Welcome to Knockturn Alley

In a nook in Diagon Alley, a twisting alleyway that specialized in the Dark Arts branches out. This is Knockturn Alley. Children are not allowed here, not only are the wares sold in the stores and by the street vendors dodgy, but the wizards who frequent the shops are dark, mysterious, and you wouldn't want to meet them alone. This is a place that is KNOWN to be a bed of murders and a den of thieves. There may be Dark Wizards who will want to harm you, but also Aurors around to catch you. No one is your friend here. Trust No One.

Just click on the links to navigate Knockturn Alley:

Knockturn Alley
Knockturn Alley branches off of the brightly lit and benign Diagon Alley. Along this cobble path, you'll find unique items and ideals of the Dark nature.

Or maybe you won't.

How pure is YOUR blood?

Watch your step and proceed with caution. It's not too late to go back to the brightly colored umbrella for a mocha and a muffin.

Steps Down To Knockturn Alley
Off of Diagon Alley is a stairway that lead down to a darker, more sinister area known as Knockturn Alley. On this stairway are street vendors and some shops long the way.

Arkie Alderton's Kwik-Repair Shop
Arkie Alderton's Kwik-Repair Shop will fix your broomsticks while you wait. The shop has, over the years, expanded and is now a general repair store. The shopkeeper here will fix any magical equipment kwite kwikly.

The shop is oddly shaped, long and thin. There is a counter at the back of the room, covered in tools. Presumably this is where repairs are made though quite often strange, whispered conversations might be observed down that far end of the store.

Near the front is another counter where you can inquire about getting your magical items repaired and pay out of the nose to get them fixed. There is dumpy couch across from it ready for those customers who are waiting for their repairs to take a seat. It smells like rats and occassionally it squeaks alarmingly.

There are no windows, save for the narrow panes of dingy glass on either side of the door, and the only light source comes from lanterns floating above, each casting a sickly yellow-green glow on the interior of the shop.

The walls are covered with items in various states of repair. Instead of hooks, each item is held up by a skeletal hand. Those hands which are unoccupied, grab in the direction of anyone who passes by, made even more alarming by the narrow shape of the room.

Have a look at the prices for repairs if you dare, but I wouldn't hang around too long if I were you.

Unless of course you have other business.

The Starry Prophesier
Some ways down Knockturn alley there is an old cart owned by a romanian gypsy hag. From the cart two wooded steps come down, and there is a table with two ratty chairs on their side. Above the cart a sign hovers that says The Starry Prophesier. It has been said that Madame Hildegard, the old white haired gypsy hag, with green skin who owned the cart was known to have tasted the flesh of children and muggle borns who came to her cart. Her hook nose was punctuated with a large black hairy mole and her yellow eyes can petrify you if you stare at them too long. Here you may purchase all sort of dark magic divination items and be it Palms, Tarots or Runes, this is the place to get your future read.

Twilfit and Tattings
Someone once said detail is the difference between ordinary and extraordinary. The owners of Twilfit and Tattings invite you, the pure and true witches and wizards, to experience a world of timeless luxury. This upscale robes boutique is designed to dazzle and mystify the most choosy and finicky of pureblood wizard and witches. A sign on the counter states:
"Purebloods will think this shop,
has nothing but the cream of the crop,
but if your blood is not pure,
you'll be banished from here for sure."

The Coffin House Necromancy Emporium
The door to this eerie shop is shaped like a large black casket. As you open the lid and walk through, the red velvet covered walls and wrought iron candelabras feel warm but somewhat creepy. But here is where a dark wizard will find everything he will need for all his necromancy needs.

Borgin and Burkes
At number 13B, Borgin & Burkes still stands. This antique shop is the most well known and oldest of the shops in Knockturn Alley. Every dark wizard knows this large, dusty shop is the place to go to find objects that are both strange and powerful and very old items that seem to hold unusual and dark characteristics. But don't let the dim lighting that comes from the large stone fireplace fool you. This is not a welcoming place. Its former owners, Mr. Borgin and Caractacus Burke, were known to be able to swindle powerful magical objects for very little money and then sell them for triple, but that is nothing compared to the new owner...

Splinter and Kreek's
Even Dark Wizards need broomsticks! These brooms are used and varying states of repair. You can get a cheap broom here no trouble or maybe one with a more interesting pedigree. Special polishes and charms can be applied by request, but if you get caught using one, you didn’t get it from here.

The shop is tiny, though there appears to be a sizeable back room. Once upon a time this particular store happened to sell shrunken heads and there are a few hanging here and there watching everything and occasionally making comments on the clientele.

Occasionally witches and wizards of the dark variety, after talking with the Splinter and Kreek staff, disappear out into the back room. Occasionally they return with a house elf in tow. I wouldn’t linger here if I were you, or poke your nose into business that doesn't concern you.

Moribunds Pub
Unless you have business here, you will find the door to this pub is almost always locked. If it does happen to open for you, you’ll walk inside the pub, which is dimly lit by lanterns that throw out an eerie orange light. You may feel a distinct creeping feeling up your spine and that isn’t unusual, maybe you should trust your instincts and go somewhere else? The floor in Moribund’s pub is made up of uneven slabs of stone, darkened by age and from the build up of all sorts of grime. The heavy door closes silently behind you as you enter.

In addition to the lanterns, a candlestick sits on each table. Only the candles on occupied tables are lit, though they barely provide enough illumination to see by. The bartender watches you closely, almost accusingly. Its obvious that not just anyone is welcome in Moribunds. They serve food here and it’s surprisingly good but hardly the reason most of the regulars frequent the pub. Children are not welcome in Moribunds; of age witches and wizards only.

The Spiny Serpent
The vases out front are only a hint of what you’ll find inside the Spiny Serpent. As you pass through the doorway a buzzer that howls like a banshee goes off, announcing your presence to the shopkeeper and the denizens of The Spiny Serpent. The store is split between flora and fauna; sentient plants, magical plants, dangerous plants, semi-illegal plants, can all be found here. Likewise any dangerous or dark creature you have a hankering for can be found within the walls of the shop.

If there is a creature you'd fancy but can't quite be bothered with applying for the appropriate permits, you've come to the right place. Need guides for breeding magical plants or creatures? You'll find those here too, plus everything you'll need in your, shall we say, creative endeavours.

Anything that you can’t see on the shelves in front of you can still be found... for the right price, so go ahead and place an order if you dare, just remember you didn’t get it from here.

The Gleaming Gytrash Apothecary
The Gleaming Gytrash is where you'll go if you happen to be a dark wizard in need of potioneering or herbalry supplies. There is a herbalist and an apothecary here in this dark and ominous store and much of what is for sale is poisonous or highly dangerous in other ways.

There are a few specialty cauldrons, gemstones, lodestones, stirrers and other equipment available, though you are better off going elsewhere if you want something a little less legitimate. The prices are written up on a chalkboard behind the counter and the entire shop is covered in shelves and cubby holes. Each one contains jars full of bits of magical plants or creatures, various dried and fresh herbs, and pretty much anything anyone dabbling in dark potions will ever need.

Of course basic ingredients are available too, if you happen to need them, but be warned that snoops and the occassional mudblood might just go missing if they step foot in this store.

You can buy ready made potions or everything you need to brew them yourself. Take a look around but don't stay too long unless you want bits of yourself sold as ingredients too.

ooc: Remember that Snitchseeker site rules, Knockturn Alley specific rules and the Diagon Alley Rules apply at all times. If you have any questions, you can ask them in the Diagon Alley Questions thread. Be careful how you play here, your character CAN get hurt or worse if they get in the way of the wrong person. Try to be respectful if a duel erupts and pay attention to any PMs you get from one of the Knockturn Alley staff.

If you have any questions contact the mod in this forum: DaniDiNardo.

Mother: Olivia Marron
Father: Evan Trevelyan
Sibling(s): Evangeline Harper (younger), Jacob Trevelyan (older), Andrew McCallin (younger)
Other: Edmund Marron (Uncle)

=====Personality=====
Emma isn’t the type of woman to sit around and wait to be handed an opportunity. For as long as she can remember she’s always been a go getter, the one who didn’t take no for an answer and always found a way even if she had to make that way by force. She doesn’t have the patience needed for most negotiations or the compassion required when a deal goes wrong. Everything has to go according to plan—her plan. Her personality is a strong and somewhat overpowering one. Once she has her sights set on something she’ll take it and doesn’t do well with opposition of any kind. By nature she’s a rather cold person, lacking even the smallest hint of empathy. Her humour is a dry one and her idea of fun is questionable by most. Her smile isn’t to be trusted. Very rarely is it shown and when it is, one shouldn’t expect something good happening.

=====History=====
SPOILER!!: Click thiiis

Emma was born on March 25th to a mother that had no proper means of taking care of her and a father that wanted nothing to do with her. Needless to say she never saw much of him, the last she saw of him was her 2nd birthday when he stopped by the house to inform her mother that he didn’t want to be bothered about her anymore. Despite the fix her mother had gotten them in she went and had another child, Emma’s younger brother Andrew. He further sucked the resources they didn’t have, forcing them to live from sickle to sickle in order to survive. Growing up, neither she nor her brother received much in the way of affection and she soon convinced herself that it was not needed or in the least bit wanted. This led to her rather detached way of looking at the world. To her, nothing mattered.

Her mother could never afford to pay for private tutoring or the expenses brought on by the public school system, as a result she did not receive any form of formal education until the age of 12 where she was taken by her uncle who agreed to pay all her Hogwarts expenses as he refused to have what he considered a ‘quick’ mind go to waste.

Living with him, there wasn’t much more affection than that received at home. This didn’t bother her. Where her uncle lacked in the affection area he more than made up for in the area of providing her with opportunities. He taught her to go after whatever she wanted, not to doubt herself, and to never fall prey to having sympathy for others as it usually led to one’s own undoing. She took each of his teaching’s to heart, putting them into every area of her life. At school Emma had little time for anything but bettering herself and spent her summers at a Mechanical Shop owned by her uncle’s friend, unofficially earning her own money. This continued every summer until she graduated at which point she moved out of her uncle’s in the hopes of starting her own life.

Starting over, however, would prove difficult. Out in the real world she found that it wasn’t enough to simply be detached, one also had to be ruthless. Just after landing a job with a prominent business firm rumours began spreading of fraud somewhere in the company. Upon an official investigation files were shredded, records destroyed and the bulk of the blame left on the innocent intern that had only just started. Emma was not amused, nor was she willing to go to jail for something she’d never bothered to even concern herself with. Having decided this, she planted her own ‘evidence’, created her own files, gave a few well received threats to the auditors and found enough dirt to discredit every member on the company’s board. No one believed she would have pulled it off and they were even more confused when within the next three years, she managed to gather enough board members and their shares, help the company rebuild then take it over. No one ever figured how she managed to accomplish this but there was never anyone brave enough to ask.

Emma ran the company with an iron fist, keeping a tight rein on all areas. Promoting where she saw fit and firing where she no longer saw any need. It all seemed to be going well until her right hand, someone she had against her better judgment trusted with most of the assets, sold out and took a few members with him hoping to take her down. This time she did fall and fell hard at that. Bitter over the betrayal she went looking for some of the darkest wizards to help her deal with her ‘problem’ but instead found employment with them as an Assistant Shopkeeper down in the notorious Knockturn Alley.

It didn't take long for the then Proprietor, Everard Peverell to put Emma in charge of the day to day runnings of the alley having found her to be a diligent and much more meticulous worker than himself. In this time, Emma was never particularly fond of the man which was due largely to his outlandish personality. By some great stroke of misfortune, she later found herself carrying his child and taking over the alley in his sudden absence.

Madam Hildegard
An old hag

SPOILER!!: Bio
Name: Madam Hildegard
Date of Birth: March 15th, 2000.
Age: 81.
Current and Previous Occupation: Peddler - The Starry Prophesier
Eye Color: Yellow
Hair: White
Personality: How would you act if you had green skin!?
Madam Hildegard was born on March 15th, 2000. She was not always known as Madame Hildegard, since the Madam had come later. She was, however, born with green skin and yellow eyes. Her mother and father, whose name is unknown, were both potioneers, and unfortunately, not very good ones. Due to drinking their own potions, Hildegard was born looking the way she does.

Embarrassed by their child, Hildegard's parents gave her away. Her parents died a few years later, due to an expired vial of armadillo bile which they used trying to brew a wit-sharpening potion. Hildegard never found this out, since she thought she was the child of the gypsies.

Now known as Madame Hildegard, the woman stayed with her street family until she turned 50 years old. At that time, the younger family members take over and basically cast their elders away. Not knowing what to do, the green skinned woman went out on her own, eventually finding an old cart and filling it with the things she had learned over the years. There was a problem; no one wanted to stop to buy from the woman, they had other plans.

Every place the woman went, people would constantly throw stones at her. For a VERY long time, Hildegard dealt with it, until she came across a small town in England. She was stopped by a group of teenagers, wizard or muggle, she knew not, who she thought were really interested in her things. As she stopped, the teenagers pulled out stones, throwing them at the woman. After all the years of that happening to her, the woman snapped, and attacked one of the teenagers, dragging him into the nearby woods. The boy was never seen again, and the rest of the kids swore as they saw the woman emerge, saw blood drip off her chin. As she left, the group went into the woods to look for their missing friend, finding no signs of him, except for one shoe.

Madame Hildegard has been in Knockturn Alley since then, the only place where people don't stone her.

Demian Andromalius
A Ghost

SPOILER!!: Bio
Name: Lord Demian Calviticus Andromalius, IV.
Date of Birth: 04/20/1489.
Age at Death: 29.
Years attended Hogwarts (or other school): Homeschooled as all nobles were.
Current Occupation: Haunts the Coffin House Necromancy Emporium.
Previous Occupation(s): Lord of Tindenbury under the Great King Henry the VIII.
Eye Color: Black.
Hair: Black.
Height: 6'2.
Marital Status: Widowed.
Personality: Pompous and Vane.
History: Demian was the son of wizards of nobility. The fact that they were magical beings was kept secret by an ancestor who watched his mother burn at the stake. Demian was beautiful, so much so, no girl could ever compare to him. King Henry ordered him to marry a lady in waiting... but, a few days later she showed up dead somewhere with no marks at all... as if she'd been killed by Magic. Demian had been with the king in France and so he was never suspected. A few years later, the King insisted Demian marry another lady in waiting, but when Demian left with the King for Spain, she too turned up dead. Demian cast the imperious curse on the King, so that he would stop setting him up, but a Lady in Waiting named Tabitha saw him cast. Demian found out Tabitha was a halblood witch. He began courting her so that she would not spill his secret to anyone. On the eve of his 30th birthday, Demian was angry. He was getting old, and he didn't want wrinkles or age spots to ruin his beauty. Tabitha tried to cheer him up and offered to cast a freezing spell on his skin on the day of their wedding, so the wrinkle by his lip would not be visible. He was so angry that without thinking he scolded Tabitha and told her a pureblood such as him would never lower himself to marry a filthy halfblood. Tabitha, hurt and offended, gave him an early birthday girl, and cast the killing curse on him before he reached the next day. Demian's vanity knew no bounds, he'd set himself to come back as a ghost so he could continue to be beautiful in the afterlife. One thing he did not forsee, was that Tabitha bound him to the area in which he died... and now... he haunts the Coffin House Necromancy Emporium.

Korpsit
A dark creature

SPOILER!!: Bio
Name: Korpsit
Date of Birth: exact date unknown, estimated to be in February, 2026
Age: about 55
Years attended Hogwarts (or other school): none
Current Occupation: Arkie Alderton’s Kwik-Repair Shop
Previous Occupation(s): belonged to several rebel Goblin groups
Eye Color: beady black
Hair: thin whisps of blondish white
Height: he’s never measured, but somewhere between 3 and 5 feet.
Marital Status: single
Friends: some of his fellow compatriots, most are in prison
Personality: Korpsit is coldly polite around wizards. He is patient because he has to be. The Goblin is calculating and clever, but very close-minded when it comes to humans, particularly the magical sort.

History: Korpsit was born in Northern Sweden to a poor mining family. His father, also named Korpsit, a gold miner, had given up – for his father was a miner, and his father’s father was a miner, and his father’s father’s father was a miner, and so on as far back as he could remember. Just as all the firstborn males were named Korpsit, all the firstborn males were miners. That was the way it worked. However, Korpsit’s mother, Yaruff, who also helped in the mines, remained hopeful. She instilled in the young Goblin the belief he was meant for better.

When he was around 9, the mine his parents were working in collapsed, burying them, and many other Goblins, alive. This was not an uncommon occurrence, so nothing was done about it. Korpsit, brokenhearted, moved in with some of his relatives, also miners.

When he was 15, Korpsit was expected to begin his mining career. He did not. Instead, the Goblin traveled around, looking for the destiny he believed he deserved.

And he found it. There, in a wizarding village, he wondered at the quality of life. He fell in love with it, and decided, while devouring a half-eaten Fizzing Whizbee he’d found in the garbage, he was going to go into the candy business.

But they didn’t hire them. They didn’t even give him an application. None of the shops did – not the local newspaper, not the gardening store, not the pet store. The naive young Goblin was shunted about, spat at, and treated as if he lacked intelligence. Needless-to-say, Korpsit was angry. He busted a few windows, stole a couple Chocolate Frogs, and then there was the wand shop…

Korspit went to jail.

While in jail, he met some other very angry Goblins. United by blood and cause, they became friends, and the others told him of secret rebel groups, all over Europe. And so, for the next 20-some years, Korsit rebelled, went to jail again, and rebelled some more. His name became well-known in the surrounding villages, and his damage so costly and widespread, the people banded together and kicked him out of the country.

It was then that Korpsit realized his rebel groups weren’t getting anywhere. That Goblins were never going to get anywhere. And so he made some bigger and stronger “friends” with similar interests, and got himself his first job at Arkie Alderton’s Kwik-Repair Shop.
