As the first day of the new school year drew to a close, Harry and Ron walked quickly up to the Gryffindor common room, despite their tired feet, having had a very long day, ending with a typically unpleasant potions class with Snape. The only small favour being that they no longer shared their class with the Slytherins.
They quickly deposited their bags in the dormitory, and managed to rush back through the crowded and noisy common room almost unnoticed due to the throng of students complaining about the mountains of homework already set, and wils speculation over the new Defence against the dark arts teacher, due to arrive the next morning.
As they exited the common room and the door swung closed behin them, the quiet surrounded them, and they were finally free to discuss what had been weighing on their minds all day. Yet they were both silent.

Harry observed Ron's anxious expression, and crinkled forehead, indicating just how worried he was. Harry waited for Ron to speak first, for he was still unsure about what had happened that morning, and was waiting for Ron to explain things better.

Ron looked sideways as if suddenly noticing Harry's silence, and his ears began to redden. He hesitated then finally began to speak, very quietly, and with a rather sheepish tone.

"Well, i was up early as i needed to check on pigwidgeon after the stupid thing flew into the window yesterday, and i saw hermione in the common room...
Can you believe she was reading already? I mean the classes hadnt even started and she was already sitting there memorizing arithmancy for her first class.." He paused at Harry's glance. Coughed lightly, and returned to his story.

"We were just talking, and well, we're getting along pretty well at the moment, and well, anyway, she seemed fine, and then she got this really bizarre glassy look to her eyes, kind of like she'd been stunned, and then mumbled something and just slumped over in her chair."
"i thought maybe she fainted, but as i was trying to wake her up she just sort of stared into space - it was terrifying. I didnt know what to do, so i just picked her up and was running towards the hospital wing when peeves starting pelting us with ink bombs again and i was yelling at him, and then MaGonagal came round the corner and started to shush me, then saw Hermione."

They were nearing the hospital wing now, and Ron was growing paler, as if dreading what he was going to find. Harry was beginning to feel a horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach also.

He looked at Ron in an encouraging way, although he had heard most of the rest of the story during their lunch hour, when ron had tried to explain why they couldn't visit Hermione then.

"McGonagal just looked at her in such a suprised way, and started walking really fast beside me, staring at Hermione and asking if she'd said anything at all. I was just sort of telling her what im telling you really fast and then when we got to the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey made me lie put her on a bed, then she an magonogal looked at each other in this really weird way and Madam Pomfrey shooed me out saying not to come back till after school, and to say Hermione had the flu and was contagious so we couldnt visit..."

Harry had been listening closely, and now asked "do you think she was petrified?" remembering how hermione had been petrified in their second year by the basilisk.
Ron shook his head, no she looked different, all pale and ill, but her eyes were still wide open. He seemed to shake his head to get rid of the image, and they continued walking.

"You don't think she's..."
"NO" Harry replied firmly - they would have come to get us if it was really bad... Wouldnt they?"

They approached the hospital wing, and after a moments hesitation, Harry knocked on the door.

Chapter 2:

The door to the hospital wing opened with a creak, and Madam Pomfrey observed the two of them rather wearily (she tended to give harry this looks as he seemed to visit her so often with some injury or another).
"Come on in Mr Potter, Mr.Weasley."
They entered each suddenly asking many questions at once...

"how is she..."
"is she..."
"can we see her?"
"is she awake?"

"sssh now boys", a figure now emerged from madam pomfreys office, and when she came slowly into the light, they were rather suprised to see Professor Trelawney approach them.
She spoke in not her usual floaty manner, but rather a more serious tone than she usually employed. They had not seen her since her removal by Professor Umbridge the previous year, yet she obvouosly had remained at Hogwarts.
"You may see her but only for a moment my dears"
Madam Pomfrey interrupted. "Please be gentle, she is rather fragile. She... Well I think Miss GRanger would rather explain this herself. It is a very.. personal...matter.." She trailed off into silence and directed them to a bed at the very emd of the ward with the white curtains drawn around the bed.

Ron and Harry rushed forward to the curtained area. Harry slowed as he reached the curtain, nodding to Ron to go in first, he thought perhaps Ron might want a minute with just Hermione. But Ron had gone (if possible) even paler, and his eyes pleaded with Harry to see just how bad whatever it was, was, before he entered.

With a nod of understanding to his friend, he stepped around the curtain, and saw Hermione.

Chapter 3:

Hermione looked up, and said softly, "Hey Harry".
Harry leaned back to motion to Ron to come in.
He walked gingerly into the curtained area, and his breath rushed out all at once when he saw her sitting up in bed, still very pale, but she smiled faintly at him, and said, "Hi Ron. Mconogal told me you brought me here", then rather more shyly, "Thanks".
Ron was quickly turning from pale to rather pink, but just nodded, he still looked worried but sat down on the edge of Hermione's bed.

"Harry can you get me some water from Madam Pomfrey?"
Harry nodded and left to get some water.
As we walked back into Hermione's 'room' he saw a tear run down Ron's face, and Hermione gave him a quick hug. Ron's ears were not almost scarlet, but he looked pleased, and definitely less worried.

"How are you feeling Hermione? Harry asked, placing the water on the bedside table.
"well, a littlw odd, and very confused...." She was quiet for a moment, then continued.
"I'm not quite sure what happened, i remember talking to Ron, and then it was like a dream, and then, nothing, i woke up here, and i had been here for a few hours madam pomfrey said, but i hadnt been asleep...." She took a big breath, and looked nervously at the two of them, her best friends, and hoped they would understand this, as she was having trouble accepting it.

"McGonogal, came straight in when she heard i was awake, and... and she said she was almost positive i had been in a...well, a trance".

"You were hypnotised?" Ron looked bemused.
"No" said Harry, because it was all starting to fit into place, Ron's description of how it had happened, Hermione's eyes going all glassy, as he remembered what had happened to Professor Trelawney in thier third year, and then, though slightly incredulous he said, almost as a question.. "You had a... Vision?"

Ron looked at Harry in shock, but Hermione simply nodded, and said rather sheepishly, "I guess i was wrong after all, maybe there is such a thing as a true seer"!

Chapter Four:

"So, you had a...vision...of the future?" Ron asked tentatively.
Hermione looked at them both to gage their reactions, and seeing they were only concernec and interested, she continued.
"Yes".
"Bizarre!" Ron said. "What did you see?"
He and Harry looked at her intently, and time semed to stop as they waited for her answer.

Hermione opened her mouth to answer them, but at that moment, the three of them heard footsteps and an odd clicking sound aproaching the bed, and drawing back the curtains, Harry saw Professor Dumbledore, and walking behind him, Firenze.

"Hello Miss Granger. I trust you are feeling better?"
"Yes Sir" Hermione replied.
Dumbledore spoke again. "Professor McGonogal notified me immediately haveing spoken to you, and i thought perhaps speaking with firenze would ease your apprehensions, and perhaps he will be able to help you with your questions".
Ron and Harry shared a confused expression, and were desperate to hear more about Hermione's vision, but she simply said "Thank you" to Professor Dumbledore.

Hermione then turned to Harry and Ron, and gently asked if she could speak with Firenze alone for the moment until she better understood what was going on. "I'm having some trouble interpreting what i saw". They nodded and she hugged Harry, and then Ron, whispering in his ear "Don't worry".

Dumbledore turned to face Harry and Ron as they left the hospital wing. "Miss Granger will be back with you in classes tomorrow, Madam Pomfrey would like to observe her overnight to make sure she is rested. Go back to your common room now, and i'm sure you know to keep this matter between you." Harry and Ron nodded in agreement and left the hospital wing. They could hear the sound of Firenze's haunting voice as they left, but could not make out what he and Hermione were discussing.

Chapter 5:

Harry and Ron were quiet as they made their way back to the Gryffindor tower, both thinking about what they had learnt.
The atmosphere was much more relaxed than the journey they had made in the opposite direction less than an hour before, as they now knew Hermione was ok.

They both knew Hermione would want to tell Ginny herself, so on returning to the common room, they told her Hermione just had a 24 hour flu and would be back in the morning. She looked happy to know Hermione would be ok and went back to chatting to her 5th year friends.

The common room was now less crowded, and Harry and Ron sat at a table in their favourite spot by the fireplace pulling out their potions books to begin a particularly nasty assignment from Snape.
"Can you believe weve got all this work already. I thought OWLS were bad, but these NEWTS are going to be awful!"

Harry grimaced in agreement and they set to work again, the silence only occasionally broken by Ron's mutterings about Snape being an evil git.

A few hours passed, and the common room was almost empty as Harry put down his quill. He looked over at Ron and burst out laughing. Ron looked up in suprise then caught sight of himself in the large mirror above the fireplace. He had been absentmindedly chewing on the end of his quill and his lips and teeth were now stained with the violet ink he'd borrowed from Ginny. He tried to look at Harry sternly but gave up and burst out laughing as well.

"Hermione stops me when i start doing this! You're useless Harry!
They sat and laughed together and began to pack up their books, and walk towards the staircase to the dormitory.

"I'm impressed you didnt mention to Hermione she's been wrong about divination all this time" Harry said lightly to Ron as they made their way up the stairs.
"Well, I didn't want to get 'A Granger'"
"A What?" HArry asked bemused.
"You know, that look she gives you right before she tells you off for not doing your homework, or when you get a detention..."
He trailed off as Harry began laughing again, and joined in.
"A perfect way to describe it mate. We all know that look!"

Hermione lay awake much of the night slowly digesting all she had learned from Professor Dumbledore, and Firenze.
She was still unsure about the acuracy of her inner sight, and whether it was a fluke, or if she would be seeing frequent flashes from now on, yet Dumbledore had not seemed extremely suprised by the news. And did not seem to doubt that she was having a true vision.

She was dreading facing Ron and Harry, and desperate to talk to Ginny who would no doubt look at it in a much more logical way, but still... Firenze had told her she must make the moral choice about who she revealed her sight to. Some would be glad to hear aspects of their future, positive or negative - others would be greatly distressed - and what if they didn't believe her.

She made the decision not to reveal her vision to Harry, Ron, or Ginny until she saw it happen. She knew her vision would occur in real time before the end of the week. If it came true, then, well...she would have to tell everyone about her second vision...

...(Continued)

Except her second vision wasnt a vision as such. It was like someone just dropped the information into her head -she KNEW it was true, and it was followed fleetingly by an image of the subjects of that knowledge - appearing to fulfill her prediction.

She was lost. After years of condemning divination as guesswork, she was unsure as to whether she should doubt her own mind. She knew no-one was placing these thoughts in her, or reading her mind, yet it was all a little tooodd to fully comprehend.

What had Firenze said? "I always knew you were intelligent Hermione. Yet I had hoped you would not discover your gift until you could understand it. Even i must agree with Sybill on this matter, this sight could be a great burden to you, should you not fully understand it, and use it wisely. Take care. You must choose carefully towhom you reveal your gift for others may exploit you... The crescent moon watches you as the stars align".

As usual she did not understand his last vailed comment, but she recognised how wise his words were. Dumbledore had reiterated these also. He had said to be careful of her friends, which suprised her. Harry and Ron would never expolit her. But seeing her puzzled face he had replied "MIss Granger you know how damaging a secret can be, but at times the truth can damage beyond repair".

Dumbledore looked at her closely, and she felt he saw right through to her soul and instinctively knew she was already keeping something to herself. Perhaps she should confide her second prediction to Dumbledore. But.
NO.
I've made my decision, she thought to herself. I must find out if my sight is true.

Chapter 7

Harry, Ron, and Ginny walked down to the Great Hall together for breakfast this morning. Ron walking extremely fast as if he was in a great hurry to see someone.
Harry and Ginny fell behind and chatted happily, speculating who the new DADA teacher would be.
"We've got Defence against the dark arts first thing this morning" he told Ginny.
"OOh. Meet me in the common room at break for all the gossip! I can't wait to find out!"
They were approaching the great hall now, and entering they took their seats next to a disappointed looking Ron at the Gryffindor table.
"Don't worry Ron, Madam Pomfrey will be fussing over her, she wont be long!" Ron looked at Ginny incredulously as if he was going to deny he had been waiting for Hermione, but hten seemed to think better of it and helped himself to some more bacon.

The Great Hall began to fill up, and eventually Hermione entered, she walked over and gave them a big smile, hugged Ginny quickly, and sat down opposite Ron.
"Stop looking at me like im going to keel over Ron!" She said with a laugh and he smiled back as she stole some of his bacon.

"Anyway", Ginny said, looking at them all, "Last chance to place bets on who the new Defence against the Dark arts teacher is. Harry already promised me you'd all come and fill me in at first break!"
Hermione looked thoughtful. "I really don't know who to expect" she said.
Looking at his watch, Ron replied "Well we'd better hurry or we'll get detention from whoever it is!"
"See you later Ginny"
"Bye Harry"

The classroom was empty as they entered and took their seats behind Parvati and Lavender, Harry taking the empty seat next to Neville.
"Who do you think it is?" Neville asked. "I wish we could have Professor Lupin back!"
"Me too" Said Harry, meaning it not simply as Neville had, as Lupin had been their best teacher by far the last five years.
"When's the first DA meeting going to be then Harry?"
Harry looked startled, he hadnt considered continuing the DA, but he supposed with Voldemort on the loose the need for training hadn't decreased.
"I guess i'd better check with Dumbledore where we'd be allowed to meet, once we know who the new teacher is".
Hermione had caught the end of the conversation, and chipped win.
"Ooh we should definitely carry on, look how much we learnt last year!"
There were murmers of agreement from the tables around the group, and Hermione nodded with satisfaction.
"I'll put up a notice in the common room when we know more about the first meeting" she declared, as the door opened behind them.

They all whipped around silently, and Ron gasped as his brother Bill walked into the room.
Hermione sat with her mouth agape, and Harry finally let out a chuckle.
"Well I don't think he'll mind helping us with the DA, do you!"
Bill smiled as he walked past them, causing a faint gasp, as Lavender swooned, and Parvati almost fell off her chair in excitement.
Hermione let a loud snort, causing Ron to explode with laughter, and Neville simply looked confused.
Harry leant over and whispered to Neville, "He's Ron's older brother, and he's so cool! An older version of Fred and George!"
Nevilles grin widened, and they felt perhaps this year they might get a little wand action in Defence against the Dark Arts.

"Good Morning class. I'm Professor Weasley", Bill announced with a rather wry grin.
"But you can call me Bill within the class though some of the staff might not approve, Professor makes me feel as old as Binns!"
The class laughed, and those who had not recognized Bill turned and gave Ron a look of recognition, this was the famous oldest Weasley brother.
"Right, well i suppose we should get started then. Spell books open to page 54 and we'll do a quick readthrough and practice the incantation before seeing if you feel up to trying to hex each other. This curse can be extremely useful if you cannot disarm your opponent as they will be unable to grip their wand". They grinned and began to listen as Bill read aloud in his cheerful voice.

As they began to practise frozen finger hex, Bill walked around the room giving pointers, and as he made his way to their area he stopped for a quick chat.
"Why didn't you tell us?!" Hermione asked excitedly.
"I didn't even tell Mum and Dad, only Dumbledore, the staff, and Charlie knew. Thought it would be a fun suprise!"
"It's fantastic!" Ron said. Harry nodded in agreement and smiled.
"Ginny is going to have a heart attack, we've got strict instructions to go straight to her with all the gossip!" Harry could just imagine Ginny's face. "Maybe we should 'forget' to meet her and let her find out for herself". Ron and Bill grinned in conspiracy.

Bill at that moment rushed across the room to assist Dean, as Seamus had managed to turn his fingers into icicles briefly in a bizarre mis-incantation. Once Bill had taught Seamus the countercurse, he glanced at the clock on the wall.
"Time to clear up everyone. If your fingers still feel a bit chilly after an hour run them under really cold water, should do the trick. Good work today everyone. Longbottom, you really got it down at the end there, 10 points to Gryffindor. See you all on Thursday!"

The class erupted in noise again as the Gryffindors filed out, each chattering about how cool DADA was going to be this year, Lavender and Parvati looking distinctly lovestruck. Harry, Ron, and Hermione hung behind to chat a bit more to Bill.
"So you're not working for the Order at the moment?" Ron asked in a whisper.
Bill looked around to check to door was closed, then replied "Well, i wouldn't say that. I'm still doing a few things when i can, and this was a good time to get out of Gringotts, those trolls can be nasty. And i'd rather be nearer home at the moment".
"Bill. would you be willing to help us supervise and teach extra defence classes with the DA? We'll probably have to come up with another name anyway" Harry butted in.
"Of course Harry, i'll be free to teach more advanced defence away from the syllabus, which is a bit too focused on the NEWTS for my liking, but it's still pretty open to interpretation" He finished with his trademark grin.

"What class have you got next? If it's not Snape of McGonogal i'll give you a pass and you should stay and see Ginny's reaction, she's in my next class".
Hermione checked, and replied that they could stay as they only had Binns next class, and no way were these three going to miss Ginny's reaction.
Harry wondered when he'd started to get so happy about the prospect of seeing Ginny, even for a few moments, he knew he wanted to see her smile.

Chapter 9

They decided Bill should go into the small supply room off the classroom, and wait till the class had entered to reveal himself. They waited just by the doorway, in the shadows out of sight and saw as the class ended, Ginny running in with only seconds to spare looking rather bewildered. Why hadn't Harry shown up? He'd promised. Maybe he forgot about me. No, he wouldn't do that, we're friends.

She was distracted by a nudge from Colin Creevey as the door opened at the side of the classroom. Ginny grinned ecstatically as Bill announced "Morning everyone, I'm Professor Weasley". The class all chattered amongst themsleves for a moment, and Harry came out from behind Ginny and tapped her on the shoulder, "We thought maybe you'd prefer to find out for yourself once we knew. Sorry for not turning up. You're not mad are you?" She grinned and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. He was completely floored. Ginny had nevr kissed him, before the last year they had never even hugged. He stood rather stunned as she ignored protocol and ran up to give Bill a quick hug. "Why didn't you tell me! Congratulations! This is going to be so fun!" He laughed, and hugged her, before she ran back to her chair. She turned o her stool to give the three of them a quick wink and to whisper see you at lunch, as Bill called the class to attention, and they began to open their books. Harry, Ron, and Hermione raced off to History of Magic, and managed to sneak in unnoticed. Ernie McMillan gave them a quick wink and passed a note over to Ron. "I heard about your brother. Great news. We'll finally learn something useful without having to break the rules!"

As the class began to drag, Harry finally remembered what had consumed his thoughts just the day before.
He turned to his left where even Hermione had given up on taking notes. "Now you can finally tell us about, your.. you know what", Ron turned and nodded in agreement, he couldn't believe he'd forgotten about it in all the excitement.

Hermione began to look rather awkward, and Ron seemed to sense her unease. "You ARE going to tell us aren't you?"

...(continued)...

Harry could see a typical Ron vs. Hermione bust up on its way, and quickly diverted the argument by giving Ron a significant look over Hermione's shoulder.
"Don't worry Hermione. You don't have to tell us, but it would help us to understand if you told us a little more about it in general, but not your specific vision".
He mouthed the words "She'll give you A Granger" to Ron who half nodded in recognition, and hastily agreed with Harry.
Hermione looked relieved, and looking around to check the rest of the class was otherwise occupied in private conversation, or having a quick nap, she nodded.

"Well Trelawney came rushing in having overheard a conversation, and babbled on about how she knew all along i had the sight but didnt want to force me to expose it. She went on and on till McGonogal came and sent her away thank goodness! McGonogal told me her sister was a seer, so she recognised the signs of progression. Apparantly it's only the first few visions which have such a dramatic effect, and other extremely important visions.

"If i have other visions, or know things, it should be less dramatic as i get used to it. And my understanding of which are important and which are not, should improve. But Trewlaney, McGonogal, Firenze and Dumbledore said the hardest and most important thing to remember is that not everyone wants to know aspects of their future, while other people want to exploit seers."
Hermione continued as they absorbed the information she was now coming to understand.
"I don't even know if I was right in seeing what i did. We could be wrong and I might have just fainted or something, so...
until i know it will really happen, and it was only a silly little thing... I dont want to tell anyone. Then I'll know whether it would be right to share what i saw later." She stopped abruptly, and looked horrified at herself.
"You - you mean you've had more than one vision!?" Ron asked incredulously.
"Just one. I don't want to talk about it though. I didn't even tell Dumbledore. It would just be awful if i was wrong, and had..well, it doesnt matter, we'll have to wait and see i guess. It shouldn't be too long if i'm right."

Chapter 11

Lunch was especially noisy, and the conversations lively at the Gryffindor table that day as news of Professor Weasley spread.
Parvati and Lavender were at the centre of a large group of girls, including several members of Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and Hermione had a sneaking suspicion who they were talking about. She nudged Ginny and they both shared a wry grin. "Why do i think i'll be a little more popular with the 7th year girls from now on?" Ginny said with a laugh.

Chapter 11 (continued)

Harry and Ron were in an animated discussion with Katie Bell, the new Gryffindor Quiddich captain about the upcoming trials that Friday evening.
Hermione and Ginny joined in the conversation.
"Katie, I figure you're going to put Harry back in the teamas Seeker now Umbridge is gone, and i've always wanted to play chaser anyway." Ginny said.
Katie nodded in agreement, "I was going to talk to you about that, you don't need to try out, I know you'll be a great chaser, I saw you shoot some goals past Ron in practices last year" she said with a lighthearted grin in Ron's direction.
"What about beaters?" Harry asked. There had already been some discussion between them over the beaters, as the temporary replacements they'd found last year for Fred and George both felt they'd be more comfortable trying out for Chaser, and had never worked well as a team despite their individual flying talent.
They all looked up and down the table for inspiration.

Chapter 11 (continued again)

"Oh well i guess we'll see who turns up for try-outs, i put a sign up sheet in the common room this morning at break", Katie finally gave up looking assessingly up and down the table. "See you later, Need to see McGonogal about getting the robes ordered" she said standing and waving goodbye to them.
"Hermione was staring into space. Ron and Harry looked at each other with a knowing look. She suddenly seemed to snap out of it, and blushde when she saw them looking at her. "I might know who would be good as beaters, they just signed up for chaser tryouts". Harry and Ron looked at her expectantly, "but i'll leave you to guess" she told them with a grin. Ginny gave them all a bewildered look. "I'll explain on the way back to the common room" Hermione told Ginny, and the two of them said goodbye to Harry and Ron, and made their way out of the hall.

Chapter 12
Harry and Ron were just making their way back up to the common room, when they passed Katie running excitedly out of Professor McGonogal's office. "Oh my god! I was just coming to find you two and Ginny! Professor McGonogal has found us a Chaser!".
"Who?" They asked in unison, and laughed.
"Charlie.....WOOD!" she said and looked at them expectantly.
"As in OLIVER Wood"? Harry asked.
"He's only a first year, I didn't even make the connection in the sorting, but McGonogal has got permission from Dumbledore for us!"
"That's fantastic!" Ron said.
"But we haven't actually asked him yet..." Katie said sheepishly. "Want to come with me?"
"Definitely!" Harry replied.
