape walked in, looking annoyed. He went to the front of the room, took out his wand and began speaking .

“I’ve offered you lessons in the art of potion making, only because I believe you have a gift.” “If I find I am wrong, these extra lessons will stop.” Snape spoke in a soft tone.

“Lets get started” Snape looked at Ella with squinted eyes.

She brewed and brewed and took down such detailed notes, her hand began to cramp.

She soaked in everything he said.

“Ella, flatten the berry, but be sure the juice goes directly in the cauldron.”

“Professor, the darn berry juice, goes everywhere when I try to flatten it , why cant I pierce it ,then drain?”

“Flattening the berry releases the seeds , which is needed”
“Ella, please call it a Mortonic berry , and not a darn berry ”

Ella began to laugh.

A smile came upon Snape’s face and he too began to laugh.

He grabbed the berry and showed her how to take a clamp and flatted it just right.

“Ahem”

Snape and Ella jumped in surprise.

“Severus, In all my years of working with you, I have never heard you laugh.”

“It was pleasant, do it more” Dumbledore said smiling.

“Hello Headmaster” Snape greeted him.

“Ella , my dear , how are your classes?”

“Good , sir.”

“Well, you should be honored, Professor’s only offer private lessons if and only if the student has a gift, and this professor has never offered private lessons.”

“I am very thankful”

“Good” Dumbledore turned around and walked out .

“Now , back to that darn berry!” Ella said.

Snape shook his head, and they went back to work.


It was nearly Ten thirty, when she hopped in the portrait hole to the Gryffindor common room.

To her surprise it seemed like all of her classmates were up, waiting for her arrival.


“How was it?” Seamus asked.

“Fine, it was fun”

“FUN?” Neville spoke.

“Yes, Neville, Snape does have a sense of humor.”

“Its deep in there , but he has it” Ella smiled.

“No way, don’t believe it.” Ron said shaking his head.

“Well the party is over, I’m tired .” Ella was the first to walk into the dorms.

The Tri wizard tournament was on its way. Dumbledore had announced earlier that at the end of October , Beauxbatons Academy and Durmstrang were the schools coming to participate. With thoughts on the Tri wizard tournament on her mind , she finally drifted asleep.

Oh God, its morning already? Ella thought as her alarm went off. She cracked her neck and stretched her back and got ready. She and the rest of the ladies fought over the mirrors in the bathroom.
Her stomach , began to rumble and when her looks satisfied her enough she ran down the steps to eat.

She found a seat next the Weasley twins and started eating.


“Ella , my dearest how is your intimate lessons with Snape going?”

“Georg..e, sto..p it!” Ella tried to say while laughing.

“Its going great, I have you know!”

Then the screeches of owls were heard, and everyone looked up.

A smaller owl dropped a single letter in front of Ella’s plate.

She recognized it as Jenny’s handwriting and opened it frantically.


Ella,
I have news. I’ve met someone. He is amazing! I don’t know how to describe this whirlwind I have fallen into, but I love every minute of it. I can not say his name, but I promise Ella in time I can tell you. I talk to him about you constantly. Oh and before I go, please don’t say anything to mom and dad.

As she got up, Harry Potter was staring at a letter he had received.
