Discussion #1: Regulus Black

This is the first topic of discussion for the extra characters, Regulus Black. I'm very interested to find out more on this character, not only because he is Sirius Black's brother but what led to his downfall with the Deatheaters.

It will be interesting to find out exactly what everyone thinks and says about this character.

Things that we know:

* He is the younger brother to Sirius Black
* He was a Deatheater who was apparently killed by one, or at least this is what Sirius has heard
* He was the favored child by his parents not only for being proud of being a pureblood wizard but for also being chosen for the Slytherin House



I know that with some, including myself, believe that R.A.B. is none other than Regulus Black. There are things that point in his direction but what are your visions for Regulus Black and his past.

Regulus Black... I don't really know that much about him *is ashamed* He is Serious' brother right? I think he died. As you can see I don't kno wvery much at all and seriously need some filling in. He is an option to be R.A.B. The only thing is he is a deatheater, (well was) and as we know death earters are always loyal to Voldemort.

I think that Regulus was killed because of him finally realizing that maybe being a Deatheater isn't all it's cracked up to be. I think when he leaked information to someone, Voldemort ordered him dead because he didn't want that information getting out there and couldn't deal with disloyalty to him.

I kind of agree with you Pigwid, but I think he dies because he isn't getting information from his brother about James Potter. It's pretty sad actually. Maybe if he had been closer to Sirius he wouldn't have become a death eater.

I agree too with Emzie but i do believe that it was something more deeper than that. I have the impression that he become a death eaters in order to please his parents, not that he couldn't think for himself but it was his way to prove he was better than Sirius in front of his parents. I don't know if he is really the R.A.B that we are trying to find the identity but everything so far as leading me to believe that.

I also believe that RAB is Regulas Black. Something that Dumbledore said before he was killed - to Draco : "He cannot kill you if you are already dead. Come over to the right side, Draco, and we can hide you more completely than you can possibly imagine ." What if Regulas is only thought by Voldemort to be dead, but was hidden by Dumbledore because they were after the Horcruxes together in secret. Rowling has intimated that RAB is Regulas and that he will be a factor in the final book!

I never thought about that for this point of view but that make some much sense. If Regulus was believe to be dead from Voldemort then he wouldn't be hunt anymore. They only thing that make me doubt that is that Voldemort is really good a legilimency so i don't know if that would have work.

Yes, But! If Dumbledore is the only one who knows Regulas is alive, Voldemort could never get that info out of Dumbledore's mind. Dumbledore was also a good occlumens. In order to use legilimency, Voldemort has to have that person in front of him....I doubt anyone else even knows Regulas could be alive, and if they do, they would not be where Voldemort could confront them. Even Sirius believed his brother is dead.

Yes. So i guess that if Regulus is alive Dumbledore is not only the only one who knew he is but i guess his the secret keeper & probably have put some spell on his own around the place that he keep him alive. *Just a wild guess*. But that will make sense since everyone believe him to be death.

Of course we can only guess what is in Rowling's mind, but it seems to make a sound theory!

I don't believe that he was killed, at least,I hope he isn't!!
I think Regulas was supposably killed when he found out that he should be helping Sirius instead of the people who want to destroy Sirius and his friends.

Good observation Tatewin!!! I never thought about that before and I like your way of thinking.

If Regulus was indeed killed by the Deatheaters, I believe that it was about Sirius as well, something to do with not wanting to kill his brother, since they believed Sirius to be the secret keeper as well.

That is also good thinking! That definately could be what turned Regulas from the dark side! Sirius said that he found himself in too deep! For many, that kind of order would do it - finding themselves having to choose between their loyalty to Voldemort and the life of a loved one!

Obviously there is not a lot of information out there on Regulus but there is one thing that I believe...

I don't believe that Regulus did it out of love for his brother because the family was totally against Sirius from being a "traitor" to the family. But they way that I see it is that I believe that if Regulus was trying to save his brother from being killed it was because he did not want to be known as a murderer and he did not want to disappoint his mother.

Voldemort never said that they had to go that far at that early in the game, that I know of. At this point, he had only told the people that he was for pure blood families only so that he could gather his followers. Later on they understood where he was coming from when he began killing and such.....

I still believe that Regulus was not very close to Sirius but he might have had a very tiny place in his heart for his brother... but I think that if he was killed for not turning in his brother, he did it to make himself look good. After all, he was a Slytherin by heart and faith.

I will have to begin writing my story on Regulus once more but I need more time. I did lots of research on him trying to find out what different people thought and said about him. Little is known about him and JK really has me into this character by far.

I, too, believe that Regulus Black is the famous (or infamous) R.A.B. that J.R. Rowling writes about in Half Blood Prince. How this is going to come into play will be revealed in Deathly Hallows, I'm sure. I think Regulus was killed for the same reason many of you have stated, he decided that being a Death Eater wasn't for him. I think he was following the wishes of his family by enlisting with the Death Eaters, and found out that killing just wasn't for him, or he was just really a good guy at heart. I, too, would like to know a lot more about this character, I think he could be a very interesting one!
