Snape is one of my favorite characters now. I expected something like that but the Lily part was completely unexpected although I kind of had a feeling that the hatred towards James wasn't just because of his "arrogance." Like Libbi Granger said, his death was romantically tragic.

I must admit: I cried the most over Severus Snape then any other character in Deathly Hallows. Especially after reading The Prince's Tale.
I knew all along that Snape had killed Dumbledore under Dumbledore's order. I knew Snape wasn't evil, mean yes, but not evil.
While reading DH I started to doubt myself. The way he was acting, being Voldemort's right hand man. The we find out he gave Voldemort the right day Harry would leave Privet Drive, blew George's ear off, became Headmaster. All that stuff made me want to hate Snape. He was being such a git in my opinion.
The way he died was horrible. It made me hate Voldemort even more, which is impossible. And then after giving Harry the momery. Do you guys remember what he said? "Look...at...me..." He wanted to look into the eyes that reminded him of his life-long love before dying. *cries* I only realized that after reading The Prince's Tale which made me cry even more.
Reading and picturing Snape cry in the memory totally crushed my heart. It was so mind blowing, so shocking. He didn't just hate James for being a show-off, arrogant, mediocre. You know, I never like James after reading OotP and I especially don't like him now. He was a bully to Snape since day one, he was arrogant, a show-off, and he took away Snape's one true love. He spent pretty much his whole life trying to make-up for having told Voldemort about the prophecy and killing her. And most importantly, he was always Dumbledore's man.
Snape was an incredibly complex and great character. He's definitely my favorite character of the whole series.
And what Harry said in the epilogue: "Albus Severus, you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew."
*cries* I love Severus Snape.

I'm like Kirstie. I never particularly liked Snape and when he killed Dumbledore I was ready to kill him. But then after reading DH I've started to think that he was alright. I sort of guessed that he might be good and love Lily but it never stuck because I got the idea from FFs.

In the last 6 books, I thought that Snape was bad. And when I read his story and his death,I felt very bad and very sad. I had always called him a git and a traitor.

I had predicted that Snape loved Lily.So sad how he died.So sad how he was always misunderstood.

Now that it's confirmed that he's good along, I feel sorry for him. I hate the way he died/killed.

Im confuse tho'. His Patronus,a doe, does it has something to do with Lily?

Yeah, Lily's was a doe as well.

When I first read HBP I was convinced Snape was good... upon re-reading, I began to think that maybe JK was double-bluffing and he appeared as he was - evil. I'm glad I was wrong!

Yep, Snape's Patronus was the same as Lily's.
A Doe.
And obviously it has to do with her, to make a Patronus, u need a sense of happiness or love *if I'm not wrong thats wht we got to know in PoA*or maybe I am wrong I have no idea *

But yes Snape loved Lily too much, to love her even after she'd married James, and thats probably why he had the same patronus as her.
He loved her even after she'd died. Don't u guys feel that Lily's eyes are so much talked about in the book, and between Dumbledore and Snape too when Dumbledore tells him that Lily's dead but her son survives, and has the same eyes as hers. Snape breaks down.

I dont know but I always supported the Snape is good theory!
HBP confused me, but I dont know the talk Hagrid over heard between Snape and Dumbledore, and Dumbledore pleading Severus to kill him,* which a lot of ppl tht was Please dont kill me*, anyhow I'd still hoped and tht Snape might be the Inside man.

I had completely expected this. I predicted all along that Snape was good. I didn't expect that he would die. I didn't want him to. He was my favourite character. Now he's my hero! When I read about him killing Dumbledore, I was sure it was a plan between him and Dumbledore. I also expected that he was helping Harry because he liked Lily. I'm glad that my thoughts were true. However, I'm really sorry that Snape wasn't returned with the love that he had for Lily, and I'm truly sorry for Snape's death. I'm so proud of you, Severus!!

Ever since book 5 I knew he loved Lily. I didn't expect friendship actually, I just figured it was one of those from-afar kind of things, not that they were friends and he really loved her.
As for his loyalties... I actually wasn't so sure about them. I thought he was an Order member that was all good and all, but when Voldemort became known (aka after the 5th book), he switched back to being a Death Eater and such.
I knew there was good somewhere, I just didn't know how much (like, enough that was shown in some of his memories).

I didn't cheer for Snape's death cause I started to figure he was a bit better than I thought, but I wasn't all that sad until The Prince's Tale. I was waiting for some Snape/Lily to show... I just didn't think it would be so strong! (him actually asking Voldie to leave her be! That amazed me...) It was then i truly felt sorry for him...

All in all, I disliked him for killing Dumbledore, but I didn't hate him... I just hated Snape for how he acted when around Harry! He was mean... but that was because he hated the James that Harry had in him, which was frankly a LOT!
I didn't expect it to be a planned thing... not in the least, it wasn't exactly my first thought when he decided to kill-and-run-with-Death-Eaters, you know?

I don't know why, but I remember J.K said 'the twinkle of triumph in Dumbledore's eyes' from the 4th book was important, and when I heard the line 'Today he [Severus Snape] is no more of a Death Eater than I am', I began to really doubt Dumbledore... I had a feeling there was something very bad about him he kept secret.
In a sense, he did (his sister, being friends with Grindenwald, or whatever his name was, and his power-hungriness), but it wasn't as bad as i thought - for some reason I began to wonder if one of the reasons Voldie feared Dumbledore was because Dumbledore helped Voldie and was a Death Eater but backed off and showed he couldn't be killed as easily...
Don't ask. I just had a feeling there was something very wrong we didn't know about Dumbledore...

Snape was always my favorite character, because he was so complex and it was always hard to guess his intentions... I thought he was bad, until the chapter with his memories, and the whole Lily thing... Then I felt like crying... Because I really didn't want him to die, even though I was almost sure of his death before DH... Gosh, that was really sad, reading his memories...

What made me angry, though, was how pointless his death was ! Really now, he wasn't even the master of the Elder Wand ! He should have lived, or at least he was supposed to have a heroic death ! But it was all so suddenly, so... unimportant ! Why did he have to die in order to let Harry know the truth ?!

As for his love for Lily...that was a shock for me ! I read some predictions about it, but I just thought it was all rubbish... And then, after reading "The Prince's Tale" I was sobbing... It was so sad, knowing all that...

Snape was always a key character, how could she kill him ?..

I had predicted that he loved Lily all along, that was one of the obvious story lines. However I did not predict the way in which JK would plot him as being portrayed as both, in a sense, good and bad. I thought the way in which she portrayed him was excellent as it was not what I expected.

However, I have to say that I did not except him to die. Even though many people did, I did not for some reason, and when Voldemort killed him, I felt a pang of sadness towards him, the fact that he was not able to fully express himself to everyone (except Harry of course who saw his memories)

Although, I kind of had an inkling that his patronus would have been the silver doe, basically because I could not think of any one else really.

Default Surprise?

No, i wasn't at all surprised by SS. I knew he was on the right side eand I supposed that Lily had something to do with him (they were parteners in one of my fanfics). I was painfully aware that he couldn't survive the last book. But to die in that way, being betrayed again another time, alone (despite the fact that the last thing he saw was Lily's eyes), far away from the main action, were heroes showed up, without even the great gesture of saving HP from Voldemort and dying in the act, without nobody feeling some grief for him, as nobody yet knew of his memories... Wasn't it really to much? Wasn't it really too hard a blow on a man who had NEVER had the chance of being SAVED? He was born already marked, already wrong, already unloved. And he died exactly the same way he had always lived: alone, deeply inside. I felt desperately sorry for him and for the lack of possibilities that charcterised his life. Are you any familiar with Star Wars ep I-III? Anakin was chosen for failure, his fall was unavoidable, even if every time it seemed that so little change could have saved him from perdition... Snape was the same: condamned even before birth.
Dumbledore said him that he was afraid they sorted him to soon... Just throw that Hat away, it made the hugest mistake of the world! Everything for SS could have been different, if it didn't.
Sorry I was long, I am still so sad...

forever

I KNEW Snape loved Lily! I knew it! -dances-

I love how JKR explained Snape. But I dont know why I thought he loved Lily. Something just attracted me to the wonderful theory. Snape was good, snape was good but he died. He shouldn't have died ...

Snape didn't have to show Harry his memories of Lily ... but I guess he thought Harry ought to know the truth. And when he was dying, he wanted Harry to look at him ... Lily's eyes ...

When I first met Snape in the books I admit I thought he was evil, it wasn't until the 5th book when I strated to realize he had some kind of love for Lily and that must be more to him than what was being seen. And when he killed dumbledore, I knew it was on Dumbledore's orders, I just had a feeling, it fit somehow.... But I had no idea...of the depth to which he was truly protecting Harry and why. It never dawned on me that there was more feeling there and he was showing....you know my mom always said that people sometimes pick on you and harrass you becasue they cannot show their true feelings toward you....Snapes snide comments to Harry continuously, but then the sideways looks that were always so thoughtful as if...well....I was so happy to finally get the rest of the story, but I was so sad he had to die, and cryed so hard...I have tear stains on that chapter.

I'm crying now...*sigh*
R.I.P. Severus Snape.

I always thought that Snape was really good, but I never thought that he loved Lily. Poor Snape, that part of the story made me sad for him And I cried more for his death than for any of the others. I loved Snape a lot and didn't want him to die

All I can say is that I knew it!!!!! I knew he killed Dumbledore on Dumbledore's orders and that Dumbledore was already dying due to the curse that blackened his hand! I knew Snape turned when Lily died! But I did not ever guess he would die like he did! That was sad, but it was good that Harry was able to be there so that Snape knew he would have his memories and know what Dumbledore needed him to do, which his very life hung on him doing! Snape saved Harry again!!!!

I also have to say that Snape is one, if not the one, of my fav characters. I knew all along that he was good. I just had that deep feeling that he was good and that Dumbledore wouldnt have made a mistake like that. But i have to say that i never expected that whole Lilly and Snape thing. Who would of known that they knew eachother before they went to Hogwarts. I didn't!!

Snapes death I cried!!! And with that stupid snake which (thank goodness) is dead!!! And then after i saw the memory, i cried even harder!!!

I knew he loved her, I knew he loved her! What I didnīt know, though, was that heīd been loving her that long.

Dumbledore believed in love, so the only explanation I could think of his trusting Severus, because Voldemort had attacked the Potters, was Lily.

I was ready to strangle Rowling, the way she killed Snape. I guess she mustīve guessed this reaction, placing the Princeīs tale as the next chapter. I calmed down a bit, even though "The moment she had insulted James Potter, his whole body had relaxed and as they walked away there was a new spring in Snapeīs step ..." made me cry for real. It still does. *cries* It probably will tomorrow, and a day after it, forever actually.

The death itself had only brought tears of anger into my eyes. I had been angry to Rowling, but after thinking about it now I realise it was the only way that Riddle-coward could have finished off the most intelligent wizard of his lot: by letting an innocent snake to take care of it. Disgusting, really ...

Call me a sentimental fool if you want to, but it is a completely different thing to theorize - even believing in that theory - about Snapeīs being in love with Lily than to read that it
actually was true, and most of all that he still loved her. The woman he loved married the man he hated, that mustīve hurted really bad! * *

I cried throughout most of The Prince's Tale chapter.. I never really used to like Snape, even though I knew there had to be more to him and I did have a feeling there was something between him and Lily.. but I still don't understand how he could be so horrible to Lily's son.. I know he didn't like James but still, Harry has her eyes and yet he was still so nasty to him.... I guess he was angry that Lily died to save him.

I also loved how Harry named his middle child Albus Severus.. that brought a tear to my eye.. and how he said you're named after one of the bravest Slytherins I knew - or along those lines..

Anyway.. I see Snape in a different light now, I never really used to like his character, though I have to admit, he's one of my favourites now.

Snape never really got what he wanted, except that last part when he wanted to look into Harry's eyes to see Lily's one last time. It was sad, it almost made me cry, but I didn't. I personally think Snape should've lived, but...I thought Harry's kid was so cute, being named after Dumbledore and Snape...
