Hogwarts RPG Name: William Quinn Third | OC Help- Names Several people include original characters in their stories, but some of the names are not very believeable (to both the readers and the author) and may require help in finding the right names for their characters. This is where I'd like to help...
It'd be an understatement for me to say that I like naming Potterverse characters. I love making them, and I'd like to share that with other SS members who are having trouble finding names. Here are a list of names I've created for my own fic, that will give you an idea of names I think would fit nicely in the Potterverse (granted these are American wizard names, but I think they'd be very similar): My Fic:
Patrick Thatcher
William Quinn
Elizabeth Crane
Travis Sweeney
Miranda Pinsley
Gerald Flynn
Benjamin Speckley
Emeritus Thatcher
Jeffrey Flexing
Digory Mediment
Wynona Pistil
Tyler Hewden
Osric Obelus
Eleanor Litmus
Prunella Mott
Patricia Pennipot
Hephaestus Gallows
Andorra Hobbes
Curmudgeon Plumper
Amontus Tidwell
Marcellus Bravura
Edmund Pring
Mittimus Rawling
Edipus Snelling
Geldon Lurgy
Basil Rathbone
Orpheus Staves
Meredith Tuttle
Julius Vexing Other Members:
Lissydove: The surname in Persephone Tergins
Aingil an Speir: The first name (obviously) in Pyramus Malfoy.
Words to Authors:
Try existing names and change the last name. Look up uncommonly used words in the dictionary that fit your character's personality. Latin searches as well as mythology is also a good choice. Remember, when making a name, remember your character's personality.

| Some of our talented members would like to offer their services in helping you name your Original Characters. If you enjoy making OC Names, please post here and offer your services like Dean has done above. You may also post here if you have ideas for OC names and wish to ask other writers/readers if your names are likely to help or hurt your fic.
Remember to be diplomatic and refrain from being overly critical of one another. Rudeness and disrespect will not be tolerated. Any comments which may be construed as an insult or attack will be removed and the poster warned or suspended, depending on severity. |

| Okay....Hey Dean! I know this request isn't much of a "name" for a person but I've been thinking of putting up a rpg and I can't quite settle on a name/title.
The story is mainly about a couple of Hogwarts friends who meet up in the States.
I was thinking of calling it "Dreading Delimmas" but that just sounds wrong.
Any ideas? Or should I just edit this out and post a reply on your awesomeness?

| I came across a name, "Emrys", that I absolutely adore. I've never heard it before, but it's a great boy's name. |

| Yeah, Dean I need some help getting names to fill in some of the blanks in the Hogwarts rosters and stuff. My first fan fic had some pretty dumb names so I really think I need new ones for the next one I want to use. |

| I, for one, can't stand coming up with names, especially first and last because I find it difficult to fit the name into the story without it sounding forced. The original character in my fic is names Dracora Medea. The first name, yes, is a play on Draco and I did that purposely. Medea is Latin for either black (as in the color) or evil. I can't remember which. I've noticed that Rowling uses a lot of ancient Roman and Latin names in her stories that I've found fit quite well in with the wizarding world while some are just simple (as in Katie Bell). I think it has a lot do with with getting over your own insecurities and beating down that inner editor regarding naming your characters. Perhaps the name doesn't sound good right off the bat but the more you write, the more you may think it does actually fit. Throwing words together to make uncommon names does work as well. Just look at Malfoy. Mal=bad, and foy=uh, can't remember that one off the top of my head. Sorry about that. But I'll have to look for that website where I found medea and post it here. It helped me a lot. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: William Quinn Third | Great suggestion, SlytherinSissa. Looking at latin roots or Roman myths are a great place to find suitable names.
I'd just like to let anyone know that this thread is still open to OC Name requests and that I'd be happy to lend a hand in any way I can! |
