| Part 1 vs Part 2..the split.
Where do you think the first movie will end and the second start??
I'd love to hear your ideas.
After reading the 7th book I still haven't been able to think of a place where it would split...Maybe Dobbys death? But then it seems like that would leave too much movie for the second part. Or maybe at the part where they're breaking into Gringotts?

There's actually confirmation on where this will end. Part I ends after Dobby's burial at the Shell cottage. It cuts to a scene where Voldemort is breaking in to Dumbledore's tomb, steals the wand, and casts a lightning bolt in to the sky.

I have to say I hated where they split the book. Dobby's death was WAY too far. Because they added so much into Part 1, everything had to be rushed. Deathly Hallows was always different than the other HP books in the fact that everything is plot driven. All of the events (the seven potters, the wedding, a place to hide, grimmauld place, breaking into the Ministry of Magic) are important and cannot be left out.
I'm wondering what they'll do for part two. All that is left is breaking into Gringotts, the Battle of Hogwarts, and Snape's Memories. Oh, and the Epilogue. Can that all be two and a half hours?

I'm assuming they've done this to dedicate so much time to the Battle of Hogwarts. They'll probably spend much of the time here. After all, a lot of the horcruxes are destroyed here, there's so many deaths, we have Harry's "death" and his conversation with Dumbledore, as well. Hopefully by leaving so much time to these, we'll get to go really in depth and detailed. HOPEFULLY.

To be honest, I really liked where they split the book and I didn't think it was rushed or anything. I was actually pretty impressed by how they did the movie. *nods* Quote:

I really hope they'll spend more time on the Battle of Hogwarts, and especially the people who die. Unlike in the book where it was just like 'Oh yeah, and those people died too.'

I really liked how dramatic Voldemort made taking the wand from dumbledore, I , again, was shivering with fear and anxiousness. It was a good split, because it's a cliffhanger, but one of those things that makes everyone want to come back next year to see what happens, because not much was given away, and I think Mr. Lovegood explained the Deathly Hallows pretty well.
Some girl behind me, from my school, probably not a fan but just saw the movie was like " Wait? What?! You've got to be kidding me!" So I think even non-fans are willing to go see PArt 2 because so much needs to be explained

I think it was a really good split too At first I thought it would be a bit too far, but to be honest--I really didn't like the first half of DH that much I wasn't a fan of all the running around, I felt like it dragged a bit, actually. So personally, I didn't mind a bit of squishing with that part
I've read a couple of interviews where the stars talk about how much action is in the second part, so I really think it's going to be INTENSE with the Battle of Hogwarts, and I cannot wait!!

Perfect way to split it at the perfect time. Now everyone who sees it in theaters and when it comes out will want to see part 2 badly.

I always thought that that would be a good place to split them. So I thought it was perfect. All I can say is that I want Part Two NOW. |

I loved the split. I was practially crying after the split. The first part was awesome.
But I do feel they rushed several parts too, but it was still a good movie. They made sure they had the key parts in the movie like the book. And I do believe they will probably spend most of the movie in the battle, going over snapes memory and the talk harry had with dumblebore after his death.
This had to be by far the best movie out of the series.
I'm so stoaked for the second half. Too bad it's all the way in june.. =[

When they first announced the split, I went 'Malfoy Manor's a good cliffhanger...' So I wasn't too far off. I like the split, because there are so many scenes WITHIN the battle that they can really do great things with now that they have so much time - the RoR, out in the woods, (it might be cool if they showed Ron and Hermione destroying the horcrux with the fang down in the chamber, but I don't know if they do), Dumbledore, all the dueling before Harry pops up, then the actual fight...
And, I may be remembering this wrong... but don't we get to see some of what's going on at Hogwarts before the Trio get there? That'll take some time, if we do.

I definitely love the place they decided to split it. I can't think of any other place halfway decent enough to end the movie. Stopping it right before Malfoy Manor when the Snatchers capture the trio (which I think was a rumored split point before it was officially announced), would have ruined the tension in that scene, imo. Ending the movie with Lord Voldemort acquiring the most powerful wand in the wizarding world was a great cliffhanger ending. It makes me really anxious to find out what happens in Part 2 (even though I've read the book!). Quote:

This guy a few rows ahead or behind me (can't remember exactly) was all like "YOU'RE JOKING" when it faded to black after Voldemort got the Elder Wand. Whether he was a fan or non-fan, I dunno, but it was funny. And I'm quite sure he'll be back for the second movie, so definitely, I agree that the place they ended it at was excellent. Quote:

The only time I can think of hearing about what's happening at Hogwarts is the part with Dirk Cressewell, Ted Tonks, Dean Thomas, Griphook, and that other goblin when they talk about Luna, Neville, and Ginny trying to steal Gryffindor's sword from Snape's office. I wouldn't be totally against or surprised if they gave us a few added scenes in the movie of what's going on there though.
EDIT: Heh, so after finishing my reread of DH, I found that I forgot about when Neville explains all the things that have been happening at Hogwarts to the trio while they're walking through the passage from the Hog's Head to Hogwarts. I imagine they'll probably show some kind of montage as Neville explains because I'm sure just hearing about it rather than seeing it also would be a bit boring.

I think it would be sweet too showing Ron and Hermione destroying it because didn't Ron have to open the chamber by himself too? They better show the part with Dumbledore too! I can't wait to see when Harry opens the snitch and he "dies". That'll prob be the best part. Quote:

That would be sweet. I can't wait to see the part where Harry's in Ravenclaws dorm with Luna looking for the next Horcrux and Professor McGonagall sees Harry!
Or during the battle when Mrs Weasley is fighting, that will be epic.

I agree with you all, the split was perfect, both for audiences and for the box office. As soon as the credits rolled I turned to my friend and we said at the same time, "I can't wait for part 2!" The movie was so good and it just leaves you begging for more.

It ended about where my husband and I thought it would at shell cottage. If you think about it there was no other place they really could end part 1. I can not wait to see if they are going to begin part 2 the next morning at shell cottage.
It was so funny when we where in the seating in the theater talking to each other about where they ended it and it was where we said. This was right before they cut to the scene where Voldemort broke into Dumbledore's grave. Then we heard this girl behind us yell "No, they can't end it there!!!!" We had to laugh.

I think it was really good were the spilt it up, because you get all the begining in first, then the second part starts to get more into thing, and closes every thing up.
