Fred and Lupins death was sad for me. Also Snape, I had hoped Snape would make it. I most sad that The Dark Lord died though, but that was kinda the whole point. I didn't care that Dobby died, as I'm not a house elf fan. Or Tonks for that matter. But Mad Eye? Well, that was to bad also.

The deaths hit me so hard in this one. I feel like I spent half the time reading just sobbing. When Lupin died, I actually had to break from the book for half an hour. Although he bothered me in this book a little - the idea that he was finally going to have a little family, that he was the last of the Marauders - I was devestated. I actually sort of knew his death was coming before the scene in the Great Hall. Someone told Tonks that Lupin was fighting Dolohov, and the next time you hear of Dolohov, he's fighting Dean. That didn't seem good to me. But it didn't really hit me until Harry saw them in the hall.

Fred was also one of my favorite characters, I was so, so upset when he died. I'm glad that the epilogue didn't focus on everyone's reaction to the war, because I think it would have been hard to see George without his brother.

I never liked Snape, but that death was horrible! He died like a hero and I'm sure when I re-read the books, knowing for sure that he was Dumbledore's man, I'll be a lot more upset. Dobby was also a character I didn't care for much, but Harry's reaction made it really upsetting.

And, of course, Harry's 'death'. When he was walking to meet Voldemort, I was actually shaking. He was so brave, and it was so well written. I really really loved him at that point.

Actually the deaths that bothered me the most in DH had already happened. I cried the hardest when Harry used the resurrection stone and talked to the good Marauders, and also when Harry visited his parents graves. I swear, I feel like I spent half the book crying!

I just want to say one thing about Fred's death, because for some reason, it really sticks out in my mind. I see a lot of people in this thread say that she didn't address it enough. She addressed it perfectly for me. She addressed it to the point that I was hysterical.
At the begining of the next chapter she writes,
Quote:
The world had ended, so why had the battle not ceased, the castle fallen silent in horror and every combatant laid down their arms?
I asked a similar question almost two years ago. it's writen in my livejournal, and even my writing makes me sound like a child even though had recently turned 20,
Quote:
how is it that there is a today if my daddy died yesterday?
I couldn't understand my father's death, not exactly, for a long time; it was very sudden. It took me about 2 weeks just to actually breakdown, I just had too much to do, school, a job, a sister and a mother that I felt responsible for; Harry had the whole school, heck, he had the whole world that he felt responsible for.

All of the deaths upset me. The ones that hit me the hardest were Dobby, Fred, and Snape. I was crying for each one and I had to take a break before I could read again. Harry's exact moment of death didn't have me crying, but his acceptance, bravery, and grief before hand did.

Voldemort had to go; nothing but just desserts there. Same with Bella. Let's hear it for Molly Weasley!! Power to the Moms!!

I don't think any of the deaths really upset me. None of them were extremely emotional. The closest I got to tears were Snapes and Dobby's, though. I wish more time had been spent on the other ones.

I didn't like the beginning when Jo made me think Hagrid bit the dust. I just cried, then continued on and found out it was Moody. Ugh.

I just stared when Fred died. I had always said I would cry if one of the twins died, but I made it a couple more pages before I did. I couldn't accept it. Finally, as Harry and Percy were putting him into a closet...I broke down. I do wish Jo would have said something about George's reaction to Fred's death, not knowing....there's no closure there, and I still feel as though I'm missing something.

Harry did a lot of growing up in this book, so I like him again. And his acceptance of his death....made me cry. The death itself didn't, since I was one of those last year parading the "Harry Must Die" banner, but his acceptance...and the appearance of Lupin, Sirius, James, Lily...it was just emotionally moving.

I think I was surprised most by Fred, Dobby & Hedwig. I never saw those coming.

I was surprised most about who killed Bella. I loved her line, too, it was soo unlike her.

There were many people who died that I thought wouldn't and some that made it through that I thought were goners.

I felt the worse for Snape though.

Lupins death was just soo sad for me.. The Maurauders finally gone!
Fred's death was a big shocker...and Dobby! God that women really made this book voilent of all.! What I did hated though was why the death eaters were'nt shown getting killed. Only Bellatrix.. Lucius should have died, and all..etc..!!

Quote:
I expected Hermione to die in Ron's arms, or Harry to sacrifice himself for Ginny, or even Luna and Neville. I mean, A twin? An owl? An Auror? I thoguht this would be huge! I thought THE harry potter would die! And she went cliche and brought him bak i did not like that. I did not like the ending. It was so completly cliche. 'He died! Oh nooo he came back from the dead, got married and had a bunch of kids named after all the dead people" Like honestly, I expected better from JKR in that aspect
Too good!! I loved reading it..!

I have to say the saddest death for me was Snapes but when I found out that Lupin and Tonks were dead to it was just sooo sad because they'd just had a baby and he's never really know his mum and dad only stories that others told him about them.

But Snape's death stuck with me throughout the rest of the book and I just couldn't get over it and I'm still not over it! why did he have to die! Why Snape?! When not someone else! it's not fair! :'(

Some the deaths within the story were devastating. The ones that effected me most were:

Tonks & Lupin - These were teo of my favorite characters & the only ones that i just broke into tears reading about their deaths. I couldn't believe but when i hear from lupin later it cheered me up a bit.

Fred - This was also sad but I was kind of expecting one of the twins to die. It'll be weird rereading the series and knowing what i know.

So basically a lot of my favourite characters died. Which is slightly annoying. >.<

Snape: I have always liked Snape, but when he killed Dumbledore I began to resent him. Then, when he died it came as a complete shock. I was sure that Severus would survive, and so I started crying; even though I still slightly thought that he had done the wrong thing. But finally realised that he was told to, after reading more. Poor Snape. >.<

Fred: Why Fred? Gah! I was certain that George was going to die, and when he didn't I was relieved. Then, I was sure that neither of the twins would die, although then Fred got killed. When he did, I cried. But at least during his last moments, he was happy.

Mad-Eye: Yet again, another of my favourites. He was one of the strongest characters and his death was so unexpected. At that point I was already angry, and that made me angrier. Also, I cried, again. >.< Mad-Eye was great.

Lupin and Tonks: I had to re-read that section to make sure it was true. It said they looked like they were sleeping, and I was like, okay they're sleeping, because that they had been injured; then the realisation hit me, and so I read it again quickly. It's so sad, they had just had a child and they had both died in battle.

Dobby: One of the sweetest characters throughout the books. Such a sad part. Although, at least in his final moments he was heroic.

Harry: When he died I was slightly glad. I never liked Potter, and I still don't. Then he came back, which annoyed me, but oh well. I'm happy that he killed Voldemort though.

Regulus Black: Even though he did not die in this book, I'm glad that we found out exactly how he had died. Surprisingly he was actually kind, and heroic. He was a great character.

Other sad deaths: Bathilda Bagshot, Ted Tonks, Hedwig, Colin, and Dirk.

I am glad that Voldemort died, but I'd rather if Bellatrix didn't; although I like the way that she died.

Overall, I'm completely annoyed as to how many great characters died.

I had a few tears fall down when I read about Fred. I was so sad!!! My mom was asking me if i was alright

Hedwig's death hit hard too. I mean she was not even in the war!!!

I kind of expected Remus or Tonks to die, but not together!!! Poor Ted! J.K. made him an orphan!!

Dobby really hit home too. Even my mom who doesnt read the books, was like "Oh no! Not Dobby!" I was truely sad.

Mad Eye wasnt my favorite character, but his death was so sudden. It was just like BAM! Your dead! I was like

Having a night's sleep to get over things, I'm still confused and raw. particularly as to why it all seems to lead back to my father's death for me, the logical half of my brain is lecturing the other half of me about the importance of understanding the difference between fantasy and reality.

I'm not grieving today like I was yesterday. I'm sad still, but it's not tumbling out of me in honest revelations that I can't control.

Dobby's death really hurt me. I cried for him. I found the gesture of his burial also very meaningful and so beautiful.

Tonks and Remus too, I don't know how, but I had a bad feeling as soon as Teddy was born. It took me a whole chapter to for it to click that they were dead. And then I had to go back and read it again. It was tragically beautiful, but unfair and unnecessary to me, but that is war. Lots of people die in wars, and there is no reason for it.

I've put it all over this Forum... Fred's death threw me for a loop. Upset me so much it really put me off balance. I had to stop reading for a while. I even lit a candle for him. I think, personally, that Rowling handled his death properly, but that's me.

Snape's death... it wasn't sad for me, it wasn't even shocking, I knew he was going to die. It was cruel. how he died, that he died essentially for Lily, and the child of the man who she loved over him. I hurt for Snape. I was shocked that he had known Lily as a child, but not that he had been in love with her.

Someone else in this thread said it wasn't Harry dying, it was Harry accepting that he had to die that was sad. I agree. That was another thing that put me through the proverbial wringer. I was so distrought on Ginny's behalf, because she was going to lose him. Or I thought she was.

Bellatrix's death made me cheer. I wanted Neville to do it. I thought he owed her. But Molly was a great substitute. And Neville did well in his own right.

Voldemort's death was very fitting. That's all there is to it for me.

I was really sad about Fred, Lupin and Tonks' death. I didn't expect it to happen. But of course, some deaths are supposed to be celebrated! (Voldie's death, and Bellatrix's death)

Hedwig dying was horrible! I always liked that owl

and Poor Dobby, Such a sweet little thing

I've mentioned this a thousand times before..Why did she kill Snape once we finally all decided we like him..

By far, the most interesting concept that JKR had twisted in the plot with her little tweaks. But, nevertheless, I did find a lot of the deaths troublesome. XD They just...didn't quite fit in the way that the others in the past had. Then, again death is never supposed to but in the light of significance...It honestly felt as though JKR had randomly picked names out of a shoe or something. At least, that's my thoughts after the Wormtail's death.

My reaction to them: Honestly? I did not cry a tear during this book. At all. And, although I'm not Cho-like either way...I cried plenty for Siry along with DD. I guess, like someone mentioned---JKR kinda set the Battle in such fast motion, Harry was unable to feel the grief that he had with the others in the past---But, even at that, I didn't feel remorse. They just seemed so---out of the loop.

Mad-Eye: It was beyond obvious, from the moment that Dung and Mad-Eye began their bickering, that either or would soon be a victim. Not necessarily dead, but I still read their tidbits with intent. Not saying that I wasn't shocked, even if it was expected or not. I stared, re-read, and then stared off into space again. Yet, I was positive Mad Eye would soon pop up out of no where eventually. Merely wishful thinking.

Wormtail: I LOVED the way JKR wrote this bit. I don't know why. I know, it may sound inhuman, but...I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was ingenious. The symbolism that embodied each word that she used during that scene completely left me in a 'Paulo Coelho' daze. It was extremely touching and by far one of the greatest lessons of life.

Dobby: There were four times during this book, that I practically jumped out of my bed with bliss. One of them was during Dobby's appearance at The Malfoy Manor. From the moment that Dobby saved Luna and the others, it seemed to me as though the tide had finally turned once and for all [ironically, even after the death, I continued to feel the same feeling throughout the book]. Even after it was obvious that Dobby had perished, I had doubt. Like---somehow he'd rise up once again, despite all the odds! I had this feeling for EVERY one of the deaths after--aside from when it actually occurred with Harry.] When Harry dug Dobby's grave, I honestly just didn't bother reading and skipped over it because I was so doubtful. Immaturely, I thought to myself--Why read this when he'll end up alive [For lack of a better word] in the end? Stupid thought, I know. Although, even to the end, seeing DD in the Hallows, it kinda gave me the feeling that Dobby and the others were just as alive. It was just the new beginning after the selective end. So, in a way, within the matter of how I saw the whole book play out, I did save myself that sorrow. It's weird how it actually worked out. I read over the part of the Burial, and yet...I still didn't feel angry. Not even remorse. As DD said, he was not the one who should be pitied. It was those alive---still fighting and fearing death. All in all, I kept referring back to how chivalrously Dobby had apparated and helped Harry out of the MManor. But, for a different reason than the others. Dobby, WormTail, Mad-Eye, it seemed, died doing something specific. There was select significance to their deaths. Specific life lessons of some sort. That's what the other great characters lacked.

Fred Weasley: This was a buttload of nonsense. It seemed that, I now more than ever, believed that the characters would pop back into the scene alive as ever. I had a bunch of little brainstorms and ways linked to the alleged Deathly Hallows...and hoping with this invalid thinking, was much easier than to accept the deaths and stop reading. Fred and George, are by far---legends. It's like having [excuse the cheese] bread without butter. Ice cream without fudge. Milk without cookies. It just doesn't give that some satisfaction. What was the reason that Forge passed and not Gred? And, I know that we were told that many great wizards would perish during the Final Battle---but...to have such an amazing character just die like that without any greater meaning...was beyond me. And, don't give me the whole 'conquering Voldemort at all costs' BS...Maybe JKR had some other reason for killing Fred off so carelessly...I don't know. But, I do believe that's why his death did trigger more emotion from me than the rest. He deserved a Hero's Tale. Killing him off with nothing but shock was pretty troublesome. Yet, I was reluctant. After Harry had left the scene, I still did not believe that Fred was gone. Not until Dumbledore appeared and I got the little wakeup call, did I believe otherwise.

Tonks/Lupin: My second favorite character from all the HP books, after Siry. And my second favorite Marauder, only second to Siry as well. Gosh, what a trend. Meeeh, I dunno. Quite funky, indeed. I honestly don't know what to make of this death. All of the thoughts involved in what I wrote earlier about Fred are the same in this instance. It defo did hit me pretty hard. But, I guess the fact that Lupin had followed---didn't disturb me as much as Fred dying without George. As for the child, *no comment*. Once again, still no tears appeared.

Snivellus: I knew he wasn't evil. Come on, we all knew. As devious as he treated Harry---everything that was revealed in the Pensieve--we already knew about. And, in my case, I was dead sure that it would've played out the way that it did. Lily--was a shocker, no doubt. The fact that he knew her before they even attended Hogwarts added a nice little twist in the plot. Would have Snivellus and Lily ended up together if he hadn't been so engrossed with the Dark Arts? Haha, I'm sure there'll be alot of Fanfics popping all over the place from of that little detail. Um, honestly...I don't know what more to add about his death. He was a great wizard, and the fact that Harry named his son after him was sweet. His downfall kinda reminded me of Regulus. We all knew what was to happen, it was just a matter of confirming it. I was just hoping that Voldemort would be able to witness the harsh irony when Smape revealed his cover and revolted against him. Just as I had hoped that it was revealed to Voldemort [regarding RAB]---that while he thought he was indestructible all along---people [on his side] had been able to double cross him for the greater good. For Love. For Loyalty. And not for their gain. I had thought that the shock from that point would've been Voldemort's downfall...But, JKR left Harry with all the secrets until the end and I believe that it was for the best.

Hmmm. So, there. Enough babbling. *feels so much better now*
You forgot two old members of Dumbledores Army.

Hedwig: I was in shock, but I understood why she had to die. She could do mo more for Harry, no longer could she sent letters to his loved ones, no longer could she bring him dead rats and other preents, it was time for her to die, even hough she was the first true friend of Harrys and kept him sane over the summer holidays.

Mad-Eye: I wasn't shocked, I knew he would die valiantly for Harry.

Countless Victims of the Ministry: Now these hit me hard, so they were Muggle-born and MudBloods, who really cares? That's no reason to murder them like they're nothing!! This got me extremly angry when I read that!

THe Muggle Professor: I didn't know her but I knew she loved anyone just like the rest of Hogwarts and died in hopes of a future. It didn't really affect me as much as it shoud have, I mean the only one she realyknew was Hermione and you could tell she was affected by it.

Dobby: My house-elf died! I bawled so hard when I read about his death and was in shock for over an hour, holding the book in my hand grieving with Hary. Dobby was so much of agood friend that it effected Harry more than anyone else; sure the others knew of Dobby and liked him but Harry had been saved by Dobby countless times, and yet he couldn't save him in th end. Dobby died knowing that Harry would not stop until VOldemort was brought down, and knew that a new world would be brought with the defeat, allowing House-elfs to live among wizards freely, to possibly go to school and learn and to have a good, natural life.

Severus: I have a new ound respect fo him. I admit before I was furious with him but deep down inside I knew he was a good guy, knew that he was a double agent, knew that he killed DD for a reason, and I found out why; DD was already dying and knew that his time was short. Anyway, that's another thread. I cried hard when he died, he died so that Harry could fufill his denstiny, knowingin his heart that Lily would thank him, and would love him back. I knew something was up between the two and now, in Heavn the marauders plus Severus are best friends, waiting for Harry.

Bellatrix:
Now I laughed when she died, seriously after all the heartache she put the gang through, getting killed my Mrs. Weasley was the best she could have hoped for. She deserved everythig she got personally.

Tonks/Lupin: Even writing their names out now hits hadr and I can feel the tears forming in my eyes. After everything they've been through, marrying and havinga beautiful child they find themselves in Heaven or wereever they believed in, waiting with open arms for Harry. I couldn't take that one sentence, but I knew they died for Harry's freedom, along with the whole wizarding worlds. And Teddy will grow up knowing his parents died for him, which is what Lupin wanted.

Colin Creevey: Poor misguided fool. There was no reason for him to die was there? He shuold have listened to Minerva and left, he would have been safe!! But, I can kind of understand, he was a member of the DA and so he felt he had to fight.

Fred: Oh, why did Fred have to die??? I was heartbroken when he died, but he died doing what he wanted to do, fighting for his freedom and everyone elsess' so I understand.

Harry (First time):
Wow what a non-bombshell I knew he would die but this! Harry had been through so much and at the final moment of battl, when Voldemort killled' him and he spoke to Dumbledore and found out everything he's alway wanted to know, I believe he finaly understood everything he's never understood before. With those few moments he had with DD he grew up, finally, truly grew up.

Voldemort:

Wormtail: He finally died saing Harry, there's nothing more to say. He showed remorse and paid the price.

I so cried when Fred died!!! Fred! *cries hysterically* poor, him...

I wasn't reallt that affected when Hedwig diee...I thought Hagrid would die though! and I actually pitied Snape when he died even before the whole pensieve thing...my mom's friend was right about HBP and Dumbledore was all "Severus, please" she said Snape was pleading Snape to kill him and she was right.

Poor Ted [the baby]!! Both his parents died...and I really don't know how I feel about Bella's death...Voldie's death was...eh... not very dramatic...kinda cornee....

You know what I agree with you on Freds count.

Fred: Died a Heroic death doing what he knew was right fighting against Death Eaters for not only the freedom of his own brother and friends but the generations of witches and wizards to come. Fred died doing not only what he wanted to do and felt was right, but he also died doing what came naturally to him laughing. You could say that Fred, was one to Laugh in the face of death.

Wormtail: Upon Harry saying that he "Owed" him he lessened the grip of the silver hand that Voldemort had given him after he had chopped off his own hand to resurect V
