Default DADA Lesson 2 - Bubble Wonderland~

It's almost time for the holidays and while the classroom isn't decked out like Santa's vacation house, the Headmaster has sought to add a ....decorative touch to the room this afternoon. Indeed, when you walk in, it looks more like a bubble wonderland of sorts and less like a place where learning will take place.

Only knowledge of the Headmaster and his penchant for making you learn regardless will keep you grounded and stave off those frivolous hopes of a free period. It was never going to happen. At this point, it's only a matter of what and how you'll be learning.

Malachi stands in the centre of the room void of desks or chairs. He seems to be in his own little world, creating bubbles that float around the room while light, cheerful French music floats in the background. The windows are all wide open, curtains drawn with light washing into the room. There are also several fountains that create their own bubbles.

Peaceful, isn't it?

OOC: Welcome to another DADA lesson!! Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24-28 hours

The lesson hasn't started yet!

CLASS HAS BEGUN!

Trapping someone in a giant bubble? That seemed pretty cool. Well, also a bit mean. He thought the things his classmates were saying made a lot of sense. If someone knew the proper way to get out of it then it wouldn't really be effective at all. He had a different thought, though, and he raised his hand. "Professor, is there anything that can get in and out? Can air still get in? I wouldn't want to trap someone in someplace with no air, even if they were being mean to me." He was going to assume, though, that even if someone was trapped in this bubble they'd still be able to breathe. In that case, he did have an advantage in mind. "They wouldn't be able to cast any more spells on you. If they tried they'd just hit the bubble and might bounce back on them instead." That's what he was picturing, anyway. Whether or not that was actually right he had no idea.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

The look she received from Trent was definitely not missed. By now, Claudine was used to any weird look she received from Professors- and fellow students- so she just shrugged this one off. It was quite unfortunate that such a spell couldn’t be used on fellows… but maybe on any family member annoying her, when she became of age, of course.

So she had been right when she had talked of the Ebublio jinx. It had only occurred to her that that was the one they’d be covering at the last minute. Claudine thought of a disadvantage but gave Daila a really appreciative look for her answer. If that’s how the spell worked, and the bubble didn’t stay in one place, then the person floating off in it could be gone for good. That would be perfection, especially if said person was strongly disliked.

The first year put her hand up. “Not being able to be popped by a physical force is a disadvantage, because of some reason where the caster is not able to cast the counter jinx.’’ Like maybe their wand broke or the counter jix just wouldn’t work.

Disadvantages? Easy, Kaiser could think of a few right there on the spot, but he picked one and went with that. He raised his hand just a bit, and answered.

"It is not a good stealth spell." Really, Kaiser was all about the stealth. Very fond of sneaking. "When you cast it, it makes a bright light, and also someone or something trapped in a bubble cannot be easily hidden if you are trying to sneak in or out of somewhere, especially if they float away. They are also still able to shout and alert others that you are there." Which would be no good, see?

"And an advantage..." He... did not have many of those. Ebublio didn't, in his mind, have many advantages at all. He had to think for a moment to come up with one on the spot, and even when he did, it didn't seem like a very strong answer. "If you disarm someone first, they have no choice but to wait until someone else releases them before they are free." He paused, reconsidered, and then added: "Unless they can do wandless magic."

Cecelia DID do some thinking about the spell, even though it was REALLY hard to find any disadvantages. Honestly, the idea of floating around inside a bubble was ACTUALLY kind of cool, though she certainly wasn't going to offer THAT up for the headmaster to comment on.

Hm...

"Well, I guess a disadvantage could be something like the spell not lasting for a long period of time or not being as strong as you'd hoped." She paused, then added. "Professor, how long DO the bubbles actually last?"

Lucas still had the bubble wand in his hand but he wasn’t paying it much attention when Trent started speaking. All of a sudden, his mind was trying to imagine this situation of trying to maintain eye contact while your opponent was knocked back. A small frown formed on his face and he wanted to ask even more but....... Trent was moving on.

Ebublio? He blinked a few times at the wand in his hand and then at the bubbles closest to him. This room was starting to make a lot more sense now. The bubbles weren’t there for just decoration, were they? If he had to guess, he’d probably say that they were going to produce them as well. And if it was just THAT for the lesson, he would be very happy, indeed.

But first, a disadvantage. His green eyes lingered on one of the bubbles closest to him and he watched it float around. It was peaceful, wasn’t it? But there was a disadvantage to using a spell like this and trapping your enemies in bubbles - even if it sounded like an easier option to him. Something other than what had been mentioned already by-

Oh!

He blinked a couple more times before raising his hand up in the air. "What about the size of what you want to trap?" Was this a lame answer? "I mean, it’s okay when it’s just a small creature but something as big as a......" A? "Dragon would be a lot more difficult to put in a bubble because of the sheer size." Pause. "I mean, not that you should use something like Ebublio against something like a dragon......"

Shut up, Dakest.

Phoebe patted her beard and winked at the Headmaster. Yup, it was a good one. He needed one too... did he mind?

Now more people were blowing bubbles, including Cece, and Phoebe scooted over to make a beard for her friend. Generosity. "If you trap someone with their wand, it isn't terribly useful. Maybe if you trap just them in the bubble. Or, OH, could you trap the wand in a bubble? How awesome if they're trying to catch and pop their wand while you're just pew, pew, pew tying them up?"

Avalon could think of several disadvantages to trapping someone in a bubble. First, the obvious fact that the bubble can't be popped by force alone. So if you lost your wand or for some reason couldn't cast a counter spell, the person would be stuck. Which might be good if you were dueling some evil wizard, but from what she had seen, most people used Ebulio as more of a prank. But since Trent alluded to the non-popping principle himself, she thought she'd offer a different point.

She raised her hand. "Can you control the height of the bubble once you cast it? This might be an advantage or a disadvantage based on how you look at it and whether or not you were fighting a dark wizard or just messing around. But if the bubble floated really high up, the target could be seriously injured once the bubble popped and they fell back down. You'd have to be ready with a slowing charm as soon as you performed the counter-jinx." What if you really couldn't control the height of the bubble, and you just floated all the way up into space? Have people ever gone missing due to Ebulio?

Biting his tongue, he made a few notes as the headmaster walked around the classroom and replied to the rest of the students in the classroom.

“Well, like you said professor, the jinx can be countered” He didn’t mean to state the obvious but the professor had answered his own question. It could be countered. “But I guess once someone is inside, it would depend on if they had a wand or not. A witch or wizard could use magic to get out I guess but some creatures may struggle more. It really depends on what you use it for” gesturing around now at the bubbles that still floated around the classroom. Honestly, he was just surprised at the fact things could breath in the bubble. Or could they? He’d never been in a bubble before so what did he know. “Hey professor, how do things breath inside the bubble?” he asked, his natural curiosity coming out now. He assumed that there was some way to breath inside otherwise there would be a bloody trail of deaths behind this jinx. Maybe he’d get someone to cast it on him to find out? Maybe the headmaster would do it! "Do you think you could jinx me with it? I wonder what it's like inside", the mischevious grin on his face now spreading wider and wider.

...Yes...it could be countered..."Most spells can be countered." He replied to the Ravenclaw, not at all impressed by the first attempt. "We still use them." Being able to be countered, while a disadvantage was also something generally factored in. "There are ways to avoid having your spells countered which even out the possibilities." The second half of his response, however, showed more promise.

"Wands would make a difference in how advantageous a jinx like this one would be, yes." As to how people breathed once inside, the boy would find the answer to be remarkably simple. "Magic keeps them breathing. It's a magical bubble. It easily permits air." So there was little need to worry there. Still a fairly harmless spell to cast, for better or worse.

The faintest smile graced the Headmaster's lips at the final question. "Patience, dear boy. Everything in it's own time." And that was all he'd say for now.

SPOILER!!: Khaine

In-fact, the boy was several chapters ahead on account of his habit of reading textbooks for fun... But he wasn't going to say that. He didn't want the other students to think he was weird. Maybe after 4 years of putting up with him they already knew that, but he wasn't going out of his way to advertise it.

Again, Razz' hand shot up at the question. He wasn't first to answer this time, but he'd make up for it by coming up with a really, really, really good answer... Or maybe he'd just whiff it completely and bring shame upon his house. Either way, he made his attempt. "Well, sir, one disadvantage could be that, as a counter-able jinx, anyone with any knowledge of it could probably escape the bubble rather quickly.. And seeing as we're being taught about it here, I'd wager we aren't likely to come across anyone wanting to do us harm that couldn't. In that way, It'd be more of a hindrance to a pursuer or a temporarily disabling move than a deescalation of a conflict. Unless the opponent was disarmed, maybe." He thought about it for a moment before continuing. "Although, any sort of creature that isn't capable of any outward magical effects would be unable to escape, I suppose that's an advantage. That it can't be escaped by physical means."

"Correct, again." Two for two, Khaine was on a mini Ravenclaw role, wasn't he? "It's a rather niche spell in that it won't come in handy in most situations that contain real danger. Not while your opponent is still armed." Deescalation, as the boy called it, would have been one of the better circumstances in which to pull this one out.

"Creatures, on the other hand, depending on the kind, would have more trouble escaping such a spell and causing further harm."

Always good to know what and when a spell became useful and when it was better to bench it.

Anyway, they were moving on. And Papa Carter would be disappointed because she couldn't think of a single disadvantage to Ebublio. She was sure there were more than just the two mentioned. She just couldn't think of one. "Uh.....whoever you cast the spell on could simply float away...?" And immediately regretted it as she realized how stupid that sounded.

....

"Fair point." The Headmaster conceded, having taken a second to consider that one. "Depending on the external environment, one could very well find their opponent floating away whether they meant for them to or not. Depending on the nature of the conflict, this might not be a bad thing but it does leave you with an enemy floating off to parts unknown."

Better to always know where the people who meant you harm happened to be. It helped in avoiding sudden surprise appearances. "Another good reason to not cast it on our fellow schoolmates." He hoped they were taking notes on this one. He didn't know students floating off into the sunset regardless of how badly some of them wanted to get out of here.

"No worries on that end, Pascal." He could understand the worry about suffocating someone who simply stepped on your toe or looked at you the wrong way and the man was pleased that not all his students were fickle enough to go casting willy nilly without caring about the welfare of those they cast on--in this school setting anyway. Here's to looking at you, Rose.

"The person trapped in the bubble won't have problems breathing. They do have to take the time to remove the bubble before they begin casting again. Could be the second you needed to regroup or make that grand escape."

Good to know some good see the bright side of this spell.

"Wouldn't that be more of an advantage?" He wasn't sure he was following the logic there. If she cast on someone and the person was unable to undo the charm, the other person had essentially lost. She wouldn't need to do anything else, the person would be contained and no longer a threat.

"I can see it being a disadvantage if you're the one caught in the bubble and unable to break it, but having someone unable to get out of the bubble you cast can only be a benefit to you."

...Except, y'know, if the bubble was cast on a fellow student in a bout of anger and when rational thought set in the bubble couldn't be removed. Definitely a disadvantage then. They'd have to ask for help. It would be reported. That could go downhill fast. In an actual fight, however, effectively trapping your opponent is goals.

"An interesting point, Kaiser. One I don't think I've ever really considered." Granted, the man never considered sneaking anyone out of anywhere except his son on some of his weekend visits but that was much easier and didn't require a bubble. "You could wind up with more problems, a giant bubble doesn't exactly blend in--unless you then disillusion and silence it or shrink it pocket sized and go from there." A very interesting thought indeed-- "Don't attempt any of that with Chosen. No matter how much he insists."

The man could already see ideas forming in the Gryffindor's eyes at the Slytherin's words and he wasn't having it.

"You're equally correct about the wands. No wand, no way out. Wandless magic aside." Something they should all invest time in sooner or later. Never know when you'd be disarmed. Constant vigilance was a real thing.

"Thank you for bringing that up, Summers. Depending on your skill level, the bubble could last a few seconds or a month." Something to consider with any spell. "That's why practice is so important. The more you improve at your magic, the better your spells will be and the longer their effects can last." Want impressive spells? Homework was a good option to get there.

"In this case, it also depends on how quickly the opponent can undo the bubble or if they can at all. Even with a wand, just as a caster might not be great at magic, they might not be great at countering. There's no definitive answer there. Best to keep in mind that the stronger the intent and power, the longer and more powerful the spell."

That was the golden rule. If she followed that, she'd be fine.

"Yes, that, absolutely." Going good there, Dakest. "Size also plays a role in determining just how useful this spell is like to be." It was similar to the reasons mentioned when he replied to Summers, but...still different enough that it required its own explanation.

"Bigger objects--and creatures--will need a far greater amount of power behind a spell in order for it to be effective. Something the size of a dragon would require more power than most wizards possess in order to create a bubble worth the wand it's cast with." It took several to stun dragons long enough to transport them. It would take several to make an effective bubble for one.

"Sometimes, the task becomes too much and it's simply not possible. I'd like to hope none of my students make the attempt." Believe it or not, the man actually cared if they went on to live long and successful lives.

..."Huh." Yet another point he'd never actually thought of. "I suppose you're right, James. Trap the wand and they won't be able to physically pop the bubble to retrieve it. That's quite clever of you. Must be the beard." She did look a tad wiser, if not entirely ridiculous.

"Wandless magic would make this useless, but not everyone takes the time to learn. For most, arresting their wand is the easiest way to put an end to them."

What would they be able to do after that point?

"Yes but no." Was the not so simple but quite simple answer to her question. "You can't control the bubble itself, but should you then cast a levitation charm on it, you could then influence its height and where it goes." Like he'd mentioned earlier, the environment could also affect the bubble, say....strong wind or it being bumped into but once that bubble was up and out, it wasn't the caster's to control anymore.

"Should the bubble end up high and you don't wish the person harmed, you can always animate the bubble, lasso it, or otherwise take control of it. No need to wait for it to pop before trying to save the person on the inside."

Not everyone was quick enough, or skilled enough....and now he was imagining students going splat. Not the image he needed.

"I like to see you all putting real thought into the questions. It's a good look on you." One he hoped they carried over into their exams whether they were the major ones by the Ministry or just the school administered ones for those not doing their OWLs or NEWTs.

He cleared away the fountains. With another few flicks of his wand the ground began to spread wide, expanding as it went along. From it sprung a high and steep mountain and the ceiling before them seemed to break away. "It has both its strengths and its weaknesses, depending on the situation." He conjured rope next. "If you don't wish serious harm, it's a better option than most spells. If you can manage to disarm your opponent first, it's also useful. Keeps 'em trapped until the spell wears off or you let them go."

The Headmaster conjured himself a waist harness of sorts and attached the rope then conjured some for the students as well. "Get these on, secure them tightly." It was almost time to begin their climb.

"On the other hand, if the person knows how to counter the spell, it becomes less of a threat. It should be used alongside other spells, preferably ones that incapacitate or disarm. The size of the object or person or creature determines the amount of power needed and the likelihood it'll be effective." But he sincerely hoped they'd been listening to everything their peers had said. He wouldn't repeat it all. That was a waste of time and they had somewhere to be.

Malachi tightened the rope twice to be sure then moved to the base of the high mountain. "Come with me everyone. Get a piece of the rope through your harness then pass it on to someone else so they may do the same. We'll be going up for the next part of the lesson. Now, it's important to look out for foot and hand holes while climbing. Try not to fall or you may very well take everyone else down with you." Not that he'd ALLOW that but caution was to be advised regardless. "The rope and your peers should ensure you don't fall however the ground is padded in case we all end up taking a nasty spill."

The man got hold of the first hole and began pulling himself up, trusting they were following. "Oh. One more thing. Beware the falling rocks. Wands out." Casual as ever as he gave the instructions. "Practice time. To cast, draw your wand in the shape of an "e" and say the incantation 'ebublio'. That should encase the rocks in bubbles and render them of little danger." The rocks were large and intimidating--they'd see in a minute--but harmless. Wouldn't hurt if they did collide with one, no more than an unpleasant chill. "Step lively, let's go!" Up the mountain.

OOC: Welcome to the mini activity, everyone! They'll be mountain climbing with falling rocks they must turn into bubbles or have collide with them. Remember everyone is connected to one rope and will be heading up together using the different foot holes and spaces. You can decide when the rocks fall and I'll occasionally post Malachi with his own falling rocks should you want to claim those but you don't have to wait on me. You'll have 48 hrs to complete this activity. Have fun!

"Creatures, on the other hand, depending on the kind, would have more trouble escaping such a spell and causing further harm."

Always good to know what and when a spell became useful and when it was better to bench it.

"Step lively, let's go!" Up the mountain.

Again, Raziel had managed to get a question correct to the headmaster's reasonable satisfaction, and again, he struggled to hold back the joy that came from his acknowledgement. To be honest, Raz was always a tad starstruck in the headmaster's presence, and his sense of awe only grew as HE CONJURED A FREAKIN' Mountain, the absolute mad lad. Not one to sit and gawp when a true adventure was within reach, he shot up out of his seat. "Right behind you, headmaster!" the boy beamed as he strapped on the waist harness the way the professor had demonstrated and hurried after him. In all the excitement, he almost forgot to practice the spell! Almost.

"Ebublio!" he hissed quickly with a flick of his wrist, tracing a lower case "e" at a loose rock on the cliffside. As first attempts sometimes go, it didn't quite pan out, only causing a gentle stream of bubbles to spray out from the tip of his wand. Once more, this isn't such a tricky one! "Ebublio!", another flick of the wrist, and with a bright blue flash, the stone was encased in a shimmering bubble. With an appreciative look at his handiwork and then at his wand, Raz felt confident that he'd manage to make use of this jinx, should he need to. And even if he messed it up, he wasn't scared of the rocks. His trust in his headmaster was pure and absolute.

Hooking the wrope through his harness and passing it to his nearest neighbour, there was nothing for it at this point than to scurry up this little hill. How tall could it be, after all? Raz decided not to try to answer that question, and instead tackled the side of the mountain. He began to climb after the headmaster, emulating his climbing technique as best he could. Climbing with your wand ready was tricky, but if he kept his eyes open, he was sure he'd be fine. In-fact, he was so confident in his ability to handle this activity, he allowed himself an inviting glance at whoever was behind him to see if they needed a helping hand.

She had a good point?! Cecelia grinned, sitting up a bit taller in her seat and offering a, "You're welcome." She would gladly raise ALL the important points if it meant the headmaster would think she was a young witch FULL of potential, she WOULD. She would ALSO be soaking in his advice about practice being a BIG part of being able to make a spell last. This meant he couldn't blame her for trapping fellow students in bubbles, OBVIOUSLY, because he'd practically just given her permission to do so.

Phoebe giving her a bubble beard made the blonde's nose tickle and Cecelia tried VERY hard not to sneeze OR giggle while her friend was giving her own super smart answer. She would've said as much, too, but then there was...WHOA! "So cool!" There was a MOUNTAIN in their classroom! She didn't know how Headmaster Trent had managed it, but SHE wanted to learn THAT!

Also, ALSO, THIS was the kind of adventure the first year had been hoping for! She eagerly put on the waist harness, securing it tightly to her waist. Then she did as instructed, feeding the rope through her harness before passing it on and moving towards the mountain. It was HUGE and INTIMIDATING, but she was SO READY for this! Finding a spot to place her hand, then her foot, she hoisted herself up and started her climb.

Wait...

...Had he said falling rocks?

UM.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Claudine rearranged her thoughts and tried again. “What I meant was… let’s say I used this spell on someone but I’m unable to cast the counter jinx. No one else is around and the person I used the spell on doesn’t have their wand. Not being able to pop the bubble with something sharp means that the person is stuck in the bubble.’’ That was as best she could explain it and if Trent didn’t get it, well… Claudine wasn’t going to try again. For now, some notes were made before she paid attention to what Trent was moving on to.

The fountains were suddenly gone. Claudine watched in awe as very interesting things happened to the classroom. She happened to be a pureblood but magic never ceased to amaze her. Her belongings were quickly stashed and she eagerly followed Trent’s lead and instructions, all the while listening to him. Or rather, doing her best to. Sometimes it was difficult to split one’s concentration.

First the harness then the piece of rope through it before passing the rope off to the next person beside her. Claudine tried to stay out of their way as best as she could. She hated being touched. Oh, good golly. This exercise sounded challenging and fun. You can be sure she was most definitely not being sarcastic about this. Falling rocks? Trent wouldn't let them get hurt so why worry about those?

“Ebublio,’’ the Snakette repeated in a steady, firm voice. She kind of liked the whole ‘bub’ part. It was fun to say. “Ebublio.’’ The letter ‘e’ shape? Not a problem; that was so easy. Now came the actual fun.

And so the climb began.

NO TIME FOR BEARDS. IT WAS MOUNTAIN CLIMBING TIME. Phoebe shook her beard off and reached for the rope to string it through her harness. Professor Trent was cool... did he know that? Probably he did, cool people already knew how cool they were and just lorded it over everyone else.

Phoebe struggled to figure out where to put her wand while she climbed before deciding to stick it into her pocket. It was gonna be really hard to climb AND cast a spell AND avoid falling rocks, but she'd focus on the first and last and maybe cast a spell when she could. In the meantime, she mumbled the incantation as she sought the first hand and foot hold. "Ebubblyboo. Ebubblebutt. Ebubblibub." No. Focus. "Ebublio." YES.

Did he say...

... climbing?

There was absolutely no mistaking it, Kaiser's face positively lit up. Falling rocks? Not even a problem! He was certain he'd be able to evade them even without magic - this kind of activity was practically made for him. He would still attempt the spell of course, but, well, he wasn't all that worried that misfiring would end in disaster.

Kaiser didn't need the harness. At all. It just wasn't necessary, and it was clear that that rope was supposed to keep them all together, which meant he'd not even be able to nip up to the top at his own pace. Might even end up dragged down by some novice. But he put the gear on all the same just to avoid an equally unnecessary argument.

So eager was he to get climbing, he didn't even practice the spell before he started up the mountain. Hmmm, not as vertical as the surfaces he usually liked to scale, but plenty steep all the same. Kaiser picked out hand- and footholds with ease, going as far ahead as he could while still being attached to the others, and ascending speedily even with his wand in hand, as though he was born to climb. Or perhaps as though he'd had over a decade of practice.

And there was one of the falling rocks right now, headed straight for him. Confident in his ability to stay clinging to the mountainside with his fingers and toes, Kaiser could put almost all of his effort into casting the spell. "Ebublio!" He did the little 'e' movement, and there was a flash of light. Next moment, the falling rock was encased in a bubble, and was floating serenely away. First try! Confidence was a brilliant thing.

That was the spirit!

Malachi liked to see the students eager and ready to take on the challenge of the day. It was one of the only times they got to stretch their legs and they certainly differed from his theory lessons. Nothing but notes upon notes. Potentially mind numbing dictations that seemed to have no end. It was as much torture for him as for them.

The Headmaster found a careful way up the side of the mountain. He was aware that being the first up, he was essentially the anchor .... and he may have cast a nonverbal feather light charm below in case someone DID fall and attempt to drag them down too. Worst case, even if they all went hanging, he'd be able to keep them up.

Speaking of this mountain, it was awfully quiet, wasn't it?

He could change that.

Quick as that, a rumbling sound rang out. This was followed by a set of rocks of all sizes tumbling toward them. "Look out below!" He cautioned, clinging to the face of the mountain, listening to the whooshing sounds as the rocks fell past him toward the students.

Constant vigilance?

One hand on a hold. The other secured on a next hold. This meant that Claudine could lift her feet to climb, one at a time, obviously. It was difficult for her to use her right hand and at the same time clutch her wand. However, as she progressed, she found she got better at it. All she needed to do was to watch out for…

Look out below?

Claudine’s head snapped to look upwards. A huge-ish rock was tumbling towards her. A wave of panic seized her and she momentarily froze. It’s not real, her brain screamed which made her snap out of the reverie. “Ebublio.’’ The letter ‘e’ shape wand movement was done but Claudine knew she hadn’t done something right: concentrating fully. She supposed that the panic was still somewhat the trouble.

The rock ‘crashed’ into her sending the Snakette into a sharp shiver.

So size wasn’t a lame answer?

Lucas nodded along at whatever it was Trent was saying. Something about the bigger the size, the more difficult it would become. And that most people wouldn’t be able to trap something as big as a dragon in the bubble charm. Maybe running and screaming was the better answer in that-

........

.............

UH. Did Trent just conjure up a MOUNTAIN?!

His eyebrows shot straight up as he looked up and up and up to the tops of the mountain that was now in their classroom. This was weird. This was very weird and very cool at the same time. But the news about climbing it made him feel a little less enthusiastic and a little more....... nervous. Yeah. That’s what that uncomfortable feeling was.

When the rope was passed to him, he tied it as tightly and securely as he could before passing it on. Approaching the base of the mountain, he stared at the holds scattered above him before reaching up and placing his hand in one. He then placed his foot on a large rock at the bottom and hoisted himself up. There. Now he just...... needed to keep doing that, didn’t he? One hold at a time. First the left side and then the right.

He didn’t know how many holds he’d stepped on but soon enough, Lucas was starting to grow tired. There was a shooting pain along his calves, reminding him that he should probably do a lot more exercise if he wanted to be better at this. And not only that, but his arms were growing tired as well. And was it getting hard to breathe up here?? Maybe it had something to do with the ai-

...........

AAAAAARRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

ROCKS! Rocks the size of his face were falling down!! HELP! HEEEEEELP!!

The fourth year clung to the mountain as tightly as he could, trying his hardest to avoid being hit by the oncoming rocks. Was it working? Well. He managed to avoid a few but there were the odd few that scraped straight past his arm, his back, wherever. Oh merlin oh merlin oh merlin.

Lucas would’ve been much happier to stay clinging there but that didn’t seem to be working so he needed a new plan of action. He let go of his hold on one of the hand rests and reached for his wand, instead. Ebublio. There was no time to practice, was there? Just point, trace an ‘e’ shape and "Ebublio!" Come on come on!

"Ebublio!"

And now there were rocks pelting down on their heads! Phoebe gave a little shriek and tried to push out of the way, rather than casting the bubbles at them. The rope swayed with her, and it was only the pull of the people below her that reminded Phoebe that she wasn't alone on this adventure.

Right. She could rescue all of them from this terrible danger. It took a moment to free her wand, and then Phoebe pointed it above her head and over, generally toward the rockfall. "Ebublio." AND IT MADE A BUBBLE. A little one that sort of pinged against a rock, but STILL.

Nettie was definitely in awe when she watched their Headmaster conjure a MOUNTAIN in front of them. Her brain immediately wondered how he had done it - and how could SHE get that good at conjuring?? She almost missed his explanation of the activity but listened intently as he went over it. It seemed simple enough. Hit the rocks with the spell and use bubbles to not die! Easy.

She practiced the wand movement a few times before getting her gear in and beginning to climb, following Trent’s lead. It was only a few minutes in to the climb that the first rock came down at her. She pointed her wand and did the ‘e’ formation as instructed. ”Ebublio!” she exclaimed, smiling as she watched the bubble surround the rock, making it harmless as it floated away.

Malachi was pleased to see several of his students encase the rocks in bubbles. Some...more efficiently than others but attempts none the less and the first round of rocks hadn’t dislodged anyone. It was more than he’d anticipated when he first conjured the mountain but the man was pleasantly surprised all the same.

“We’re almost to the top!” He yelled down at them. “The rocks might get a little bigger! Stay alert.” A little...a lot...semantics really. There would be more falling rocks. They would still be unpleasant to touch. The journey was not over.

The Headmaster kept climbing, careful of the foot holes to ensure they didn’t ALL take a nasty spill....yet.

It was almost time for the second and final part of the lesson. He paused his thought a moment as BOULDERS began rolling down the side of the mountain. Hopefully the students were better prepared because those things were MASSIVE.

Oh look, the mountain top ahead. “Just a bit more! We’ve climbed too high to die now!”

EEP!

Cecelia ducked a particularly big rock that narrowly missed her head and she fumbled to get a better grip on her wand, aiming for the next rock coming her way. "Ebublio!" She remembered about MEANING what you say and staying focused, and to her surprise, the spell WORKED! She looked around wildly, hoping someone ELSE had witnessed this monumental triumph, but no such luck.

She kept on climbing, hearing the headmaster say they were almost at the top. She was thankful for that, the height and the falling rocks and the holding on to her wand AND the mountain serving to be quite a challenge. She was doing PRETTY good for a first year, though, WASN'T she?!

Oh! "Ebublio!" THIS rock wasn't so much a rock as a HUGE BOULDER and Cece actually winced as the bright light erupted from her wand, a bubble encasing the thing and carrying it away. She knew it wouldn't REALLY harm her, but the threat made her heart race SUPER fast, and she pretty much filled to the brim with adrenaline when she finally neared the top, a top which another boulder was rolling off of, towards her and the rest of the group. NOT ON HER WATCH! "Ebublio!"

Having totally zone out for the first half the lessons for reasons unknown to even Blake, he perked right up when he heard something about falling rocks. "Ugh ... Headmaster ... what if that rock...." Blake had not time to finish his question before the ginormous rocks starting tumbling down upon him.

In a slight panic, Blake had forgotten to raise his wand. In stead he just shouted EBUBLIO" When nothing happened he did a diving jump to the side to avoid being squish. What was it with Professors and putting them in life threatening situations.... and him being the Headmaster. There was no time to dwell more rocks were coming. This time, raising his wand and pointing at the rock "Ebublio" A small bubble emerged but nothing in compared to the rock coming his way .....

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

It only took her about two more ‘rocks’ coming her way but soon, Claudine felt that she had the hang of the spell. After those two, she managed to save herself the shivers by casting a bubble that neatly entrapped the third one cascading towards her. It was quite the sight to see it floating away.

And then she was on her way again.

She felt like a bubble herself, light and airy; she was filled with the happiness of her beautiful spell work.

Climbed too high to die?

Claudine rolled her eyes. Bit dramatic there, professor? But then…! A BOULDER. That one was GINORMOUS! The first year was tempted to freeze up again but she forced herself to get a grip on herself. “Ebublio.’’ As the previous times, there was a good load of concentration coming from her as the wand movement was performed.

A bubble emerged and encased the boulder.

YES!

She had done it again.

Now Claudine laid eyes on the top of the mountain for the first time.

Kaiser was having far too much fun climbing, because of course he was. All vestiges of tiredness had vanished the moment he set eyes on the mountain that had been magicked into the room, and he was now fully alert and fearlessly clambering up the side of it like a particularly enthusiastic spider.

He was, however, perhaps a little too invested in the actual climbing, and sort of forgetting this was a class activity, seeing as he'd started dodging the rocks rather than casting at them. It was just a natural reflex for him to adjust his course in the climb rather than cast a spell. That wasn't to say he hadn't floated any more rocks away with Ebublio; a couple of those lingering in the air were definitely his work, but mostly he was dodging.

Climbing, climbing, climbing. Nearly at the top, too. Only...

... boulders. Huge boulders that could not be dodged. Kaiser blinked up at them as one fell right towards him. While the idea was, of course, to use Ebublio on them, he was not yet confident enough that he could successfully encase something THAT big, so... Kaiser automatically went for another spell. "Reducto!" He panicked, okay?

It was one way of avoiding getting hit by the boulder... but all the same, Kaiser decided against yelling out an apology on the off-chance that everyone had been too preoccupied to notice that he had been the one to do it.

Carry on, everyone. Especially you, Trent.

He would be carrying on, yes. Having now gotten to the top, the Headmaster took hold of the rope to help pull the students up. Was he concerned about the boulders some managed to dodge better than others? No, not when they were as harmless as he'd made them. He did notice, however, a spell that was not meant to be the focus of the lesson. A result of panic maybe?

"Come along now, watch your step."

Trent kept pulling on the rope, helping the students onto the flat of the top whenever he got to them. It was a fair way down and they'd already made it. No need to accidentally head back down.

Once the last of them was up, it was time to address them. "Excellent work. It was hard getting to the top but no doubt a bit of exercise never hurt anyone. Now that we're up here, it's time to head back down. Remember the padded flooring I'd mentioned earlier? It wasn't necessarily to break your fall on the way up so much as to break it on the way down--and only if the person behind you is particularly dismal at this spell." Hence all the practice on the way up.

Malachi wiggled out of his harness and gestured for them to do the same. "Line up. The student at the front will jump, the student behind them will attempt to encase them in a bubble to break their fall. No need to panic if you miss. The ground has ample protection charms and a bit of bounce to boot."

No one would be harmed in the making of this poorly scripted action sequence. "Let's go!"

OOC: Last lap everyone! Now your student just has to jump off the side of the mountain and hope the student behind them catches them. If you're the first to post, assume there was someone ahead of your character so they can have a chance to cast the spell before jumping. You can cast and jump in the same post but you must post again with a reaction after (whether saying the student behind you saved your charrie or they went bouncing to the ground.) You cannot decide the effect of the other person's spell i.e you can't say they failed or did it well, but you can decide what happens to your character i.e if the bubble only caught their wrist or half of them is in the bubble or all of them. In a nutshell, post casting to save the person ahead of you as well as jumping, then post again revealing the outcome of your own charrie. Any questions, feel free to nudge me ^^ You have roughly 72 hrs.

Default Somebody catch me!!
I'm dreaming with my eyes wide open

As much as Razz loved adventure and, by extension, professor Trent's classes, the climb up the mountain had done a number on his lungs and his arms were quite sore by the time he heaved himself up to the top. He had assumed they'd have a moment to rest before the next part of the activity, but of course he should have expected this sort of "up and at 'em" approach from the headmaster. It didn't take long for him to realize what the intention was for them to do, and a wide grin took over his face. He took a few steps towards the ledge again at the professor's indication, stopping behind a tentative first year.

"Don't worry, I'll catch ya." he winked encouragingly. At that, the younger student worked up the courage and hopped from the peak towards the classroom below. Razz couldn't quite suppress his joyful chuckle as he flicked a lowercase e towards the falling first year and spoke the incantation "Ebublio!". The student in front of him let out a yelp as the spell took it's effect!

Having cast the spell on someone, he decided there was no time like the present. Counting on at least one of his fellow students having their eyes open, he took a deep breath and a running leap, doing a twist in the air as he threw himself off the mountain. He gave a playful wave at those still standing on the ledge as he reached the apex of his jump and began his rapid descent. "Somebody catch me!" he laughed as he fell.
