We all from the first book have a thought that Neville a goofy boy but at the 5th book we all were surprised to the sudden courage of Neville. I say that Neville is a real wizard and he has a courge. The Sorting hat chosed him to be in Gryfindore. His courge was under veil but the hat found it and let him go to this house. When Voldemort raised again and the DA was established, Neville went and also he wasn't oo good but it's enough to have the courge to go and learn new things to fight Death Eathers. He also went with Harry to fight Voldemort. His courage appeared in the difficult times. He must be sure of him self because when he does he will be a great wizard. I think Neville will be more sure and his courge will appear more and more.

I like Neville, i always have, sometimes i cheer for the underdog bcuz they get no respect sometimes, Neville falls into the catagory of "you are what you think." If he thinks poorly of himself that is what he is going to be. But once he got just a boost of self confindence look at what he did. He learned something faster than know-it-all Hermione.

and i tend to agree with you. He has been getting better and better with each book, and it will be interesting to see him with a proper wand, what he can really do, and i think he may play a bigger role than some think in the last two books.

u hit the nail on the head! omg u totally explained my theory of who the half blood prince is! neville is becoming noticed even more in each book, and kind of changing in ways too. but no one could forget the forgetful clumsy part of him too (lol we dont blame u neville!) thank u for making that point!

i thought that too!!! cuz the prophecy thing and what ever Dumbledore said he shall mark him as his equal...but Voldmort never marked him, that night he went to kill him, so it might be Neville, not Harry, but then why wud the series be called Harry Potter ? ? ? maybe it's one of those twists things authors do to make our brains hurt when we thing about it too much!>> ? ? ? ? ? ooo-weee-ooo... Yes, I agree with the first post. Neville's probably in the sotry for a much bigger reason than most people think. I mean, he was so close to being "the boy who lived", so close to replacing Harry. In the last book, I think he will help Harry a lot in different ways that we don't know yet.

I think Neville was put in Gryffindor for a reason... the last two books have shown us that Neville is becoming more a man then a forgetful sap....... He will be a good man to have around in the end.... Neville is growing up and becoming more independent....

I like your thinking!

I think Neville will play some part in the whole plot. He did start changing in OoTP. He was becoming braver and learning spells better and such. I really don't think he was put under a spell to forget anything. Maybe repress it. Not sure. So I really can't wait to see how he fits in the end.

I think Neville has proved how he got into Gryffindor, though he's timid and afraid, he digs up courage in the end. He gains more and more bravery in each book, and he appears in each book more and more, so I think he's an important character. Neville is going to be like his father and you proved that because the wand fits the ownber. He's going to be great in the end!

i think that the prophecy doesn't only talk about harry. I think that the prophecy has a part saved for neville that would give him some powers or advantages for him to be able to help hary find all the horcruxes and finally kill voldemort.

imagine , Neville's parents are in st.mungos because of Dead Eaters Torture.
why torture? its a secret and I think we will know about in in 7th book.
crouch has dead and now just Lestranges, Neville should kill them

Talking Nevile's role

although u do make a good point about the prophacy and Nevile's role. i do however have to disagree i dnt believe that Nevile has a part in the prophacy any more coz Dumbly has already cleared this up wen Harry asked "so it cud be Nevile" and Dumbly says no coz Voldy has already marked Harry as his equal-thy are both ophens-both half blood etc.

I hope however that poor Nevile does get his revange on Ballatrix, in the OoTP Nevile worked even harder in the DA coz he heard she escaped from Azkaban.

Go Nevile!!!

That's the sound of my bubble bursting.

I came here today to see if my latest theory had been discussed yet. I found that not only has it been discussed:

I guess great minds really do think alike...

One thing these other great minds didn't mention is that someone (I forget who) who had known Bertha Jorkins before she was put under the Obliviate Charm described her as having had a mind like a steel trap when it came to remembering gossip.

Then, of course, we have the incredible coincidence of Neville being given a mimbulus mimbletonia and that being the new Gryffindor password. I wonder if Neville's going to find out Stinksap can reverse his condition, or maybe that of his parents.

very well done. i agree that neville has lots more to prove, and in this last book, the final battle, hes going to show his true self, hes gona step out of that comfort bubble and do something drastic that will b crucial to harry and how the battle turns out

On JK's website it says that neville will play a role in book 7. I reckon that Harry will tell Neville about the prophecy and Neville will give his life to save harry or defeat Voldemort or sommat. I don't know. But Neville is gonna make a difference. Byexxx

We learned early on that a wand is fit to its owner, and that using someone else's wand offers less control (SS, Ch. 5). Neville had been using his father's wand up until the end of OotP …Fawkes lost a feather in OotP... where Dumbledore gets Fawkes’ signal (OotP, Ch. 22), but that could mean that Neville could get a wand with a phoenix feather, and imagine how powerful an ally to Harry he could be!
It'll definitely be a help.

Quote:
As for having his memory modified, this is a possibility. But I think that Neville did see his parents tortured (or maybe he heard their screams) because of his reaction in DADA when the Cruciatus Curse was being performed on the enlarged spider. His clumsiness and forgetfulness could have been a result of him witnessing the traumatic event and trying to find a way to cope with it.

Either way, we will have to wait and see what JKR will reveal!
He's obviously going to be part of the team-effort that finally destroys Voldemort

It was either Sirius or Lupin when Harry was talking to them through the fireplace

Good theory, but I have the same sort of problem remembering things when they lie outside of my interest-field/s (E.g. Ask me about music or sound-engineering, and I'll be able to recite what I've learned over the years almost verbatum, ask me about the history of Hitler and all I'll be able to tell you is that he was German and he hated the Jews - which may/may not be completely true)
Therefore, Neville could have remembered the password if it had been anything to do with herbology, as it is his favourite subject.
