Default What was the saddest part in the book?

Which parts did you cry your eyes out? Which part did you not cry but just find extremely sad? Did you cry at all during the book? Post here!

Saddest Part for me had to be when Fred died, when the locket was torturing Ron and when Snape was crying over Lily in Sirius' bedroom, basically the whole idea of Snape being in love with Lily.

The saddest part for me was when Harry was digging Dobby's grave. It was the only time in the war that Harry allowed himself (and us) to grieve. Like Harry, I didn't take time when Fred, Remus and Tonks died. It was war and there just wasn't time to stop. Dobby meant more to me and frankly, I predicted a twin would die and maybe either Remus or Tonks so I was kind of prepared. I wasn't prepared for Dobby.

I cried when Fred died, and I teared up when they visited Luna's room. Seeing the portraits that she had of her friends made me realize how alone she was, and I felt really bad for Luna.

I cried when Harry went to Godric's Hollow and saw his parents grave - I mean how sad was all that?! And then I was reduced to tears when Dobby died...I wasnt actually crying when he died...it was the funeral that set me off. The whole Snape loves Lily bit made me well up, and when Snape died - that was truly dreadful. When Fred died that was just as bad, and when Harry "died" I was welling up again because of how Hagrid was. My gawsh that book has made me cry so much....what are we all going to be like when the film comes out?! We're all going to be distraught!

I was in tears all throughout chapter 33. Snape's death was totally unexpected in terms of how JK dealt with it [come on, he deserved something better than that!], but ever since he utters that line, 'Look at me', I was practically bawling.

The other parts that got to me were Kreacher's tale (poor Regulus), visiting James & Lily's tombs, Dobby's death, and going in Luna's bedroom. I was almost sure she had died and her daddy was deluding himself that she went fishing or something :/

But seriously, I think 'The Prince's Tale' is probably the saddest in the entire book.

"Look at me..."
That was such a moving scene. I dunno.. It just broke my heart. Snape, oh...
And at the very beginning of the book, Dudley! He simply amazed me.
Finally all the cries of Ron while Hermione was being tortured. NO NO NO!
Of course, they were many sad parts in the book, but to me, these are the most heart-breaking.

There are so many moments when I choked up. But there are a few of note for me. The first time I cried was the death of Dobby/digging of Dobby's grave. His death was so noble and the grief process so honest and poignant. I was sitting on my balcony crying into my skirt.

The next was when Remus came to announce Teddy's birth. I didn't know why I was sad, but I was so terribly sad it was insane. It could be because I miss my own father so much, he's passed away and I talk about that a lot, because it affects my emotions and perspective a lot still, but i kind of think that I sort of sensed that Teddy was going to lose a parent or both, especially once Harry was named Godfather. Again, I was crying into my skirt on the balcony. My neighbours must think I'm nuts. They'd be right.

The last two things were the things that got me worst and I'm lucky that the sun was high and bright and I had retreated inside to avoid a sunburn, because I reacted BADLY. First, Fred's death. I sounded just like Percy, "NOOOO" I screamed, as if I had some window of opportunity; If I objected vehemently enough, quickly enough, it would be erased from the plot. I cried and howled. Choked and sobbed. It was nuts. I couldn't calm down. The last fictional death that had come close to affecting me like this was Chris Chambers in Stephen King's "The Body." And that, unfortunately for me this time around, had been before I had experienced the death of anyone I truly cared for. Well before the death of my Dad. I couldn't continue reading for half an hour. I cried and howled straight for that long. I calmed myself down by lighting a candle for Fred. Isn't that funny? I had to treat his death as if he ever lived, so his death had to be observed.

I didn't cry for this, so I don't know if I can actually call it sad, maybe I was cried out. But when Harry told Neville to kill Nagini, and then he saw Ginny comforting the girl, and he determinedly walked into the Forest, I didn't cry, but I screamed. I honestly screamed at the pages of my book, as if it would make a difference, but I wasn't screaming at Harry, I was screaming at Rowling, "You can't make him leave her behind! There is NOTHING worse than being LEFT BEHIND!" I wasn't talking ofcourse, about just leaving her there to fret, we've all read the book presumably; Harry was sacrificing himself, and I was furious on Ginny's behalf, I was hurting for her, she was about to be SO sad. I know I have a fear of abandonment. I have had LOTS of therapy. But it was really cast into sharp relief just how pronounced that fear is, when I relaized that I was shouting at an author through a book for making her hero chose to die and leave a someone behind to miss him.

Look at that, there are 4 up there; I couldn't just chose one saddest moment from the book. The book itself is utterly heart-rending. Even with, "All was well." It's over. I finished it, and after a few minutes, it sank in that there is nothing more to read, to anticipate. I collapsed on my bed and started howling again. This is either because this is a very tragic thing, or because I need professional help, or... both.

Dobby's death was the absolute saddest part. It was the only death in the book I cried over. He's such a lovable character.

When Snape was crying over Lily's letter. It wasn't even written to him but he still treasured it... =/ Poor Snapey.

Fred dying.. although it wasn't as sad as I wanted it to be or should have been because Harry never got a chance to actually really mourn his death.

I think the saddest part was when Harry found out he was a Horcrux. I cried so hard I had to stop reading and pull myself together because I thought Harry was going to die. But he didn't. =)

I cried when Hedwig died ... I'm sorry, i found that very sad <#3

I cried when Harry was with Remus and James and Siri and Lily in the forest, tears just streamed down my face so much I could barely read the words <3 Heartbreaking and brave

Fred's death was sad, I know it was, but we were barely given any time at all to grieve When it said George was crying by his side, that broke my heart into so many pieces though <3333

I cried in this book so much, like I have never sobbed before....

I cried when Dobby died...and throughout the funeral, when they put the clothes on him...OMG, that was just heart-wrenching..

I cried when Moody died....

I cried when Lupin announced his son...and cried when Harry became his godfather..

I cried when Harry saved Draco....

and when Ron walked away....AND when he returned.

I cried when my poor Weasley died...

and at the grave scene....

I cried when I knew how much Ron loved Hermione....

and how much Snape loved Lily...the whole chapter was so sad..and he DID deserve a better death, I did not like the way she did it AT ALL.

I cried when Ollivander thanked Luna....

and when Neville was talking about the way Hogwarts had become..I cried at they way he had become a man....

and I cried when Dumbledore and Harry were able to "speak"...

Can you honestly imagine the movie?????

When Dobby died. It was so sad. I cried for about two/three minutes and had to get chocolate because chocolate helps when you're sad. I took bitw after bite and was crying and kicking the walls because the poor House-elf didn't deserve to die.

And When Hermione kissed Ron; I screamed, I cried, I kicked the wall, I hsouted "IT'S NOT FAIR!", I contemplated throwing teh book away and not reading anymore, I contemplated phoning my mother and crying to her about it, I put on Sad Music and didn't read for about 5/10 minutes.

And when Harry was in the Forest with Sirius, James, Lily and Remus; I sobbed and cried and got teary-eyed and had to stop reading so as not to get teh book wet with my tears. It was so sad. I sobbed when he asked 'does it hurt?' that was so---awww.

And all of Snape's memories, I cried a river and continued going "Awwww. How sweet!" Over and over again. My mother came in and was like "WTF are you crying for?" I think she thought I was hurt or something

And Kreacher's Tale, I was like: Now I wish I hadn't killed of my character's house-elf. I could of had him be like that. And I got teary-eyed but held it back. The poor House-elf was in Tears and ---- I wanted to jump into the book and hug Kreacher so tightly. The Poor Creature.

Only two of the death's actually had any impact on me: Dobby and Snape. I mean, the rest of the deaths were barely mentioned. I thought that the saddest part wasn't a death, though, was hearing the dead Remus talk about his son growing up without him and Tonks; that part really touched me as did Harry's entire walk to his death. That was very emotional.

I think the saddest parts to read were Harry visiting James and Lily's graves, and Harry digging Dobby's grave... but I definitely cried hardest when Lupin and Tonks were found dead, and when Harry was on his way to face Voldemort. I also thought the scene where Hermione was being tortured and Ron was sobbing and banging on the walls was pretty tough to handle. And of course Snape, wanting to look at Lily's eyes one last time. This book was so emotional, I seriously used a box of tissues.

Lupin dieing, no doubt. I had hoped Lupin would make it through, but it was not to be. The other saddest part is when Voldemort died. I mean, it would have been so cool to have him live, even succeed.

Okay gang I'm a big cry baby and I cried a lot in this book - both happy and sad tears. The parts I can remember off the top of my head are:

I got teary-eyed when Big-D said good-bye to Harry.

I got teary-eyed when Hedwig died.

I cried when Ron came back and found Harry.

I got teary-eyed when Harry & Hermoine visited Godric's Hollow and read the sign on the Potter's house.

I cried when Bellatrix was performing the Crucio Curse on Hermoine and Ron was yelling for her.

When Neville stood up to Harry and wanted to fight and wouldn't take no for an answer.

When Harry stood up for McGonagall.

When Percy came back to his family.

I cried when Snape died and all through the Prince's Tale. Poor Snape! This had to be the saddest part for me.

When Harry decided he was going to let Voldie kill him and he saw his family.

I cired when Voldie AK Harry and then Harry talked to Dumbledore.

I cried when Harry stood up to Voldiemort like a man and won and the Great Hall went crazy.

For me, it was when I thought Harry was gonna die. Through the last 6 books I've been able to say "It's the Harry Potter series. There is no Harry Potter without Harry Potter." to assure myself that he wouldnt die. But this being the last book, I was no longer sure, but always thought "Harry is the hero. The hero can't die." When I thought his death was certain, I got teary-eyed.
