After passing through the Golden Gates, you are directed to a desk beside an alarming looking machine. It is here that you will be greeted by a modest group of staff from both the Minister's Office and Ministry Security - don't worry, they don't bite. Here you will receive your Orientation package and staff ID, and you will have your wand weighed.

The machine itself are large and bulky and made of shiny brass. There are tubes and dials, meters and whistles and upon presenting your wand to the wand-weigher, it will be checked by this machine and registered to you.

Once you have done this, you may proceed to the Orientation meeting and exercises.

Simon had gotten the notice of assignment and might have groaned, not he not given himself over to the security side of MLE last year. As it was, wand-weighing was now an all-too-familiar task of his every once in awhile. Or at least overlooking it while others did it. Not a sort of punishment like it had been when he was a YATI and Wes had pulled him into the job for lack of anyone else to do it besides him and Josh.

Speaking of YATI, he was also aware that the dear trainees were now in his former position...when they got here. For now, it was just him at the desk just past the Golden Gates. The man offering a small polite smile as he awaited what was to come. Perhaps he'd be able to get away once he was sure the others could be trusted not to make a mess of things.

He did want to keep an eye out for any hints of trouble.

First day of the job orientation process, Charles had already showed signs of nervousness. He got up early than most and made sure he triple checked everything before he went out of his house.He wore his best grey suit today and a black tie to go along with his sleek, tidy kept look.He straightened his tie once more and followed the others in so he could have his wand weighed. And when it was his turn next, he presented his wand as instructed. He was then given his new DMAC staff ID pass and the orientation package right after he was cleared to go through. Charles smiled to himself mainly, wondering what could be in store for newcomers like him later.

Tala ran a hand through her long blonde hair as she passed through those golden gates and toward a machine which... Well, did not look friendly in the slightest. Sweet Merlin, what did that thing even do? Was it going to... Scan her like something in a Muggle Science Fiction movie? Or maybe magically check her to make sure she was supposed to be there? Whatever the thing did, Tala doubted she would enjoy it.

There was a man standing nearby and Tala supposed he was a member of the security team, he had that sort of look out him anyway. Clearing her throat, she made her way to him and smiled politely. "Um, Hi, excuse me, dude, but um, this is where I sign in, yeah?" Tala asked in her slight Southern California accent.

.... She'd called him dude, she'd promised herself she wouldn't do that. Damn it.

SHE WAS READY TO BE BACK TO WORK.

Of course Lex had opted to work for most of her winter break so it never felt like she'd actually left but it was good to officially be back in the swing of things. Rainey was already setting her hard at work, being the security that made sure the event went smoothly. She was all over this, he had absolutely nothing to worry about. By the time the night was out everyone would be tacked with a badge and on their way to greatness.

"Hello," he greeted in return before nodding at her nervous question. "Yep, you're in the right place," he assured her. Ah, the range of new persons set to graze the dark stoned walls of the ministry in the new year.

It was then Alexa came to join him. "Yes it is," Simon agreed even though it had thrown him for a loop the first time he had dealt with it from the law end. "If you grab one of those welcome bags for this lady, I will show you." It was all relatively simple, but it was still best to show rather then try to just explain it. With that he turned back to his current customer.

"May I have your name...and see your wand?" he asked, or rather instructed as he held out his hand, palm up.

Chelle walked up and glanced around. Her first night! She still couldn't believe she'd gotten a job at the ministry. Sure, she was going to miss her little salon in France, but this... This just seemed amazing. She smiled over at the security guard and looked around again, still in awe at the idea of being involved here. The fifty year old look again to the guard and the few people in front of her, ready to get started already. She stayed where she was, just waiting patiently... Oh she'd wished Puck would be able to come with her... Then again her husband would probably be bored at this kind of thing. She sighed and just waited her turn.

Well, this guy wasn't intimidating, he was... Well, kind of reliable looking, and Tala let herself relax as she stood before him. It would do no good to be a bundle of anxiety, she had to seem calm and assured. She thought briefly of her cool, controlled father and wished for a moment she were a bit more like him and a bit less like her papa Ken, who was, well... A surfer dude and would have had no place here.

Tala watched quietly as the man and young woman spoke. She looked familiar, something about the edges of her mouth and the style of her hair, but Taladona couldn't place where she had seen the young woman, and she was usually so good at faces. Hm. The blonde, so caught up in her little attempt to place the girl had totally zoned out and just managed to stop herself from reacting as the man spoke to her.

"Oh, Taladona Jordan." She smiled as she dug into her little satchel, bringing out her well taken care of alder wand and handing it to the man. "Um.. Is my wand going in that thing?" It was probably a very silly question, but Tala needed to know, especially because her wand was precious and that... Machine- thingy, whatever it was, looked like it might break the wand in two.

And if it did? The ministry was so paying for her new one.

Oh man, she was gonna get to see this bad boy in action? Epic. Lex gave Simon a firm nod then turned to get an orientation package from the large pile. The young woman was really quick about it too because she didn't wanna miss the moment the machine got to work and could already hear him asking her to cough up her wand.

"Here you go, welcome to the Ministry!" She beamed as she extended the package. The name...sounded familiar but in all the excitement of finally being back at work she couldn't really place it. Nothing to do about that for now and especially not when there were questions to be answered.

"Sure is." In response to the wand going into the machine. "No worries, I'm sure they've used this thing maybe a million times by now--which could either mean it's really good....or looking to break down any minute now." ....Might not have been the most reassuring thing to say in hind sight....yeah...might not have been at all. "But we have Maintenance peeps who'd be glad to fix it--even if I don't think any came prepared to work tonight..." Huh.

So maybe she'd just drop this line of conversation all together. "Fire it up, Simon." Let's see what it could do.

With Simon taking this first lady, Lex waved the other up to the desk as well. There were two of them currently here, no reason the line needed to stretch for miles. There would be even less reason when the others finally got here.

"Step right up and we can have you nicely processed and on your way."

As in SHE would be the one to process her, taking the name AND USING THE FANCY MACHINE. Was Simon done with it yet? What was taking him so long. Might have been the lady. She didn't look all that thrilled about handing over her wand to begin with.

Honoria P. Borges was excited. Nervous, but excited. She had no idea what to expect from the orientation. With her trusty notebook in hand, she click click clicked down the way, to where the other new ministry workers stood. In her three inch heels, she stood at 6'4. Towering over everyone else. Not that this was unusual anyways. Any woman at her height is bound to get some stares.
Honoria took a deep breath, and her usual smile crossed her face as she waited patiently for her turn.

Linda was feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement in regards to being a part of the Ministry of Magic. Linda had spent quite some time on choosing her outfit. She wasn't really into dressing fancy but she wanted to look neat and presentable. Linda's trusty camera bag was around her shoulder and had been bewitched so that her camera, wand, notebook and some other items were able to fit in there. She waited patiently in line until it was time for her to be called up.

Jory was ready to be back. Or not really. He wasn't sure. He was in a strange mood today but not that unusual of a mood to be the spoil sport of the Ministry Orientation. He passed through the Gate, looking for familiar faces. Sophie? Daichi? Oakey? Simon? Hardly had Simon's name ran through his head when he noticed the Auror with Alexa and an odd machine.

"Alexa.'' Jory smiled at his old schoolmate when his turn came in the line. "Looking forward to another year?" Jory missed being a YATI, he would not lie but it was great to be out in the real world with the title of 'Auror' attached to his name at times. "Nice toy, Simon. You went shopping to get it without me?'' It was just his little attempt at a joke. He wasn't too good with those.

Instead of stopping right off at the security booth, Sky had taken a lap around the place. And to be honest, she was ready to slap the thing with a big ol' 'L' for LAME. Seriously, where was the party? It was mostly just obstacle courses.

"Are they training these new people to take our jobs or something?" This was of course aimed at Simon and Alexa, as indicated by the motion of her (still upright) glass of water she'd nabbed from the lunch table. "Hope you guys enjoy obstacle courses and canned questions," she continued to the others at the table after taking a sip of aforementioned water. Surely they didn't, right? Surely they thought it was as lame as she did.

Peggy made her way through the golden gates and was greeted by the staff there. Smiling and trying to grasp the situtation she handed her wand so it could be weighed and recieve her orientation packaged and ID. She was pretty excited to be part of the Ministry! Well she was just going to be gift shop attendant but that was still pretty thrilling! Ha!

Finally she commenced to make her to the actual orientation, there was already a lot of people here. People she's never met or seen before. Wow. It was like the first day of school all over again, but no worries her nerves were as calm as her cat. Well sometimes. "Hello, I be Peggy." Mhm, yeah she waved as she passed people by. Yes Peggy, not Margaret. Well yes her name was technically Margaret but she opted for Peggy. Not Piggy, PEGGY. Talk about awkward.

Kai fussed with her appearance more today than she had in quite awhile. First day orientation, first impressions and meetings.....she had to dress like a professional and not a muggle vagabond.......which was rather depressing in her book. You just couldn't beat a pair of jeans and a tank top in her personal opinion. Instead, she chose a robe-like dress of multiple colors that faded into one another. Green to blue to purple, shiny was pretty and it was nicer than the jeans that she had been wearing earlier. She even did her hair and pulled her feathery locks up away from her face.

After taking a quick scan of the room, she placed herself into the queue with the rest. She watched the machine working on other peoples wands and mused to herself. It almost seemed like some muggle steampunk sort of creation and its look intrigued her. She was a bit loathe to present her wand to be checked by the contraption. She didn't have anything to hide, but her wand was an heirloom and she was a little protective of it.

First event of her new job. FIRST. Lynley arrived, looking super casual but smartly dressed as ever, her brown eyes squinting at everyone who had clearly overdressed for the occasion.

And she had to suppress an eye roll.

Lynley was professional, after all.

The brunette made her way over to the wand-weighing station, and held her out precious, precious wand. She wasn't nervous. None of these people could make her remotely nervous. Were any of her employees here? She had looked at pictures...she'd recognize them. She had made it very clear she expected them all to come. But as she scanned the thin crowd, she didn't see any.

Well.

If none of them made it, that would be the first thing on the agenda for the FIRST meeting. Pity, that the first meeting of her career here might be fraught with her fussing tones, but no matter. Lynley had to do what she had to do.

The department head tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, blinking at the people around her. The newness of the job was still exciting within her, bubbling in her stomach with excitement, but she handled herself with poise, keeping her face blank. She then glanced down at her freshly painted fingernails, a pale pink, and hoped, for her peers' sake, that her nail polish was dry. Her...specially made nail polish.

All right, all right. Wand was done--now which way should she go?

Somehow, even though she would have expected it to take less time getting there from Suffolk instead of Queensferry, Amethyst still found herself running a bit late. All it did was remind her that she needed to organize a meeting with Delphine as soon as possible, just to make sure things would be alright later on, but first, she was going to do her job. In some ways, she’d already decided, even before she’d walked past the maze and everything else, that it might be safer for her to work behind the security booth making sure the new employees had everything they needed. She was fairly certain there were others who would have preferred she stay away from risks such as that maze too, but for now she was going with her own feelings. She felt it would be better, no matter how curious she was about the unknown aspect of the other tasks. Eventually perhaps she could step away and explore a bit, but for now she knew she had a job to do.

As she arrived at the table, she noticed there was already a short queue waiting, and MLE already present and working. She wondered if they would want to scan her wand, but she stepped behind the table anyhow. “I’m sorry. I was running a bit late,” she murmured to the two MLE workers, shifting the small stack of orientation packets waiting on the table just to give her hands something to do until wands were weighed. NO need to bog people down with paperwork while they were worried about their wands after all. She pulled a few nametags of those who had given their names however, ready for whenever they were. At the very least, she ought to be safe with the MLE workers, whether or not the Prophet had said certain things in the past year. She knew MLE, even if she hadn’t worked in that department in years, or here in England. She trusted them.

During his younger years, Mordred did not expect to work for the Ministry. He thought of it as boring and bland, and a total waste of time. Upon finishing his university education in Russia, he was able to experience to work for their local government, and realized that it wasn’t so bad. Besides, all the available reserves in the world are too far from home, especially now that he’s about to start his own family.

Speaking of family, he looked over his shoulder to see where his wife, Sophie, had gone off to. She also got accepted in the Ministry, and he was sure that she’s very excited to be working with himhere. Assuming that she’s too busy greeting people, Mordred went ahead to have his wand checked, and to receive his orientation kit. As he approached the brass device, he was able to sight familiar faces. They were, after all, former Hogwartians. He wasn’t in the mood to interact at the moment, so he’d just let them notice him as he goes through the checkpoint.

Well, that is if they can even figure out who he is. Mordred calmly stood behind the woman in front of him and waited for his turn.

Feeling that flashing his badge was more than enough, Aron had decided to play nice and throw some YATI a bone and let them weigh his wand and do all that they had to do for training purposes. That was the point of the day, after all. Training.

Or, as he hoped those belong to level 3 would soon demonstrate, how to do things effectively and efficiently.

And he supposed, although he hardly believed a lick of what the Prophet was publishing these days, one could never be too sure with all these Cult rumors. Honestly, he wouldn't put it past that hand-breaker-good-for-nothing-cocky-chomping-cabbage of a Law Enforcement department head to be involved in that lot.

Lazily removing his wand from his jeans' pocket, he twirled it idly in his fingers while he waited for his turn to be up and casually nodding his head to those nearby with a halfhearted 'hello' for a greeting. "Ah, there she is. My glorified babysitter," he mused while winking at the young woman.

He nodded in acceptance as she gave her name, waiting patiently as her wand was retrieved from her bag. "Yes it is," Simon answered as he accepted her wand. Alexa spoke up herself when the woman seemed concern for it so he remained quiet not to just repeat assurances but instead fed the wand into the machine. He wouldn't blame her for her worry, seeing as it was obviously a new thing for her and wands wer extensions of the witch or wizard they belonged to.

"Alright Taladona Jordan...." Simon spoke as he made sure the name was attached to the wand. " The machine did its job, weighing and scanning the item and connecting it with what was filled out on the woman's application. It took a few moments but all went well and the wand was rleased. "You're all set," he said as she took the wand and handed it back to her as well as her id since nobody from administration was there yet.

"Have a good day and enjoy the orientation." Lex had already handed her the welcome bag there with the next woman (Chelle) to take care of.

Taking a step back to let her try it out, Simon took a moment to be an observer. There were more new employees lining up as well as aurors and trainees and department heads who were either there to work or seemed like they were just doing it like old hats. As for Jory's nice toy remark, he teased back, "Oh this old thing...was given it by a nice former department head." Wherever Wes was.

He raised an eyebrow at Sky's question as she joined them, having briefly noticed what was going on in the Ministry proper himself. The auror-turned -security man was about to make a comment asking her how she felt given the other divisions had been stepping on his area's jobs all last year but decided against it. He was supposed to be the mature one leading the others.

"Cross training is always a good idea....especially if their jobs entail being out in the field. We can't always be there to protect them."

As for Aron, Simon returned the hello before raising another eyebrow at his remark directed at Alexa it seemed. Just what had the YATI gotten up to during her batch of rounds? At least the former MLEr didn't seem to be bothered by it which was certainly a good thing. The department liaison didn't need to have to try and smooth more ruffled feathers, especially this early in the game.

Peri held up his new staff ID and admired it. "Wow, I'm really in," he thought with excitement. "I'm a junior oceanologist. My first job!"

He looked around and admired the place, thinking about his mother who was an auror, of the other new employees who must feel as excited and as nervous as he was, of the years he studied in both wizarding and muggle schools to get where he was now... Peri smiled to himself.

He continued forward to have his wand weighed and suddenly remembered the name of the other new employee at the department, a "Olly Clarke," he recalled aloud. And remembering too the name of the department head, he thought aloud once again, "Emmalee Quinn." Peri looked around and hoped to meet someone from his department. He hoped to meet anyone really. A first day with a new friend would be great.

Lynley was observing everyone, before approaching. She was careful with whom she wasted her time on. Lots of young people worked at the ministry, didn't they? She'd have to ask her mother about this. She had already taken a glance at her department files...sure, there were SOME young people...but really, it was all she saw right now.

Merlin.

Lynley wondered if she was required to babysit at this job, too. Perhaps.

However, she wouldn't grumble right now. She was supposed to be...welcoming and inviting and whatnot, right? The former Slytherin wondered if she was all set to go in yet or not. Anymore security protocols? She certainly didn't want to bypass anything, or do anything wrong, on her first day at a Ministry hosted event.

....Was there a young man talking with himself? Lynley usually held her private conversations inside her head. Merlin, the boy seemed excited, too. Was it his first job? She shot him a glance, a not.....unfriendly one, so there was that. Lynsey was never that great at smiling.

And he supposed, although he hardly believed a lick of what the Prophet was publishing these days, one could never be too sure with all these Cult rumors. Lazily removing his wand from his jeans' pocket, he twirled it idly in his fingers while he waited for his turn to be up and casually nodding his head to those nearby with a halfhearted 'hello' for a greeting. "Ah, there she is. My glorified babysitter," he mused while winking at the young woman.

...this fellow looked familiar. Lynley actually cleared her throat, and caught sight of his badge...ah. That was why he looked familiar. She held out her hand for him. "...A Mr. Aron Ashburry-Hawthorne?" she asked, sure of herself, though, and merely quirked an eyebrow at his comment. It was most likely snark, and she should get acquainted with other department heads, probably.

Maybe.

If they weren't terrible.

"Lynley Purcell. New..Transportation Head." Yes. Was she supposed to wear her badge? She would have...now that she thought about it, she SHOULD have. Her tone was casual, but she was glancing around them once more, taking in another person wearing a DRESS. Merlin.

Alexa felt really light on her feet at the moment...which might have had something to do with the fact she threw her heels off the moment she peered inside and realized there was more of an obstacle course setting than a fancy schmancy party get up. Luckily the dress she'd been forced into was casual enough because NO WAY was she staying here the whole time when there was fun to be had inside.

Speaking of inside, someone else trying to get there. While she waited on one woman to fork over her wand, Lex turned to this other towering mass--best not said aloud. "Welcome to the Ministry where you'll have a great time depending on the Department you work in. The name's Alexa, 2nd Year YATI and I'll be needing your wand for a minute." As she explained, she levitated a package over, decidedly unwilling to keep doing this back and forth walking.

A name would be nice too.

And yet another showed up after she'd just gotten through with one. Busy afternoon this was going to be but that didn't bother her. Only thing was, she really hoped Rainey stopped by to check up on them because THEN he could see how hard at work she was. Lots of people had this thing against sucking up to the boss. Alexa....was not one of them. Anything it took to get to Head Auror status, anything. Even standing here greeting a bunch of people she'd probably never talk to again while weighing wands.

No big deal.

"Hello there! First time as well?" Obviously. Very obvious. Yes. Lex levitated another package from the pile, a welcoming grin in place (who said she couldn't make a good host when she bothered to try?). "This is yours. It's an orientation package to get you all set up. You'll find your badge inside." Explanations. Yup. "May I have your wand please?"

And there was Jory. Having her hands technically full, she would let Simon do his weighing for him, something she figured he would have preferred anyway. By the end of this all she would be an expert at this nifty little machine but that might do little to sway him. "Hey Jory, see you got passed over for guard duty." She'd call him lucky but then, what else was she going to do here? Walk around socializing?

She could but Lex liked doing her job an awful lot more.

Lookit that, just when she'd been starting to wonder if her other YATI team mates hadn't been given the memo, there was Sky. Someone thought having a grand look inside was better than being on time for duty. Lovely, wasn't it?

Her question though, had Lex turning and craning her neck to get a better look inside. Took her a moment of open staring before she shook her head. "Nah, it'd take more than an afternoon and a few stunts to get them to our level, 'specially the stiff necks over on Levels 1, 5 and 6." Took stamina and endurance. Not exactly something you get from a regular filing job. Should make for an interesting afternoon though, watching some of them making attempts.

"Grab a package and put on a smile. Reckon if we get these done soon enough we can have a go at them too." Challenging a bunch of stiff necks didn't prove much but merlin was it entertaining.

Lex watched that one get herself weighed and through to the rest of the orientation. The young woman was overly curious about what it was actually like inside but being stationed at this desk, she supposed she just wouldn't know until she got through with everyone else. That decided, she could spend no more time staring at the new woman, she had a job to do.

Oh man, why did this line feel like it was going on forever. Just how many new employees did they get this go around? Lex didn't pegged this place for having a high turn over rate. Then again, how would she know? All that administrative junk was best left to the old hats on Level 1. It was really nothing for her to be concerned with. Now safety, that was her priority.

The young woman was leaning against the table, elbow to it's surface palm cupping her face as she watched yet another new person approach the security check point. Plus side, she'd get to fire up the machine again so there was something to look forward to.

Lex straightened, even bothered with a smile as she levitated yet another package over. "Afternoon, welcome to the Ministry of Magic." She slid the orientation package across to her. "Starter stuff's in there, your badge too. What Department'd you get?" Were there any new YATI at all?

It was a small wonder the fact the packages didn't seem to be running out with how many she'd been passing out since she checked in to the desk. Whoever was in charge of organizing must have done there extra research. Made her think it could have been largely all the Human Resource offices pooling together. Sounded tedious, not at all like something she'd enjoy doing.

Not that this was much better. After the first couple, this job had lost its appeal and quite frankly it wasn't what you'd station an Auror to do later either so it wasn't something that needed getting used to.

"You look awful familiar." Lex commented as the latest addition made his way over to the desk. "Feel like I've seen you before." Hogwarts maybe, that's where she'd met most of the people currently in her life. "I'll be needing your wand please."

And in all the mind numbing boredom that the task had quickly become, Lex heard THAT. HIM. HIS VOICE. Immediately, her eyes shot up from the spot they'd been over-examining on the desk while she waited for someone else to step forward and over to a certain Department Head from Level 3.

The grin appeared in seconds. Sure the whole 'glorified babysitter' thing bothered her at first but then she got to thinking it was a special title and he was making room for her in his department and weekly schedule. Might have been wishful thinking but that wink said otherwise. Ahem. "Always at your service, Sir." Lex said, nicking his wand and turning to the machine.

"You just let me know if you need me for anything this afternoon--anything at all even if it means me having to abandon my post for a little." Subtle hints that she no longer wanted to be working behind this desk. Someone save her. There was a reason she didn't do a regular desk job or whine about YATIs not having desks. Only problem was Rainey not appreciating her absence.........gosh.

Alexa leaned against the desk, watching this new guy approach. He looked all wrapped up in whatever thoughts he'd been having. So much so that at first she thought he was talking to himself as he approached but then it was a name and they were meant to be giving those...yeah?

Olly Clarke. Right, Lex straightened, about to nod in acknowledgement of the name when she heard him call another name, this one more feminine.

The former Gryffindor went right back to leaning against the desk, fixing him with a curious look. "Well which one is it? Are you Olly Clarke or Emmalee Quinn?" He couldn't be both....the machine probably didn't register more than one per wand. "S'none of my business but you don't look like an Emmalee Quinn." No hard feelings, it was simply the truth.

Logan was turning a new leaf in many respects. He had moved home from France, applied and gotten a job at the British ministry and a new year was beginning with new challenges ahead. Clad in a smart dark blue suit and tie that his half-sister Hazel had insisted on him wearing to this day’s event together with his curly and very dark blond hair and blue eyes Logan entered the room assigned for the mandatory security check-in. Patting his left suit pocket where a collection of protective medallions laid given everything that had been in the papers about the ministry recently Logan saw nothing bad or wrong about offering out some free protection to his new colleagues.

Letting his blue eyes wander over the people already in the room and the giant, suspicious looking contraption up ahead, Logan wondered idly where the dreadful queue for getting his wand weighed and registered began. Following a brunette in a multicoloured dress as she glided forward to what he assumed was where the queue began he pulled out a shimmering medallion which he held out to her having no idea of her position at the ministry. "Excuse me miss, would you care for some free extra protection? This medallion is light and effective. It makes walking home after a day in the office extra safe and secure." Especially since Logan had charmed it to bark frighteningly like a pack of wolves among other things.

It was difficult to describe the feeling as Veronika made her way pass the Golden Gates. Anxiety? Perhaps slightly. Excitement? Yes, it was definitely present. Today was not only her first day at her new workplace; it was also her first day working in England. Feeling still quite incompetent speaking the English language, Veronika focused on carrying a friendly face when greeting others, even though two years of working under an English professor had improved her English quite significantly.

Upon reaching the peculiar machine, Veronika followed the example of the workers before her and set her wand on the wand-weigher. After retrieving back her wand, Veronika joined the rest of the crowd all gathering for the orientation. Certain familiar English words jumped out at her from different conversations across the space as she settled herself on the edge of the congregation. Let the experienced and familiars have their fun; Veronika certainly had no intention of joining conversations she didn't fit in.
