staffed shop Scribbulus Counter

As you step into the shop, you will notice that it's a lot brighter than it used to be. The current shopkeeper has been busy painting walls PURPLE, rearranging all of his stock, and making sure that his customers have a great experience in his shop. You will find Jude Salem, Scribbulus' shopkeeper, either standing behind the wooden counter, or UNDERNEATH the counter eating his sandwiches. (He doesn't like to disappear for too long in case customers happen). On the counter, you will often see a range of flyers that advertise special offers that he is trying out, as well as a few flyers from other shops in Diagon Alley. Feel free to take as many as you wish, and always ask the shopkeeper if you have any questions about them.

If he looks busy, don't hesitate to bother him should you need help. He is ALWAYS beaming and would be delighted to help you out!

And he might even interest you in a stimulating conversation about quills and ink.

OOC: Do not, under any circumstances, RP the shopkeeper (Emzily). It's not a particularly nice thing to do, and your post will be deleted if you do it. If someone doesn't reply to your posts right away, please be patient. Also, please keep the chatter to a minimum at the counter. If you wish to RP with someone other than the shopkeeper and her assistant, feel free to go to the shelves. Thanks.

Sophia walked into the store looking for all of her Hogwarts supplies. She walked over to the quills display and picked out 6 nice quills. Then, she walked over to the inks and ink wells. She grabbed black ink and a gold ink well; she figured if she had money she might as well spend it. Hmm, I need parchment and a journal she thought.

She walked over to the rolls over to the parchment display and grabbed as many as she could carry. She would need them at Hogwarts. She then grabbed a red journal and walked towards the counter. "Hi! I would love to buy all of this stuff!" she said. "Oh wait, I forgot something!" she ran towards the quill section and grabbed a Gryffindor quill and flavoured ink, just for fun! "Sorry about that! How much will all of this be? 6 quills, a gold ink well, black ink, parchment, a journal, a Gryffindor quill, and strawberry flavoured ink." she said, making sure she remembered it all.

Since acquiring his own shop, Etienne had developed the ability of working in a certain place of the room, but still be aware of what was going on in another. Which was why, as he signed stock orders and chuck a letter from his mother on the trash bin, his brown eyes would briefly land on the heads of the brats that were already mingling and crowding his place.

Well, as long as they didn't nick anything and actually bought something, Kenning was fine with the whole thing. Raising his eyebrows a fraction as the costumer before him retreated back to the shelves to look for something else, Etienne put down the quill he'd been using, and began checking the items the girl was acquiring, and then added the journal when she returned.

Math. What dreadful necessity. As he went over the items again, Kenning lazily flicked his wand in the air, causing numbers made of thin whips smoke of different colors, to come out of it and peacefully hover next to him. Kids were into colors, Etienne had recently learned. With a bored expression on his face, he stared at the numbers -which were, of course, the prices of the items- and began to made the calculations, using again his wand. "That would be 4 galleons, 3 sickles and 4 knuts, miss." Miss. The term hardly suited her, for she was a child still; however, women, even at young age, rejoiced at being called that. Made them feel important, or something. "But I'll knock off the knuts." She was sweet, he was in a good mood.

Not that it'd be easy to tell. Etienne's expression was perfectly serious and business-like.

Dianna walked up to the counter careful not to trip.
She shifted herself to see the face of the man at the counter.
"Erm.. How much is everything?" she said. She quickly counted in her mind, three Hippogriff quills, 2 royal pheasant feather quills, seven rolls of parchment, a bottle of black ink, a bottle of cinnamon scented ink and a bottle of silver glitter ink. She also noted the green journal which was almost falling if she hadn't shifted to the other side.

Taking the money, and shoving in the box below the counter, Etienne deftly packed the girl's things in a brown bag, and handed it to her. "You are welcome, and come back soon."

Nice kid. Why weren't ALL like this one?

Doing the same process with his wand that he'd done with the previous costumer, Etienne eyed the products and did the necessary calculations. Blinking a the result, the man did it again, but the same thing came out.

Then he looked at the items, and noticed why it was so much. The girl had picked quills made of Hippogriff feather, and those were rare. "It would be 22 galleons, 4 sickles and 7 knuts. But I'll knock off the knuts." She'd shopped a lot, and was a young one.

Etienne's parents had never let him walk around with that much money at such a young age.

Passing to the next costumer, and noticing the stuff she was getting, Etienne didn't feel the need to use his wand for this one. It wasn't like she was getting much. "One galleon, 2 sickes and 8 knuts."

If only people would shop as little as the last two costumers had. Etienne wouldn't find himself in the need of exercising his brain as much while doing all the necessary mathematics. But then if they did, he wouldn't have much a business, would he? "1 galleon and 9 sickles, dear."

Dianna was relieved that the items were off her hands.
She got out her purse and handed over the exact amount, yes including the 7 knuts.
"It's alright." she smiled. The items were good quality and she'd like to pay in full amount.

Lilyana walked into the store and immediately saw the grand assortment of quills. She hoped she could find an elegant, flowing quill or two. But she would look for those later. She first went through the stores picking up necessary parchment, dark brown ink, and a small leather diary, to track her time at Hogwarts. And now to the quills...she thought. She stepped around some people, and started to the front of the stores. She looked through the white quills first, finding one that was long, soft, and flowing. I wonder if there's any peacock feather quills she thought. And right as she turned her head, the one she was thinking of was right in sight. She quickly picked it up before anyone else could, and headed to the special inks. She wanted some more ink than earlier picked up. As soon as she got to the ink, she saw glittering golden brown bottle of ink. She picked it up and immediately knew that this was going to be her diary ink. And now to the counter...if I can find it. she thought. She looked around and walked over to it.Excuse me, I believe I'm ready to pay. How much is all of this?

Elizabeth approached the counter nervously. She would not be nervous normally, but the grouchy-looking man behind the counter appeared very unapproachable. She slicked on a happy face and laid her heap of finding on the counter.

"Erm," Oh great. Already she was talking like a socially awkward git, "Hello, sir. I would like to buy 2 silver inkwells, 1 phoenix feather quill, 20 tawny owl feather quills-I lose quills very easily, you see, and I don't know why, I usually don't lose things, I try to stay very organized..." Aaand now she was babbling. Why was she always so uncomfortable when talking to strangers?, "Um, anyway, Er, 3 dozen rolls of parchment, 1 enchanted agenda, 3 stationary sets, 1 journal, and some standard colored ink." She finished with an anxious grin. Already she could tell this was going to cost more than she'd like. How much over the budget would Elizabeth be going this time?

Leilani walked over to the counter and pulled out her coin purse. She set down her two bottles of ink (the one sparkly pink and the other plain black) on the counter. After pulling out the number of coins she'd calculated earlier, she waited for the shopkeeper. Or the assistant, either one. Just somebody that worked there.

Maddie approached the counter, setting her things on the tabletop before she dropped them. She had... rather a lot. Two Phoenix feather qills, a bottle of Ever-Changing ink and a bottle of just regular ink, and two platinum inkwells. As well as five rolls of parchment. She knew it was probably a bit much, but she liked to be prepared. And if she didn't use it all this term, she could use it next term as well. So there. 'How much is all that?' she asked the shopkeeper, pulling out her purse.

"Good day, Sir. I would like to purchase these items please," Rowan says, setting her armload of items onto the counter. Let's see, she thinks to herself. 1 standard black colored ink, 1 self-correcting ink, 2 Tawney Owl feather quills, 2 dozen parchment rolls, and 1 blank journal in green. I think that will do for now. She smiles at the shopkeeper and asks, "I'm a first year. Could you please tell me if there is something else that I might need?"

Etienne stared at the items, and soon did the calculations. "18 galleons, 13 sickles and 15 knuts." In other words, a lot of money. Etienne supposed that things had changed a lot since he was a kid, because HIS parents never let him walk around with so much money.

Come to think of it, Kenning rarely found himself walking around with that amount of money. Whatever. Not his problem. "I'll knock off the knuts, though." Yup.

Etienne stared at the girl, a blank expression on his face, because she was babbling about things he simply did not care to know. It was slightly endearing, and it reminded him a bit of Holland, so Kenning forced his blank expression to somewhat melt away, and allowed a the tiniest of the smiles to take over his mouth.

Yeah, yeah. Kids. They talked an awful lot, but it could be cute. Whatever. He wasn't having any of his own anyway. Brown eyes on the items, Kenning flicked his wand in the air, causing numbers made of thin whips smoke of different colors, to come out of it and peacefully hover next to him. He stared at the numbers -which were, of course, the prices of the items- and began to made the calculations, using again his wand. "18 galleons, and 12 sickles." He'd just knock off the knuts; it was his shop, he could do it if he pleased.

Whatever, the girl's stammering and unnecessary babbling came off as endearing.

Etienne's brown eyes went from the little babbler to the following costumer - following costumer that had ink on her hair.

What. How. WHY? "You have ink in your hair," Said the man, stating the obvious. But what he wanted to know was HOW that had gotten there? There was a reason why the inkwells that contained ink were closed - to AVOID these kind of things. Oh. She'd broken a pot.

Of course she had. Clumsy people should just stay away from his place. Waving his hand around dismissively as if to discard the matter (which he did), Etienne, without a word, simply flicked out his wand in a lazy movement at the girl's hair and got rid off the ink, because he was a charitable soul.

"1 galleon, 9 sickles and 15 knuts," declared the man, giving the girl a serious look. Yeah, him not making her pay for the broken pot would just go without saying. If she brought it up, though, Etienne might just have her pay. For being slow and clumsy.

Oohh, silent kid. Those were rare, Etienne had learned, and therefore he appreciated them and their silence. Nodding at the perfect child (because for him the always-silent ones were perfect), the man took the money, counting it to see if it was the right amount, and shoved it belong the counter upon realizing that it was.

So not only was the kid silent, but she was efficient, smart and thoughtful, too, for having come ready with the exact amount of money to him. Extra perfect! Smiling at her, he carefully put her things inside a small brown bag and offered it to her. "Here you go, dear. Have a nice day and come back soon." Yes. Perfectly thoughtful, smart and efficient silent children were dear to him.

She knew it was probably a bit much, but she liked to be prepared. And if she didn't use it all this term, she could use it next term as well. So there. A lot of gold, Etienne wanted to say, but instead refrained from doing so; it wasn't what the girl wanted to hear, and it was kind of rude, too. Instead, he began to do the calculations with his wand aaaaaaandddd, it really WAS a lot of money. Etienne, being the charitable soul he was (except not really) decided to do a discount. He didn't mention it, though - people thinking that he was beginning to go soft on children would be a disaster. "22 galleons, 11 sickles and 9 knuts."

I think that will do for now. She smiles at the shopkeeper and asks, "I'm a first year. Could you please tell me if there is something else that I might need?"
"Good day to you as well, kid." A flicker of amusement crossed Etienne's face at how formal the girl was. From a babbler, to a silent and perfect child, to a polite and proper one? What were they feeding kids these days? If people kept on it, he'd soon enough run out of reasons to not have kids himself.

Huh. "Hmmm," Mused the man, not quite knowing how to answer her question. When he'd gone to Hogwarts, Etienne hadn't exactly been the greatest of the students - far from it. He often left his stuff hanging around, or just sold them to people. Or, in all honesty, he would just not get them at all and borrow them from someone, like the shameless person he was. "I think this is all you need for now. In a few years, though, like when you are a fourth year? I think you should try getting an agenda." Yeah, something that could shout her piles and piles of homework at her would work if she had a bad memory like he did.

Not that the agenda had helped Etienne in the slightest. He'd just gotten rid off the irking noise with the lazy flick of his wand. "If this is all you are getting, by the way, it is 2 galleons, 1 sickle and 13 knuts."

Come to think of it, Kenning rarely found himself walking around with that amount of money. Whatever. Not his problem. "I'll knock off the knuts, though." Yup.

Raising his eyebrows a little at the young one, and then shrugging it off, Etienne took the money, packed the child's things on a brown bag, and handed it to her. "Thank you and come back soon!"

Turning to the next costumer, Etienne's lips curled into a tiny smile at the sight of the items the girl was acquiring. The sparkly ink was, seemingly, a hit. Making a mental note to order some more before the ran out of it, Kenning said, "10 sickles and 6 knuts, miss."

Oh. Yeah. Etienne took the money, and handed the brown bag that contained the girl's items. "Here you go. Have a nice day and come back soon!"

"Thank you for the suggestion, Sir, but I brought my agenda with me. I don't go any where without it," she said and pulled it out for emphasis. She knew that it was strange for someone her age to be so organized but she didn't care. Rowan gave the shopkeeper a shy little smile and handed him the exact amount requested for her items.

...

Okay, the ministry wasn't that close, but it was close enough when you could apparate. Oh yes, apparating was fuuuuun. Y'know, side along was anyways-- she still had to wait another year. Mneh.

Louisa dragged herself to the counter hugging the items she just got from the shop and scattered them on the counter as soon as she got there. She was exhausted from shopping all day, and being an 11 year old only doesn't help at all.

She then stepped aside to let the people -who were before her- deal with the shopkeeper (Who was younger than other shopkeepers she's met before). She stood there leaning on the counter slightly and eyeing her scattered stuff waiting for attention.
