Default Writing Resource Links

There are so many websites which offer resources to help you become a better writer. Use them often!

Here are a few important ones:

The Harry Potter Lexicon
Know your HP facts and histories. Jo Rowling herself uses the Lexicon for quick access to accurate information.

Merriam-Webster Online
Online dictionary and thesaurus

Harry Potter and the Mary Sue Litmus Test
What is a Mary Sue and how can you tell if your Original Character is one? Take the HP specific test by Priscilla Spencer, based on the Original Mary Sue Litmus Test by Melissa "Merlin Missy" Wilson.

If you have found a site you've found useful, post a link in this thread. Please don't discuss these resources here. This is just for providing links.

Wink I've got tons more kiddies...Strunk & White might even help you with school work

Oxford I say! Because if you're going to use an English Dictionary...it should be British, wot?

Wondering what Beauxbatons really means? Then wonder no more. French/Spanish/Italian/English in case you want to have Blaise really speak Italian.

Because I don't care who you are...you've got no style unless you've got E.B. White & Strunk's Style. Yes that E.B. White...what do you mean you haven't read Charlotte's Web *(please note the correct use of apostrophe *winks*)*

Want to spice up your story with Latin for characters' names or for spells? The Latin Dictionary and Grammar Aid is a site I, myself, use for my story. You can search in english and prefixes and suffixes in Latin. So have a ball and use it wisely.

If you're drabbling and writing word-counted ficlets, there's a handy site tool for those who don't have or use MS Word.

http://www.spellcheck.net/

This site is a free, online spell-checker with built in word counter.

Exclamation For a limited time ONLY!!!!!!!!!1111111111 LOL

I wonder if anyone reads these things ... Thanks Dean, I'm so going there.

There's a contest going on right now, started today and ends March 15th for anyone who is (I perused the rules) over 18, lives in the U.S. , and most importantly, has a finished manuscript.

Here are the rules.

With instructions on where to enter. If you win you get 5.000 dollars AND a publishing contract with Simon & Shuster. Even if you don't want to win, you can judge entries on the site. So dust off your old manuscripts if you've got them lying around ... and give it a shot, it's only open until March 15th so hurry, if you think you can finish a novel by then, then have at it. And don't forget us when you're rich.
