James looked at the clock on the wall of the Hospital Wing and jumped. It was seven o’ clock already – and he had come there at four. “Time’s flied, hasn’t it?” He asked Lily, who was laughing at a joke he had just narrated. Her cheeks were glowing with pleasure. “Yes, it has,” she said with a smile.

“Padfoot, Moony and Wormtail will murder me,” he said. “‘Wormtail’ – or whatever you call him – might not have the courage, and Moony’s too decent to murder you,” Lily said reasonably. “And Padfoot probably is in love with you too much to do that.” James laughed. He had had an amazing time which was, of course, understandable; and judging by Lily’s expression, she’d had a great time too. He rose to his feet.

“Madam Pomfrey will be up in no time, pestering you with more potions,” he said. She had forced Lily to take at least four different potions in the time he had been there. Before she knew what he was doing, he had taken her hand and kissed it. For a second, Lily looked coldly at him. Then she decided to let it go. After all, she would have been bored to death if he hadn’t been there. She shook her head disbelievingly.

“And some would say that James Potter doesn’t have a bit of nerve in him,” she said, with a smile. James had suddenly gone rigid. “Uh – Are you okay?” Lily asked concernedly. “Who said I didn’t have a bit of nerve in me?” He asked. Lily mentally kicked herself for having said that. Of course, Snape had said that earlier to her, when she had tried to tell him to try and be nice to ‘that Potter kid.’ If she told him that, he would go hexing Snape again.

“No one said that,” she said firmly but James didn’t budge. “Who did?” He asked again. Lily knew he wouldn’t leave her until he had the answer – There seemed only one way to get things right. She would have to tell a tiny white lie. “I said that,” she said. “Going to hex me, Potter?”

His face relaxed. He laughed. “Not in the bowels of Madam Pomfrey’s Lair,” he said, winking. Without realizing it, she smiled. She couldn’t help it. He could be great at times. “You had better go before Padfoot decides he doesn’t love you that much after all,” Lily told him. “Just do me a favour – Tell my friends I’m here.”

James nodded. “I won’t forget to,” he said. “Bye.” He turned back when he reached the door and smiled at her.

“You can go, I’ll be stuck here all day tomorrow too,” she said, sticking her tongue out at him.

“I think I saw Snivellus,” Sirius whispered in James’ ear who quickly whipped out his wand. Lupin clicked his tongue very impatiently and loudly put down his book. Peter craned his neck eagerly.

Sure enough, seconds later they saw Snape emerging form behind a rosebush. His greasy hair was touching a piece of parchment in his hand. James and Sirius took a moment to decide which spell to use, then both flicked their wands together and he was hanging in the air. That was what they liked to do most to him – let him hang in the air upside-down. Lupin looked around anxiously, secretly hoping that Lily would arrive on the scene. But she didn’t so he buried his face in his book.

“How are you, Snivellus?” Sirius said loudly. Snape kicked the air uselessly, swearing. A small crowd of people gathered around. Then a gentle but very firm voice said, “Let him down this instant,” Heads turned to gape as Cloyre Timhook appeared on the screen.

She had obviously returned from Quidditch practice, for she was carrying her broom over her shoulder, her large, navy blue eyes hidden beneath black, shining curtains of hair as always. She was the best Seeker in the school after James and he often wondered how she saw the snitch through those curtains of dark hair. Many boys turned their attention to her, gawking. She didn’t seem to notice though. Probably, she was too used to it. Her Prefect badge gleamed on her Slytherin robes.

“I said let him down,” she said again, as calm as ever. James’ face expressed nothing but dislike. Sirius, however, raised an eyebrow. “You don’t need to waste your beauty on old Snivellus, Timhook,” Sirius said loudly and coldly. Cloyre didn’t reply. Instead, she turned to James. “If you need more persuasion, James, I can always contact Lily, you know,” she said mildly, her tone cheerful, but here was something in her voice that suggested she was blackmailing him.

“Don’t make me curse you, Timhook,” James said angrily, clenching his teeth – He wasn’t going to take cheek from her. He swore something particularly nasty and next moment he was flying through the air. He landed five feet away, bound in ropes. Before Sirius could act, the same happened to him. Snape fell into the ground. But, apparently, it wasn’t Cloyre who had hexed Sirius and James.

She merely shrugged, and then turned to everyone else. “Clear away, all of you – Now.” It seemed nobody dared to disobey her because the crowd rapidly began to disperse.

With a flick of her wand, Cloyre released Sirius and James. Snape seemed to have fallen really hard and was probably unconscious. Cloyre made her way to where the two Marauders stood haughtily.

“James,,” she began, taking a deep breath. “I know Slytherin and Gryffindor have never gotten on very well, and I never expect that we’ll be friends, seeing that both of us are on the Quidditch teams for our houses. But please stop doing this. You’re the Head Boy, James,” she added, looking at him. Her manner could even affect James sometimes. He flushed too.

Cloyre turned to Sirius, her eyes flashing suddenly. “Incidentally, Sirius, I have a perfect right to waste my ‘beauty’ on anyone I want to, so thanks for the suggestion, but no thanks. You can do your detention with James in the dungeons. Four o’ clock today.”

She turned and saw that Snape was nowhere to be seen. Sighing, she left. For the first time ever, she wished she hadn’t been a Slytherin – The House had given her a reputation for evil that she didn’t have. But then she was determined and even in her never-wavering calm there was a sort of cunning – The Sorting Hat couldn’t have helped putting her into another house.

Oh, but Jameswas the best seeker at Hogwarts, Emma, even though he played Chaser on the Gryffindor Team.
