Default Main Floor Seating

Here at The Leaky Cauldron, things can get pretty busy, and, for Lucy, this is exactly the case. For this purpose, a few changes have been made and now customers may come to the counter to place their orders, so as to keep the chaos down and keep things less hectic for the busy workers and their customers.

In the center of the room sits the baby of the Leaky Cauldron - baby grand piano that is. It is not unusual to enter the Leaky Cauldron and see costumers playing away at the piano. However, this piano is widely special, even for the Wizarding World. Years ago, Ryoma, former owner Harley's partner, built it by hand and therefore as one plays each key the ivory gives off a little puff of colored smoke that rises up into the air and form shapes that begin to tell a story to the music.

OOC: Please do NOT RP for Lucy. Doing so will cause your post to be edited or deleted depending on the severity. The piano is free for all to use so have fun with that and enjoy yourself. Also, please remember that Lucy does NOT take orders at the tables. You must go the Main Bar and Ordering Station for that.

And a very IMPORTANT warning. Please please PLEASE make sure you have read all SS rules - especially those involving drinking. There will be a zero tolerance policy in regards to this rule.

Every time he was alone with his thoughts, he still saw those injured students, still heard their cries... and the worst part was his beloved daughter, who he fought so hard to return to, no longer recognized him. She was so afraid of his scars that she cried and ran away whenever he was near. He couldn't hold her; he couldn't even look at her without frightening her!

The pain of Desiree's rejection was too much for him. He stopped sleeping; he could barely bring himself to eat. There were days when he cried at the drop of a hat and for hours at a time, days when he could hardly force himself to leave his room... then there were days like this when he had to put on a strong facade and pretend to be alright.

After a follow-up appointment with his healer at St. Mungo's, Gaston found himself outside the Leaky Cauldron. He should probably grab a small bite to eat while he was out so Rose wouldn't think he was starving himself. With a sigh, he clutched his cane tighter. His leg had healed, so he hardly needed it anymore. It was more an emotional crutch than a physical one. He adjusted the dark sunglasses he wore, just in case tears should rise at an inopportune time, and stepped inside. The dark glasses combined with his partial blindness was a disaster waiting to happen, and he bumped into a table with a loud THUMP! "Oh, my-! I'm so sorry!" he said, lowering his glasses a fraction of an inch to get a good look at the woman sitting at the table.
Helena was ready to get up and leave when she spotted a half blind, scarred wizard around her age, bump into her table. "Oh, that's okay. Please feel free to sit with me. I'm Helena Smithfield. Are you one of my niece's teachers?"

He had spent too much time assisting his mother with her company this past summer. All he thought was of fashion and style. At her comment for needing a pensieve, Chase almost immediately encouraged her to shout out her thoughts because he figured Maeve may have been stranded for words since she had so many thoughts in her head, but, instead, she surprised him. He slipped into the chair opposite from her and began to listen before curtly interrupting. "Of course I must know. I care." Pause. "About your well being." He fiddled with his sunglasses hoping that she'd continue.

A letter from her aunt? Usually a letter from a dear family member perhaps would have been a cause for celebration; however, in Maeve's case.... It was a little more complicated. He paused. An aunt who had never reached out to her until this precise moment? Chase didn't like the sound of that. Something was fishy. "Your mother's sister only reaches out to you now after six years?" he repeated before folding his arms. Fishy it was. "I'd hate to be the one to jump to THAT conclusion but it sounds like she may want something in return. I don't like her." Chase had spoken. YEP. He didn't like her. But.... He continued to fiddle with his sunglasses.

A few moments later, he spoke again. "Perhaps she feels guilty? Or perhaps your mother's death put her into a great depression or something?" Now he was just pulling at random thoughts as if trying to decide who the clouds looked like. Chase pursed his lips. Really couldn't tell. Shrugging his shoulders, he continued. "I don't trust her. I'd be skeptical... but that's just me. I do understand the yearn for a family.... Your own family." Who better than him to understand?

He was adopted after all. African father with a mother so British that even the monarchy would be ashamed. He shook his head. "But six years..... What do you make of it?"
"Then we're in luck," Maeve said almost automatically, snorting at the goofy puns and banter that they seemed to get themselves into. She nodded though when he said he cared, adding on about her well being. "Good, cause you're probably one of my closest friends." Tied with Kam and Anna, but he was definitely tops for closest male friend.

"Uh..." She fiddled with her fingers, gazing down at them for a brief moment before glanced back up. "Actually, after fourteen years technically. Since she's never reached out to me. I know my mama contacted her about my birth. Including that she was my guardian should something happen to her. But like ... what if... I guess. I always thought something happened to her, which is why we never heard any response back?" She bit her lip. She was a Gryffindor though; she was stubborn and brave. Wasn't she?

"My mom's ... not dead." Maeve corrected, swallowing. Surely Chase knew that. She sighed. "I am skeptical. But I also know ... my mom loved her kid sister. I mean she trusted her enough to make her my guardian. So I think ... I should hear her out. Be brave. Its what ... my mother would want. If I don't like her, it's not like I don't have a welcoming second home at the Stemp House.... and just hope ... she's not out to harm me?" Was underage magic allowed in the case of self-defense? Probably not. And she also was almost positive she didn't stand a chance given she was ninety percent sure her mother had said her sister was some skilled witch when it came to curses ... or something like that.

Chase smiled softly to himself and glanced down at his hands when Maeve snorted. He chuckled. It was great to hang out with a close friend. He was lucky to be included in such a good group. Anna, Kam, Emma, and Maeve seemed inseparable at times. When he first befriended them, he had felt a little awkward about being one of the only guys in the gang but soon he grew used to it.

"Weird indeed...." spoke Chase as he stroked his jaw, trying to understand this mysterious woman. What could have possibly prevented her from reaching out to her sister and niece? Maybe... Maybe she had a secret past?? "Maybe she's involved with something dark.... Or maybe she's got a secret that could endanger all of her family..." He paused, letting his mind fly as it created wonderful, fanciful stories. Heh. Oh yeah. Those could work.

Chase shuffled awkwardly at Maeve's correction. His face flushed bright red and he once, again, glanced down at his hands. He should have known that. Why did he say the other thing...? He sort of had just blurted it out by accident. It happened.... Being brave... "I suppose so but she.." he paused and bit his lip. "Want me to go and keep an eye on your when you meet her? So if you need back up, I can cast a quick spell or two. I know its underage magic but I'd break the law for.." He paused. "To help you."

Maeve glanced up, her eyes bulging slightly at the thought. "Oh. Dark. Yes. That's ... but wait ... does she want to bring me over to that side or ..." the blonde swallowed, suddenly her anxiousness creeping back into her throat, constricting her voice from even working. "Why ... why now?" That was the confusing thing. But she wouldn't know from just sitting here speculating with a friend, which was the other confusing thing. And yet, Aurelia Maeve Walsh, even if she did not inherit her mother's thirst for knowledge or love of books, she most definitely inherited the curiosity gene.

She nodded, not acknowledging his blush because merlin knew it would only make it worse. "I'd ... appreciate that ... I think though I want to wait until Christmas? At least then I'll be able to start fourth year without knowing these dark buried secrets from my long lost aunt," Maeve smiled softly. Although little did she know was that her aunt would be closer than she imagined, sooner than she thought. She didn't expect her to give up though on speaking to her, as while she never met her grandparents, she had a small inkling that stubbornness ran thicker than water for the women in her family.

Since her departure from Hogwarts, Regina had found herself working at Gringotts once more. Mind you, the desk job wasn't nearly as satisfying as her former position at the school, but it was at least providing her with employment until her transfer to Egyptian branch was approved and she could be rummaging through the tombs like in her former glory days as a Curse-Breaker.

In the meantime, she was enjoying her evenings off the clock. More often than she cared to admit, the woman found herself at the Leaky Cauldron. Today was no different, except tonight she was not planning on dining alone.

Rather than sit at her usual place up at the bar, she had ordered herself a glass of wine and snagged an open booth. She had more than enough patience in her to wait for Roderik to show up before ordering supper. Keeping herself preoccupied until she showed up, she pulled out a copy of the Prophet from her bag (only flipping to see if there was anything about the school) and gingerly sipped her drink.

Hirsch was a little surprised to be meeting up with Regina today but given the current goings on at the school, this probably shouldn't have been as surprising as it was. He might not have been at Hogwarts but thanks to a certain Gryffindor Prefect, he'd been kept up to date on what was going on. Which, unfortunately, meant he knew what happened to Regina.

Some of the previous letters Stasya had sent to him were tucked into his pocket and he held onto them as he walked into the Leaky. He knew what he wanted to say if the conversation got to Hogwarts but that was dependent on chance. Mostly, if she brought it up because he wasn't about to go ahead and upset her. Not when this was supposed to be a simple catchup between two friends.

So, he grabbed himself some beer and started looking around for that familiar face. He tried to look as casual as possible while he did so but nothing stopped that familiar dimpled!grin from spreading across his face when he spotted the cursebreaker. Hirsch made his way towards her, bypassing around particularly loud group as he went.

"Reading anything interesting in there?" He almost wanted to say that she was looking great as always but, at this point, this had almost become his version of 'hello' to her. Besides, he was sure Regina could handle curveballs.

Flip. Flip, flip. Flip, flip, flip. Nothing related to Hogwarts was screaming out at her. The last Regina read anything about the school in the Prophet had been weeks ago, which didn't take long to be published after she had been dismissed and a large reporter was found rapping on her front door. A quiet sigh escaped her, though mentally she wasn't all that surprised that the Prophet wasn't saying a single peep about the school.

The newspaper was instantly set down on the table and a smile appeared on her face the moment his voice sounded. Her eyes then took in Hirsch, not overlooking those dimples. She had missed him, perhaps more than she originally thought she did.

"Nothing worthy of note," the woman responded to him. "But you know how it is with the Prophet. Pretty dull reading unless they have some gossip or something negative to work with." She knew he'd understand what she meant by that -- having taught at the school, they both knew that the Prophet liked to weave their stories in a way that stirred up its readers.

"I see that university is treating you well," Regina added, bringing her glass to her lips. She may or may not have been looking him up and down since setting that newspaper aside.

It hadn't taken long for Regina to start sassing the Prophet and for Hirsch to start laughing. With, yes, those dimples on full display. To say that he had missed this was an understatement; it had almost started to feel weird not to see this woman on an almost-daily basis.

"And their love for exaggerating the truth to the point where it doesn't make sense anymore," Didn't they once claim that he had a thing going on with Regina? "I'm surprised they still have readers who believe them completely with how much they play that angle." Key word: completely.

At her words, he gave her a sad smile. There was something very bittersweet about what it is she had said and he felt it. But he also knew that this had to happen eventually so..... "And I see that freedom from the castle is treating you well," he said, raising his glass to her before taking a sip. It was probably not the best toast he could've given but this was to their new life.

And yes, he did notice that look.

And, again, with those dimples. It was as if the man knew that was a secret weakness of hers, which he probably did. Regina wouldn't put it past Hirsch of take advantage of that, which was fine with her. She knew things about him too. It was what made their friendship work, and bring some amusement into their lives.

Her life needed some amusement right now, after everything that had happened.

"Couldn't have said it better," she replied to him with a smile. "But that is true journalism for you. They have to give off an edgy tone or exaggerate to keep their gullible readers interested. If it's in the paper, then it must be completely accurate."

Their toast, which really wasn't much of a toast, was certainly bittersweet. She did miss having him around the castle just as much as she missed being in the castle herself. But this was their life now. "Well, not being around children around the clock and dealing with angry parents has kept my hair from greying instantly," she responded with a laugh. "Now I just have to put up with the occasional entitled goblin here and there."

Delyth pushed the door open to the old pub and entered the timeworn room, her usually curly blonde hair sleek with rain water from the unsuspecting downpour that transpired moments ago. It had been, what, five years since she last lay her warm chocolate brown eyes on this fine establishment. Delyth couldn’t help but flash her pearly whites as she crossed the busy room to find an empty table, her backpack clunking after each step she took. Setting her backpack down by the nearest empty table, Delyth took a seat before finally reaching into her backpack and pulling a book. Her nose practically pressed against the paper, she delved into a different time, the clatter of the Leaky Cauldron all but forgotten.

Today seemed like a rather busy day and Kaysha vaguely wondered why this was so. It had been a long week so far and a seemingly even longer day. This was why she decided to pay a visit to Diagon Alley. After being fired from Hogwarts, she had been warmly welcomed back to the Muggle primary school where she had previously taught before moving to Hogwarts. Naturally, she was still drawn to the Wizarding world.

With a quiet sigh, Kay cast her blue eyes around with the aim of finding a place to sit, preferably alone. That was not to happen it seemed for there were lots of people teeming around. There was someone sitting alone, however, and the woman made her way over to the other woman. “Hello. Would you mind if I sat with you?’’

There was so much paper work waiting for him at the Ministry that he was dreading it when he came back tomorrow. However, he still had some free time and he was going to spend it in the Leaky Cauldron. He had been wanting a fire whiskey for some days now.

As he walked inside, Kevin rubbed his temple at the noise. Of course he had to come in when it was fairly busy. Wasting no time at the door, the ministry worker walked confidently in to the room and he took his grey coat off with a flourish and draped it over his arm. As his eyes searched for a place to sit, he found a young woman reading a book at an empty table and he turned her way.

He did not say anything as he sat down at the table opposite of her and he folded his arms and cocked his head to the side as he tried to read the title of the book she was reading. Yes, he was staring. And no, he did not care if it was concidered rude or not. He was more curious how long it would take her for her to notice and he even started to count in his head. 1...2..3...

It wasn’t until she set her book down, a happy sigh escaping her lips that she noticed there was actually someone sitting next to her, staring in fact. Jumping slightly, hand pressed against her chest in surprise, she smiled at him, somewhat perplexed that he didn’t greet her when he sat down Oh, sorry! I didn’t realise you were sitting there”. Pausing briefly, she continued, “I really do get lost in a book sometimes” gesturing at the book in front of her now. “I’m Delyth by the way” she continued, her burning face a light shade of rose. “And you are? “It was strange how she’d only been back in the country a few hours and yet, she’d somehow managed to embarrass herself in front of a stranger.

"Not at all, that seat isn't taken." She smiled.

Kevin did notice the slight jump and he tried not to grin as she pressed her hand against her chest. He checked his watch and saw that it had taken her quite a while to have noticed him staring. "You should be more aware of your surroundings" he said. "Especially in a bar, i could have stolen your wallet and be out of the door before you'd even realised what had happened" And he could have done it, having been a pickpocket himself in his teenage years. Even at Hogwarts he had stolen quite a few things...Until his expulsion... He unfolded his arms and leaned back against the seat. "Apologies for startling you, though" he said and looked at the book that she had been reading.

"Is it any good?" he asked. He did not read but perhaps that was because he had not found his genre interest yet. "I'm Kevin"

Tucking some her blonde curls behind her ear now, she couldn’t help but raise one of her eyebrows slightly at the man sitting next to her. She was perfectly aware of her surroundings, thank you very much. With a small ‘hmph’ sound, she crossed her arms and stared at the man pointedly for a second before finally answering him. “I WAS lost in my book, you see” she explained, her hands becoming slightly animated now despite her attempt to keep them locked away.

Waving away his apology now, she hesitated for a second before picking up the book, a hint of a smile playing on her lips “It’s been really interesting so far! It’s buy a French muggle author in the mid 1800’s although there have been several movies based on it”. Rather reluctantly, a wide smile appeared now as it always did when she talked about something she loved. She held out the book for him now to have a look, should he wish to, an encouraging smile resting on her face.

Trying his best to not let out a laugh and succeeding in doing so by discreetly biting his lip as the blonde let out a hmph sound. He then held his hands up in mock defense. "Alright, alright" geez, did she get worked up at everything or something. He had only tried to help. Then again, his way of helping had always been out of the box... but he was never the most social person. And his job did not help making him good with people either. He spend most of his hours of the day stuck in the memories of crime witnesses instead with real people.

That's why he frequently came to the Leaky Cauldron. To have SOME kind of human interaction.

1800's? sounded boring.... But he still took the book from Delyth as she gave it to him to see and he turned it around to read the back. "....I hate admitting this but it actually sounds interesting" he said as he opened the book up and flipped to the last page and then gasped. "Over a thousand pages?!" insane!

Excellent!

Kay did not quite fancy having to go in search of another seat. “Thank you,’’ she said as she placed her shoulder bag on the table before sitting. She considered ordering something but was not quite in the mood as yet. What she would do, however, was to continue grading some of those test papers. So, she reached into her bag for them. Despite her ready to focus on the task at hand, she did not forget about the woman before her.

“I don’t believe we have met before. Kaysha Stewart.’’ Kay offered a smile. Now, she was reaching for a pen. There weren’t many remaining papers to grade thankfully.

" I'm Melody Galloway but you can call me Mel. I'm still pretty new to the area. I just moved here from Glasgow. " she took a sip of her butterbeer. As she saw papers on the table. " Do you teach?"

Delyth couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his mock defence. Maybe he’ll think twice next time before he starts to berate a stranger. Never mind, holding a grudge was not her at all. She could be fierce when she wanted to be but once the storm passes, then she’s back to her normal bubbly self.

Speaking of fierce things, she couldn’t help but give a hesitant smile at his discovery that the book was over 1000 pages. It amused her that the 1000 pages was a deterrent. “What? Is that…” tilting her head sideways now with a mocking grin, “too much?” she continued, reaching back for the book. “I guess you don’t want to borrow it then” still poking fun at him a little. She honestly didn’t mean it in a bad way but that was just her.

How had she managed to end up here? Looking him up and down now slightly, her critical eyes trying to find some miniscule detail that she could sink her teeth into. Finding none, because she was no Auror, she decided to ask instead. “So, why are you in here sitting at my table today?” curiosity finally getting to her.

Caleb quietly found a seat by himself at a table close to a window. He faced away from the closed front door. He did not like seeing closed doors. It scared him to no end. So seeing a big window helped him a bit. Caleb sat down and quietly obserced what was going on outside.

The sole fact that Delyth tilted her head sideways and mocked him back made him like her at that instant. He had always enjoyed annoying people and despite having had guidance before, he could never shake off the feeling off joy mixed with curiousity at how people would react. But this woman was the first in a while who actually seemed to challenge him a bit. Yup, he liked her.

"Even my books at the University weren't that big and you read that for fun?" How people managed to do that was beyond him. He couldn't keep his focus long on words alone, he needed to see pictures. Guess he was a visual thinker. "Nah, i'm good" he said and gave the book back to Delyth.

He had been waiting for her last question for some time now. Frankly, he had thought that that would have been her first question. She was very peculiar... "I just felt like it" he said nonchalantly and shrugged his shoulders. "What do you do for a living?" he asked back bluntly.

Delyth really couldn’t decide if she liked the man sitting in front of her now. What was it with him? He just seemed to demand information for her as if he it was his right to have it? No. It doesn’t work like that. You need to build trust before you get answers from this closed book. Although sometimes…Okay, all the time, the opportunity to be a little sassy was just too good to refuse.

She couldn’t help but frown slightly at his declaration that none of his university books were this long. Sheesh, what did he study? How to interrupt people’s quiet time with rude behaviour? That takes, what, 1 pages and lots of colouring? “I read this for fun, yes” she replied curtly, her lower lip jutting out slightly at his obvious distaste for her book. Stupid man with his grey coat. He could at least buy one that’s remotely interesting and that stands out. What is he, some sort of spy or something? At that last thought, she smiled now, her own joke amusing her slightly.

Deciding that there was no way she could read her book now, she tucked it back into her sunshine yellow backpack before finally answering his question. He could just wait. “I just finished university so I thought I’d come back home for a bit” briefly pausing now. She honestly didn’t really know what she wanted to do yet. Stupid Kevin had somehow managed to get her to think about something she’d low key been worried about. Lost in thought slightly now, she let out a soft ‘ugh’ under her breath at the thought of filling out job applications in the coming months.

Giving her head a little shake now, she stopped chewing on her bottom lip and focused on the man sitting in front of her. “So, what do you do for a living that requires you to read small books?” she asked, rearranging her face into a smile.

The other woman had a pretty name. Kay liked it.

“It’s wonderful to meet you, Mel.’’
Naturally, she genuinely meant it. Oh? Melody was new around here? “Is this the first time you’ve come here? I mean to London.’’ If it was, she was more than happy to recommend great places to eat, shop or to just visit for fun. Now Kaysha looked down at her papers then back at Melody with a nod. “Muggle primary school.’’ She did not need to state that she had recently been fired from Hogwarts.
