Default DADA Lesson 2 - TRrRRRooOOLLLllLLl in the DuuuNGeons

It's not quite as early a lesson as you'd usually have with the Headmaster but it's before lunch. Hopefully that breakfast fuel hasn't worn off by now because with two hours to go--one of them to be spent here--Trent will be expecting you all at your best. Did you refresh yourself on the rules? Do you have anything ELSE that's gone wrong around the castle you feel he NEEDS to know about? Feel free not to wait til he's back and comfy in his office. No really, better to rip the bandaid off now.

Approaching the door to classroom 104, you'll notice a note that says the location of today's lesson has been changed to the dueling arena. Pick up your step, this notice doesn't make being late suddenly acceptable.

Over in the dueling arena, Malachi stands before a table stacked with clubs. Over and over he counts them, SURE he'd had enough but now there seemed to be at least three missing.

Circe sake. Was there anything not missing???

He appears only slightly agitated as you make your way into the room but will stop to greet you should you remember your manners and greet him first. This far into the term, he's already explained that while he isn't Scrimgeour, he does expect some form of acknowledgement when coming to his lesson.

The dueling arena is bare. All the dummies have been moved to the spare room leaving only the carpet beneath them and this table filled with clubs. Did you do the necessary readings? Have you practiced the spells for homework? They'd come in handy today.

OOC: Welcome back to Defense Against the Dark Arts!! Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24 hours

The lesson hasn't started yet.

CLASS HAS BEGUN!

As a matter of fact, Chloe was NOT feeling better, and she gave the Headmaster a skeptical look. Why was he even bringing it up? Chloe began to itch her arms again, which was annoying because she'd finally managed to forget about the itch.

"No, sir, I don't need any potions. It's feeling much better." She scratched at her arms before pinning them hard against her chest in a sort of self hug. "Clubs, right? We can use clubs to open very hard to open pickle jars. And to reach that itchy spot on your back that you can't reach with just your hands."

She retrieved a club and returned to her spot on the carpet, waiting for the rest of her classmates to prepare themselves for the next part of the lesson. Absently, Chloe gave the club a lick. Ew. Metallic. She licked it again.

He also wouldn't have hated if she said it was JUST Defense Against the Dark Arts but really it was all the same to him.

Still, it made things easier when the students were looking forward to the lesson.
Hanna had a brief pause and nodded, "Most of the time. Learning is fun, but I'm not so happy if I haven't slept well or eaten." Flashbacks to last term.

Hanna listened to the start of the lesson and did as instructed by getting herself a club. She pondered the question at hand. She listened to the answers around her and thought perhaps... well it might not work at all, but... that one story with the pink umbrella. She raised her hand. "If someone was so curious, could they incorporate their wand into the club, and turn the club into a magical device?"

'Umm..if there is a robber in your house and umm..you need to get him before he gets you..you can hit him on the head with a club..,' she said, remembering particularly memorable scenario of her sister hitting a robber who had broken into their house with a club. 'My sister has done it..,'she added, now feeling slightly stupid.

He was expecting that response the moment he asked the question. Granted, he wasn't expecting it from a Ravenclaw necessarily but the man wasn't picky.

Hitting was a valid response...

Just...

"If there's a robber, Parker....I don't suggest....a club isn't.....that's dangerous." He finally settled on. "What happens if he wrestles the club from you, or if he had from her. The situation could've been far worse. In future, there are safer and more effective ways of dealing with burglaries." Malachi didn't even wanna think of how it could've gone.

SPOILER!!: Archer

And she hadn't had time to journey to the hospital wing for it, as she'd, unfortunately, slept through her first couple of classes and woken up with only enough time for a quick shower and gathering of her supplies. Luckily, she'd done all that and made it here on time and so was here for the instructions.

Anyway, what could one use a club for....? "Some forms of law enforcement use them as weapons," she answered while she retrieved a club and sat down again. Actually, she was getting another idea. It seemed that along with the random fur patches came weird cravings. Like one for the wooden instrument in her hand. "Or, or, or we could eat them!" she exclaimed before attempting to do just that. Only, the second she bit into it, she ended up with splinters in both her gums and her tongue. And there was some bleeding....

"OW!"

Not a good idea.

He hadn't been down installing the virtues of proper burglary prevention in Parker when he heard the "ow". Sure, he'd heard something about law enforcement too but what REALLY got him was the way Calrissian put the club in her mouth and took a bite out of it.

Thankfully, the clubs weren't covered in uneven sides that could cause too much harm. He saw the bleeding but wasn't worried. The sides of the clubs were almost smooth, it wouldn't have caused too much damage. They weren't crudely made. "Calrissian, that is NOT food!" He reprimanded, a bit stronger than he'd intended for it to come out but the man was honestly floored when it came to why she thought making a snack out of their class activity was OKAY.

He drew his wand and gestured the Hufflepuff closer. Simple stuff he could handle. Merlin knew his own kids got themselves recklessly hurt all the time. "Let's have a look."

SPOILER!!: Jackson

He blinked at her, trying to register what had just happened. “I’d wager that’s not how we’re using those today,” he added. “There are certain muggle sports that use them or a version of them… like cricket or golf.” Club now in hand, Jackson moved out of the way, taking care of the itch that had just developed on his back. “Or you can use it as a last resort backscratcher.”

"Wish you'd started with that." Honestly. "Saying books are missing isn't nearly the same thing as "it's bare"." The boy was a Ravenclaw, surely he could see the issue with wording and the implication of both.

But now wasn't the time for that. "I'll have a look after the lesson, I suppose." Or get the librarian to. Books and all. Her territory really.

He creased his brows at the boy. Again, he'd heard the response but it was the boy's actions that distracted him. "Are you....are you itchy too?" The mention of a back scratcher while scratching said back....it honestly reminded him a little of Kettleburn.

SPOILER!!: Daisy

Daisy went and grabbed herself a club and that's when she saw fellow Hufflepuff, Archer bite into a club, Daisy's eyes widened in shocked disbelief. She then gave the Headmaster a bemused look. As for the question posed to the class, Daisy bit her lip in thought. What if she repeated an answer? She raised her hand slowly. "Maybe if someone is trapped inside a house that's on fire, then a type of club can be used by firefighters to gain access to the house."

Daisy quickly put her hand down after saying her answer, looking rather embarrassed.

Right. Of course. The Headmaster nodded his response. These things took time. However much time she needed, Swann could keep seeing the Healer and they could get that sorted.

"Firefighters, if I remember correctly, usually have axes and other sharp, blunt objects on them to get into burning buildings. You're not wrong, a club could definitely be one of them. Just some extra information."

While they were in this learning environment.

SPOILER!!: Dorian

While he waited for class to start, Dorian could not help but overhear the conversation between Jackson and the Headmaster. Curious, the fifteen year old got a few steps closer to listen while pretending to be casually looking around. The books in the study room had vanished? Dorian frowned..... interesting.

Walking to the table, the Ravenclaw saw in the corner of his blue eyes that one of the Hufflepuffs was BITING one of the wooden clubs and he turned his head to stare at her before shaking his head in disbelief. Picking up one of the clubs from the table, he inspected it in his hands. "Perhaps you can defend yourself by blocking certain spells?...then again i guess you need to have very good accuracy to know where a spell is aimed at your body so ...." He scratched the top of his head, definitely unsure of his answer. "Nevermind..." Holding the club behind his back, he walked back to his previous spot

"Absolutely." Not agreeing to the suggestion but to the reasoning why it couldn't work. Quite sharp this one, checking his answer as he offered it. Didn't miss a beat. It would probably serve him well in the long run--provided he lived long enough to think about his responses and change them.

"It'd be real risky business going up against someone with only a club and hoping to block whatever they throw at you. That aside, many spells affect a wide area on a person. Even if you managed to lock in where your opponent is aiming, the club may not be nearly enough. Good catch on that one." Most probably wouldn't realize the problem the moment they said things.

SPOILER!!: Zoryn

Especially if the risk included getting tagged as a ‘teacher’s pet’ something she actively was not.

Which only made itself more and more evident, as she had not read the chapter assignment. Nor did she practice the spell, but after 6.2 years she was starting to get real good at improvising. So all was well…. Hopefully.

The Gryffindor wasted no time walking up to grab herself a club because HOLY COOL. She could kill a man with one of these… Worth trying to sneak away with one at the end of the lesson. As for the question, “could come in handy if you’ve ever gotta get someone to shut up the hard way, give ‘em a deserving whack in the head.” Just saying.

That’s what Zoryn would use it for.

Speaking of which, did that Hufflepuff girl (Archer) need a whack in the head to bring her to her senses? ‘Cause no offense, but what the hell? Zoryn would be HAPPY to offer her assistance. Pick her Professor!!! She’s got this!

He opened his mouth to reply. Closed it. Opened it....then closed it again.

...

"I..."

....

"Let's not hit any of our classmates today, no matter how deserving and how desperately we need them to be quiet or how undesirable their behaviour may be." Like Calrissian and the club just now. Just. Don't. "Let's not do it tomorrow or the next day either. Let's just never." Had to cover his bases with this one.

She went up and grabbed a club, "As mentioned before it could be good for wacking someone coming after you." Maybe the fifth year had contemplating trying it on her younger siblings when they refused to listen with the plastic one they had at home... "Perhaps if you don't know a spell to protect yourself or whoever it was managed to get your wand away from you?"

Though it might be silly, it was her best guess.

And another for hitting people. At least this one didn't have the ....er....abrasive reputation that would lead him to think it needed to be addressed immediately.

"While not ideal, yes. You could hit someone that was coming after you. Just be sure they aren't stronger and able to easily take the club and turn the tables."

That would be....unfortunate, to say the least.

The sixth year didn't particularly like the idea of everyone having clubs in class, particularly because that Zoryn girl looked and sounded all too eager to use hers, but she picked one out of the bunch and observed it as those around her answered the question at hand. How could you put this...tool to use? Hm.

"I suppose you could use it to break into places, or out, depending. It'd be particularly useful for breaking glass. That's if you couldn't use your magic, though." If you had a wand instead, why wouldn't you just use that?

Oh good, nothing to report. "Splendid." One less thing he would have to somehow sort out today. Until he found out what was causing these disappearances, he could never really let his guard down. Nothing was safe--except for whatever Mallari owned, apparently.

What was her secret and how did he adapt it to the rest of the school?

Her answer was...interesting. No more or no less distressing than one or two others, just...interesting. "It would be particularly useful for glass and break ins. Personal experience? Wait. I'm not sure if I'm obligated to take action. No confessions. I change my mind--unless you know more about the hourglasses than you're letting on, WHICH let me just say again to everyone," He paused to face the class again. "I won't be angry, I won't yell, just come clean." And that concluded his public announcement.

SPOILER!!: Chase

He watched a few other students pour into the classroom after him and then the lesson began.

Yes, Chase had done his homework and required reading. He had even read the chapter twice to better prepare himself for the lesson. His personal goals with OWLS looming over his head was to make sure that he was on top of his game when it came to studying. Though he hadn't been expecting the Headmaster to ask them to come up and select a club. Hmm... He wondered what the Headmaster would want them to do with it... Hopefully not swing and hit something... As the Headmaster asked for reasons on why they would need this muggle instrument, he paused and waited, listening to his peers' feedback. His jaw dropped when he saw a Hufflepuff girl bite the club. He blinked at her, utterly confused by her actions.

Was this the affect of Hufflepuff's not being able to go into the Kitchen? Would Hufflepuffs just start eating everything around them... Then again maybe that's why things were disappearing... He sorely doubted that his thought was factual but it was a fun fantasy to imagine. Heh.

Now back to the question at hand... Yes, you could hit things and people with it if you'd like too... He made a note not to upset Zoryn for fear of her swinging a club in the air and hitting him with a club. "If it was long enough, you could probably use it as a walking stick to help balance yourself. Or if it was wide enough, you could probably use like a hammer with enough force...?"

Yes, he was a little bit out there with the suggestions but maybe that'd work?

"Both very true." He conceded. Didn't know why anyone would use a weapon of force as a walking stick but it didn't make the answer wrong. [b]"The hammer is a bit more on the mark, especially in light of today's topic but we'll get into that in a moment.

Right now his attention was being pulled by Kettleburn licking her club.

"Don't get any ideas." He warned, turning to face the Head Girl. After what happened with Calrissian, he didn't NEED anyone else trying to take a bite out of the equipment.

"Not sure I'd use it for a pickle jar if I wanted the pickles in it after but to each their...own...." Was she back to scratching at her arms?

"I thought you said you were fine?" Because once again, she was now making HIM itch.

SPOILER!!: Hanna

Well that was an interesting question. Rather than jump right into it, the man paused a moment to really think it over. Ravenclaws tended to try theories as much as Gryffindors did. If this one DID try anything, he didn't want it to be at the expense of her wand.

"Yes...and no." Was a good place to start.

"You wouldn't want to put your wand into anything, in case you can't get it out after. Just bad practice." Dangerous stuff. "But what you could do is incorporate magic into your club to make it strong, harder...whatever you wanted. Runes in particularly would be a good choice there. Runic magic. Very stable, very reliable."

"Moving on!" Away from certain people's thoughts of smacking others silly. He'd be a proper questionable Headmaster if he allowed that sort of thing, but he would allow some hitting...in a minute.

"Based on the reading, I'm sure you're all aware that today's lesson will be on trolls. They usually have their own sorts of clubs and they vary in intelligence and type but we'll get into that in a minute." This wasn't the time for recap. That would come when it absolutely needed to just to keep it fresh in their minds. "Today, you all have your own clubs. You will use these to get rid of a little problem that we're about to have."

With a flick of his wand, a side door within the dueling arena swung open and little trolls began marching...marching...hobbling...stumbling--they were moving and doing the best they could, okay?? They were making their way from the room in droves.

"You'll have to use your clubs to hit them. Hit them as hard as you can. Don't hold back. No worries about hurting them, they're simply a manifestation of magic. Don't hit them hard enough and you'll see why they're a problem." They came equipped with their own clubs and while they didn't posses the same strength as a real troll, or the size being only knee high, those clubs did hurt a bit. Not enough to break bones, but just enough to make you not wanna get hit a second time if you were unfortunate enough the first time.

"Begin."

The trolls poured into the room, dull eyed and ready to begin swinging. Some where already swinging, some were picking their noses.

The cluster of them moved toward the students with grunts.

They were ready to whack and smack as was the nature put into them

Were the students ready?

OOC: Mini activity tiiiime! Like was mentioned, have your students swinging and smacking the mini-trolls. Imagine whack-a-mole but with moving targets that swing back and do hurt a bit. I'll post with little prompts for you guys to have trolls as often as I can and you all will have about 60 - 72 hrs to whack as many of them as you can. Or not. Whatever works for you and your charrie ^^

Okaaaaaay, that was a fair point.

Safely and fortunately for Laila, it had worked. 'Well..I agree with you..it could have gone either way..luckily for her, he didn't notice her get up, so she sneaked behind him in the dark and hit him on the head, knocking him out,' she said, shrugging.

Oh wow! What now? Trolls??? As she started attacking the lot with her club, one of them hit her on the back.

'OUCH!!!!,' she yelled, and she proceeded to hit that little one on the head with a club.

DIIIINGG!!!!!

She felt something on the top of her head. Uh-oh, she had got hit on the head. She felt everything blacking out.Her vision was blurring out.

She fell to the floor with a loud thud.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy firmly gripped her club like a Beater's Bat and waited for the mini-trolls to advance towards her. Just as she was about to administer her first strike, she heard a loud thud near her and saw Laila, the young Ravenclaw lying on the floor. She rushed over to her but not before firmly whacking two trolls and ducking to miss another one.

Daisy couldn't really do anything for Laila so she got back up and gave Headmaster Trent a concerned look. This lapse of concentration earned Daisy a whack on the leg which made her swing her club with anger.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Holding the club behind his back, Dorian nodded his head as the Headmaster spoke. He agreed that his answer had been lacking. He also made a mental note to stay away from Zoryn during the lesson cause of her answer. He didn't doubt she would *accidentally* hit someone with a club under the pretense that she had been aiming at something else. It looked like the thing she would do in his mind so yup...he moved to the other side of the room.

Unfortunately for him, the side that he had chosen happened to be the side where the Headmaster pulled open a door and he shrieked when the little trolls came rushing in. NOPE! The Ravenclaw changed direction and hastily walked to the back.

Could he hide behind someone who wasn't Zoryn ? He would tell them where to swing ....was he trying to avoid the activity? Pffft no

....yes

Was anyone else giggling? She looked around but didn't care if they were, those trolls made her giggle and she was going to giggle. Her hand was up at her mouth to try to muffle it though. They were kind of cute as well, but the third year was ready to hit them. She knew they weren't real so it wouldn't hurt and she had some third-year aggression she was ready to get out.

When it was time to start she moved towards one and took a good wack at it. The magical object didn't seem to like it and took a swing, but she had jumped away in time. Wow did they seem real, but thankfully they weren't or Chloe probably would have been knocked out by one of their clubs.

The club was different than a beaters bat, but still, she gripped it like she did in that tryout and went after her next one. This time trying to sneak up on it better. Tiptoeing behind it she raised her club and took another swing.

Let's not hit any of our classmates today, no matter how deserving and how desperately we need them to be quiet or how undesirable their behaviour may be.

Blah, blah, blah.

Zoryn would make no promises.

But there wasn't much time to dwell on what she would or would not do because no sooner had Trent finished his speech that Trolls began making their way around the dueling arena. And y'know what Zoryn had to say about all of this? "BRING. IT. ON!"

Because here's the thing.

Clubs? They were pretty much a beater's bat. And you know what Zoryn was? She was a beater. A pretty good one, at that. Very aggressive. Super abrasive. So this activity was right up her alley. The seventh year didn't waste a moments time before chasing after trolls and WHACKING them on the head as hard as her Quidditch strength allowed her to. TAKE THAT.

She'd just pretend that they were all Anna Meriwether. Easy.

Sarah thinks I'm cute | Shan's safe space.

It was official:

This was the BEST LESSON EVERRRRRRR.

Józef couldn't quite believe his luck. Whilst not a beater, he still enjoyed wacking a few bludgers in training and getting to hit little magically-created trolls as part of a lesson?! Well, his grudge against Headmaster Trent was starting to lessen.

Just a little, though - he'd officially be annoyed until Gryffindor were top of the Quidditch table.

Weighing the club in his hand for a moment before tightening his grip, Jó weaved through students toward the oncoming trolls. He was READY. And they were the perfect height for hitting on the head. "YES." He exclaimed the first time his bat made contact, followed soon by a very angry "OW!" as another trolls club smacked into his ankle.

Wait, what? Vita felt her face grow hot. Of course she didn't know about using a club to break in from experience. "Sir, I wouldn't-it was only an example, I promise." As for the hourglasses, she had nothing to do with that, either. Yikes.

Happy to do anything other than answer questions that gave the headmaster of all people the wrong idea about her, the sixth year raised her wooden club and headed towards the first couple little trolls she could reach. This was an excellent way to pass the time as far as she was concerned and she whacked at the first troll with all her might, following up with a sweeping hit towards the second.

Oh wow! What now?

The troll staggered and stumbled when it was hit, but it wasn’t hit nearly hard enough to disappear in a puff of smoke like it was meant to. Now it had company. Other little trolls that wanted to take full advantage of her suddenly being on the floor.

A small swarm appeared.

He didn’t know how Parker managed to get hit in the head by something up to her knee and unable to jump but somehow the First Year had and somehow she was now on the floor with trolls gathering round.

Malachi grimaced at the sight, unsure what aspect he was more unimpressed with considering the trolls didn’t hit nearly hard enough to knock a person unconscious—but she was on the ground and in for quite the knocking about if she stayed there so grabbing his own club, the man gave each troll that appeared a firm whack to the head. Each disappeared with a poof.

The Headmaster got down on one knee and nudged the girl firmly but carefully. “On your feet, Parker. Come on, shake it off.” Did she have some pre-existing head condition? That would’ve been nice to have on file somewhere. It was the only explanation. These trolls didn’t have the capacity to knock a person out—or the height for that matter. Bruised knees were a more present danger.

Either way, there were more trolls coming so she needed to regain her footing and get her club ready.

Malachi caught the concerned look from Swann and gave her a reassuring one in return. The first year on the floor was a concern but a mild one. He would take care of it. Best she focus on the trolls headed her way.

This troll had barely swung his club when the knock from the Hufflepuff’s club caused it to disappear into a puff on smoke.

It’s like it was never there.

She shouldn’t get comfortable though, three more headed her way, each violently waving their bats about.

Pffft no

....yes
Running would not be enough, in fact, running earned him the attention of a small gang of trolls who had been otherwise stumbling around and minding their own business. Now, the four turned to him. They scampered over, one taking a hard whack at his knee and another toward his shin.

Whatchu gonna do, son?

When it was time to start she moved towards one and took a good wack at it. The magical object didn't seem to like it and took a swing, but she had jumped away in time. Wow did they seem real, but thankfully they weren't or Chloe probably would have been knocked out by one of their clubs.

The club was different than a beaters bat, but still, she gripped it like she did in that tryout and went after her next one. This time trying to sneak up on it better. Tiptoeing behind it she raised her club and took another swing.
The little troll didn’t have the faintest clue that she was coming, it stood idly, one finger up its nose while his other hand hung limp with his club. This was a good booger and it felt good picking it—poof! The hit was hard enough and it was gone in a second.

Did she notice the one sneaking up behind her while she was sneaking up behind its friend? It very much existed and very much swung at the back of her legs.

Bring it on????

OKAY!

The girl’s yell had earned her the attention of quite a few trolls. Noises. Always go toward the noises. But this was weird. She was chasing THEM! Two poofed into clouds of smoke under the swing of her club but they wouldn’t surrender! They could not surrender! Three trolls ran at her head on, each swinging wildly while they did. This was waaarrr!

Yes. His ankle. Add another hit there and one to the back of his left knee. The troll waved its friends over, before taking another swing at the boy. It was soon joined by two more. They didn’t have a special formation, hitting was just in their nature and if they could get him to the floor like some earlier had managed with the one in blue, he would make a good target too.

The first troll didn’t see it coming. It was sudden. It was swift. It was while it was picking its nose and that just wasn’t fair.

The troll disappeared with a poof but the second caught on in a split second and raised its own club to defend it. Bouncing from impact, it slammed its club by her feet, hoping to get at least one of them.

The third jumped to action too, swinging wildly in her direction. This was for having no respect for the boogers!

Of course it was a hectic class why wouldn’t it be? Every time Patrick stepped foot in this classroom they were either running down a lake or they were chasing trolls he was so ready to not have a “hectic” class. Sighing he moved further in the room after taking a few deep breaths to calm his breathing.

He would have contributed to the answers on using a club but all of his thoughts were muggle based and he was fairly certain that he wouldn’t have to strike invaders any time soon. Instead he listened to the other students answers.

Once he heard what they were doing he felt his day go straight down the drain. Now he would have to hit trolls. At least he knew he could connect. But he was slightly worried he might hurt them. Taking a deep breath he grabbed the club like he would a baseball bat. Raising it up he watched as the “mini trolls” entered the room and began to take swings at the ones coming near him. He made contact with two and felt a small smile grace his face at his success.

They would be using the clubs like hammers? Chase paused, tilting his head to the left a little wondering what he had meant. He stayed silent instead of asking another question. Yes, trolls was the subject. Interesting. And then the Headmaster explained that they would be using the clubs against the tiny trolls that were moving rather roughly throughout the classroom.

Chase gripped the club in his hand a little tighter before loosening his grip a little as if he was holding a baseball bat. He took a few practice swings before waiting for a troll to come near him. As he waited, he glanced around him, searching for the nearest troll. AH. Gotcha! He thought as he swung his club towards the nearest charging troll. Then he readied himself for another attack.

Must. Stay. Alert.

Valencia chewed her lip and moved the club between her hands a little awkwardly. Um. Sorry. What? She was supposed to hit those creatures with a weapon.

The first year was really uncomfortable with that.

She continued chewing her lip. Really? Some of them were picking their nose. How much harm could that really cause?

There was a silent meep when one approached her. She swung the bat tentatively toward the arm of the mini!troll.

Well that made sense, what he was saying. Unless it had broken, perhaps. Runes was a great suggestion, and something that Hanna was now thinking about. Not to do anything about. At least not anything that wasn't experimental only. But rather than suggest anything, and being on a watch list, she just nodded thoughtfully and said "Runes, of course!" It was one branch of magic that she didn't feel came naturally to her, and therefore sometimes forgo about its benefits.

As the theory turned practical, Hanna jumped up in time to see the little trolls coming in. They appeared very uncoordinated, and almost humorous, if it weren't for them swinging their clubs around. Uncoordinated and small aside, it would obviously hurt to be struck by one. Still holding onto the club she had picked up, she stood and looked around her. There were lots of the little buggers. She had her bat resting on her shoulder as she headed towards one of them. Swinging the bat, she took a cracking swing at it to bop it. Beating practice, though she wasn't a beater, was dead useful.

The question of uses for a club hadn’t been lost on Stasya, but she’d stayed quiet nonetheless. Besides using it as a sort of base for a torch, she honestly didn’t see herself using a club in any way at all. Even if she did collect one when they’d been instructed to, and of course she’d done the reading for the lesson. She might’ve been curled up in Cygnus’ stall at the time, but she’d done it. She completely understood the troll connection too. Trolls used clubs, but then usually they were a lot larger than even someone her height so the lesson had to be mostly hypothetical.

Or it involved mini!trolls, which she nearly found adorable. Minus the little clubs that obviously were meant to hurt them. The announcement that they were manifestations of magic hardly surprised her either. It was like the fake!hinkypunks, which were way different from them being forced to face actual real life red caps. In a way, she was reminded of Professor Hirsch’s lessons, aside from the fact they weren’t using magic against the magic!mini!trolls.

All she had to do was remind herself that they weren’t really creatures. Or she could pretend they were either grindylows or inferi, which, actually, worked really well on a psychological defensive standpoint. If anything, she was prepared when she saw the first small club swinging at her shin, and she swept her club around to try to whack the offending mini!troll away. Troll!cricket maybe?

While one had promptly disappeared at the hard knock from the boy's club, the other spun a few times in a dazed state before finding it's footing again. It grunted at him and swung his own club in retaliation.

In the middle of its constant swinging, it waved its club gesturing for others to come to its aid for their fallen brother. Four trolls descended quickly, each with their club at the ready.

The loud thud was confirmation enough that she'd hit her target, but only the one. It disappeared swiftly in a puff of smoke but this didn't deter the other two.

Not at all.

The one to the left took a mighty swing at her shin just as the other tried to bring its club down on her foot. The one that disappeared was immediately replaced by another that came running in a goofy, fumbly fashion. It was ready!

The troll he'd knocked out of the way didn't quite get hit the way it needed to, causing it to stagger sideways and trip. It shook its head, trying to regain itself. At that point, another dashed forward with a few loud grunts of dissatisfaction.

He'd hit his friend, this was WAAARR.

Much like the one over by the Slytherin Captain, this one waved its club to call in reinforcements. Clumsily, two others hobbled over. The one on the ground regained his footing, ready to begin again.

She called that a swing? THIS was a swing. After easily knocking her half heartedly swung club away, the troll brought down its own club as hard as it could by her feet.

SMASH SMASH SMASH!! It kept swinging with no signs of stopping.

Best give it a real swing because company was on the approach. Four more to be exact.

The bop of her wand was immediately followed by a soft popping sound as the troll disappeared in a puff of smoke. It hadn't seen her coming, but its friends did and they immediately jumped on the offensive...save the one still picking its nose with its back turned. Priorities, y'know?

The ones that DID turn their attention to her came in with their clubs already swinging.

She DID managed to knock the troll away. It fell and tumbled a few steps but it didn't disappear as it was intended to. Perhaps a firmer and more grounded whack would see him on his way.

At the moment, however, he was the last of her concerns. All the rolling sent him into a pair of trolls who turned to her immediately.

Both ran at her with clubs swinging, one taking aim at her knee when they got close enough.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Not at all.

The one to the left took a mighty swing at her shin just as the other tried to bring its club down on her foot. The one that disappeared was immediately replaced by another that came running in a goofy, fumbly fashion. It was ready!

Daisy's eyes were ablaze with anger and her teeth were gritted with fierce determination. As the troll on her left swung at her shin, Daisy took a quick step back and swung as hard as she could. Wham! Her club made contact with the troll that tried to get her shin.

However, she couldn't stop her foot from being hit by the other troll. Her eyes glistening with tears of pain and fury, Daisy let the troll know just exactly how upset she was by whacking the troll on the head.

Now for the third troll. Daisy was getting a bit puffed and sweaty but she wasn't going to be beaten. She faced the troll and swung hard making contact with its' torso.

The third jumped to action too, swinging wildly in her direction. This was for having no respect for the boogers!

The triumph of dealing a direct blow to the first troll was short lived, as the second's little club hit her right on the top of her left foot. "Ow!" She jumped, a brief flash of anger crossing her face before she brought her own club down hard in its general direction.

She saw the third troll coming, but the sixth year was prepared, raising her club overhead and waiting until it was close to take a swing. This was kind of theraputic in a way, did the headmaster know?

The fifth year couldn't help wrinkling her nose at the little creatures. Honestly, would there ever be a day she came to this class and didn't feel so uneasy?

...

Well, no probably not, considering when it came to fights or threats she'd learn she was a very flighty person and would rather just run away than try to cast a spell or fight anyone. She was a gentle hufflepuff who wished no ill will towards anyone, real or fake...

And yeah, she was well aware she would probably die one day because of this.

But turning her attention back to the nasty little trolls and took a step forward, seeing how the classmates who hung back seemed to be pestered even more by the things. Squaring one up that seemed to be a bit further from the swarm she went towards it and took a firm swing...

And missed it completely...

Why couldn't she even do this?

The girl’s yell had earned her the attention of quite a few trolls. Noises. Always go toward the noises. But this was weird. She was chasing THEM! Two poofed into clouds of smoke under the swing of her club but they wouldn’t surrender! They could not surrender! Three trolls ran at her head on, each swinging wildly while they did. This was waaarrr!

Zor was absolutely living her best life right now. If only every class could be like Quidditch 2.0. This was honestly better than every flying lesson they have had this year. AND this was GREAT practice for their upcoming match. If only recruiters could've come to see this!!!

And the three trolls running her way were only amping up her enthusiasm, causing her to swing even HARDER at them. ONE. TWO. THREE. She'd whack them ALL!!!!!!

The Gryffindor inched closer and closer to the center of the room, too. Trolls? She wanted ALL of them.

Come to mama!!!!!!!!

Grinning Chloe couldn't help but be excited that she was able to get one. Now if she could get more that would be even better. She had no clue one was coming up behind her, but she was looking around in front of her when she saw one going at Vita. "VITA WATCH OUT!"

They were allowed to help each other, right? She hoped so and went towards her older friend to try and help, but before she could take another step she felt the pain go up her leg. It wasn't a hard enough hit to break anything, but it still hurt.

"OWWWWWWWWW"

What the bloody.... "You little..."

Turning on her heel she took a big swing at the troll that had hit her. She was swinging as hard as she could and she hoped she could send it flying through the air.

Whatchu gonna do, son?
some where way too excited for this lesson but Dorian could not see the charm in hitting a bunch of trolls with a club. No matter if they were a manifestation or not. The teenager looked around at the chaos while gripping the club in his hands, ready to swing it. He knew that he sometimes had to do things he did not like, especially because he needed a good participation grade in DADA.

Spotting the four trolls coming his way, Dorian stopped running away and was about to spin around and whack them when his knee was hit. Gasping because that hurt! Dorian swung his club wildly without aim. Another hit against his shin made him stumble forward before he fell on his knees.

He wasn't giving up though and even while he was on the ground the Ravenclaw swung his club at the trolls while getting back up on his feet.

Could they stop now, please? T____T

Hanna had a brief moment of triumph as she watched the troll disappear in a puff of smoke. She didn't know the fake trolls did that, but it was cool. Even more so that she had made it do just that. But it was only a brief moment, because whilst she was watching one troll picking its nose, as she was telling it off by saying "Stop picking your nose! Your finger might fall off," and taking a swing at it, she felt hard hits down her legs.

"Oww!" she cried, looking at the offended trolls that were now ransacking her. "Leave me alone!" She took a swinging hit at as many of them as she could, aiming for their heads, and at some aiming at their legs. Put off there balance and all.
