Default North End of the Street

Diagon Alley runs along a crooked, narrow street. Along the North End, of course, are the shopfronts. Large glass windows display hot items, special objects, advertise for sales, and encourage people to come in. The path is incredibly tight and overhangs of buildings on either side threaten to touch the building across from it. People walk packed together, as they try to maneuver around groups of people, vending carts, and holes in the cobble road. Be careful of doors opening so that you don’t walk into them by accident.

Outside the Leaky Cauldron entrance is a large, outlandish fountain which threatens to take up the walk. Once one gets around the fountain, the path tightens and the surge of people begins. Bump, jostle, and nudge people as you move around – it’s okay, really. Balconies and overhangs create a bright array of color as one meanders down the street. The noise level is cluttered – yelling comes from the hawkers, from the food vendors, from people calling to one and other. Much like a festival, the atmosphere is nearly tangible; electric and festive. Don’t forget to close your eyes and breathe in. Popcorn, kebabs, soup, bread; so many food smells fill the air with a pungent scent.

The sigh caught Sephi a little off guard, as did that look. It was a scary look, one that told her that shopping might be over before it was even started if she wasn't careful. "Please?" she tacked on hopefully. Unfortunately though, Mummy had previously made her thoughts on earrings crystal clear. It was becoming apparent that the only way she was ever going to get them any time soon was to pierce them herself. Ice and a needle, someone at school had said. Didn't sound too difficult, although she would need the earrings to put in afterwards.

She didn't get time to dwell on how she'd manage that though, as now she was being threatened with Daddy too. Undeterred, she wrapped a curl of her fiery hair around her finger. "Is he at the office today? We could get him one and see him for lunch." And maybe she could ask him about the earrings. "If you wouldn't mind taking me to Florean's pleaseandthankyou." The last words blurred together, and she rocked on her feet. She could start leading the way now, yes?

Or not. Right. The letter. "I started it," she replied, a slightly sheepish look on her face. "But then Mary Alston knocked my drink over and ruined it all." Well, ruined was a little bit of an overstatement. Daddy had managed to rescue all except one corner, but she wanted it to be perfect. It'd taken forever to alternate the words in Dora's favouritest pink and purple ink. "Can we go and see them soon?"

Addy narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips as her daughter added on that please a bit too late. She had no idea how close her mother was to screaming in frustration. With Dora having been ill, the added stress of taking Nicolas some days, having more demand for her freelance potions, Spike working in the office more than normal, and well... three children. THREE. And the zoo they currently took care of. Well, it felt like a zoo most days anyway. And one of her children always seemed to have a new animal to add to the menagerie every other day or so.

As it were, she did her very best to never let the little humans see she was stressed or upset. So she merely put her hand on Sephira's shoulder and gave a tiny smile. "Final answer is no. Not right now." She was SURE the child would end up doing it herself or having someone else do it... or conning another family member into it, but while she still had the say the answer was unequivocally no. Whether she wanted to hear that or not.

And that. THAT. No. Why were none of the kids afraid of Daddy? "We shall not be bothering your father at work," she said with a tone of finality. Urgh. Preteen was a headache. "Sephira. Speak clearly and mean it or we can stand here all day for all I care. I have charms on these shoes that makes it feel like I am standing on a cloud. I can do this all day." One thing she KNEW that her children were aware of was that once Mummy had made up her mind there was no changing it... not with sass, tears, or tantrums.

"When we get home you will finish it. Dominic has finished his. I am waiting on yours to send the parcel off. And perhaps we can visit before start of term. They have gotten settled in in Ravello from what she has said." What little she had been able to speak to her favorite cousin, that is. Life had a funny way of making people go longer and longer without a proper catch up. Especially when children were in the picture.

With that little smile and hand on her shoulder, Sephi might have taken a glimmer of hope from that use of not right now. That meant, maybe, just maybe, if she was good, Mummy might yet change her mind. She wasn't out of the woods yet though, as evidenced by the tone used about visiting Daddy at work. She knew Mummy meant business now.

A sigh escaped her lips as she let her hair fall across her face and looked glumly down at the purple boots she was wearing over stripey pink and purple tights. Her choice of outfit, of course. She'd been so excited to come shopping on her own with Mummy, hopeful of starting of school shopping, and now Mummy was upset with her. She didn't say anything for a few moments, instead quietly opening her purse and counting how much pocket money she had. It wasn't much, but it'd be enough for a couple of Mummy's favourite bars of chocolate. She looked up now, putting the coins away and tucking her hair behind her ear. "Can we go to Sugarplum's instead, please?"

No point going to Florean's if Mummy was upset with her.

As for the letter, she nodded. The comparison to Dominic was enough to spur her into action. She was the older, and therefore, should be the bestest. Not him. Hmph. "I'll need some more pink ink to make it all matching..." She tilted her head. "Is Ravello far?"

A sigh. The preteen sighed? That did something to Addy's feelings, honestly, but she did not make a move to take her hand off her shoulder. Instead the woman watched her daughter curiously as she counted her money? What was she up to?

Hmmm.

"We can still go to Florean's," she said softly, trying to gently coax the young girl from her sads. If that was what she was feeling right now, that is. But her manners had seemed to have resurfaced and for that, Addy was grateful for sure. Giving the shoulder a little squeeze she then slipped her arm around them and started leading the way back down the street. To Sugarplums unless Sephira spoke up and decided Florean's was the spot she did indeed wish to go.

"You know the way to Auntie Dora's heart, don't you. I will gladly get you some more pink ink if that is what you need. Any other colors you would like?" Because if she continued to be her lovely little girl she knew damn well she could have whatever she wanted. Heh. "Ravello is in Italy. On the Amalfi Coast. Do you know where Italy is""

She was pretty sure they had gone there on holiday before... and speaking of... "How would you like it if we went on a proper family holiday before school starts? Maybe we can spend it in Italy even. Seeing Nicolas, Dora, and Mikey for a bit and then maybe we can go elsewhere..." Spike would be done with his project in the next few days and that seemed like reason enough to celebrate. And what a great excuse for them to get some family bonding in before she shipped her FIRST BORN off to boarding school in France. Ugh.

The feels.

Sephi might have looked a little surprised at Mummy changing her mind about Florean's despite a lack of apology. But her mind was set on her plan to get chocolate for Mummy, so she simply shook her head. "Sugarplum's," she confirmed, a smile creeping on to her lips at that shoulder squeeze. And a few moments later, she took Mummy's hand and swung their arms gently between them.

She smiled wider, nodding. Of course she knew what Auntie Dora liked. As for other colours? That wasn't difficult. "Purple glittery." That one was her favourite, and she always needed more, even though the teacher at school said it wasn't appropriate for her homework. "And the new unicorn shimmer one." One of the girls at school had that, and it was super pretty. Not as pretty as the purple glittery one, but close. Very close. "...please." In case Mummy got upset about that again, and told her she couldn't go to Sugarplum's either.

She was quiet a moment as she pursed her lips, thinking about the map that had used to be on Dora's wall. Dora had pointed out all the places she'd been...and the ones she wanted to go too. A frown crossed her face as she couldn't place Italy though. She did remember something else that would've helped her find it if she had a map. "It's the boot shaped one." But a holiday to see Dora sounded fun, even if Dominic would have to come with them. "I'd like that. Dora still has a pool, right? Can we go to Disneyworld after?" She'd seen pictures, and it looked super cool.

Addy gladly let Sephi swing their hands as they walked along, glad that they both seemed to have gotten over whatever their mood was. "Okay, little love. Sugarplum's it is," she confirmed as they changed course and headed that way. Addy stole a glance at her daughter every few feet, a smile on her face. It was beyond all comprehension that the child that changed her whole life had grown into such a strong willed, beautiful young lady.

"Purple glitter and unicorn shimmer. Got it. How about some pink and purple stationary? And maybe some interesting envelopes as well? So you can write to me everyday while you are away at school..." Nope there was not a hitch in her voice as she spoke. Nope, nope. And she definitely didn't have to swipe at her eye quickly. Ahem. And she appreciated the addition of the word please. Indeed she did. Spike and she had done their very best to instill manners into all of their children and it definitely flew all over her when they did not use them.

The boot shaped one! That was correct. Addy nodded her head and gave her hand a squeeze as she let her continue speaking. "That's right, babe. The boot shaped one. When we get home I will show you on a map. And she does have a pool... and she also lives near the ocean again. So there is loads of swimming to be had! Disneyworld? In Florida? Well... I will ask Daddy, but I think that's a brilliant idea. And we can go to Chicago also! I will show you where Mummy used to live!" This was exciting to even discuss really!

Default Well hello Wizarding World
You have bewitched me body and soul, And I love- I love- I love you

Abi's eyes widened enough it felt like they would fill her entire face. This was her first trip to London ever and it came with an even bigger shock when she received her letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that she had been accepted for the next term.

Her father worked at the library in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and her mother a pastry chef in Edinburgh. And as far as anyone knew she was the very first witch in the family. Looking around at all the people who were hurrying around her and her parents as they stood rooted to the spot just outside the Leaky Cauldron taking it all in.

People bustling around in what looked like bathrobes of all colors, cats walking along beside people, not to mention the moving things inside the window displays along the street.

"Mum, what is this place?" Abi asked quietly though she felt like she was yelling. "I'm not sure, but this is where we were told to come to buy your school supplies. Do you still have your list?" Abi nodded as she took a hesitant step forward. She still thought this was a dream but kept pinching herself to prove that she was in fact awake. deep breath

As usual, on any other summer day in London, the high street of Diagon Alley was packed with people. Customers going in and out of stores and running around, it was the same sight everyday. Or at least, it was for Drewett who didn't really come here often. He was the type of kid who would finish all his errands in one long day so he didn't have to face the hassle of people again.

Staying at the side and avoiding the centre where there were too many strangers, Drew looked around and allowed himself to get lost with watching the displays of each shop. The ingredients at Slug and Jiggers caught a bit of his attention. The only thing he liked about potions was that there was a step-by-step process, and organisation of any sort was something he fancied. Then the music shop, which reminded him a bit of Rylee who loved music.

It helped him not think about how there were too many people around him. Lost in his thoughts, the Ravenclaw simply kept walking and ignoring the angsty feeling that came to him when someone bumped into his shoulder.

Every summer, it was easier to convince her parents to let her go to Diagon Alley alone. Or, basically alone. Cade had to be there of course, as did Cam and usually Cade’s bestie Autumn. But the important part to Kieran was that she’d become rather good at sneaking away from them, mostly because she could distract them with the Quidditch shop and then slip away to have a few moments to do whatever she liked. Which was usually visiting the music shop, since she knew the only other person in her family who really would’ve wanted to go there was her dad. It was almost like having him there, really, even though it was mostly her spending some of her school supply budget on sheet music and other things for her guitar.

Either way, that had been where she was when she’d seen a familiar head of dark hair pass by through the window, and she’d immediately decided to switch her plans. She’d paid for the things she’d picked out, then tried to slip out of the shop as quietly as possible, glancing around to check for her brother before picking up speed to “accidentally” bump into Drew’s shoulder. “Oh, hi! I didn’t see you there,” she said brightly, spinning around to walk backwards for a bit so she could talk to him face to face. As far as she was concerned, nobody was the wiser. And even if her brother found her, he couldn’t fault her for talking to a friend.

Drew had been too carried away by the displays for the music shop to notice that Kieran was apparently one of the customers inside. He squinted a little bit at the cassette tapes, unsure what does were. They looked old-school to him, so he was even more interested. How did that work? Why did it have two holes? Do you insert your fingers in those? All the questions. There were band merchandise too, but none of which he was familiar with. He didn't exactly follow any band or artist to be considered a fan.

Even when Kieran had 'accidentally' bumped into his shoulder, Drew didn't even mind, nor did he know it was her in the first place. She wouldn't have been the first to bump into him, as there were so many other shoppers in the alley today. He didn't pay much attention, but it was only when he recognised her voice that he fully looked at her. "Oh..." the Ravenclaw blinked a little, his minding-his-own-business bubble now popped and disintegrated. "...Hi, Kieran." And he totally got it, that she didn't see him there. He had been aiming to be sort of invisible anyway, completely missing out that she was just playing.

"I-it's fine. What b-brings you here?" Though, really, the question was probably more appropriate for him. Between them both, Kieran was more of the people person... and the alley was filled with people.

Her acting must be a lot better than her sister liked to say, although if Kieran had really thought about it, convincing Drew of things was easier than it was to convince lots of other people. Not that she was actually trying to convince him of anything. If anything, it had just been a fun little game of seeing if he would actually believe her when she said she hadn’t seen him. It wasn’t like they were trying to sneak around the castle after dark now. The surprise and how long it had actually taken him to realize it had been her was the more amusing part of it all, and it had elicited a wide grin from the small brunette.

Who was still walking backward with just as much confidence as she would have had she been walking forward. Somehow, she’d managed to find a rhythm in which she hadn’t ran into anyone seriously. “Hi!,” she repeated, still counting on her dance training not to fail her and oddly knowing it likely was going to scare her friend even more.

“Uh, shopping?,” she continued, at his question. What else would they be doing in Diagon Alley? Plus, she’d obviously had the bag from the music shop in her hand, but something told her the question hadn’t been meant rhetorically. Not coming from Drew, anyway, but then that was what made talking to him fun.

Plus, she’d obviously had the bag from the music shop in her hand, but something told her the question hadn’t been meant rhetorically. Not coming from Drew, anyway, but then that was what made talking to him fun.
Drew did not even need the slightest bit of convincing because he was oblivious to all that. He had been too preoccupied by his own thoughts to make such inferences. Besides, despite how scary Kieran could get, the thirteen year old had considered her a friend. She was nice, and she had great hair.

The fact that she was walking backwards didn't bother him either. Drew had grown used to the antics of Kieran Stevenson, but noticing a customer who happened to be rushing through the already crowded street, he helpfully and gently pulled her away. "Careful...." he said quietly. Could have been quite a collision right there.

But he felt even more sheepish because, he realised in that moment, that his question was kind of dumb. Of course she had been shopping. This was Diagon Alley, after all. It was not like everyone else was here for the same reason that Drew had--to walk around and escape. A trip to the sweetshop was not totally pushed aside, though. He could use a few more and take home some for the other Stemp House residents. "Well..." Drew ruffled his hair. "...Anything in p-particular?" He was working on upping his small talk game. He really was.

Whether or not it was necessary, Kieran still felt like it had proved something. Besides, just the fact that so far Drew didn’t seem completely terrified or whatever she was doing or planning on doing was an accomplishment in itself, even if she secretly found it amusing to try and get that reaction out of him. It was her own little weird predilection, according to her siblings. The one thing that they didn’t exactly understand about her, and therefore one thing that made her unique. Even if she already had her music and dancing to make her unique, more things weren’t a bad thing.

Although the other person she’d nearly collided with had gone without her notice, his pulling her aside to avoid the collision hadn’t. Another accomplishment, had she actively been trying to get rescued. She still felt like she’d been doing good enough on her own. “Always,” she replied with a grin, even as she’d spun to walk beside him normally. If anything, it was to prove she’d actually listened to him.

Well, and she might’ve actually meant to take him unawares, too. The question had proved that, as did his reaction. “It’s okay.” She’d noticed the hair ruffle. “Nothing in particular yet. I’m supposed to be getting my school supplies with Caden and my sister but I distracted them with the Quidditch shop so I could come to the music shop first,” she added, lifting up the bag holding the sheet music she’d bought so he could see it. As far as she was concerned, that was necessary school supplies too.

Sometimes Drew wondered about what made his friend tick. How did the brain of one Kieran Stevenson work? He would never know. It was interesting to just know someone who was perhaps your complete opposite. Outgoing, enthusiastic, loud. Those were things she was, that Drew would never exactly be. He remembered being very terrified of her back in their first year, but things have changed now. He had gotten used to it or, at least, he tried to make it seem like that.

Always? Drew was a little bit doubtful about that, given what he knew of Kieran, but he wasn't going to say that out loud so he instead offered half a smile when she finally spun around. "Y-you sure?" The thirteen year old asked, teasing a little bit. Besides, only Merlin knew how badly Drew would handle such a collision if anything happened to any of his friends. It would end terribly.

The boy tried not to let his curiosity overwhelm him, starting with the question on who Caden was... which he had suppressed so he didn't blurt it out. "You'll r-run out of n-nice quills if you d-don't hurry, by the way..." Drew helpfully pointed out, a little smile on his face. Sometimes, having nice quills put him in a good mood. But that was just him, and this was Kieran. He did, however, look at the bag with the music sheets. "...Piano?" Did she even play the piano?

It wasn’t as if Kieran actually intended on being so different from Drew. That was just a byproduct of the fact she just seemed way more outgoing than him in comparison, really. She just looked at it as curiosity. She could find out more by actually speaking up than she would by hiding, and if she could help others be more outgoing in the process, that just made it all better. Mostly, it had turned into trying to get Drew out of his shell. Most of the others she knew didn’t seem to need as much help. It was all actually completely innocent on her part. At least, she thought so.

For a second she actually thought he was questioning her intentions, but the hesitant question still got a grin from her. Especially as she decided it had to have been him trying to tease her, however awkward it actually was. Awkward teasing was still teasing, and she could tease right back. “Are you really questioning my carefulness?” Granted, she’d been depending more on her gracefulness than actually being careful, but that was why it was teasing. It wasn’t serious.

She’d blinked at his eventual response to her explanation, too. “If I don’t hurry where? And why should I be worried about running out of quills?,” she asked, truly confused by the abrupt change in topics. She had plenty of quills. Purple ones, of course. She was very particular about who could use her favorite quills, nearly as particular as she was about people touching her guitar or her toe shoes. “Some,” she nodded. “And guitar, of course.” She’d been taught how to play both. It was harder to transport a piano, but once they were at school she wasn’t as concerned over locating one if she wanted.
